    Trip To Penang: Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion & Penang Road Chendul – After spending about an hour or less at the Peranakan Mansion, the next and also the last place to go with the PHT’s tour guide is the Blue Mansion, real name – Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. A very blue mansion that is rated top 10 mansion in the world by Yahoo! Travel.
    So, what’s so special about it? The special thing is you can take photos of it outside but inside, you are not allow to take any photos. So, sucks. The real special and cool thing is that the mansion was own by Cheong Fatt Tze, a super duper rich businessman from China. Then the mansion was built with a almost perfect feng shui setup which I don’t know how to explain, so you have to go there for a little tour to get the clue about it.
    Right now, it’s like a musuem, nothing much to see in there except listening to the tour guide explain about the place and it’s a hotel inside for tourist.

    Outside is fascinating, inside the feng shui explanation is cool, other than that, that’s it. It’s an OKOK-place for me, if I can snap pictures inside, it could be even awesome-er.
    Then,  it’s time to bid good bye to the Mr Tour Guide from PHT and it’s a very hot noon, I brought the same bunch of friends to some special treatment and that’s – Chendul! They all only know about Malacca’s Chendul, now they get to know another awesome Chendul in Malaysia – Penang Road Teochew Chendul! It’s so refreshing eating chendul under the hot weather.

    Trip To Penang: Pulau Tikus Lok-Lok & RED KTV – This is the last part of my Trip To Penang series and I’m gonna blog about something else already. Yay? Anyway, after an afternoon at the beach, we actually went to Gurney Plaza for a little walkaround and dinner, but that’s not the main thing, the main thing was what happened after that and that’s to eat Lok-lok at Pulau Tikus and later chill out at RED KTV.
    Penang’s Lok-lok is famous, especially at Pulau Tikus because of its cheap prices, varieties of sticks and also varieties of sauces, that you can hardly find elsewhere. How can I not bring my friend to check out this Lok-lok place? By the way, it’s again a private tour for this few friends because I do not drive a van.
    After lok-lok, a short tour at Straits Quay for them to check out the high end part of Penang where high end yachts are docked and a beautiful seafront promenade is. It’s time to get amazed. Penang is not just a UNESCO World Heritage City with old houses, but there’s a nice modern part developing around the island.
    Last segment of the day was a chill out session at RED KTV at Bellisa Row which I’ve not been for quite some times already. Still has the very strong smoky air, but karaoke at there was funner as lesser people were there and the lounge added a pool table for free play. So now I conclude my Trip To Penang and it was a fun trip with my classmate and hopefully there will be more trip like this.

    Trip To Penang: Batu Ferringhi Beach – Site analysis for assignment done! Now head to the beach, for some leisure time. It’s quite random and weird for a big group of people to head to the beach without a proper swim wear and the duration was just 2 hours. Some of the international students did really go for the water sports which cost as high as RM50-RM100. I don’t really know about the pricing as I was just camwhoring around with my friends, enjoying the sea breeze and seeing the other class of students parasailing and banana boating. Interesting! I want to play water sports, but not in Penang’s beach, Phuket maybe?
    By the way, look back to this, it’s funny also, because 3PM under the scorching hot sun, at the beach, nothing to do.

    Trip To Penang: Site Visit To Mr Tan’s Culture Research Studio

    Trip To Penang: Site Visit To Mr Tan’s Culture Research Studio – It was not a fully leisure trip after all, there’s still some little learning and assignment to do during the trip to Penang with my classmate last year. One of the task was site visit to Mr Tan Yeow Wooi’s Culture Research Studio on China Street and do some site analysis organized by Mr CK. We actually took that little shop house of Mr Tan’s as our site for my last design project which is a Nyonya’s restaurant. =D
    So, we spent some times looking around for key space, did some measuring, photograph a lot for reference later then and feel the space. To be honest, it’s not easy to design a restaurant there as I can say that it’s one of the smallest Chinese shophoues in Penang.

