  • Cheras Taman Connaught Pasar Malam on Wedesday Night

Cheras Taman Connaught Pasar Malam on Wedesday Night

Pasar malam is night market. I am a pasar malam fan because when I was in Penang, I often go to the pasar malam to look for cheap street food and just walk around for fun among the crowds. It’s nice. After coming to Kuala Lumpur, I haven’t really get to know all the night market. So far, I have been to one at SS2 on Monday and this is another one on Wednesday, the Cheras Taman Connaught pasar malam.

According to my KL friend, this pasar malam is the longest in KL and is about 1.5km long. Wow. This is what it attracts me and I thought there would be selling lots of stuff. Unfortunately, from Sunway to Cheras is like 20 minutes drive away, it’s kinda far.

So on a fine Wednesday night, I decided to make a visit to the night market, navigate through a GPS and a half-local KL people. Haha. Zhi Sheng was the half-local KL people who actually brought me to the wrong road, and turned out I still have to look for Google Maps because Taman Connaught pasar malam POI is not in the GPS list. In the end, we found our way, just navigate to Giant Taman Connaught or UCSI then you can find the pasar malam already.

I was pretty excited when I see the stalls and people flowing here and there. Road was jam and looking for parking was kinda difficult. Try to park at UCSI there and walk to the pasar malam, there’s plenty of parking at UCSI.

We started our journey through the long pasar malam. I was with my classmate Zhi Sheng and my housemate Wei Ding. My classmate girls were there too, just that we went there by two cars. Funny thing was they went out earlier from uni than us but then we arrived earlier. They were lost too.

What’s so fun about pasar malam is that you can buy cheap cheap street food like fish balls, satay and stuff then can eat and shop at the same time. This is really fun. But then keep buying little street food is rather expensive when you total them up. I didn’t care because I don’t always get to go to pasar malam. Surprise to see that the food there are so much different from the pasar malam in Penang.

They love fermented beancurd or simply known as smelly toufu here which something that couldn’t find in Penang. Really smelly.

Tako balls! Not so awesome though.

You can actually see a lot of college students at there because the pasar malam is just beside UCSI university. The place makes me feel lively and a bit like home, just different is that the people here speaks Cantonese instead of Hokkien at home.

We walk walk walk. One different thing again is that they do sell pirated DVD and books at pasar malam which you will not see in the pasar malam in Penang island. In the island only, all the pasar malam don’t sell pirated DVD, which is pretty cool. Haha.

Famous Alisan Taiwanese Chicken Chop, Penang also have.

    This is wonderful.

So have you been wondering what stalls do they have on this very long 1.5km pasar malam? Well, to be honest, most of the stalls are repeating. You will see the same logo, same price, same food every few hundred meters. Really funny. They are just selling the same thing but doubling or trippling their own stall only to make the pasar malam long. Very clever indeed.

Lok lok here is damn expensive man.

Then surprisingly, in the middle of the pasar malam, I met up with the girls, they were coming from the other side and we were walking on the opposite direction. Cool.

I didn’t really eat a proper meal. My dinner was keep buying fish ball, sausage, satay to eat. All the little little food.

The weather was that nice that night. It rained, but we were hot and sweating and thanks to the light rain, cooled us up. However, the rain get bigger later. Haha.

Rain big big and we went home. The pasar malam is real long and hopefully got chance go again but not anytime soon cause go there is money wasting, far and eat a lot. Haha.

  • I Bought A New Camera, Panasonic Lumix LX5 from Digital Mall

I Bought A New Camera, Panasonic Lumix LX5 from Digital Mall

Hohoho people. I am back to the blogging scene, hopefully. Really very sorry, I guess you guys don’t want to hear about my lame excuses again. It’s just I am lazy and lazy to upload photo. XD One word, lazy. I apologize sincerely and I try to catch up with you guys when the real Internet access is available at my area as they are still installing at the moment.

