  • Hat Yai Travel: Weekend Roadtrip to Hat Yai from Penang

Hat Yai Travel: Weekend Roadtrip to Hat Yai from Penang

It’s been a long time I’ve never been to Hat Yai, Thailand already, very very very long time. I hardly have the memory in my mind. I know my parents always bring me to Hat Yai when I was small but my real Hat Yai trip would be this time which happened two weeks ago on the weekend.

    IMG_3720 by nicholaschan.

Hat Yai located on the southern part of Thailand and it’s just right across the border of the northern part of Malaysia. So they’re connected, and dad drove all the way there, for like 2 hours. It’s shorter than going to Kuala Lumpur from my Penang.

    IMG_3721 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3722 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3726 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3727 by nicholaschan.

Dad didn’t bring the Touch N Go card so have to go back to the ancient way of paying toll which is queue for ticket and pay by cash. It’s smooth smooth all the way, no traffic jam or anything, passed by a lot of padi field which usually don’t get to see when traveling north and the rest houses are not so pretty. Hehe.

The road trip was good, I slept all the way, it’s so sleepy when sitting in the car for a long time and nothing to do. Didn’t even bother to listen to the music, sleeping is good for pasting time.

    IMG_3729 by nicholaschan.

We then arrived at place called Changloon, no idea where the place is, but I only know the name and at there, we were already very close to the Thai border.

    IMG_3732 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3735 by nicholaschan.

This is the place where we stopped by for a coffee break, toilet break, money changing and the purchase of insurance for entering the Thai.

    IMG_3742 by nicholaschan.

I didn’t have toilet feel or anything, so I just wait my dad to settle the car insurance thing. It’s like around RM14 per car for entering Thai and a car can stay in Thailand for 14 days, after that need to come out and renew again.

    IMG_3753 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3758 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3760 by nicholaschan.

Then back to car and drive for like 10 minutes and we arrived the border where the immigration buildings of the two countries are.

    IMG_3763 by nicholaschan.

After passing the Malaysian custom, we need to park our car and got out to go to chop our passport. I waited so long at the queue for like half an hour, very very very slow Thai officer. I was like OMG and the line was so long already.

Mom told me to place RM1 note or 10Baht inside the passport when passing it to the officer. I didn’t know about this because the place didn’t have any sign for us to pay 10Baht for going into Thai, I think this is tips for them.

After the long long wait at the immigration, finally I got cleared and got into Thailand. Mobile phone still showing Malaysian mobile at that time and after a while it only changed to Thai roaming mobile.

    IMG_3765 by nicholaschan.

It’s not Hat Yai yet, it’s only I-don’t-know-what-it’s-called after the border. I still have to sit in the car for another 45 minutes to reach the city of Hat Yai.

There’s no high rise building but you will see building almost the same height at like 7-10 floors and there’s the city. After a long hour car ride, we arrived in Hat Yai, the city. We went to lunch first only then to look for the hotel. We didn’t have any hotel booking in advance which made us encountered a little problem when looking for hotel.

    IMG_3780 by nicholasc
han. IMG_3781 by nicholaschan.

IMG_3782 by nicholaschan. IMG_3783 by nicholaschan.

Dad dropped grandma at a relative’s house, only we went to look for hotel. We actually wanted to go for New Season Hotel, but then it’s fulled. Then walked down a few blocks to May Flower Hotel, it’s full again, in the end went to Novotel Central Hotel. Mom doesn’t really like that hotel because she said the toilet is not very clean. They like New Season Hotel more.

    IMG_3786 by nicholaschan.

Now we only know that so many Malaysian like to come to Hat Yai on the weekend and we need to book the hotel in advance.

    IMG_3789 by nicholaschan.

IMG_3787 by nicholaschan. IMG_3791 by nicholaschan.

Hat Yai is much alike like other place in Thailand, like Phuket and Bangkok, they all look the same with many cables and not so pretty building and same Thai architecture.

    IMG_3794 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3795 by nicholaschan.

After we parked the car at the hotel carpark, checked in, dropped all our luggage in the hotel room, we went out to walk! Dad went to massage, mom went to shopping, I went to walkaround. Stay tune!

