Remembering Steve Jobs 1955-2011 – It’s a very sad morning for today, 5th October 2011 (Malaysia: 6th October 2011) as the great founder and leader of Apple Inc – Steve Jobs has passed away. Steve Jobs was and is always my idol. The reason I love Apple, I be a Apple’s fanboy is because of him. He is great not just making awesome products like MacBook, iPhone, iPod and others, it’s the way he create it, the way he shows it to the world, the way he vision the products to be in the future, the way he leads Apple to today’s success.

I knew Apple product when I was 9 years old (2002), it was eMac, lamp shape iMac back then as well as the scroll wheel iPod, then I knew about Steve Jobs  like in 2007 when he introduced the first iPhone 2G (I bet many of you might not scene it before because it was not available in Malaysia). I saw the keynote, I saw the iPhone, although hardware wasn’t that great, yet it did it well, it became the world’s phone today.

I followed every of his keynote in the past, I read about him, I just felt that he was not simple, he was a great leader, he just is like the God in the technology world. He became an idol in my heart, just like how people obsessed football player or singer, actress, I obssess Steve Jobs. Think, Sony made Walkman but it took them so long for everyone to know about the name “Walkman”, Apple made “iPod”, but just a year or two, it’d becomes everyone’s name in the mouth for MP3 player. iMac’s design was weird, un-standard with the computer design of that time, yet it looks pretty, minimalist, designer’s feel. iBook, eBook was cute and comes the MacBook Pro (PowerBook) where aluminum laptop design comes in.

In 2007, comes the iPhone, the device that changed the people look at phone. Touchscreen wasn’t a new thing at that time, but then many failed to promote a touch screen device. It’s Apple who shows the world the true capability of touchscreen. Multi-touch gesture came to us. Then other company started to produce touchscreen device to compete – HTC, Samsung, Nokia and so-on. Because of Apple, everyone is releasing touchscreen mobile phone now.

iPad in 2010 was a great product. Tablet computing was not famous back then yet it existed like many years ago. It was using a stylus and running Windows. They were not sensitive, they were slow and not user-friendly, yet the release of the Apple iPad tablet changed the world of tablet computing. Everyone bought it. Everyone like it. Then comes the rival company producing the samething – Acer Iconia Tab, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Motorola Zoom.

Steve Jobs and the company – Apple had created many great product to us. He was a great presenter, I like the way he gives the keynote, the way he conduct it, the way he talk. It’s just became my guide in doing a presentation. No doubt he is the great presenter of all time to me.

    100_1033_copy

    I love my iPod Nano 2G (2006), iPod Shuffle 2G (2007), iPod touch 1G (2007), iPhone 3GS (2009), MacBook (2010), Apple iPad 1G (2010), MacBook Pro (2011).

No more Steve’s awesome keynote now, no more “boom”, no more “one more thing”, no more “extraordinary”, no more long sleeve, turtle neck and Levi’s jeans, no more Apple old man. He’s gone. RIP Steve Jobs. Remember you always.

  • HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly – The building of condominium and shopping malls along Gurney Drive is truly a good thing which brings a nice skyline to Penang island. However, the shore or the Gurney Drive’s bay is getting super duper ugly during low tides with a big area of muddy land. The government seriously need to do something to overcome this problem.

This is an eyesore to both the locals and tourists who visit the famous Gurney Drive. As you know Gurney Drive is pretty famous for the seaside, Gurney Plaza shopping mall and the hawker centre. It will leaves a bad impression for those who took photos when the sea is on a low tides.

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

I heard about that Gurney Drive did has a nice beach 20-30 years back and sea turtle do come here to lay eggs, but they will never ever come back because of the dirty bay and the muddy area.

Something need to be done, something big. Dig a deeper sea, build a garden by the sea, perhaps bring a beach to Gurney Drive (HAHA). Hope that it will turns better in future. Finger cross.

What do you think about Gurney Drive?

  • A Week In Taylor’s University #1

    A Week In Taylor's University #1
#1: On the other side of the man-made lake.

A Week In Taylor’s University #1 – Hello people, it’s another new week again, how are you guys? I am starting something new called “A Week In Taylor’s University #” which is actually blog post full of photos that I’ve captured over the week. I compiled them up and I blog it up in a shot. One long post of all the photos of the week. It would be easier and you won’t be seeing similar thing everyday. =D

#2: Lazy dog lying at staff’s carpark.

