Short Tour of Penang National Park with NS Friends

2 weeks ago, on a Sunday, it’s also the third day of a Penang trip with friends from NS (PLKN), some went home and some were still in Penang and so I brought them to National Park to take a short walk and lookaround.

    IMG_4261 by nicholaschan.

Do you know that Penang has a National Park and it’s the smallest in Malaysia? Many people still don’t now. =D It’s at Teluk Bahang following the trail in National Park will lead you to Pantai Kerachut, Muka Head and Monkey Beach, the 3 main attractions there.

    IMG_4264 by nicholaschan.

We registered ourselves at the counter and started walking into the park. We just walked a little bit to the beach only because we were not prepared for hiking trail, it’s just show them there’s a national park in Penang. ^.^

It’s low tide so we could go down the beach at there. The beach was not pretty because there’s no ivory soft golden sand. It’s hard.

    IMG_4285 by nicholaschan.

It’s pretty warm at that time, close to sunset, but it’s still fun.

  • Went To Pray And Met Frank, Edwin and Kin You on Wesak Day

Went To Pray And Met Frank, Edwin and Kin You on Wesak Day

I woke up kinda late on this year’s Wesak Day and it was almost noon when I woke up. I didn’t join mom to go do the Wesak Day prayer at Phor Tay High School in the morning because I was sleeping, forgotten what I was doing the night before which made me wake up so late. Instead I went to the temple myself, alone. The praying, the bathing of little Buddha statue during Wesak Day is a standard thing to do for Buddhist.

    IMG_1710 by nicholaschan.

Although I am not a very religious person, but seems I am free and it’s nothing bad to believe in God, so why not? Before prayer, I went to Qing Huang Tea House to meet up with school mate and also friends from the National Service. Two of them have already knew them before and Frank Ooi is a new friend. The two person was Kin You and Edwin.

    Kin You.

I didn’t want to spend my afternoon at home so I went to meet up with them, joined them for lunch and talk. Else it would be pretty boring a bit. Everyone was at home that day because it’s Wesak Day and people scared of traffic jam as there’s a Wesak Day prossesion and parade at night in town.

    IMG_1728 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_1734 by nicholaschan.

Me, Edwin and Frank would be there at the Wesak Day procession too. So after lunch and talk cock, we went home to rest. I was thinking about going to the Wesak Day place to do my prayer so it would be 2 in one stuff, I no need go here and there, but I thought about it, since I still have time, might as well just go to the temple to do it first and at night to enjoy the procession together. =D

    IMG_1738 by nicholaschan.

It’s the same place every year, in the Buddha hall in Phor Tay High School, near to my house. The different was that I went there alone. Phor Tay High School is a Buddhism centered school, so there’s temple inside in case you guys wondered.

  • Away to PLKN (Day 60): My Botak Bald Head

Away to PLKN (Day 60): My Botak Bald Head

63 days ago, I haven’t go into National Service yet. National Service need all the male trainee to have their hair bald and of course, they provide free hair cut. But somehow, I decided to had my very own botak (bald) haircut before going to NS. So I went to look for those Indian barber to cut my hair, it’s cheap, neat and fast.

    2010-03-24 Botak Kia1 by nicholaschan.

I did cut botak before, it was so long time ago when I was Standard 2, still remember that time were to go to Australia to travel, but no idea why mom brought me to cut botak. Now because of NS, I’ve got my chance to be bald, else I won’t be bald until don’t know when.

Sorry for being vain, because it’s once in a life time and many friends were shock and excited of my hairstyle, so it had been two months, guess every has already feel comfortable with my hairless head.

    2010-03-24 Botak Kia3 by nicholaschan

LOL. Shit. Bald is pretty cool, but a little hard to fashion myself up with the head. I don’t want to wear a hip hop cap.

  • PLKN Experience: MacBook Pro and Photo Booth In Camp

PLKN Experience: MacBook Pro and Photo Booth In Camp

On a lovely 3rd Sunday of Kumpulan 2, Siri 7, 2010 in Kem PLKN White Resort, Balik Pulau, two guys who were already gone came back to the camp. Balbinder Singh and Eu Chuen.

It’s a Sunday and as usual, I would be in the hall (they called it Dewan Rajawali) from morning until afternoon. I love being in the hall on Sunday because it’s family visiting day and my parents would come and visit me, bring food, bring laptop and camera for me to play with. I don’t like to stay inside the dorm and sleep, it’s Sunday, I need some fresh air and bright light. Dorm is dull.

    250420102725 by nicholaschan

It’s still early that day, around 930am, I was just preparing myself to go the hall to check out who’s family or friends were there. I am weird, I like to see who came to visit them. Haha. As for my parents, they would probably come around noon time. It’s kinda surprise to see Singh and Eu Chuen came back to the camp a week after they had left. They made deferment because they were going to college, and they came back on a surprise visit. Nice!

    250420102723 by nicholaschan
    Eu Chuen, Izzi and Khang.

Now only I know that there’s an Apple fan in camp and quite a geek too. Eu Chuen brought along his gadget, the MacBook Pro, planning to online at there but somehow the WIFI couldn’t work on that day. So I played a little with my favourite Mac app, Photo Booth. Hehe. Feel a little bit sad for Chuen because he bought his MacBook Pro few weeks before NS and the new revision came out a few week after NS. Apple really release stuff on a surprise. Still, it’s cool. I want one too!

