  • I Came Back To Chung Ling High School

After 1.5 years of high school graduation, I came back to my high school, the Chung Ling High School, number 1 all-boys Chinese school in Penang. HAHAHA. Seriously, I do misses my high school quite a lot because there’s many bit of my happy memories.

Recent visit was actually to get the official copy of my SPM result certificate (not the copy slip that I’ve got last year), to eat the delicious canteen food and also to meet friends at the Upper Sixth Form.

Poh Lin of Upper Sixth Form.

Unfortunately, I did not get the SPM result certificate because that there’s no one in the admin office to attend us. We were there during lunch hour and they were out for lunch break. Too bad, so we just spent time wandering around school, eat and talk.

I am now in college, and many friends are still in high school doing the Sixth Form (A Level equivalent) and because of that I get to meet them when their classes dismiss. It was really nice to meet back all the high school mates and most of them haven’t change a bit. It brings back the times when we actually spend times every day in school together, doing some useless funny thing.

High school was fun, real fun. Some say being in an all-boys school will be boring because there’s no chick, but you are wrong, it’s fun as there’s no limitation and hesitation in our acts, doings and talking. We talk whatever we want.

Some even afraid of boys will turn into gay or afraid of being abused by gay. But I tell you, I found no gay (one or two perhaps) which they are probably embarrassed to approach the straights at that age. And one thing, I have no comment on gay, neither hate or like.

    Arron Lim.

Do you know that Chung Ling High School has many powerful alumni? Singapore’s Minister of National Development was a Chung Ling boy. Jiang Haoliang who is the General Manager-Business in Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (factory that makes iPhone) was a Chung Ling boy. More and more.

    Yan Chien Chern.

Well, another thing I got to say is that the canteen food is still cheap. Cheapest tid bits starts from RM0.20 for a piece of fried wantan, and normal food like Koay Teow Th’ng starts from RM1.20! Best food are Koay Teow Thng, fried egg, wantan mee and the economy mixed rice. These are awesome!

    Ong Jing Min.

Ai Wu Chung Long 爱吾钟灵, the school motto, I Love My Chung Ling.

  • Sunset At Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul

I think and think and think, I think Teluk Kumbar is located in Gertak Sanggul, and Gertak Sanggul is under the district/town or Bayan Lepas. Am I correct? When people talk about Hai Boey or Hao You seafood, you will hear about Teluk Kumbar and Gertak Sanggul. This two names always make me confuse about the place.

Nevertheless, they are both the same place in my opinion. I hear more people say Teluk Kumbar more than Gertak Sanggul. Recently, I went there to have my seafood dinner with my family and I took out my camera to take some shorts of the seaside and sunset.

It’s a really nice place to eat seafood because it’s by the sea have some seatings near the beach, and a little children playground too. So it’s not all about eating, but play too!

    Have you been there before?

  • A Short Walk In Heritage Site, Muntri Street

Penang gained the UNESCO Heritage status few years back and the local tourism business is blooming. There’s many restoration work going around in the city and there’s still stubborn owner or heritage building doesn’t want to restore and beautify their property. OMG.

Recently, I passed by Muntri Street and saw some cool cafes and some stylish hostel for tourist and backpackers. Curiousity made me stopped and went to check out the place for a while.

I didn’t really know that there’s so many restoration and heritage stuff on Muntri Street last time. When talked about Muntri Street, I thought about the Teo Chew Porridge shop and the Chinese Thean Hou Temple, that’s all.

But now, my perception towards the street change, it is a very old street, a very heritage streets fill with arts, culture and history, so do hostel, cafes and mini accommodation.

Being a Penangite, I want to appreciate the Penang’s heritage site more and being an interior design student, I have strong feel on heritage architecture, they are really very pretty.

Penang can be one of the top heritage city in the world like in Europe, fill with nice old building architecture, yet the people in Penang have to take up the responsibilities to preserve and restore the old building.

Having an organized and clean city is awesome. Investment comes into the state, better facilities and better lifestyle too! I just love my own hometown so much. It’s so pretty and proud to be a Penangite.

I have trust in the current state government led by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. Looking forward to see Penang in the future where it will transform into the best city in Malaysia. =D

  • Youth Jam 2011 At Penang Times Square

Last weekend’s Youth Jam 2011 (Powered by SONY Malaysia), organized by Penang Youths was a blast because it had so many awesome activities and great prizes for the youth. It was an event for the youth, organized by the youth leaders of Penang which they called it the Penang Youth and I saw it’s a pretty good approach on getting young people together and have a little carnival-liked thingy for them to enjoy.