Of course it’s not my first week in Taylor’s University, it’d been I-don’t-know-how-many-weeks. Well, if you ask me about the experience in this campus, it would be good and bad, I love the beautiful campus, however, I kinda dislike the way they administrate the school. It’s a little big too money-centric which I certainly hates.

Another thing is the syllabus for Diploma In Interior Design isn’t that great after all. OMG. I did learn something, but I also did learn something not really interesting, or related to design, it could be said as not practical with future work.

#3: Hate to see the Autopay sign where it reminds you to pay.

    #4: Cloud overcasting the sky.

Blablabla. If I were to rants about it, it would be a bloody long post but I don’t want to. Haha. It’d been raining quite a lot last week. The sky was scattered with clouds all the time, and I kept afraid of raining down because I have to walk to the carpark to fetch my car. There’s no covered walkway. It’s just so stupid. Haha.

#5: iPhone games are just everywhere in school.

#6: Kevin To in the background.

Studies was OK, just a little bit stress and worried on assignments. Because all in the mind was getting a good result, which results in a pushing myself too much. Sometimes, I told myself to take a break, sometimes, I told myself to push. What a funny me.

    #7: Wanyi’s drinking water.

#8: A dark and cloudy day.

Well, do you like it when a lecturer tell you that the class is canceled, or no class for the day? It sure sounds good and fun, however at the same time felt pain in the ass, because every lesson is money. $$ You might be thinking I am being money face, yes money is very important, yet tuition fees is expensive. Haha. How wish the tuition fee could be lower, even if it’s lower, I need to be convinced that the fee worth it, but till now, I am not convinced yet. Hmm. What do you think?

Truth is, I think I’ve picked the wrong school? Perhaps, but thing has been done, decision has been made, so I have to go with the flows. Hoping that I will be convinced one day.

#9: Lecturer was playing a video for us to see.

#10: Had Moral Education mid-term exam which was pretty fun and easy.

    #11: The Kebab Stall.

#12: Working on the kebab, smells delicious, priced expensive at RM8 per kebab sandwich.

Spent quite a lot of time recently in campus because of group work for the assignments and projects. The thing that I like about the school is having a good facilities where we can work out on projects during free time.

#13: Workers painting the outdoor table. Good job,

#14: Wesley’s acting cute and Jia Hui was concentrating with the music on the iPhone.

#15: Some Sony Walkman event in the campus.

#16: Delicious mamak-style fried rice at Star Teh Tarik for only RM4.

And there’s many food and beverage outlets which are pretty cool. I like Star Teh Tarik, a mamak store in the campus which is my favourite dining place because of the low price. HAHAHA. Not forget to mention, the food is good in taste too.

#17: In a classroom overlooking the mad-made lake. Looking ugly at the end where the open air rocky road carpark is.

    #18: Some entertainment in class.

    #19: iPad gaming in class.

#20: More iPad user in action.

#21: 1:1 sculpture by the architecture students.

    #22: Farah’s smilling to Wesley.

#23: Security guard looking at the lake, relaxing.

#24: The 3 beautiful academic blocks. Too bad, there’s only 3 of them. The word “UNI” at the roof looks weird.

#25: The lake with an ugly end.

#26: Fire hydrant by the lake. Was playing with my Sigma f1.4 30mm lens.

    #27: Another unfavorable sign.

#28: FREE parking is always uber far away.

Well, let’s see how this week will be to me. Super duper looking forward to the Apple event tomorrow and also the Nine Emperors God Festival on Wednesday. =) Do you like your college?

  • Cecil Street Market And Hawker Stalls (Qit Tiao Lor Ban San / 七条路巴刹)

Cecil Street Market And Hawker Stalls (Qit Tiao Lor Ban San / 七条路巴刹)
#1: You will know the place by seeing the name Pusat Penjaja Lebuh Cecil which means Cecil Street’s Food Court.

Cecil Street Market And Hawker Stalls (Qit Tiao Lor Ban San / 七条路巴刹) - Cecil Street, also known as Qit Tiao Lor in Hokkien or literally means 7th Road is famous for its market and hawker stalls. Many locals love to flock into the market and hawker stall to eat out and hunt for good food as there have a variety of local Penang hawker food to choose from.