So I want to share with you guys that I have bought a new camera, a compact point and shoot that I have craving for so long, it was the Panasonic LX3 but now it’s the Panasonic LX5 which came out like a month ago. Drools. Likes. Although it doesn’t really fit into jeans pocket but yet, it’s still a compact camera which does manual mode and as an alternative for my DSLR.

Have been using for DSLR for 3 years, taking that baby out for everyday and finally thought of lighten myself instead of a heavy gear. While this serve as a transition gear until I get a new DSLR, somewhere next year.

I checked out the Internet and seems like price everywhere is the same. I bought for RM1599 at PJ Digital Mall, First Floor Canon Stall. Good price IMO. Found the place from a forum. First time going there and shockingly looking the exterior a little bit ugly building but inside is just anoter Low Yat Plaza, filled with electronic, gadget and computer hardware, just that it’s smaller.

I went out that day with Victor, my school mate, Leo Club friend, also was my senior in Chung Ling High School. After buying that white sexy, I drove home.

GPS on my Nexus One, quite fast, quite precise but the POI not so updated, and no sexy “Turn right into Jalan Blabla”, but still rocks.

It was raining again here in Kuala Lumpur, my hand was itchy and can’t wait to touch my new sexy and I took it out for a road shoot. Shoot here and there to cure my itchyness. It’s a wonderful compact camera. I love it. No regret buying it.

So many people queuing for iPhone 4. OMG. Sigh.

Went to Sunway Pyramid to buy some groceries and tid bits. It’s nearest to my place so I went there. =)

This is not a rat, it’s a Guinea Pig, like what you see in G Force the movie.

    Han Tek, from Penang.

Han Hui, also from Penang. No, they are not siblings.

Went to dinner right after going to Sunway Pyramid as I was too hungry then I called my 2 housemates along. =)

LX5 Rocks! Sometimes also can’t differentiate which is taken from a DSLR which is taken from a LX5. Haha. Yo! Have a nice day. Writing blog so early is pretty fun.

  • The Gardens and Domo-kun and Ugly Dolls

The Gardens and Domo-kun and Ugly Dolls

Some random sharing to spice up my blog a bit after a long pause. I went to The Gardens, Mid Valley during Merdeka holiday. KTV, shopping and walkaround. =D

    Ugly Dolls. Really very ugly.

    Super big Domo-kun. Kawaii!

    Do you like The Gardens?

  • Walk Walk At Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya

Walk Walk At Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya

After coming to Petaling Jaya/Kuala Lumpur here, I didn’t really have time to move around the city or around where I live to check out the places. I have been like not at here for the past weekends and it’s pretty hard to move around without a car. KTM and LRT station is far, the problem is going there. I haven’t tried taking the public bus, Rapid KL yet, wonder is it the same like my Penang’s Rapid Penang or not. I like to take the public bus in Penang because the bus stand was just right in front of my house and the buses come like very frequently, I am not sure about here.

So last week, after class, my lovely housemate, Ju Siong from Ipoh drove us around to buy stuff. We wanted to go to Sunway Pyramid and to the laundry but without any reason, we went to Empire Shopping Gallery which is somewhere new to walk and check it out.

The shopping mall is pretty new and there’s still many shop haven’t open yet. Located near to Subang Parade and I don’t know want how to describe the location, it’s small but it’s cool. There’s many nice shops selling not very low price stuffs. Although I hardly afford stuffs at there but I feel like walking at there because of the new-ness and not very crowded. I like malls that are not super crowded like Mid Valley Megamall or Sunway Pyramid in the weekend. It’s an ocean of people during weekend at there. Big city, WOW.

Went to check out the toilet of course. Haha. A good toilet is not all about the design, it’s about the cleaniness and the available of tissue at the WC area. =D LOL. Do you realise that Malaysian’s toilet doesn’t like to give people tissue paper? Sucks right.

