    Random Photos in Town

This is just a simply crap post writeup. Today is Saturday and I want to wish you all Happy Thaipusam. It’s a very happenings day here in Penang and all the Indian comes out to party on the street. I like festival, I like happenings and I like my hometown, Penang.

Though, traffic jam will be everywhere and I need to take the longest route to go to any place to prevent passing by Jalan Utama and Jalan Dato Keramat where the Thaipusam possession is held.

ITP school of engineering so hidden in Victoria Street. First time knowing that there’s a school here.

Back to crap post, one fine day, I took the Sony T200 out instead of the Canon 400D, it’s tiny and sleek, but the quality is still far not to par with the DSLR, very suck for low light, yet still it’s fun to shoot. I like shooting it in 16:9 format, wide screen is nice. Although I still can crop my photos taken with DSLR to 16:9, but still I kinda lazy some times.

    DSC04028 by nicholaschan.

So, the reason of going to town was helping dad to do stuff like cheque deposit and collect stuff from the post office. He drives and I work it out.

    DSC04034 by nicholaschan.
I don’t ride motorbike. Do you?

    DSC04038 by nicholaschan.

Went to the Poslaju office to collect a parcel for dad, and he thought it’s something important, but turn out to be 4 RM10 Padini voucher, yet still pretty cool, I can go shopping already! It’s some reward scheme by the credit card company.

    DSC04041 by nicholaschan.

After that passed by Little India and saw a lot of Indians at there doing their business. If you wind down your window when passing this place, you can hear a lot of free bollywood music. Kinda cool. =D

At this moment, I am sitting in front of the computer, writing blog on one hand, and the TV behind me is playing Leverage latest episode. Do you watch Leverage? =D Enjoy. Gonna plan where to go later already. Chao! Happy Thaipusam once again!

  • Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy Memorial

Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy Memorial

It has been two week since the Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy passed. My school lost a teacher, and 5 student and I lost a friend. I know that we have to move on from now, although the thing is still in my and our head, still we have to move on, life goes on from now. Anyhow, it’s still a sad thing.

    IMG_4711 by nicholaschan.

Yesterday, the school had a memorial event in the school hall. I wanted to go, but I was stuck in a traffic jam because of Thaipusam festival. When I arrived in school, the whole school was quiet, and it was almost the end of the memorial.

    IMG_4713 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4714 by nicholaschan.

It was playing a video clips of the lates, and it’s a very emo moment, tears dropped down once again. Still feeling and thinking, WHY?

Some says that they shouldn’t have this memorial event because it was getting forgotten in the mind and almost move on with life, but this thing has caused emotional breakdown once again.

  • Short Visit to Hard Rock Hotel

Short Visit to Hard Rock Hotel

Yay! I’ve finally been to the Hard Rock Hotel at Batu Ferringhi, Penang! It’s my first time but it’s not an official visit. Why? Because I didn’t stay long at there and didn’t take many photos. Was planning to go somewhere else with Jin Xin and Huan Sheng that night, passed by Hard Rock Hotel so went in to take a look.

    IMG_4519 by nicholaschan.

Although didn’t take many photos, I can now tell people that I’ve been there before already.

    IMG_4523 by nicholaschan.
    Let’s carry this Be@rbrick home.

The interior really rocks, many things to see and have live band playing live music at the lobby. My friend told me that the live band in Hard Rock cafe rocks more than the one in the lobby, but still, they were awesome.

Just one sad thing is that Hard Rock Cafe is only open for above 21, and I am only 17, going 18 soon! There’s one trick and that is eating dinner at there before the live band starts and stay in the cafe till the band is here. Then you’ll pass the ID check. Didn’t try before though.

    Lights on my ass. LOL.

What rocks the most is the fibre optic lights at the main entrance. The color keep changing and it shows the Hard Rock logo. Prettyful! =D

    Me and Jin Xin.

    IMG_4536 by nicholaschan.

Find one fine day, I’m gonna go there again, to take many many photos, of course, it will be when my broken lens came back from service and thanks Huan Sheng for the photos. =)

  • Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Yes, you read me. My camera, Canon 400D went dead on the first night in Hat Yai and which made me feel sad and I couldn’t shoot for the second day.

Oh my god. Luckily, I at least got photos on the first day so I could write it up here. To me, traveling without a camera is not call traveling already, I can’t live without a camera when traveling, I want to capture every moment of it because I don’t know whether I will be going there again or not.