  • Breakfast at Mandarin Cafe

    Breakfast at Mandarin Cafe

Now is holiday to me, because I don’t go to school and I don’t go to work. Everyday just, sit back, relax and enjoy, it’s kinda fun, you don’t really get much time after I get back into school or work. Now is the time between graduated from high school and waiting for result. After studying for 11 years, primary and secondary school, this 3 months break is good.

Some friends have already went into college, some got themselves a job, and some are still like me, doing nothing, in a holiday mood. You say like that good or not?

    IMG_4040 by nicholaschan.
    Stim look.

Last friday morning, went to jogging with a few friends, nice to sweat. Then we went to breakfast at Mandarin Cafe which is located at Island Glades.

    IMG_4047 by nicholaschan.

Got talk got smile, we eat and we talk. Spent the whole morning at there, because we just didn’t know where to go next. I was with Chien Chern because he car pooled me and became my “driver” for the day.

    IMG_4058 by nicholaschan.

Wasting petrol is no good and it’s destroying the environment with carbon. So car pooling is good, or the best, public transport. =D But ever since I have got my driving license, I seldom take the public bus anymore, seldom. I kinda miss the days when I was on the Rapid Penang bus, I can surf the net on the bus somemore.

    Cool!

But anyhow, drive or public transport? By the way, second question to my friends, are you studying now or working or doing nothing like me?

The dragon boat tragedy [news] that happened here in my hometown, at Macallum there was very sad and worst, I know few of the victim.

I really don’t know what do say. I went to passed away Yi Zhang’s funeral place, saw his brother who was my classmate, my friend, I didn’t know what to say to him, it’s just, sad. I was going through my photos in my computer and I found some photos. Yi Zhang was already in the dragon boat team 2 years back and he was good.

    Bye Bye Jason Ch’ng, 1993-2010

17th January 2010 is a very sad and tragic Sunday. Chung Ling High School’s dragon boat team went out to the sea for training and was hit by strong current and capsized. Then people fell into the water, 2 dead, 4 still missing at this moment (12.53am).

Chung Ling High School was my high school and the saddest thing is that one of the dead, the passed away was Jason Ch’ng, my Leo Club’s President! My successor, the president of the club after my year. Oh, that’s so sucks man.

4 still missing and I know 2 of them, Brendon and Yi Zhang. Please do pray for them hard, it’s more than 12 hours since the thing happened now, very very scary.

By the way, check this out, rescue team damn.

Also on the tragedy, Eric Tan Leong Yit, 17, a friend of a survivor, said his friend was the first to alert the police on the incident as soon as he came ashore.

“However, it took the police 45 minutes to arrive. It seems like the police initially did not believe it was a genuine emergency call,” he said at the scene.

In the incident, a teacher and a student drowned and four other students went missing after a dragon boat carrying 18 people capsized in waters about 100 metres offshore Lebuh Macallum here at 10.20am. [nst]

How to have your own blog?

    Screen Captures by nicholaschan

I’m not really sure whether there are still people who haven’t heard about blogs. But unfortunately, a lot of people still don’t know how to have one. On the contrary to what some people think, getting your own blog is actually simple. But in order to have a blog or website, first you need to find yourself a web hosting provider to host your site. Without a web hosting provider, there would be no way to get your website published online.

You can choose to go with a paid hosting provider but if you are just planning to have a simple site, I suggest you go with a reliable free web host. Doteasy.com is a free web hosting provider that also offers domain name registration services. They provide an ad free hosting and guarantees 99.9% for your site. With their free hosting plan you can have as much as 100MB of disk space for free, which is usually more than enough for a simple site and even for a small business site. They also provide you with great free web site builders to help you create your own site much easier and make it look more professional. Plus, you get to use a free cPanel control panel which most free web host could not offer. There’s no set up fee and no monthly, all you need to do is to register for a free account. Aside from that, you can also earn through their affiliate program from $5 up to $70 for every successful referral sign up. And you don’t even need to be a customer to be able to join their affiliate program.

  • Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

I know it’s already 2010 but I still have so many things to share with you guys in 2009 man. Back to Christmas Day 09, it’s pretty lame and spontaneous day, but yet fun and interesting. No sense of direction and plans to go and ended up at a night market at night.

I thought after going to Nautilus Bay, Gertak Sanggul, dropped Chaiwei home then I will be home, only then I realized that that day was Friday and there’s night market on every Friday night, so last minute decided to go take a tour and dinner at the night market.

    IMG_2171 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2172 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2173 by nicholaschan.

We were there early, so we went to Yiphing‘s place for a sit first before the night falls and the night market starts. Talked and prank called Chien Chern before going to the night market, pretty lame.

    IMG_2174 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2175 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2177 by nicholaschan.

It’s very happenings, very crowded on a Christmas night, but then the walk way is very narrow and I don’t like. Feels like pushing all the way and keep moving on, hard to stop by and see something. Perhaps Farlim’s night market is funner, but then I still like happening place.

    IMG_2178 by nicholaschan.

It’s always the same thing, clothing, junk food, hawker food, accessories but no pirated DVDs.

    IMG_2179 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2190 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2191 by nicholaschan.

Met Andy and Ammerlynn at the night market, they joined us for Hokkien noodle and Char Koay Kak which I think they’re so-so only, I know better one at other place.

    IMG_2195 by nicholaschan.

Then try to camwhore a bit but always failed and took a lot of shot. The whole night street, it’s just keep flashing, flashing and flashing, everyone was like looking at us and I didn’t care and we were in the middle of the road. LOL.

Take 1: Failed, because no Chai Wei.

    IMG_2197 by nicholaschan.

Take 2: Failed, because Chai Wei’s face was too big and Andy was out.

    IMG_2198 by nicholaschan.

Take 3: Failed, because Chai Wei didn’t look at the lens.

    IMG_2199 by nicholaschan.

Take 4: Failed because Andy out of focus a bit and Chai Wei was out again.

    IMG_2200 by nicholaschan.

Take 6: Passed (a bit). ALL IN!

  • Back to Chung Ling High School 2010

Back to Chung Ling High School 2010

    IMG_3506 by nicholaschan.

On the first day of school, everyone went back to school, I have graduated from high school and I have got no school to go right now. But on that day, I also went back to school too! I actually went to collect my graduation certificates and my result slips, then in the mean time, had some canteen food and say hi to some junior of mine.

    IMG_3501 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3510 by nicholaschan.

Prefects love to spot check pockets because want to check for hidden takeaway food. Boo.

The days at school were so fun. You can check out all about my past high school life in this blog. Who says schooling sucks, I kinda like it and now I miss it quite a lot. High school to me is like a fun playground, everyday go to school talk and play with everyone, include teachers. Learning is just only a very little part of it, playing and enjoying school and friends are the best part. That’s why I love it so much.

    IMG_3508 by nicholaschan.

Only sad thing is have to wake up early in the morning and study very very very very hard like a rock for exams. The process of exam does not sucks but the time before exam sucks a lot.

    IMG_3498 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3499 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3511 by nicholaschan.

Went back to school with the same gang. They went there for canteen food actually.

    IMG_3520 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3521 by nicholaschan.

Prefect, still that unfriendly face. Why?

    IMG_3523 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3525 by nicholaschan.

No matter how much I miss the school, I still have to say bye bye because life move on now. I can still go back occasionally for canteen food and to say hi. But I guess this won’t last long because I don’t really know much young junior at there. People keeps getting older.

    IMG_3528 by nicholaschan.

We also went to the counseling room to chit chat with the teachers. They seemed to be free and very happy to talk with us. I wanted to ask about study but too many people already and so we had to make appointment.

Went back home before school dismiss to prevent traffic jam. Yeah.

  • Back From Hospital 2 Days Ago, SUCKS

Back From Hospital 2 Days Ago, SUCKS

Two day Thailand trip, a lot of Thai spicy and sour and delicious food, many tomyam and seafood, then I fell sicked. Life sucks man. It’s not just sick, it’s very sick until I have to suffer in the hospital. I came back home with a fever, took paracetamol, went to bed then wake up still hot. Then I rested whole day at home and it got even hotter at night and as high as 39 degree cel and I had to go to the hospital, I was afraid of dengue or H1N1.

