  • Last Thursday In Taylor’s University

    Last Thursday In Taylor’s University

Thursday is both nice and not-so-nice day because Thursday is near to weekend, so it’s nice, but on the other hand, it’s a tiring day as my class started early in the morning till late evening. And all the classes are in a continuous manner with just a little break in between for lunch.

I am getting myself to suit with the parking system at Taylor’s University. Ever since Taylor’s University started collect RM3 for the parking at the basement and the one nearer to the campus, I have to park my car at the so-called “Taylor’s Rocky Parking Area” which you can see in photo above. Every time I reached school, the whole parking area is almost full and I have to park until the end of the parking area, which is about 500-700m walking distance? It’s good to walk in the morning, but imagine rain and Sunny afternoon. Why don’t they just built a sheltered walkway for students. What a noob management of the school that is being inconsiderate.

First class of the day is the CAD (Computer Aided Design) class which I am learning about AutoCAD. I love functioning and playing with the computer, but so far, nothing much powerful have been learned. The lecturer is being slow at the moment. Hmm. I need some speed up to learn something more powerful. Catching up news and Facebook are something I would do during the CAD class, I believe everyone too. =D

Later then is the boring Moral Education class, which is a compulsory subject for the Malaysian students. What’s wrong with the Ministry Of Education? We have done 11 years of moral education, and now we are doing it again in college/university. One of our project for this Moral Education is to do a total 16 hours of community service. Sounds cool. Though, I have no idea where to service in Petaling Jaya / Klang Valley, any recommendation?

Sad that this class has not many people, that’s not so fun as I couldn’t meet some new friends from other courses. I wish I have module that mix with other courses, but too bad, there’s none for me. It’s not to the point of real university style yet. My course is just like high school, where my class is still the same, my class until graduate.

Lunch was really suck as I had no appetite that noon and nothing at the Recezz food court amaze me. Everything is just so-so, even the Curry Chicken Noodle that I once like went lousy already. Sigh. Things get bored when there’s no pork, seriously. It’s so halal. However, I have a recent like that are the I Love Yoo porridge and the Yong Tau Fu with rice in my campus. =D

Drop by the library for a while to print some stuff. The school still haven’t credit me the printing money for this semester! &%$#%*(## Damn, it’d been half a month since new semester started. I need my money to print!

Had my Design Studio class at a room called the Print Room. No idea what that means by it’s my first time attending class at such nice room with an awesome view of the lake. I believe the room belongs to the Graphic Design student. No idea why were we there.

Anna, Nita and Arowa. All foreigner, one from Belarus, one from Indonesia, one from Saudi Arabia.

The class was rather OK for that day as nothing much I have done for the hotel room design. First project of the semester is designing a Royal Thai Style VIP Suite. It’s pretty challenging for me as Thai style is very complicated and I am a minimalist, modernistic person. Haha.

Instax Mini 25! Brought it to school to shoot shoot. Though, nothing much to shoot. Haha.

Class ended a little bit earlier and so, me, Wesley and Jia Hui went to the lakeside for a seat to pass time and enjoy the breeze and view. Suddenly feel that the school was so relaxing and good, too bad this is Malaysia, and it is warm and humid. Lakeside relaxing is only fun when it’s near to evening and after a rain, or perhaps a cloudy day.

The weather was nice that day and it rain later when I attended another class called the Building Construction class. Later that night, I went to watch movie and tour the night market. What a tiring Thursday. Haha.

  • Muda House At Muda Lane, Penang

During the Georgetown Festival that happened last month,  I found a nice heritage shop houses call the Muda House, which the name derived from the street name – Muda Lane. It’s just somewhere near to the famous Kuan Yin Temple and it’s a good visit.

I was actually walking around town with Hueisean for fun in conjunction with the Georgetown Festival and accidentally found out this light blue painted colonial shop houses. With much curiosity, we went in to the Muda House check it out what it is all about. It’s actually like a mini museum, selling heritage stuff, souvenirs, coffee and antiques.

