  • Char Koay Teow Basah (Wet) @ Sungai Rambai, Bukit Mertajam

Char Koay Teow Basah (Wet) @ Sungai Rambai, Bukit Mertajam

Char Koay Teow Basah (Wet) @ Sungai Rambai, Bukit Mertajam – When we talk about Char Koay Teow, the place “Penang” came into mind, and then it came the huge shrimps, and the dry flat noodles with beansprout, a little bit of hot chilli paste, cockles the the flat noodle pan fried with special soy sauce – Penang’s Char Koay Teow.

Have you ever wonder what it is when Char Koay Teow is fried by our local Malay friend? It turned from dry to to wet. Malay-style of Char Koay Teow is basically has a special salty and sweet wet sauce which pour onto the flat noodle and is believe that it’s from the little town of Bukit Mertajam.

With the absence of pork lard, it still however brings another type of surprise to you. It’s a whole new experience of Char Koay Teow.

On one of the road connecting into Bukit Mertajam town – Jalan Sungai Rambai, lies a Malay-style Char Koay Teow that provides delicious dinner and supper for the locals. It’s located in front of a furniture shop and you can easily spot the place when you see the AIA building, where the stall is just right opposite of it.

At RM3.00 per plate, you will see a bowl of waterish wet dark brown sauce which half flooded the flat white noodle. Beansprout, cockles and small shrimps are accompanied with the little dish. The sauce is special as it’s cook with egg and tasted salty, and a little bit of sweetness.

Ask for “udang kopek” which actually means for removing the shell of the shrimp when ordering to ease your eating experience. The little Penang’s street food by our local Malay friend is special, nice, yet I found the portion is rather small. It went in my stomach in just a short period of time.

Nevertheless, it’s something that should be try. I’ve read that at Alma, Bukit Mertajam has another stall that sells this kind of Char Koay Teow and I would like to try it one day.

  • Look Out Point, Ampang

    Look Out Point, Ampang

    Look Out Point, Ampang
#1: Someone celebrating birthday at there. Cool.

Look Out Point, Ampang – Have you ever wonder where to get a good and magnificent view of the big capital of Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur? It would be Look Out Point at Ampang. It’s not very far from town, on a little hill and at there you can get a wide perspective of the whole city and it’s really a nice place to chill.

What you will be seeing is not anything like the cityscape of Hong Kong or Singapore because the place is kinda far from the city centre and so, the cityscape became tiny and far.

#2: Welcome to Kuala Lumpur. The night view of Kuala Lumpur.

    #3: Me and you, Hueisean.

    #4: Hueisean the pretty girl.

Look Out Point is only accessible by road and at there has a various restaurant serving western and local cuisine. I have visited Haven Restaurant with dearest, Hueisean on a Saturday night but the food wasn’t that awesome. What’s great was the atmosphere and the awesome view.

    #5: Nick Chan!

Driving there take a bit challenge at first as it doesn’t show up in my GPS device, but if you follow Google Maps, you can arrive there easily and the road accessing Look Out Point has no lamp, so it’s just lights from the vehicles on the road. =D Parking is rather cheap at RM2 per entry and you can opt for valet parking at the top for an extra RM3 but you probably difficult to get one as the parking always get full on top. We park our car down there and walk up the stairs, tiring a bit, yet fun with a little breezy wind.

#6: Stairs going down to the carpark.

#7: Look Out Point Western Food.

Eat, talk, chill, take photos and I like it. =D

  • A Week In Taylor’s University #2

#1: Friends who were in the filming of Ah Niu’s latest movie.

A Week In Taylor’s University #2 – It’s another week in Taylor’s. The week was packed, wet, saw some cool stuff in school, but afterall, it’s just another week in Taylor’s. Monday was pretty surprised for us as we came across with another film shooting in our campus featuring the local director/actor/singer – Ah Niu. It’s Ah Niu’s latest film and I’ve no idea what it is, and he came to shoot the scene here.

#2: Spotted Ah Niu in white tee sitting.

#3: This is what the filming crew eat for lunch.

#4: Part of the filming. Security guard shooting. For your technical information, they actually used the RED brand camera to shoot the film.

A few friends actually join the temporary actor but the bad news is that they only received RM11 for buying food for two days. No pay. So lousy. Luckily I did not join them. I thought they were gonna get paid like maybe RM50? =D

#5: Ah Niu in weird hair.

    #6: Another scene.

#7: Ah Niu in white shirt.

