How I Celebrated Chinese New Year In The UK

How I Celebrated Chinese New Year In The UK – ‘There’s no such thing as Chinese New Year here in the UK’, some said to me; but the beautiful festive just went on as usual with good food, gambling & friends, minus the receiving of Ang Bao and the reunion with family & friends back in hometown. The feeling before Chinese New Year was quite depressing, especially a few days before, when you see people posting status about heading back hometown, posting photos of CNY decorations and the preparation for this festive.

However, the festive feeling turned on when I changed up a set of clothing, and went for a good meal with a bunch of Malaysian-friends who were in the same situation of not getting to celebrate Chinese New Year. The family back in the hometown got to eat a good meal, so do we, far away from home. The most important thing is get-together, since it’s a tradition festive, getting-together for a little bit of time is good, it’s not just just spending the whole day at work and being alone.

I shut myself from working on assignments, I stopped thinking about budget during the past CNY weekends and had a good time eating some really good meal. There’s the first ‘reunion’ dinner at a Malaysian restaurant then a KTV session on the CNY’s eve. Then I attended a Chinese New Year dinner organised by my university’s Malaysian Society and spend the night with many Malaysian on Chor 1. The celebration shifted from Newcastle to London where I had a good steamboat and drunk night, with again friends from Malaysia, but specifically, Penang. Lastly, a visit to the super-crowded Chinatown in London on Chor 3 had gave me a strong feel of the Chinese New Year atmosphere in a foreign land. A great weekend I had, and it’s time to get back to work. Happy Chinese New Year to all!

    ROM: Steve + Lihong

ROM: Steve + Lihong – So many sad things happened lately, assignments, haze, blackout505, Penang freaking storm that kills, Penang Bridge accident and more. But let’s not talk about the sad thing and share some happy stuff with you. Well, my classmate, Steve has got married with his wife Lihong! Oh, congratulation and it’s not what you think it is. Hahaha. But I am very happy that they get to be together officially, and sweetly.
I was there at his marriage registration at Thean Hou Gong Temple, which indirectly brings me to a visit of this famous temple. Is the temple nice? Sorry, Kek Lok Si in Penang is so much better than that. HAHA.
Marriage registration thingy was pretty fast, and it’s simpler than I thought. I thought it’s something very complicated, but it’s just signing a few papers, read the vow, say ‘I Do’ and done. The rest of the time was just waiting and taking photograph.
It’s just another happy thing in life, if you ask me about marriage thingy? Well, I just feel that it’s still so far away from me, I want to get settle down in a place first, get indulged in a nice career, earn the first pile of gold, get a house, then, this is it. Haha.
Anyway, congratulation to Steve and Lihong. By the way, what is the ideal age to get married for you? =D

Lou Sang @ Kechara Oasis – Finally, the first Lou Sang of the year of snake! Two more weeks till Chinese New Year 2013 and the atmosphere and celebration is starting already. Lou Sang is one of my favourite thing to do during Chinese New Year because it’s funny, fun and shiok. But then I don’t really like to eat the Yee Sang, I just like to Lou. Haha.
Anyway, we did the Lou Sang last Monday at Kechara Oasis, a high-end vegetarian restaurant and I still prefer a Yee Sang with raw fish. Oh oh oh, let’s lou sang!
    Group photo! Alamak, so formal!

