Singapore Trip: Walk At Orchard Road

Singapore Trip: Walk At Orchard Road
#1: People walking here and there.

Singapore Trip: Walk At Orchard Road – How can going to Singapore and not going to the famous shopping street, Orchard Road? Haha. Actually you can because it’s just shopping malls and I have been there for many times. On my week long trip to Singapore, brother and I were bored, no where to go and randomly went to Orchard Road.

Of course Orchard Road is nice, with many shopping malls, mid-end to high-end, no low-end, very organized, spacious pedestrian walkway, air-conditioned underpass, very straight and linear.

#2: People queing up for iPhone 4S since 12pm.

#3: More people in the iPhone 4S queue in front of Paragon.

Many people like to go to Orchard Road, but then it’s just like other typical shopping district in big city to me, e.g. Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang and Shanghai’s Nanjing Road.

    #4: The wet Orchard Road.

    #5.

    #6: External escalator at OG.

#7: The special architecture of ION @ Orchard.

We started our walk from ION @ Orchard and hopping from mall to mall. As I walk further, it started to feel nothing, because that most of the shops are repeating from mall to mall. One fine example is that on this Orchard Road, you can find three UNIQLO outlet. WOW.

    #8.

    #9.

#10: Toast box has good toast and mee siam.

It was a rainy day so the road was wet out there and luckily there’s no huge downpour. It’s just little drizzle all over the afternoon.

#11: Roof top of *SCAPE Park.

#12: Wish I can own one unit at one of these condominium, they are extremely expensive!

#13:  A place at *SCAPE that allows you to CHAT! And relax, get a coffee, sit down, study or talk with others.

I found a very cool place call the *SCAPE Youth Park, it includes a mall and also a sheltered open space which allows stalls and event booths to be set up here. The whole place is dedicated to the youth, a place for them to gather, hang out, do their dance routine, sell at the flea market, play some card games and more. Retail outlets in there are mostly stuff for the youth. I think this is a good place to gather youth instead of them hanging out at the wrong places and with the wrong gangs.

#14: AKB48 official shop in Singapore, but too bad the group is not in Singapore. Do you know AKB48? It’s a girls group in Japan that has 48 girls!

#15: DBS Remix, a new banking experience made for the Youth. It’s like a playground in there because there’s many tablet for you to play and touchscreen for you to find banking service.

#16: Trying out the interactive info touchscreen.

    #17: Alright, nickchan.net is here. =D

Didn’t really buy anything at there. It’s just walking for fun and taking photos here and there. Went to the bank to play with the LCD touch screen and drank Gongcha Bubble Tea. Haha. Orchard Road is pretty, not as pretty as Shanghai’s Nanjing Road East, but then it gets boring something, what do you think?

  • Hike Penang Hill And Ride Rapid Penang Back

Hike Penang Hill And Ride Rapid Penang Back

Hike Penang Hill And Ride Rapid Penang Back
    #1. Random faces.

Hike Penang Hill And Ride Rapid Penang Back – 8 guys, including me, previously from Penang’s famous boys school, Chung Ling High School went for a hike from Botanical Garden to Penang Hill.

Oh man! It’d been some times that I did not hike the 800+m vertical height Penang Hill for some times. The last time was like, 2 years back? It’s not easy for us, HAHA, it took us for 2 hour plus, almost 2 and a half hours to reach the top which avid hikers normally take one an a half hour non stop or some pro run up for like 45 minutes. Those who run up the slope are really crazy.

    #2: Random faces two.

I think it’s quite reasonable for us to take such a long time up because we were having our sweet time up, talking, joking and laughing all the way. Now I rethink whether I can climb the Mount Kinabalu at Sabah or not. HAHA. It needs great stamina.

#3: Top of the hill with many tourists. Woohoo. Actually Penang Hill got nothing one lo, what do you think?

Finally reached the top of Penang Hill at 10 something where we started at 8 something. Felt very happy when we reached the top as I know I do not need to suffer any more. LOL. I must train more already.

    #4: Not good fried rice.

Went to eat fried rice at the hawker stalls area for brunch and chit chat at there. Frankly, the fried rice sell by the Chinese seller was not that rice. I prefer the Malay stall at the end of the hawker stalls area. One plate of this egg fried rice without prawn cost RM4.50. WOW. Now only I know that you can’t order food from other stall at the table we sit because different stall manages different table.