They are also a charity house which they collect funds to help stray dogs and animals. How kind are them?

You can find antiques stuff there too for your home decoration.

Check out their website for more information. A nice and relaxing place that should not be miss.

  • Just Bought A Fujifilm Instax Mini 25

Photography is a hobby of mine. I don’t plan to be a professional photographer, but taking photos is just something really fun to do in life as it captures the best moment of life. I wanted an instant camera for a long time as it’s a very fun camera and I can get my print right away. Unfortunate that Polaroid has discontinued releasing the Polaroid instant camera which was a really good cam.

Luckily Fujifilm still produce instant camera nowadays, with smaller print size. Recently, I bought myself a Fujifilm Instax Mini 25 camera from a lomography camera shop at Sunway here, the shop name is call Lokomotiv Checkpoint. I found the shop on Facebook and I was quite excited with the price of RM499 include 4 boxes of film.

I was wanting to buy from a seller at Kajang which is far and that seller is selling at RM415 + RM26/box of film, which are rather expensive. Since Lokomotiv Checkpoint is so near to my place, I went there to buy myself the camera and a total of 80 credit card size film.

What’s different between this Instax Mini 25 and the normal and most popular Instax 7S is that this is so much smaller, easy to carry around, auto mode becomes better and more intelligent and beautiful outlook. =D

The package include the camera itself, with 2 CR2 battery, close up lens for self-shoot and close up stuff, instruction manuals and straps.

I like it very much and have so far taken 8 shots which I will share with you guys.

  • August Workspace With Ikea Lightings

    August Workspace With Ikea Lightings

I love clean and organize workspace and bedroom but the clean won’t really last long as it will be back to a mess after a few days of usage. Though, I just enjoy cleaning it over and over again. Recently, I just bought some lighting from Ikea to decorate my room for a better atmosphere for all study, work, play and sleep.

To me, I feel that a room is the soul of a person and it’s represent a person personality. Being an interior design student, my room must be clean and organized, as well as well-decorated, which I don’t really get to decorate as this is just a rented room.

A good and beautiful room will boost productivity. It’s better hanging in the room at night than hanging out in the pubs, spending money. That’s my opinion for that.

Do you have/like a clean room?

  • #instagram I Am Back

Blogging on WordPress has caused me a few problems. It’s a good blogging platform when compare to the Blogspot Blogger engine, but I some times favor the Blogspot as it’s fast and easy to blog. I have been having problem with posting link and not auto-saving after updating my blog and finally I have found a solution.

Tomorrow is Friday and it’s no-school day. Gonna do assignment, and check out some good food at Sunway Pyramid and also write my blog! So stay tune and good night. It’s so late. I always try to tell myself to sleep early, but I fail, all the time. =D

By the way, do follow me on Instagram @nicholaschan. =) Have been addicted to this little application on the iPhone lately.

  • Back To School – Taylor’s University

    Kevin To the Vietnamese geek.

Hello people, I am feeling very TL right now because I have typed a very long post and WordPress didn’t auto-save it and now I have to retype again, but I am going into summary mode right now. Haha.

Steve and Wesley addicted to the new game, Fruit Processing,

So I am now back to school, back to college or university, whatever term that you want to name it. So far so good, assignment is compiling now, more and more. Stress, sleepless night, many thinking and work are coming to me. It will be tired, but I don’t mind, because that’s life right? How can life be interesting when there’s nothing to do.

    Nick the blogger, me.

Added more pool table and foosball table. All coin operated. WTH.

School has been good for the passed 2 weeks. I saw the Singaporean director Jack Neo who directed the movie “I Am Not Stupid” came to my campus to do some shooting for its sequel. So lame was that the film crew didn’t allow us to take any photo of the scene and process. How stupid it was.