Post-Thaipusam Karaoke & Lots Of Birthday

Post-Thaipusam Karaoke & Lots Of Birthday – Last Monday night, I went to KTV with a bunch of uni friends, it had been a while that I’ve been to the KTV and you know during high school time, I go karaoke at least once a month! Oh, now it seems like the feeling for karaoke, screaming like crazy in the KTV room is back!
Actually that day I was very paiseh at there, because that it’s actually a birthday celebration for many people! I felt so bad and embarrassed that I didn’t know it’s a celebration, and I went there empty handed. =( Argghhh oh my, sorry friends that I know nothing about it and I wish you all happy birthday from here. So to prevent myself from feeling bad, I kept myself not to think my singing non-stop. Hahaha. But sincerely, I do wish you all happy birthday, Dai Lou Wei Kean, Dai Lou girlfriend – Iris, Zhi Inn, Quenna and Connie. =)
Connie, Dai Lou Wei Kean, Iris, Quenna and Zhi Inn. =)
The KTV destination was Loudspeaker and K at night was RM27 per person for 3 hours with free flow of drinks. Well, price is OK but the duration was short. 3 hours only, ended everything at 1.30am and I still felt early despite I have work the day after. HAHA, guess I played too much for the last weekend already.
    Hug hug.
    Henry Gor!
Anyway, it was a fun night. KTV rocks! But no K-Pop song please, I am Chinese song singer. Haha.

    Departure To London, Tee Jin

Departure To London, Tee Jin – Tee Jin, the name that I knew 5 years ago. My classmate for the last three year of high school, Form 3, Form 4, Form 5, my Leo Club mate, a friend, a source of motivation, sort of an education guider, a good friend. Although, there’s some misunderstanding many years back, yet, he’s good, friend.

    Hock Sheng.
    Khai Liang.
Playing his very new Olympus OMD. What a delicious camera to eat.
London is his next destination, the UK is his new home for the next 3 years, for studies, for travel, for exploration. I and a few friend went to the airport to send him off and bid good bye.
    Tee Jin
I don’t see sadness in me, I see cheer, excitement, perhaps nervous, as it’s good for him to step foot into the global metropolitan of London.

I am envy, I am jealous, and I want to go too! Many friends have already leaved Malaysia, there’s still many people here too, but the heart in me is – leave. No, I am not un-patriotic, I just want to explore, gain, learn, see and share and I am fed up with the Malaysia political scene. Where shall I go? The Singapore, the UKs, I shall plan. My family, my girlfriend, do you want to go together?

Been through this gate many times. Shall try going through and not come back for some times.
Bon voyage Tee Jin, I shall see you soon in the UK, one day, next year, I assume.

DETA – Dulux Emerging Talent Award @ KBU College

DETA – Dulux Emerging Talent Award 2012 @ KBU College – Only 4 person from my class, another 6 from the degree’s class and 5 of my senior went to the Dulux Emerging Talent Award on last Saturday. It was supposed to be more than that, in fact my lecturer invited everyone to go but all of them were lazy and has no passion of it. I told myself, since it’s my final year in Taylor’s University, so why not? Just go for fun, get some inspiration, experience, foster friendship and play.

Funny that the lecturer actually booked 2 bus but ended only 10 boarded the bus. Haha. So sad for them.

DETA - Dulux Emerging Talent Award @ KBU College

It was a competition for interior design student held at KBU College and 3 winners get to go to Amsterdam and some other part of Europe for free! Cool right? But it’s not for me as I am not that good, yet. HAHA. There’s more than 10 school participated in this little competition and it’s pretty happenings at there.

So basically, the competition was about designing a space concept for different type of space – Restaurant, Office, Gallery. Each of us were divided into 3 different team and each team get their own type of space. I’ve got office design. We were given a paper box and some paint colour as well as some recycling material, then we have to produce a conceptual design through all the material.

Well, I kinda suck at it, blur at first then came up with a childish stuff in the end. Admit that I was blur and stucked. Haha. However, looking at other’s creative work, it gives me an energy to search for creativity and study on creativity. Yeah! My school has a few person got into final, but then didn’t make it for the grand prize.

The college has notice board for Club and Society. It feels so ‘high school’ to me! =D

PIK NIK Food & Gathering With Primary School Friend

PIK NIK Food & Gathering With Primary School Friend – It’d been a while that I see and meet my primary school’s friend. After studying in Chung Ling High School, it seems like I was lost in contact with most of them. All the while I was like mixing with high school friends, only when Facebook arrives on the web, we started to communicate again. Well, it’s nice to have some nice primary school mate who organises some gathering session.