#5: Is me, playing with the phone I guess.

    #6: Yan Chien Chern.

    #7: Arron Lim.

#8: Me (look like a kid), Merritt, Xiang Foong, Yong Fu, Chien Chern.

#9: Chien Chern again, Alvin, me and Arron.

#1o: The bushes which block the view of Penang city.

#11: Clearer view of George Town, awesome!

I feel Penang Hill is quite a relaxing place because when there’s wind blows up there, it feels very chilly and cool and at the same time can enjoy the beautiful view of Penang.

#12: David Brown’s Sky Terrace. Expensive restaurant! Hmm.

We bought the tram ticket at RM4 per student price person and then we went down of Penang Hill. So nice that there’s no long queue like the Hong Kong tram that I went recently and I feel the tram service in Penang is very world class one. Haha.

    #13: The gang.

    #14: Road.

#15: Road in front of Chung Ling High School.

    #16: My high school!

We wanted to take the Rapid Penang public bus back home but then we didn’t see any bus passes Penang Hill area, then we walked directly to the place where more Rapid Penang buses pass by and that’s Shang Wu Primary, pass Chung Ling High School and it’s like 3km away. Very power, because call the way we didn’t see any bus also, I wonder where all the buses gone when we were walking.

    #17: In Rapid Penang bus.

#18: At the bus interchange station, Komtar.

It’s been so long that I did not take the Rapid Penang bus too. Still the same, getting more people in the bus but not as much as in other big city. No upgrade or improvement I can see yet. I wonder when they will implement Touch N’ Go system and introduce double decker buses.  Hmm.

  • Universal Studios Singapore: Random & Going Home

Universal Studios Singapore: Random & Going Home

    #1: The hamburger shop.

Universal Studios Singapore: Random & Going Home – Well, this gonna be my last post about Universal Studios Singapore and I’ll let the random photos taken in USS speak for itself. To be honest, Universal Studios Singapore is really small, you can finish walking around it within hours and done all the ride too if there’s not many people.

Overall, it’s a good experience though as I’ve never been to famous theme park like this. I would like to visit those with more roller coaster and bigger one like Six Flag and Disneyworld in Orlando, FL, USA and Universal Studio Tokyo and more.

    #2: Steven Spielberg’s Light’s Camera Action.

#3: You can see Steven Spielberg’s special effect in there

    #4: The street.

    #5: Brother and me.

    #6: Brother and his girlfriend.

#7: Futuristic hotel at far end and a mini lake, combining the western themed building. Cool.

    #8: Shrek’s palm.

    #9: Yum yum pop corns.

    #10: Clapping hands.

    #11: Daddy O’s singing.

    #12: Hot Mel’s Dinettes.

    #13: Big fat Kungfu Panda.

#14: Betty! Weird hairstyle by the way.

#15: Asian’s Marilyn Monroe. HAHA. Came back from the dead in Asian form.

    #16: Road Runner’s girlfriend.

    #17: US!

    #18: Fake Beverly Hills. Noob.

#19: Thank you and bye bye. Took us half an hour to queue for the freaking long monorail. Why everyone want to go back at the same time?

One thing, I forget to mention is that the Monster Rock musical show was awesome. Don’t miss it in Universal Studios Singapore. Bye bye.

    Universal Studios Singapore: Cute Madagascar!
#1: The Madagascar Land, notice the right side, by Maybank. HAHA.

Universal Studios Singapore: Cute Madagascar! – After Far Far Away will be Madagascar. I bet many of you know about the movie Madagascar, it is also one of my favourite animation film and always remember the “I like to move it move it”. There’s also a few rides here, a merry-go-round with all the Madagascar character instead of horses, and a water ride which takes you through a journey of Madagascar.

    #2: Everyone busy taking photos.

At here, you will also get a chance to meet with the Madagascar character and take photos with them. I see the Alex, Marty, Julien and the penguins. All are very cute and when they came out, everyone was busy taking photos of them.

    #3

They dance and they sing. Later then we queued up to take photos with them. =D

    #4: King Julien. HAHA.

    #5: Skipper and friends.

    #6

#7: Me, brother Yik Hung, King Julien
    and brother’s girlfriend Ye Qing.

    #1: Presented by Singtel.