Just spotted a few scene and didn’t bother to go check it out as there’s nothing much interesting, it only get interested when the film is out and I will see my school in it. =D

One thing I dislike about Taylor’s is now they started charging parking fee at RM3 per entry, though being a kiam siap (selfish) people, I park at the free zone far far away (as there’s still two free rocky zone) and I have to walk under the hot sun everyday. What a money face school. And one more is they also charge their shuttle bus service for commuting students to hostel and the other campus, really ridiculous.

So now is mid-Hungry Ghost Month, don’t go out so much, it’s the most scariest part of the month and I heard that people same year born as me, 1992 is advised to wear red clothing on Monday, 15 August which is to block all the bad luck. I am in, how about you? =D

  • A Saturday Out With Penang Friends

Last Saturday was a fun and happenings day for me in Klang Valley. It felt really good to meet up a few friends who was from hometown Penang too and also from the same high school. We went for dinner, bubble tea and chit chat a lot that night, and too went to play LAN game together. =D

Saturday was 2 days after Arron’s birthday and he wanted to treat us Chinese food as a celebration for his recent birthday. Happy belated birthday my friend. We went to fetch Chen Yuen (a.k.a. Nicholas David Raykee Aw) from the LRT station as he stayed pretty far from us, and the to fetch Tee Jin and Hsieh Zhen. It was only 5 of us that night, but it was awesome.

While waiting for Chen Yuen who came all the way from Setapak, Arron and I saw some silly stuff happened at the car park of the LRT station. The Toyota Innova tried to reverse parking, but in the end drove over the divider and stuck there. LOL.

After fetching everyone, we had dinner at a famous Chinese restaurant called Loong Fong at Paramount Garden there. GPS was our guide to the restaurant as we are a group of alien in this city. Though, it was not really hard to find afterall.

    Untitled

The dinnerwas a wonderful dinner and later we went to look for Gong Cha bubble tea at SS15. Although it’s same price as Chatime, I like Gong Cha more. We chit-chat all along and take photos. It was a nice day out and is looking forward for more outing. =D Lots of place to explore in Klang Valley, any recommendation? I want to go to KL Bird Park, National Zoo, KLCC skybridge, Broga Hill, Ampang LookOut Point, where else I can go? =)

A little jokes on us is that we call this gang, the animal gang as we always do all those jiao jiao (bird bird) stuff, which is just means lame stuff. Hahaha.

  • Hueisean At Masjid Kapitan Keling

I never know that we can visit the famous Masjid Kapitan Keling (Kapitan Keling Mosque) on Pitt Street just until recently I saw photos taken from that mosque, only then I know it’s actually open to everyone. Visit it not because of being religious, it’s just because of curious and want to check out the historical building and culture of it.

This is very famous mosque in Penang and is located in the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town. I knew this mosque for quite some times as when I was a kid, I always played at the five foot path outside the mosque. My grandparents once lived near to the mosque.

I went there on one fine afternoon with my dear, Hueisean and she was the model for my camera that day. Haha. The day was rather sunny and cloudy, it’s just something in between where the big red Sun comes out in a while and hide behind the moon sometimes.

The mosque is built by the Indian Muslim in the 19th century and there’s locate the very famous Nasi Beratur (Queuing Rice) that operates after 10pm. Nasi Beratur is a Malay dishes stall that have people queuing up anxiously for their food every night. It had been there for more than 10 years and people are still queuing patiently for it everynight.

We didn’t really knew the Muslim culture well as girls actually need to wear something to cover up the whole body to go in. She has a sleeveless shirt and luckily she brought a jacket. I was all set with jeans and polo-tee. It’s a respect to the religion and culture.

In conjunction with the recent George Town Festival month, they have set up a huge poster of old-Penang in their compound, decorated with a little bit of sands and box of crates, which give a sense of back-to-the-days. It allows people to bring their mind back to the olden days and imagine about how Penang was like back then.

Actually, there’s nothing much to tour about inside, it’s just a short walk along the corridor and we are not allow to step into the hall. Shoes are of course not allow. Nevertheless, it’s a nice place to visit and good to learn about others culture.