    IMG_3979 by nicholaschan.

So sad that they admitted me in. I had not only fever but also diarrhea. I suspected food poisoning but doctor never mentioned a word about food poisoning.

One night passed, body cool down but still abnormal and that’s really WTF and FML because doctor wanted me to stay for another night in the hospital to monitor. Hate it so much. It’s so boring, and not comfortable with the pack of glucose going into a needle into my blood, the not-nice-sleep at night, the lousy food, the lousy Internet connection and the small TV. Bad bad bad.

    IMG_3980 by nicholaschan.

Mom brought me the laptop but only get to go online for a while because the Internet connection very lousy. Always disconnected one and need to wait a while only can reconnect again.

Anyway, still have to thanks Yiphing, Arron, Chien Chern, Tee Jin, Alvin, Wei Chung, Yong Chieh and Fang Juinn came to find me and talk or else I will be bored till knock on the wall. Time passes very slowly at there, you can’t imagine how slow it is.

    IMG_3987 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3991 by nicholaschan.

I also want to thank my daddy and mommy keep on coming by too, else I will be so lonely. Hehe.

On the second night, I keep on praying that my shit turn saturated and no more hotness for my body. I want saturated shit and no more diarrhea, it’s really suck if it continues. Luckily, everything turned good in the next morning.

    IMG_3993 by nicholaschan.

The only thing was I didn’t really got a good night sleep. I slept pretty late because I couldn’t fell asleep and the stupid nurse wake me up at 7.30am and asked me not to sleep, saying the doctor will be here soon. WTF, the doctor only came by at around 10am. So shit man.

Doctor discharged me and I need to wait for the bill and medication for another 2 hours in the hospital room. Bored till……. I am so fine now and I advise you to take care of yourself, everyone. =) Hospital sucks.

  • Went to AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City

Went to AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City

AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City  is actually a shopping mall on the mainland of Penang. I think it’s pretty new, like opened few years back only and it’s big. Always wanted to go check it out but didn’t really get a chance, dad always forgotten to bring us go so this time I went with Alvin, Arron, Chien Chern and Tee Jin while we were at Butterworth during the holidays.

    IMG_2434 by nicholaschan.

I actually accompanied them to check out a job interview. Then after the job thing, we got no where to go, so we hop on one of the Rapid Penang bus which took us to the AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City mall.

    IMG_2441 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2442 by nicholaschan.

I’ve forgotten to note the bus number but it’s pretty easy to get on. At the Penang Sentral, also the bus terminal on the mainland, just check out bus that has place list with Jusco and that’s it. Get on for almost a 45 minutes trip to reach there.

    IMG_2445 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2446 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2460 by nicholaschan.

    Nice building. What’s that?

Not near, it’s pretty far, but I believe you can reach faster if you drive there. Consult Google Maps on how-to. That’s what I always do. While on the bus, we passed a lot of kampungs, small padi fields, a lot of trees and many unknown sub-urban place.

    IMG_2464 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2466 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2470 by nicholaschan.

We saw the AEON mall in sight and press for bell to alight. The mall is almost the same like the one that I’ve visited in Johor Bahru, the AEON Jusco Tebrau City.

    IMG_2475 by nicholaschan.

It’s long inside, shop lots are big, they keep on saying it’s like Queensbay Mall and there’s only 3 floors with quite many standard shops too.

    IMG_2477 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2478 by nicholaschan.

    LOLs.

The place is not bad, quite standard but something very scary is that it’s so quiet when we were there. It’s like one of the weekday in December and there’s only little little people. This place is built in a very ulu (suburban) place and nobody comes on weekday. Deserted a bit already.

    IMG_2481 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2482 by nicholaschan.

After having afternoon tea slash lunch at there, we went out to find bus and go back to the ferry terminal. There’s food outlet there, but all expensive expensive and we were budget eater, so forced to eat at their food court, just same like the other Jusco food court like at Queensbay Mall.

    IMG_2483 by nicholaschan.

Took the ferry back to Penang island. Island sweet island. ^^