    Balbinder Singh.

Singh, a mixed of Chinese and Singh came all the way from Taiping and was staying at Eu Chuen’s place. Chuen brought him to camp and they stayed until afternoon.

Sunday is always the best day because I can skip breakfast and wake up a little bit late at 745am, then there’s mom and dad, there’s lot of food and a lot of talking. We talk from morning until afternoon! Yeah.

The Blue Bears are doing big on the World Cup, so if you are a World Cup fan, you should check out the bears. Away to PLKN (Day 16): Lomo #3

At the very first time, when I knew about being chosen for PLKN, I was very scared. I was not sad, but scared, worried that how would I survive in the camp.

    Jing Min during SPM 2009.

My mind go on and off for this PLKN. At first, I thought of going, Google a lot about it, then I didn’t get in the first batch, after a while, I didn’t feel like going already because the exciting feel went away, and then, I got news about being in the 2nd batch which is this batch that I am in currently, I become excited again. Friends who had went to, came back and told me about their experience and I felt not that bad afterall.

Being bald is not what I worry (actually got dislike a bit, hehe), but being disconnected from the world and outside was what I worried. No Internet, no mobile phone, no radio. This sucks a bit. Although we are allow to use the mobile phone on weekend, but for sure the Google Nexus One is not with me. If I bring it, I scared it being stolen, and no camera mobile phone too! It must be camera-less phone. Sucks.

Somewhere inside school, the field, on a rainy day.

Then the next thing I worried was about gangsters inside, but I think nothing will happen if I do nothing to them. =)

15 days gone. Less than 85 more days to go! Yay.

Away to PLKN (Day 2): Borrowed PLKN 2010 First Batch DVD from Jocelyn

First time being away from home for so long and some more it’s a camp. I regretted why high school I didn’t join scouts or related-cadet which has camping, so I would be well-prepared for now. You guys in high school should join more camp, it’s fun.

I Google-ed over the Internet about National Service (PLKN), camping and many related stuff. Luckily, they film out the program for Kumpulan 1 Siri 7 2010 of Kem PLKN White Resort, which is the camp that I am at. Kumpulan 1 means first batch, I am batch 2, so when I am out, there’s DVD for us too, but need to pay money to buy it.

    IMG_7973 by nicholaschan.

One set of DVDs consist of 3 discs and it’s RM30. They have good mind of making money. Gonna thank Jocelyn from first batch for lending me the disc.

It’s good to see what they do and how’s life in the camp. And I’ve asked a lot of information from my friends who had just came back from the camp too. I am ready, not-ready also must ready because I am there already! Yo!

Chin Lai’s Farewell Gathering at Town Steamboat House

Chin Lai called up for a steamboat dinner as a last gathering and farewell because he was going to National Service. I don’t know why always go that Town Steamboat House, my many gatherings also were held at there. Last November and December, I went there for like 3-4 times.

    IMG_8006 by nicholaschan.

Anyway, since I long time few months didn’t go already, moreover I go to NS too, same place was no big deal. It’s a all-boys and one girl gathering, Chin Lai, Tee Jin, Arron, Chien Chern, Yan Duan, Chen Yuen and Yiphing, but I forgot to take Yiphing’s photo, she went back early. OMG.

Since it’s weekday night, there’s not many people at the restaurant, it’s not very hot. Else on weekend, where there’s many people, it’s very very hot, and sweating all along while grilling and steamboating. This place is fun because it’s eat all you can, price is RM19.90. Not bad.

Although not sweaty, but when going home, the body sure smells oily and BBQ. Woo.

Went To Medical Check Up For NS

Everybody! I will be going to National Service, to serve the my lovely country for two months plus! Please don’t forget me and remember to miss me. Haha. I will be going away this Sunday, 28th March 2010 and I will only be back on 12nd June 2010.

So between this time, the ways to contact me are drop me a message on Facebook, email me or text me.But then, I can’t reply and read your message straight away, I may get to use the computer, but not many time.

It’s a once in a life time process, it’s that I am lucky to be chosen for the program and I am ready to go for it right now.

    IMG_7969 by nicholaschan.

The PLKN (Program Latihan Khidmat Negara) department is really slow. I only received my letter about it on Tuesday. It’s a registered post, I wasn’t at home that time and I needed to go the post office to retrieve it. Work for me, but nevermind, I was free.

There’s nothing much inside the letter. It’s about me being chosen, where is the meet-up point, forms, approval letter for parents to use M-16 rifle, little guide and medical check up notice.

    IMG_8036 by nicholaschan

I was required to go for medical check up at the nearest government clinic or the general hospital. This is to ensure my physical and mental are fit for the program. I am a healthy person, so I am so fit for it, I guess. I actually wanted to go to check up at general hospital, but then mom said it’s far and need to go through a lot of procedure so asked me to go to the government clinic.

    IMG_8037 by nicholaschan

    IMG_8038 by nicholaschan

At the clinic, it’s so simple only. No urine test or blood test. Doctor just asked orally about my healthy and physical thing. LOL, real easy job for the doctor. I also didn’t want to go through all the hassel, so fast come, fast go.

    IMG_8040 by nicholaschan

Spent half an hour in the clinic, done. Go home. I am fit for the program. LOL