  • Noon At Kek Lok Si Temple

Noon At Kek Lok Si Temple

One find noon in Penang, mom and I went to Kek Lok Si temple to do something, I followed along to snap some photos as I haven’t been there in bright daylight before. It seems fun, but it was a short trip up there. Kek Lok Si temple is one of the most famous and gorgeous temple in South East Asia and it’s a good place for photoshooting.

It was a bright and sunny day, yet there’s a little windy breeze blow as the Kek Lok Si temple is located a little bit high from ground level. I saw quite many foreign and local tourist checking out the place and take photos.

Ever since Penang has got the UNESCO World Heritage City status, more and more tourist are flocking into this little so-called “Pearl Of The Orient” for its lovely heritage town and of course the famous food.

Kek Lok Si Temple is one of the place that you must not miss when you are visiting Penang. Doesn’t matter if you are Muslim, Christian or other races, it’s good to check out the architecture, culture and art of this temple.

Kek Lok Si Temple is not a small temple, it’s huge and have several sections for you to visit and explore. As for me, I only went to the main hall and didn’t went UP to other area as it takes like an hour and more if you are an avid photographer. We were there to do some stuff at the main hall.

Nevertheless, it’s still nice to move around at the main hall area to take some shots. Parking is RM2 at the entrance of Kek Lok Si which is rather cheap as you can park as long as you want.

One thing I dislike while checking around the place is I saw this zinc roof with shape into Chinese-style roof. It makes the place so cheap-looking and lousy. Instead I think they should just replaced with it better ceramic roof which resembles a real Chinese temple architecture. =)

  • A Day Out With Yashica 635 Twin Lens Reflex Camera

A Day Out With Yashica 635 Twin Lens Reflex Camera

Do you know what is Twin Lens Reflex camera, the TLR? It’s an old vintage camera which has two lens and your viewfinder is on top of the camera and people look down into the camera to take a shot.

My uncle borrowed me an very old camera, the Yashica 635 dual format TLR camera to play out. He kept it for super many years, it still looking good and in a very good condition for taking photograph. The dual format means that it can support both 120mm film and the 35mm film that we normally use.

120mm is not really my favourite as it’s not easy to find and the processing and developing of it is costly. Luckily there’s an adapter which allow the camera to use 35mm format film, though this turn the camera into portrait mode.

With much excitement about this ancient camera, brother and I went to buy a Fujifilm Superia 35mm film for RM12 to try it out. Spent about half an hour to figure out how to put in the film as there’s no manual for it and finally we’ve successfully have the film fixed in the camera.

Everything is in manual, focusing, shutter speed and aperture. It has a wide aperture of f3.5 and fastest shutter speed of 1/500. We have to wind every exposure film ourselves manually as there’s no battery and automated part.

After fixing the film, we quickly go to Straits Quay to try out the camera since the day was still bright. As you know, film camera without a flash and slow ISO film is always not advisable to shoot during low light situation.

Focusing is easy with a magnifying glass on the viewfinder. However, setting up the best setting for shooting is not easy and we have to refer to the setting of DSLR like shutter speed and aperture. Haha. We are not pro to estimate it yet, I really salute the user of this camera back then. There must be a standard for it but I don’t know yet.

We wanted to shoot all 36 exposure of the film but failed because the winding problem of the camera and we wind all till the end and we shot about 16 shots.

Thought of going to the camera shop to developed the film right after it but couldn’t find any photo shop that is still open on a Sunday evening. Haha. And not much of them are developing and printing film, that’s a sad thing. Then we went to develop the next day, scanned into digital format and turn out to be good and love the bokeh and the photos taken by me. Haha, so proud of myself. XD Some shots were taken by my brother too.

Seems like film camera is kinda fun, especially old old one. =D

One more thing, it’s not easy to frame the photo as it’s inverted in the viewfinder and superhard to take landscape.