My friend was part of the organizing team and as a support, I went to check out what’s around there on day 1 and day 2. I feel the idea and the concept of the event is pretty good, somehow that I feel the crowds were not strong enough, and if there’s fun fair around then it’s perfect.

Graffiti Competition, congrats to Jin Xin who got champion.

Though, the activities was pretty interesting, like treasure hunt, photography competition, blogger awards, graffiti competition, dance and cheerleading workshop, food competition, cosplay showcase and the best part was the talent search. I think the talent search event was awesome because it attracted so many talented people to come and join the audition at first.

Well, another great thing to talk about was the prizes! The prizes for all the competition were really awesome as there were big cash prizes, lots of DSLR and Sony Cybershots cameras, hampers, and even get signed by a local producing company for the talent search champion.

I myself submitted my blog for the youth blog awards and I won the Best Content Award and Best Food Blog Award. This shows that Penang has not many blogger, yet. Haha.

After visiting the event for 2 days, I felt the best parts were receiving my award and see the talent search competition final as my high school friend, Ang Min Sheng got the Golden Ticket (Highest Like Vote on Facebook) who went straight to the final with his partner, Jerry. Their group name is Hardwater, which actually a translation from Penang Hokkien – Ngeh Zhui, which means being insisting. Haha.

I went to show my support and went to check out others too. All the finalists were really powerful and now I realized that in a talent search competition, singing just one song or showing of a kind of performance is not enough. Now is about mash-up and multi-talent. Almost every finalist created their own mash-up and sang various songs in their performance. Cool.

    Hardwater.

The talent search was like a concert because the contestant knows their stage act well, like how to cheer the crowds. Really cool. If there’s more people at there, then it will be real cool, just too bad there’s not much people checking the competition that day.

Lio Yi Jun who was the project director.

Jazz Tan, the managing director for the event and Penang Youths.

    Saatesh, my NS friend.

The Chung Ling High School friends. Min Sheng, Jerry, me, Yong Fu, Huan Jie and Ren Yu.

Well, did meet some friends at there too besides just checking out the talent search competition.

One last cool thing was there’s a Michael Jackson imposter who was real young and really super “Michael Jackson” and powerful. Like all his dance move, he was so MJ!

  • Haegen Dazs For Yiphing’s Birthday

Hohoho, I want to wish Yiphing the Bunny Shakespears a happy birthday. She is a good friend of mine that I know her for like 4 years already. Last night, we wanted to go look for gift for her with Boo Teik, Chien Chern and Johnny Zheng Feng at 1st Avenue but we was late and many shop was already close already and we thought of Haagen Dazs in the end.

We brought a pint and went to her house straight for a surprise. Our plan was Chien Chern called her that his car broke down somewhere near her house and wanted her to come fetch him. Then when she come out from her house, we surprised her with the ice cream and a candle.

    Happy Birthday Yiphing. =D

Yay, got ice cream eat. =D Happy Sunday too!

  • Somewhere Around Buckingham Street and Campbell Street, Penang

    P1060871

You know, I really wish that there’s more shops to walk around in downtown, the George Town, the capital city of Penang. There’s full of old and classical and beautiful heritage building and architecture which makes people feels good, just like me. I wonder why there’s no developer make a shopping street in town so that people can appreciate the UNESCO status of Penang more.

    P1060874

People prefer to go walk at the shopping mall rather than travel around the city. The city is like a place more to the tourist then the local. Hmm.

There’s one street in Penang that has a great potential to develop into a shopping street like the Campbell Street connecting to the Buckingham Street at the end. It was a glory back in 80’s where Chinese pioneered the shops here with friendly people and shoplots. But as years goes on, shop owner moves away to other place as they don’t really own the shop.

Grandpa had a furniture shop here 10 years back but it’s no more right now as the owner stop renting the place. If plan well, this street can be a great place for the local to hang out with cool heritage architecture. Let it be cafes, fashion boutique and restaurants, it will be so awesome.

If I am rich, I’ll buy and develop this place, but too bad I am not rich. HAHA. Penang State Government and Penang Development Corp., please do something to bring back the glory of Campbell Street. =D

  • Hong Kong: North Point and Central 香港北角与中环

Hong Kong: North Point and Central 香港北角与中环

Let’s go to Hong Kong now shall we? =D Almost forgotten that I have many photos to share with you during my Hong Kong trip few months back. Hong Kong is indeed a lovely place that I wouldn’t feel bored after visiting for so many times. In this post, I will bring you to Central from North Point.