#2: A Hokkien Prawn Noodle stalls which haven’t open yet.

Cecil Street Markat & Hawker Stalls is one of my favourite place to eat in Penang given that the place is more local-ish to me with 99.9% people eating out are locals and for its great variety of local food. I dislike hawker food stalls like at tourist centric Gurney Drive area and New Lane.

    #3: Aunty was thinking something.

#4: A busy woman talking on the phone and wanting to buy kuih.

#5: At the kuih stalls, the owner lady trying to tell the girl how much it is for the kuih.

Yesterday, I went there with my mom to have lunch, and also to buy some stuff from the market to cook at home. It was about noon time and you can hear many people chattering around with coffee boy shouting here and there loudly to order a drinks for the customers.

#6: Another hidden and good hokkien prawn noodle stalls. The name is Ah Lai’s Hokkien Prawn Noodle.

#7: Disabled person trying to earn some living by selling his voices – singing karaoke, which turns out to has a good voice.

#8: An old lady waiting for … someone, or food.

#9: Picking dishes which to be eat with porridge.

Aroma of local food can be inhaled at there. Hokkien dialect is the main language of the hawker food stalls area which can be heard almost everywhere. Everyone was busy chomping their food and talking. I was then busy taking photos around, capturing the image of the locals to share with you guys.

#10: Fishmonger scrapping off the fish scales.

#11: A man in helmet picking shrimps.

#12: Eat more vegetables which is very good for your health.

#13: Garlic, do you like it? Yes, I do.

#14: A lady buying stuff at the market.

I’ll show you in other post that what I have eaten yesterday. Porridge with a few dishes, and a bowl of Penang hokkien prawn noodle was my lunch yesterday, which is deliciously good.

To simplify, it’s another religious and happenings festival in Malaysia for the believer of Nine Emperor Gods. I missed the festival last year but I think I will not be missing it again this year as I would like to see how’s the festival is at here in Kuala Lumpur. In Penang, it is a very happenings night on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month where thousands will gather to send the gods in the procession. I have been to the procession in Penang in 2008 and 2009.

Devotees praying for blessing on the Nine Emperor Gods Festival.

In Kuala Lumpur, the procession is located in Ampang and I am planning to visit the temple. In order to visit the procession, I have to eat vegetarian on the day itself.

A plate of vegetarian bee hoon costs RM1.50.

In Penang, you will see lots of yellow flags hanging around which is actually telling you that the festival is going on and don’t be surprise to see many temporary set up stalls by the roadside selling vegetarian food. It’s pretty interesting to eat the vegetarian food, they are cheap in price, and some are quite delicious.

    Vegetarian Pizza.

    Chinese tangyuan.

Lobak in vegetarian version, which means they’re halal.

Not to forget, they have lots of variety too. You can even find lots of local delicacies like laksa, hokkien prawn mee, curry mee in vegetarian version, as well as western food like pizza, burger and more in vegetarian.

    Fish burger ala vegetarian style.

Even the not-halal bak kut teh has a vegetarian version.

You should visit Madras Lane if you are in Penang because there are a row of food stalls selling vegetarian. If you are interested in checking out the event, you can visit Hong Kong Street / Carnavon Street in Penang Island on Wednesday night and Tou Bu Kong at Raja Uda. Do respect the god by eating vegetarian before you come.

  • Last Night In The Dorm Room

Last Night In The Dorm Room

Last Night In The Dorm Room – Life at night is pretty fun in my dorm room where the lights are dimmed, soft music is turned on and later lying on the bed to enjoy a couple of drama show. I have tried to create a relax environment in my dorm room for me because I think life must be fun, and money saving too. It’s not all about party all night long, clubbing everyday which make up an enjoyable life, life can be fun in the room too.

    Untitled

Another thing is that being an interior design student, I would like to decorate my room to a cool, fun and nice room. I don’t want it to be a typical dorm room, so don’t be surprise to see many Ikea stuff in my room. I just love Ikea so much. Haha.