Cut the crap and here comes the photos!

    IMG_3848 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3850 by nicholaschan.

During the evening, I went to meet up a relatives who live in Hat Yai. We call him Wen Shok, I don’t know how to relate him to me, I only know he is close to my grandma. He brought us to see his new home in Hat Yai. It’s a 3 storey shop house.

    IMG_3846 by nicholaschan.

And at there, I also met his very cute grandson, who can listens to Mandarin more than Thai. Cool right? I didn’t get his name though. Not really interested in new home and my phone GPS had some problem locating my location and I was bored at time. No choice, have to follow my parents.

    IMG_3853 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3855 by nicholaschan.

Then we were brought to a very cool Thai restaurant near the university area. They have a very nice garden and the interior has a cottage-liked look. Like.

    IMG_3859 by nicholaschan.
    Gas station. Woo!

    IMG_3861 by nicholaschan.

After dinner, we went back to our hotel area. Stalls were all set up by the road side and it’s a shopping street again and, Thai-style night street shopping, it’s just the same at every where in Thailand, Phuket, Bangkok. So, it’s nothing special to me already.

    IMG_3863 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3865 by nicholaschan.

Quite many people went shopping too. I heard from the talking, most speaks Mandarin and Hokkien, so I assumed they were tourists who were from somewhere near my place. =D Another interesting thing is that the Thai at there speaks Mandarin too! We don’t need to speak English or point this and that anymore. Though, I don’t really like this because I like pointing this and that, it’s more challenging. Hehe.

    IMG_3873 by nicholaschan.

Most stuff by the street were clothes and shoes. Nothing much already.

    IMG_3886 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3890 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3893 by nicholaschan.

There’s 3 of us, me, dad and mom and the only person who was really shopping was mom only. Me and dad, two were just like bodyguard, following here and there.

    IMG_3901 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3897 by nicholaschan.

The not-boring part was the foot and neck massage. Really relaxing and it’s one hour at there. The person do my foot, then a little bit of my hand and my neck too! Now I know why dad so like Thai massage.

    IMG_3905 by nicholaschan.

After a massage would be some supper. It’s 11pm and 12am Malaysian time already, no wonder I felt sleepy a little bit at that moment.

Was planning to go to a live band bistro after supper but sadly, the bistro was full and we were not allow to go in, so in the end went back to hotel and at the same time, my camera went dead. Shit man!

  • That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

    IMG_4370 by nicholaschan.

I went shopping at Farlim’s weekly night market last week with mom. It’s so crowded, so dusty because of the sand, and so many things to see but I have got nothing to buy. Mom bought a lot of clothes but not me, I saw some cool stuff too, but I prefer buying it in the mall.

    IMG_4387 by nicholaschan.

While I was accompanying mom shopping, I hear people talking through the microphone, in Hokkien. It sounded like there’s street show going on, so curiosity, I went to check it out.

    IMG_4384 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4378 by nicholaschan.

I then saw many people gather around and see a guy talking stuff and stories.

    IMG_4386 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4382 by nicholaschan.

This guy claimed he came from Sarawak and he talked really a lot lot lot. He said there will be something special to be shown after his talking, I was there waiting and waiting until I got inpatient and walked away. Haha, really can’t wait for him to finish his talking, because he just has got too many things to talkabout.

Till then, I don’t really know what he sells, I think is some sort of Sarawak herbs medicine.

  • Chung Ling High School 2009 Graduation Day, Before Official Ceremony

Chung Ling High School 2009 Graduation Day, Before Official Ceremony

This post was supposed to be updated during the school holiday last year in December, I was so busy and forgetful, so before I’ve forgotten, I gonna write it up and share with you guys. As you know, I am no longer in high school right now, I’ve graduated from my lovely Chung Ling High School and doing nothing right now, waiting for SPM result and will be going to college soon.

Sad? Yeah, but still life has to move on. High school was fun and have to say that it’s the most fun schooling part in life, better than primary school or kindergarten, I am not sure about college or university but for sure, I’ll still make fun and enjoy every part of it. =) So guys and girls out there who are still in high school, please enjoy every moment and study hard for it, it’s short, it’s the only time where you need not to worry about other stuff, people make decision for you, you just need to study and play. That’s the two thing.