I found Material, a Muji-copycat at there too. This store is so much smaller compare to the one in Queenbay Mall, Penang though.

Walked around the whole mall, nothing much to see, no cinema and we went into pet shop to see dogs. Haha. I realised that in Penang, there’s no pet shop in the shopping mall but they do have here. Cool. Can see dogs and puppys, but no pet snake.

After seeing dogs, taking photos of the cute little dog, we waited Han Tek, housemate from Penang, to do his haircut at those RM13 quickcut shop and I want to tell you something, the quickcut was so not quick. Luckily I had my haircut in Penang. Woo.

Small mall but cool place. Hopefully there’s a cinema!

  • Walkaround Kuala Lumpur Before College Started

Walkaround Kuala Lumpur Before College Started

Hello people, I am taking Diploma In Interior Design at Taylor’s University College, Lakeside Campus. Orientation is this week and class will officially starts on next Monday. I came last Friday to check in to my hostel which is pretty cool place located right in the campus. Small room but quite comfy. Will show you about it next time. I’ll talk about what I did here on last weekend which I spent it here with my family.

We spent 3 days going here and there and I went quite a lot of places. I’ll name some of the places I went, Pavilion, Lot 10, Sungei Wang, Low Yat Plaza, Corus Hotel, Carrefour Subang Jaya, Sunway Pyramid, Taylor’s University College, Jalan Alor, Mid Valley City, and basically that’s all the places I went. Haha.

    Road to Taylor’s University College.

Dad drove us down. We started our journey at about 10am in Penang and reached like at 3pm. First place to go was my school, Taylor’s University College to do the check-in stuff and move all my electronics, gadgets and stuff into my hostel room. Only then I went to buy some personal stuff at Carrefour, Subang Jaya.

Waited quite long at the school and actually I was not allow to check in on that day because Friday was for International Student only. But then what’s the problem for local student? I called and asked and the person told me I could check in on that day and no saying on anything related to International Student, anyhow, I manage to convince the person to let me check in. I can’t leave there without checking in because I just have too many stuff in the car boot.

After settle everything at Subang area, we went to check in our hotel at Corus Hotel, Jalan Ampang. An incident happened and that was our booking made online was canceled because we came to check in late. Internet price was not entitled and we have to paid for walk-in price, worst is that our booking made surcharged us for one night room charge as if we canceled our booking because late check-in. Not yet finish rambling, we were given a room on the smoking floor. Sucks. Bad luck har?

Still continue, during our stay in the midnight, the aircon broke down for like 2 hours, the heat woke us up in the middle of the night and we had to call the hotel man to come and repair it. He screw and unscrew some stuff only then it started working again. Bad staying experience and after some complain made at the reception during check out, we get refund and extra free night for other time. Rocks. Haha.

Going back to what happened after checkin into hotel, we went to fetch my brother at Times Square and then went for supper. The KL City is really a place that’s very happening at night. Traffic jam happened in the middle of the night like at 1am. Looking for parking around Jalan Alor was pretty difficult. We did find a space though. Why Jalan Alor? It’s because we didn’t know other place that has food at midnight. Any idea or recommendation?

Another thing is that the arrival of my brother in Kuala Lumpur was also the arrival of my mighty Apple iPad. He bought it on the launch date which is that afternoon, and delivered to Kuala Lumpur to my hands. =D

    Red Lens!

    Branded camera bag!

Brother also brought his camera gear and right now he’s pretty a photog freak and he has a better gear than me!

Since we had an unpleasant stay, second day, check out! And move to other hotel. KL hotel is getting more and more expensive. Good hotel all starts from at least RM275. Hard to find cheaper than that already.