    Trip To Penang: Peranakan Mansion

    Trip To Penang: Peranakan Mansion – Continue back on the Penang Trip with my classmate, now we came to the Peranakan Mansion, one of the attractions that I have never been before, it’s my first time going there during the trip. All the while, I never visited before is because one need to buy ticket to go in, RM10/person if I am not mistaken and that’s why. Hahaha. Since I’ve paid for this little trip, so the Peranakan Mansion is included.
    It’s a museum, it’s a truly beautiful Peranakan Nyonya house with eclectic Straits Chinese decoration throughout the place. If you are a person who loves to learn about the history of Straits Chinese, this might be a good place for you to indulge into the culture, and history of Peranakan, or also known as Straits Chinese. It’s a very well-preserved place and it gives you another perspective of Penang. It’s not a very big house, but then it basically explains what’s the life of Straits Chinese in the olden days.
    So what I did there was just walk around and take photos. I didn’t really listen to the guided tour. Hehe. So let the pictures speak now.

    Trip To Penang: Night Tour To Gurney Paragon

    Trip To Penang: Night Tour To Gurney Paragon – Khoo Kongsi was the last stop for the day for the ‘Trip to Penang with DID Classmate’ and after that it’s night time and I brought a few friends for a private tour around Penang. I wanted to bring more people to see the night side of Penang but I have a car that only can fit 5 people in total so, sorry for them. XD
    We went for food at 3rd Road Lebuh Presgrave, desserts at Kimberley Street, a quick tour of Straits Quay, and ended up to check out Gurney Drive and Gurney Paragon before taking them back to the hotel and call it a day. It’s quite tiring for the first day in Penang for everyone so there’s not much of night exploring, but there’s still more to go on the next day.
    In this new year of 2013, I am so looking forward to the opening of the new mall of Gurney Paragon. At the moment, Gurney Paragon has the front section – St. Jo’s Square open with F&B outlets as well as the two towers of luxurious condominiums. The mall at the back will open soon, mid of 2013 I assume and it’s gonna be awesome and high end.
    Meal at Lebuh Presgrave for awesome supper Hokkien Prawn Mee. Wesley was complaining about the spiciness of Char Koay Teow. Oh oh oh, it’s not spicy to me.

    Trip To Penang: Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi – One of my favourite place in Penang is this Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi or also known aas the Khoo Clan House. It’s a very small little neighbourhood where Khoo family used to live together with house surrounding the family temple. Of course, it’s one of the must-visit for my friends of DID (Diploma In Interior Design) from different countries and states.

    It’s getting hot that afternoon so there’s not much time spend outside and I spent more time inside the Khoo Templeb which is also a musuem. Well, you don’t really get to visit the temple during free open visit like at Chinese New Year time, I did pay for this tour so I’m gonna check out the inside thoroughly.

    It’s pretty interesting to check out the Khoo Kongsi as it’s one of the largest Chinese clan house in Penang and the architecture, carving and arts are just awesomely beautiful. Touch and feel the material, the history of this place and that’s what I did, and …. I didn’t really feel anything, except the texture. HAHA.

    Trip To Penang: Little India’s Sri Mahamariamman Temple

    Trip To Penang: Little India’s Sri Mahamariamman Temple – I actually skip one place and that is the Kuan Yin Temple, I’ve been there for so many time so I’ve decided not to follow them into the heaty Kuan Yin Temple. After the St George’s Church, the Kuan Yin Temple, now across the road and we reached the Little India of Penang, a street full of Indian retail shop and also the worship place of the Indian, an Indian temple of Sri Mahamariamman.
    Unfortunately, temple was closed that day, there’s not much of touring, as usual, the Mr Tour Guide gave a introduction of the place and we went off to somewhere else, next is to the Khoo Kongsi, one of my favourite place in Penang with awesome old Straits Chinese architecture. Anyway, before heading to Khoo Kongsi, let’s check out what happened around Little India.

    Trip To Penang: St George’s Church

    Trip To Penang: St George’s Church – Was organizing the photo library of my computer and found out that there’s one album that I have not uploaded to the Facebook or the blog and here I want to share with you guys. You might notice that my title is kinda weird, I am from Penang, why a trip to Penang? It’s actually happened last year when my class (Diploma In Interior Design, DID) had a study trip to Penang and I joined the tour along! =)
    I’ve been promoting Penang quite a lot to them and finally they get to check out this lovely little island organized by Mr CK. Looking back at this photos, it was such a fun trip together and it’s seems long then the whole class haven’t been anywhere together, hopefully there’s a little trip together I hope.

    During the trip in Penang with the classmate, I followed a tour leaded by the Penang Heritage Trust. Anyone may ask them to bring you on a guided walking tour around the town too for an amount of money, I am not sure how much they charge but you may visit the website for more. The first stop was the St George’s Church at Pitt Street, one of the famous church in George Town.