Central 中环 in Hong Kong is the CBD (Central Business District) and have various high rise office building and shopping malls too! And North Point 北角 was the place I stayed during my trip in Hong Kong. Hehe.

Because of cheap fare (HK$2 to everywhere) and want to sightseeing early in the morning, we took the tram connected straight to Central. It’s pretty nice to take the tram with cool weather out there and you can see the city slowly. It was around 10am and we wanted to go Central to “Yum Cha” which literally means drinking tea, but actually is to look for dim sum breakfast. I found out that there’s a very old and famous Hong Kong dim sum tea house.

After alighting the tram, we tried to look for the place to the dim sum tea house. No one of us actually been there before, we walked there with the guide of Google Maps. Luckily I’ve got a Hong Kong SIM card on my iPhone. =)

Central area is really pretty because of the huge office towers and old Hong Kong – British architecture. People in suits and OL walking everywhere, it’s really a busy place and I like it. =D

The morning Hong Kong is so pretty. I just couldn’t resist myself from pressing the camera shutter. I wanted to capture every bit of the place to keep in my photo album and share with you guys. The Hong Kong city is just so beautiful.

Hong Kong is too densely populated already. CBD is not really CBD, there’s still people living around that area, rich and poor; wet market and groceries store. You can see all walk of life at there too. The Hong Kong culture is really strong. People are walking everywhere, every alley, it’s people all the time and walking.

I wonder why construction site in Hong Kong are so pretty. They are so colourful that I want to take photos of them. Unlike the one at here are so dull and boring.

After 20 minutes of walking, we found the dim sum tea house, Lin Heung Lao 莲香楼. It’s just so crowded and there’s not even a spot to sit. We waited for 10 minutes and there’s no people moving out of their seat. The waiter told us that whenever some one get up, we must go to sit down, but then it’s just hardly get 4 people seats together. And in the end, we decided not to eat at there and eat at the opposite.

    It’s so much better. =D

  • Long Time No See Yiphing, Chien Chern and Raykee Aw

Long Time No See Yiphing, Chien Chern and Raykee Aw

I met 3 of my crazy buddies, Yiphing, Chien Chern and Raykee Aw (Chen Yuen) last week! It’s really long time no see. The last time I saw Yiphing was, I’ve forgotten, last year I guess, the last time I met Chien Chern was 4 weeks ago and the last time I met Raykee Aw was last year too! It’s really had been a long time.

    Yan Chien Chern.

Moving on and getting apart is just some part of our life right? Still remember we hang out almost all the time during the time after high school and before college. But after that, everyone have their own life and busy with their own thing. It’s not easy to get back to what it was when everyone was busy with different things.

    Raykee Aw Chen Yuen.

I guess, that’s life? Meeting friends once in a while is happy. The time we spend most with friends are during high school, so cherish your moment.

    Yiphing.

Not saying friends are the most important people in your life, there’s still your family. When you get apart from your friends, family are they one that you should get close to, no matter what, family is still the closest and friends comes next. With the equilibrium of friends, family, work, and enjoy, that’s a perfect life.

Hello friends, are you still reading my blog? =D I miss you all.

  • First Day With Sigma 8-16mm At Hard Rock Hotel Penang

This is what I did after getting my new Sigma 8-16mm super ultra wide angle lens for Canon mount last week. =D I asked my girlfriend, Hueisean together to go to the Hard Rock Hotel to try some shots with the latest lens.

I think I can be the ambassador for Hard Rock Hotel Penang because I always go there to take photos and walk for fun, then post onto my blog. =D I guess that’s the best relaxing place to take photos and because they have parking spaces too!

You see the lens, it’s so wide that it can capture almost everything with little and unnoticeable distortion. It was a quiet afternoon with no live band at the lobby as live band is only available during the night. Though, the laughter and shouting of kids and adults playing at the pool can be heard. What a lovely evening.

It was close to sunset but sunset was no where to be seen. It’s not super hot yet, sun shines on our faces and the warm sunlight touched our skin. We spent a little time at the beach, taking photos and chit-chat with each other, at the same time see people playing water sports.

The ivory golden sandy beach outside Hard Rock Hotel is no doubt the cleanest beach in Penang. The other beaches are dirty.

    She jumped.

Perspiration started coming out from the pores and it’s also the time for us to leave the hotel for some cooling in the vehicles. It’s nice to try out the lens at this place but what I wanted to shoot most is some nice interiors.

    Interiors like something below:

The lobby and a male toilet. =D I’ve no regret of getting this lens because it’s serve me well as a interior design student and a photography enthusiast. Welcome to Hard Rock Hotel.