It’s still early after checkout of hotel and we went to Pavilion at Bukit Bintang for shopping. It’s a better place to shop when compare to KLCC, more spacious, more shops, colder AC, cleaner, and newer. Haha. But stuff at there are expensive. I bought something at there though. XD

I was walking around with brother. Dad was with mom. We were separated into our own groups. We more like to look at gadget and was looking for case for iPad. Went to all the Apple shop around this area and eventually, we went to Lot 10, Sungei Wang and Lowyat Plaza but found nothing. Went back to Epicenter at Pavilion to buy the iPad case. Not cheap!

You know what. Epicentre is also where my iPad was from, not Kuala Lumpur’s outlet but was the outlet in ION@Orchard. Rocks.

After Pavilion, we then went to checkin to another hotel at Mid Valley, Boulevard and that’s a better one, but the price was not nice. Haha. RM3hundred something. I’ve forgotten. Didn’t take much photo at Mid Valley and I bought nothing there. No idea why I have no shopping feel or I am broke. =( Mom bought those comforter and bed stuff for me at there.

One thing, Mid Valley is crazy on the weekend. Jam at the carpark, round the mall and people jam in the mall! Super duper crowded and feel not nice to walk. Gurney Plaza in Penang is better? Hahaha. Bye bye.

By the way, I am blogging from the Mac room in my school’s library. There’s like 25 27″ iMac in this room and they rocks! Internet speed is freaking fast too, just sad that cannot PPS or P2P.

  • Last Wednesday at Farlim Pasar Malam

Last Wednesday at Farlim Pasar Malam

It’s my first pasar malam visit after I came back from my NS camp, it had been quite a while that I didn’t go to pasar malam already and I kinda miss the days. Mom says pasar malam is for girls and I don’t agree, I like to walk around at happenings and crowded place and look for cheap street food, eat while window shopping, and people observing, it’s fun! =D

    IMG_0596 by nicholaschan.

It was Wednesday and I was with all boys, Wei Chung, Yong Chieh, Arron, Chien Chern and Chin Tatt. We ate at Kutabali Hawker Center then we drove Farlim’s pasar malam (a.k.a. night market) which is just nearby.

    IMG_0581 by nicholaschan.

It’s quite a crowded night at the pasar malam, people was everywhere, young and old.

    IMG_0584 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0582 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0583 by nicholaschan.

I found out that I’ve nothing to buy, it’s just walking here and there around the market, looking around, mostly windows shopping. If you do realized, stuff there are kinda repetitive, you will see the stores selling the same thing but different man standing. Wei Chung saw the UV writing board and thought it was cool, but for me, I think it’s just normal only, and it’s all Chinese product. I prefer the  board to be plain and simple, and with a better framing perhaps.

Pasar malam sells a lot of t-shirts and lala stuff. I don’t know want how to explain the word “lala”, it refers to teen boy and girl who dress up very lala, HAHA, in other words, is that they (lala) dress up a bit too over with a mixture of Japanese and Taiwan fashion, with high stocking, blink blink dress and so on.

    IMG_0606 by nicholaschan.

Buying clothing at pasar malam is cheap, though you don’t get a fitting room. It’s either put the clothes on top of what you are wearing and fit it, or you buy it home and find it not fit, you can take back to exchange. That’s the interesting part. ^.^ The price is low too, when compare to same stuff at place like Prangin Mall in Penang or Sungai Wang in Kuala Lumpur, probably because there’s no rental here.

Stuff here are normal and cheap stuff, didn’t see pro stuff yet. I wanted to look for some AV cable (Toslink) and protective for my Nexus One but I found nothing.

    IMG_0787 by nicholaschan.

Went to Popular at Prangin Mall two days ago with Yiphing just to buy a black hardboard and it was so damn crowded because they were having a moving out sale. Books were very cheap and discount up to 90%. Though, I was not so interested into books lately, I still have books at home that I haven’t finish reading.

    IMG_0786 by nicholaschan.

The Popular in Prangin Mall is moving out and a new outlet is opening at KOMTAR, just another mall across the street. No idea what this place gonna be when it’s out.

    2010-05-22 15.54.59 by nicholaschan.