Universal Studios Singapore: Waterworld Presented By Singtel – Every attractions in Universal Studios Singapore are presented by some big company. Haha, and this one is by Singtel. It makes me feel funny because you can see different branding at there. LOL.

    #2

    #3

Back to the attractions – Waterworld is actually a show based on the blockbuster film “Waterworld”. I have not watched the movie before. The show actually features live action stunt with fire, explosion, acting, wave, and water splashing around. =D

    #4

    #5

Not bad, you walked into the sheltered setting with ang-mo (caucasian) actors doing stunts, jumping here and there and climbing up and down. Before the show start, they interact with us and play game with us.

    #6

    #7

Then the show start. Jet skies, motor boat moving here and there. Then explosion, smokes, and fake gun shots.

    #8

    #9

I was pretty amazed on how they move around and do stunts within a small setting.

Universal Studios Singapore: Lost World & Far Far Away

#1: The Lost World Jurassic Park, not as big as in the movie. HAHA.

Universal Studios Singapore: Lost World & Far Far Away – Previously, I showed you about the Sci-Fi City and now bring you to The Lost World & Far Far Away. Very sad on that day was that Rapid Adventure was closed for repair. It’s the water rides that will get you all wet, rushing down the stream.

#2: Two dinosaurs and 3 eggs.

I feel nothing much at there because couldn’t get to play the Rapid Adventure, so it’s just walk around, see fake dinosaur and dinosaur egg, as well as ride the mini Canopy Flyer to get a good view of Universal Studios on higher level.

#3: Playing water at the dinosaur’s egg seems fun.

Then wait for the time to come to see the WaterWorld water show which was pretty awesome and will share with you in another post. I am more interested into high speed ride although there’s a rock climbing called Amber Rock Climb which we didn’t experience.

#4: Entrance to the Far Far Away looks very fairytale.

After The Lost World is the Far Far Way with a more fairytale theme featuring Shrek 4-D Adventures, Donkey Live, Magic Potion Spin and Enchanted Airways.

    #5: Hello Fairy Godmother.
We had our lunch here randomly at the Friar’s Good Food which I think so-so only. Then went to queue for Shrek 4-D Adventure. The queue was longer than other ride, luckily there’s air-con and fan at the queuing area.

    #6: The castle.

The Shrek 4-D Advernture was pretty funny and you can experienced some weird scent, shaking chair, water spray and something touching your leg. Haha. Brother told me that it’s the same at Universal Studios in USA.

#7: Friar’s Good Food. So-so only the food.

    #8: Taking photos.

    #9: Disneyland’s seems prettier.

It got hot and sunny at here as there’s less shade at Far Far Away and perspiration beats out of the pore.

    #10: Me and brother.

#11: Random man talking on the phone. Yo, what’s up, why are you looking at the cam?

    #12: Far Far Away.

We actually came to Far Far Away twice because we were bored and done all the famous rides by afternoon. So we went to Donkey LIVE, an interactive music show.

#13: The worker at Universal Studios Singapore.

    #14: Donkey Live!

I thought it’s real donkey or some human-in-donkey-costume but it’s actually a TV projection with an interactive donkey on screen. Haha.

Previous: Sci-Fi City & Roller Coaster

  • Universal Studios Singapore: Sci-Fi City & Roller Coaster

Universal Studios Singapore: Sci-Fi City & Roller Coaster

Universal Studios Singapore: Sci-Fi City & Roller Coaster – First stop of my recent Universal Studios Singapore trip is the Sci-Fi City’s roller coaster ride – the Cylon and Human.  We were actually walking fast to the place as we were afraid of long queue but found out the queue was rather short.

We needed to keep all our stuff on the temporary locker located beside the roller coaster because nothing are allow to place in the pocket. Locker storing only up to half an hour. Then we walked into the roller coaster queuing area, and I got to tell you that the line is very long into it. Haha. Feeling nervous and excited.

It’s not scary as seen at there. It’s fast, but not fast enough, it’s high but not high enough. End up, we rode this rides four times, two each for Cylon and Human. I like the blue one more as it turns 360 degree. I thought I would throw up after my curry puff breakfast, but everything was fine. It’s just not scary enough. HAHA

There’s a light ride called the Accelerator and it’s spinning cup with a futuristic round seating design.