In November 2009, the school have a graduation ceremony for the Form 5s (me), Upper Sixth Form and the Year Six students of Chung Ling (Independent). This day was an exciting day to me, I thought I will be sad, but all my mind were fill with “Let’s take photos, let’s take photos and see you”. It’s not really the last day for us to meet because the days after, we had a week of school and 9 days of SPM.

    IMG_3929 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3931 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3930 by nicholaschan.

If I were to sad, it will be already few weeks before, thinking of high school was going to end soon. Anyway, that day was fun. For the first time, I woke up pretty early and meet up a few friends, Shaun, Jin Sheng, Hock Sheng, Tee Jin, Shi Jie, Young Hean, Yong Chieh at Greenlane McDonald’s at around 6am for a breakfast before going to school. It’s just for fun, not really for eat. I don’t have appetite when I wake up early in the morning.

    IMG_3937 by nicholaschan.

Then off to school. See a lot of cars and I have to park my car far far away at the back of the school. The front car park were closed for VIPs and teachers’ cars have to move to the back. All students have their tie on, good hair styles and teachers were in good look too, make ups and nicely dress. Once in my lifetime, yearly in teachers’ lifetime.

    IMG_3950 by nicholaschan.
    Playing with my camcorder.

    IMG_3960 by nicholaschan.

The official ceremony starts at around 9am, I reached school at around 7am and the atmosphere was noisy. Everyone was just talking and busy taking photos so as the post goes on, you will see many photos of handsomes, not saying me. And friends, sorry if I missed out your photos because I took too many photos that day and won’t be posting it out. Though, you still can check out your photos at my Flickr set.

  • Last Sunday at Chowrasta Market

    Last Sunday at Chowrasta Market

It’s the time for a yearly visit to Chowrasta Market in town. Every year, when close to Chinese New Year, mom sure bring me to Chowrasta Market for a walk. I also like going there because there’s many people, very happenings, I like!

    IMG_4127 by nicholaschan.

Why before Chinese New Year? I also don’t know why, maybe there’s more Chinese New year-related stuff to see at there I think.

Woke up pretty early that morning, at around 8am, freshing up took me 1 hour then arrived there at around 93oam. There’s already many people there when I was there.

    IMG_4129 by nicholaschan.
Oranges are healthy! You like? I only like orange juice.

    IMG_4133 by nicholaschan.

I went to have breakfast at there, it was a plate of wan tan noodle and it’s not nice, wrong stall I went.

    IMG_4135 by nicholaschan.

    Thailand! Shirt.

After that just walkaround with mom and dad.

    IMG_4142 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4165 by nicholaschan.

The most crowded stalls are the stalls that sell clothes, many ladies gathered and pick their favourite. Although there’s no fitting room, clothes bought can be exchange after you find it not suitable. Cool right?

Though, pasar malam (night market) have more fashion stuff then morning market, morning market is more about meat and vegetable.

One very stupid thing is, I don’t know why people want to drive into this crowded street. It’s market and full of people in the morning, they knew it and they still want to move it, mindless. The state authority should road block the place during the market hour.

  • A While at Kuan Yin Temple

A While at Kuan Yin Temple

So many bad and sad things happened lately, the dragon boat tragedy, I got food poison and went into the hospital, and camera gear spoil. Mom asked me to go to the temple for a pray for good luck and good in everything. Chinese New Year is coming and I also hoped that I will have good luck all the time.

    IMG_4338 by nicholaschan.

Long time didn’t go Kuan Yin temple already. The last time, was like before SPM which we were having temples hopping in Penang.

    IMG_4339 by nicholaschan.

So last week, I went there with Arron and Chien Chern. Bought praying materials and went to pray in the temple. The whole process took like 15 minutes.

  • Hat Yai Travel: Afternoon Walkaround in Hat Yai City

Hat Yai Travel: Afternoon Walkaround in Hat Yai City

After checking into the hotel, Novotel Central in Hat Yai, mom went to do her shopping on her own, dad went to look for massage and I was alone walking around on the street. It’s the downtown or city center of Hat Yai and it’s both tourist and locals populated area, everyone is here, very easy to roam around and I didn’t even have a map on my hand.

    IMG_3796 by nicholaschan.

Right below my hotel is a shopping centre, Central. I didn’t went in to see, it’s a department store. Instead, I started off my walk from the shopping centre which is right across the street, Lee Garden. I was attracted by the large Lacoste logo and Apple logo. Cool, imagine such a small city has Lacoste and Apple. I only can find Lacoste in Kuala Lumpur here in my own country.