Well, thanks Joanne for organising that recent gathering session at PIK NIK when I was in Penang few weeks ago. I was pretty excited for that as I haven’t been meeting for a long long time. In fact, I did forget about a few girls in the invitation list, hehehe, but not now. Now I’ve remember all of you! No worry.

It was dinner, it was gathering, it was photo session, it was Zenga session, it was just joking around, it was reunion. Funny that I didn’t know what to talk at first, was shy at the girls, nothing much with the boys as they were high school mate. But crap and bullshits coming out of mouth after some warm up of “Hello” here and there. Laughter started to break the silence. HAHAHA.

How about food? Not low price, but looks good! Should have tried out the smoked salmon waffle. I ordered a new food in the menu – Spicy Kimchi Spaghetti and seriously…. It’s HOT AND SPICY! But with my spicy tongue, it’s still acceptable.

    Spicy Kimchie Spaghetti with sausages.

Chicken Waffle Burger. Looks yummy and very worth with that portion.

Smoked Salmon Waffle – Yums! Very good.

    Bacon Waffle.

Food presentation does indeed looks pretty at there. Forgot to mention, the owner behind this little cafe is a Graphic Designer! That’s why you will see very irregular seatings and fancy graphical artwork around the cafe. Cool place to chill, perhaps in the afternoon. It gets pretty noisy at night. =D

Photos of some Zenga session and group shot with them…

Nice expression of Vi Vien before falling off .

Good To See You Guys (5SA1 – Class Of 2009) – What a night… Spent the rainy night chit chatting with bunch of old friends of Chung Ling High School that have not met for a long time at the hawker stall and Starbucks Coffee, Straits Quay. It’s a good night to gather around and talk crap, mostly listening to Juan Shong talking his awesome life in United Kingdom. Although not everyone turned up, but it’s good to meet up.

Each of them have their own path of life, most of who I’ve met are and is going to the U.K., a few in Penang, a few going to Kuala Lumpur, a few to Johor, and me? Still gonna be in Kuala Lumpur for a year, but no idea where to after that. =) Still early to plan I guess?

Malacca: Happenings Night @ Geographer Cafe, Jonker Walk

Malacca: Happenings Night @ Geographer Cafe, Jonker Walk – Every Friday and Saturday night, this street – Jalan Hang Jebat, or widely known as Jonker Walk came alive with big crowds of people walking along the street with stalls selling food, souvenir, clothing as well as pub, cafe decorated with many antiques.

This is the best part of Malacca and always very happenings during the weekend’s night. Shopping and street food were not our main activity that night as we had filled our stomach with Satay Celup. So, we chilled out at the Geographer Cafe, together with some live band and beer.

The whole street turned into a trash street after midnight. At about 1.30am, we went back home. The place was quiet then. By the way, you can find various cocktails and food too at this Geographer Cafe.

  • 888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner – It was the night before London Olympic 2012 Opening Ceremony, a few friends gathered around at Presgrave Street or more likely known as Sar Tiao Lor (3rd Road) for local to eat a hot bowl of Hokkien Prawn Noodle with Roasted Pork (Siu Yok/Sio Bak) and icy ice kacang with ice cream topping.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

It’d been a while that I’ve visited this Hokkien Mee stall in Penang. It’s one of my favourite place for Hokkien Prawn Mee, especially for the top up of roasted pork (sio bak/siu yok). The soup has a strong aroma of shrimp essense and I like it with springy instant noodle. Personally, just put a little bit of chili paste will do, too much will ruin the taste of the soup. It costed me RM4.50, reasonable.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

An addition bowl of icy ice kacang with vanila ice cream topping complements to the delicious bowl of hokkien mee. I’ve forgotten about the price, roughly RM2+. Very cheap only.

After dinner, we went to CC’s house for KTV until midnight, then went to supper and cyber cafe for 2 round of DoTA (very noob and I don’t really play), then went back to CC’s house for Olympic’s Opening Ceremony. Sorry that I’ve got to say, it was not awesome, except for Mr Bean’s part.