This ride is more for the kids as it’s not very fast and doesn’t feel dizzy after riding it. One thing about the roller coaster is that the track is not long enough as the whole thing ends within a few minutes. Very fast. Haha.

Universal Studios Singapore: Visiting The Theme Park

Universal Studios Singapore: Visiting The Theme Park – Well today gonna bring you back to Deepavali 2011 where it was Wednesday, a fine Wednesday there everyone was off from work, spending the time with friends and family, or self!

#1: Vivo City, where the monorail station to Sentosa Island is at.

I was in Singapore and I went to the Universal Studios Singapore! I have been to a few theme parks but didn’t really remember much about them as I was small – Australia Gold Coast’s Movie World, Seaworld, Dreamworld, Thailand Bangkok’s Dreamworld, Hong Kong’s Ocean Park, Malaysia’s Genting Highland, Sunway Lagoon and Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.

Ignoring all those that I have been to and Universal Studio Singapore will be my first theme park tour around the world. I want to visit all the famous theme parks like Universal Studio Japan, Disneylands, Disneyworlds, Happy Valley, Six Flag and more!

#2: Roof top of Vivo City with nice man made pool, overlooking Sentosa Island. Was walking to Food Republic for breakfast.

#3: Makan, makan, eat breakfast at Food Republic. I ate curry puff. =D Don’t want to eat much cause I scared will vomit later when riding the roller coaster. Haha.

Cut the crap and back to the day. Woke up pretty early at 8am and took the bus to Vivo City with my brother and them meet up his girlfriend at there. Was thinking of eating Burger King for breakfast but end up eating curry puff at Food Republic because Burger King hadn’t open yet.

#4: Waterfront Station, Universal Studios Singapore stop, first stop of monorail too!

Then went to the monorail station, no need queue up to buy ticket because I has a Ezlink touch n’ go card with me. Feeling excited because it’s my first time going to Sentosa Island and everyone on board has a smile on their face which makes the day merry.

#5: Walking to Casino, oops, it’s Universal Studios Singapore!

    #6: Taking photos, me!

Universal Studios Singapore: Visiting The Theme Park
#7: The famous Universal Studios globe.

#8: Me me me me me, IZ ME!

Reached the first stop – Waterfront Station, alight and head to the entrance of Universal Studio Singapore. Movie theme song was playing loud at the speaker along the way to the entrance. Spotted the big famous Universal globe and took photos of it and then headed on towards entrance.

#10: Entrance of Universal Studios Singapore.

    #11: Entry point.

#12: Kungfu Panda came to greet us.

#13: Scanning ticket. We have our own printed tickets that were bought online.

Need not buy ticket again because we bought out ticket online and has discount through MasterCard. It opens at 10am, many were started queuing already and waiting for the gate to open. Finally, it opened and we ran into it.

#14: There’s shade at part of the Hollywood Boulevard area. Luckily, else we would be hot die at there.

    #15: Hollywood.

    #15: New York.

Yes we ran and walked fast because we were worried that there will be along queue at the attractions. Haha, took photos along the way and headed to the first ride, the most “chi kek” exciting ride, the Starship Galactica Cylon and Human.

#16: More of New York. 5th Avenue, could Apple Store be near by? NO!

    #17: More of New York.

There were also props for Halloween like broken car, garbage which simulates a dead city because Halloween was coming.

#18: Ready for Sci-Fi City ahead!

I’ll show you Starship Galactica at Sci-Fi City ahead in the next post.

Char Koay Teow For Breakfast At Perak Road Market

Char Koay Teow For Breakfast At Perak Road Market

Char Koay Teow For Breakfast At Perak Road Market – After eating the famous Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee at Perak Road (Jalan Perak Pasar) Market, I realised there’s still space in the stomach, not feeling very full, and so I ordered a plate of Char Koay Teow to share with my friends.

It does looks pretty with a 3 shrimps in it, nicely fried with chilli sauce, and a few slices of Chinese sausage as well as beansprout. The experience with it was not the best, it’s not dry enough in my opinion as the “wok hei” 锅气, the heat / power of the frying wok was not strong enough.

After all, it does fill up my stomach well, not a bad char koay teow, just a SO-SO typical char koay teow to me, I want something drier, hotter, a little bit more spicy, more beansprout and it will be perfect.