    IMG_3798 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3800 by nicholaschan.
Enjoying the view and wind. =D

It’s nice to see people walking on the street. I always love happenings street and we usually can’t find it in Penang. Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur is happenings though. It’s not very hot in the afternoon, sun shines were blocked by the building so it’s shady.

    IMG_3804 by you.

Lee Garden is a very small shopping mall. I notice that most Hat Yai’s teenager and youngster come here to hang out just like I always go to Gurney Plaza with friends here in Penang.

    IMG_3805 by nicholaschan.

Although it’s small, there’s many thing to see. The Lacoste shop is in there and Apple too! There’s little area in the mall called Idea Market, it’s like flea market and can see a lot of handmade stuff, and the best part is that it’s air-conned and pop music blasting around. Pretty cool.

    IMG_3801 by nicholaschan.
    Big prawn! Dare to eat?

    IMG_3802 by nicholaschan.
I like coconut juice. Do you?

I didn’t really buy things because nothing interest me there. It’s just the same as in Phuket, Bangkok which I had visited several times before.

    IMG_3807 by nicholaschan.

I only bought a mobile sim pack which was used to contact my parents and post photo to my Away From Computer.

    IMG_3803 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3810 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3811 by nicholaschan.

Keep walking along the street and found another departmental store, Odean Shopping Mall. Although I am not a fan of departmental store, I did go in to take a look to see how different is their departmental store with us. Surprisingly, interior was not pretty but there’s many people inside and many brands too.

    IMG_3812 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3819 by nicholaschan.

What to buy in Thailand? Thai made funny shirt, I have a few already so I was not interested. Fake AA imitation product? Even if I do buy, I don’t dare to take out also. Genuine FTW!

    IMG_3813 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3820 by nicholaschan.

Food stalls are everywhere. Every few walks, you will see food stalls, cooked and not cooked. Thai’s street food seems delicious but I scared it’s not clean. I only drink coconut juice by the road side before only.

    IMG_3836 by nicholaschan.

Walked until very far, didn’t know where was I but I still know the way back the hotel. I believe I walked to Kim Yong Market. There’s many things to see and I was just getting into it, and my mom called me for afternoon tea. Oh shit, didn’t get to roam the whole area.

Another thing I wanted to say is there’s many 7 Eleven convenience store in just a small area. Every few turn into different street, I saw 7 Eleven, I think I saw 3-4 7 Eleven outlets there.

    IMG_3838 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3840 by nicholaschan.
    Many fruits! Apple, you like?

I asked her to wait for a while before I was quite far away from her. Another 10 minutes walk only can reach her, she was at a coffee shop near Odean. =D

Day Out At Gurney Plaza with Alvin Ng, Chien Chern and Arron Lim

Now is holiday to me, always go here and go there, I don’t feel boring because I still got a lot of thing to and want to do. Going out with friends is just part of it, I don’t want to waste so many money out also.

“Burn” money is fun as they said, but I don’t have that much money to burn, lots of gadget, camera lens, clothing are in my wishlist and shopping list, so I have a lot of saving to do. Do support my sponsors on the sidebar too. =) I didn’t look for part time job also, but then keep hoping that I can earn more from my blogging job. Anyway, still got to thank all of you for supporting my blog everyday.

One day, I forgotten when, I went out to Gurney Plaza with the usual friends, Arron Lim, Alvin Ng and Chien Chern. THey are my buddies, so don’t be surprise to always see them appear here in my blog. Most people have already go to college or are working, so I only left this few friends that keep “burning” money everyday, doing nothing, “sang” here and there.

Tell you a fun place to take photos in Gurney Plaza and that is Nichii boutique. Although the place sells all women’s clothing, but then you still can go in to take photos. The lighting is good and camera is allowed, not like other shop that don’t allow people to take photos. Very uncomfortable with that kind of shop.

Pretty lame we were, we went to the fourth floor where there’s coin game machine for very very little children. We went to put in coin and play, the helicopter and merry go around. I am too small enough to fit in those game machine. =D Frankly, I didn’t try this when I was small.

We then have afternoon tea at a cafe named Downtown Cafe, a budget eating place in Gurney Plaza, hidden at the fourth floor in front of BEST electronic store. Most workers at Gurney Plaza go there to eat.