We queued up for like 20 minutes at the counter for just RM3.90. LOL. that sucks. I should have went to the other store at somewhere else.

  • Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Yes, you read me. My camera, Canon 400D went dead on the first night in Hat Yai and which made me feel sad and I couldn’t shoot for the second day.

Oh my god. Luckily, I at least got photos on the first day so I could write it up here. To me, traveling without a camera is not call traveling already, I can’t live without a camera when traveling, I want to capture every moment of it because I don’t know whether I will be going there again or not.

Cut the crap and here comes the photos!

    IMG_3848 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3850 by nicholaschan.

During the evening, I went to meet up a relatives who live in Hat Yai. We call him Wen Shok, I don’t know how to relate him to me, I only know he is close to my grandma. He brought us to see his new home in Hat Yai. It’s a 3 storey shop house.

    IMG_3846 by nicholaschan.

And at there, I also met his very cute grandson, who can listens to Mandarin more than Thai. Cool right? I didn’t get his name though. Not really interested in new home and my phone GPS had some problem locating my location and I was bored at time. No choice, have to follow my parents.

    IMG_3853 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3855 by nicholaschan.

Then we were brought to a very cool Thai restaurant near the university area. They have a very nice garden and the interior has a cottage-liked look. Like.

    IMG_3859 by nicholaschan.
    Gas station. Woo!

    IMG_3861 by nicholaschan.

After dinner, we went back to our hotel area. Stalls were all set up by the road side and it’s a shopping street again and, Thai-style night street shopping, it’s just the same at every where in Thailand, Phuket, Bangkok. So, it’s nothing special to me already.

    IMG_3863 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3865 by nicholaschan.

Quite many people went shopping too. I heard from the talking, most speaks Mandarin and Hokkien, so I assumed they were tourists who were from somewhere near my place. =D Another interesting thing is that the Thai at there speaks Mandarin too! We don’t need to speak English or point this and that anymore. Though, I don’t really like this because I like pointing this and that, it’s more challenging. Hehe.

    IMG_3873 by nicholaschan.

Most stuff by the street were clothes and shoes. Nothing much already.

There’s 3 of us, me, dad and mom and the only person who was really shopping was mom only. Me and dad, two were just like bodyguard, following here and there.

    IMG_3901 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3897 by nicholaschan.

The not-boring part was the foot and neck massage. Really relaxing and it’s one hour at there. The person do my foot, then a little bit of my hand and my neck too! Now I know why dad so like Thai massage.

    IMG_3905 by nicholaschan.

After a massage would be some supper. It’s 11pm and 12am Malaysian time already, no wonder I felt sleepy a little bit at that moment.

Was planning to go to a live band bistro after supper but sadly, the bistro was full and we were not allow to go in, so in the end went back to hotel and at the same time, my camera went dead. Shit man!

Day Out At Gurney Plaza with Alvin Ng, Chien Chern and Arron Lim

Now is holiday to me, always go here and go there, I don’t feel boring because I still got a lot of thing to and want to do. Going out with friends is just part of it, I don’t want to waste so many money out also.

“Burn” money is fun as they said, but I don’t have that much money to burn, lots of gadget, camera lens, clothing are in my wishlist and shopping list, so I have a lot of saving to do. Do support my sponsors on the sidebar too. =) I didn’t look for part time job also, but then keep hoping that I can earn more from my blogging job. Anyway, still got to thank all of you for supporting my blog everyday.

    IMG_4008 by nicholaschan.

One day, I forgotten when, I went out to Gurney Plaza with the usual friends, Arron Lim, Alvin Ng and Chien Chern. THey are my buddies, so don’t be surprise to always see them appear here in my blog. Most people have already go to college or are working, so I only left this few friends that keep “burning” money everyday, doing nothing, “sang” here and there.

The lighting is good and camera is allowed, not like other shop that don’t allow people to take photos. Very uncomfortable with that kind of shop.