    Untitled

You know, moreover Internet speed gets faster at night when there’s less people using it at home. Haha. You can do more thing on the Internet. If I have a bigger room, I would like to have a Xbox 360 + Kinect, sounds so awesome! Too bad, I live in a small room.

  • My Experience In Saturday In Design Singapore

My Experience In Saturday In Design Singapore

My Experience In Saturday In Design Singapore – In May this year of 2011, I and part of my class of Diploma In Interior Design friends, as well as my lecturer Mr CK Foo all together visited a design event in Singapore called the Saturday In Design, Singapore.

Originally this event is a yearly event in the Australia where designer’s furniture shop, product designs and design studios open up their place to design lovers to visit, communicate, interact and enjoy the design, but it came to Singapore for the first time and we were pretty excited

    Chair at Morroso.

What we have visited was mainly furniture shops. These furniture are not typical house furniture but they are premium, expensive, branded and are designed by well-known product and furniture designers all around the world.

All the station (shops and studio) located at different zone, spread out in the city of Singapore. We have our Malaysia bus who ferry us around different station. There were also van to bring you around if you are in a group or if you are in a person or two, you get a luck to be drove around by Mercedez car which is actually their main sponsors for the shuttle service around the stations.

    Paper lamp shade.

It’s really an eye opening trip which most of the brands were quite new to me and I was really inspired by some of the designs. I also saw that the price for those designer’s products is pretty expensive too.

Wei Kean, me, Zhi Inn and Nita.

Nice shop houses! Really very colourful and nice. I hope Penang’s can be like this.

    Connie, Wanyi, Nita and Mellysa.

    We got free Instax too!

We actually started our tour and visits at about 11am and ended the whole thing at 5pm because we were rushing back to Malaysia that night. Despite being 6 hours in Singapore, we couldn’t cover all of the stations, we left about 2 which we did not able to visit.

We were in fact rushing from station to station with time. We did not have a proper lunch but then our stomach was satisfied and filled with excitement and pleasantly delicious snacks and light food which were served by almost all of the stations. They were mainly Western cocktails style snacks and light meals which were pretty good in mouth and also did a good job for preventing my stomach from growling.

    Awesome office which I like!

    Nice big red chair!

I signed my name there too!

Innovative, a good way to place your chopstick.

Food was just so awesome which makes us wanted more and more.

Checking out a cool office design.

    Shanghai is written!

Nice cut out of brown boxes cardboard art featuring the Statue of Liberty.

I believe this is somewhere in Chinatown.

    Birdman Wesley.

Well, would probably visit again in the next event, and if there’s an opportunity for me, I would like to visit the actual one in Australia. =D

  • Wet Week and Funny Head

Wet Week and Funny Head – Last week was a wet week, wet as in rainy week because it rains almost everyday in Klang Valley. I wonder what happened to the weather nowadays. Rain is fun because is chilly and make the temperature cold, I like. Also, it makes me feel sleepy too!

    Untitled
    Beautiful model making.

School is getting busier and busier, getting more and more stressful in Taylor’s University. Lots of drawing which I don’t really like, I like realistic 3D rendering; lots of hands on work to do like making model, thinking lots of concept which I like. =D

I foresee sleepless night is coming to me due to assignment. Sometimes I wonder, aren’t college life suppose to be fun? Haha. Fun in a sense of not sleeping, but at the same time, doing bad to our body. =X Anyway, I’ll try to enjoy life to the fullest everyday, look for fun in between the stress and tiredness.

    Kevin To.

Recently, I have been blogging a lot, I am back into this blogging hobby and I am liking it much, so how do you find my new blog design? =)

  • XERUD – Innovative Condom Dispenser And Fortune Teller

    [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXUUEn4jANY&w=640&h=360]

XERUD – Innovative Condom Dispenser And Fortune Teller – Asian is conservative, we are the type of people who doesn’t discuss about sex openly. “Sex” makes people feel private and embarrass. Agree?

Check out the video about how Durex gives out free condom to the people of Taiwan at the same time to spread the knowledge about safe sex. They found out giving out free condom on the street is not really a good way of marketing safe sex, so they make a fortune teller machine that dispense condom at the same time, the there’s fortune telling and safe sex message imprint on the packaging. Really innovative.

One thing, the name Xerud sounds so weird, not nice. HAHA.