We were actually having lunch then my friend told me to look across the lake, only then I see they were doing the shooting. We wanted to go check it out but was in a rush to class. What’s great and lucky was, our classroom was just right above the film shooting scene where we could see some live action down there. Ah Niu was dressing very weird. I wonder what the movie will like when it’s on the screen. =D

    #8: Busy with work.

#9: Lots of discussion going on.

#10: Our in house magician, Zhi Sheng from 6 Of Spade.

The days went on with the mind thinking about assignment due dates. We’ve got lots of assignment due dates coming soon, just din one last week and more to come. Weekend will not be like a holiday anymore. Weekends are busy right now.

    #11: Overnight in school.

#12: Rain, I wore shorts which result in a wet feet.

    #13: Super heavy rain.

#14: Raindrops falling of the sky,

    #15: Rain.

The weather have been kinda crazy right now, sometimes very hot, sometimes very cold. It rained a lot lately, it’s not just drizzling off the sky, it’s huge, it’s loud, accompany by the roaring thunder.

#16: Setting up stage for the Share The Love concert.

#17: Spent some time at the Study Room.

    #18: Working at night.

    #19: Entertainment during work.

#20: Testing all the technical stuff for the concert.

    #21: Photography during midnight.

Spent a few nights in the campus, saw a mini concert in the campus, worked on assignments, and that’s my week in Taylor’s University.

  • Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang

#1: On the way to Ampang, and saw the city of Kuala Lumpur from the car. The skyline looks quite nice at night.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang – Two weeks ago, I went to Ampang with my friends from Penang – Arron and Tee Jin to go check out the Nine Emperor Gods Festival here in Kuala Lumpur and also to pray. In Penang, it’s a very happenings festival which attracts lots of tourist and devotees to join the procession and praying and I would like to see how the festival is celebrated here.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#2: Looks like pasar malam and the temple is ahead.

The location of the temple is at Ampang and it’s the place I know that’s famous for this Nine Emperor Gods Festival in Kuala Lumpur. GPS was our guide to the location it took about half an hour from Kelana Jaya to there. Traffic was pretty smooth that night. Everything went smooth.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#3: Burning ground for burning gold paper for the god.

The temple is located in a Chinese village, and it’s kinda cool that there’s still village located so close to city.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#4: The stall says that he know your surname and your luck, sort of like fortune teller, but after checking out how he did it, it’s actually works like a formula. He shows people a series of card with a number of Chinese’ surname in it, you will be asked with question of whether your surname is in the card or not. After a few times of asking, he will then tell you your surname. Then he will pass you a paper writing your fortune. HAHAHA. RM10 for per “game”.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#5: A Toaist sifu giving a sort of like a talk show, telling people to see some number and stuff, but after 5 minutes of seeing him, I have no idea what he was trying to sell.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#6: Arron on the left. It’s like night market in there, just like a carnival, instead of a festival like in Penang.

Well, upon arriving, I got to say, it looked totally different from the festival in Penang. There’s many people, it’s very happening at there, people kept flocking in, there’s people praying in the temple, but what’s difference is it’s like a night market, there’s many stall selling stuff like DVDs, cloth, street food (vegetarian), toys, collectibles and more! It’s more like a carnival to me.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #7: Selling vegetarian street food.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#8: Mini auction selling collectible, all started from RM5. It’s an eye opening day because I never see this kind of auction before and the seller claim that their collectible worth few hundred bucks which I don’t really believe, I think it’s just another “MIC (Made In China)” stuff.

The night market thingy had been there for nine days and it was the last day. In Penang, you will only see yellow banner vegetarian food stalls for nine days and all the Nine Emperor Gods Temple lighted up for nine days, but you won’t find carnival stalls like this at there.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#9: Another auction stall at there. This one started at RM2 with smaller item and I think there’s people of them hiding themselves among the public to try to raise the price. We did try to raise our hand for fun with the maximum bid of RM10 for 3 of us. And we actually bought ourselves a mini Fu Lu Shou. HAHA.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#10: There’s cute cartoon balloons too!

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#11: Penang’s Muar Chee. It’s good to see the word “Penang” at there which makes me think about home.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#12: You can even find bubble tea there too!

We traveled through the seas of people to check out what’s there. Quite many street food in vegetarian style, there’s toys, there’s pirated DVD, there’s fortune teller, there’s clothing, there’s Chinese opera, and there’s lots of people.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#13: There’s a performing stage for Chinese Opera.

#14: The three Penangites – Tee Jin, Me and Arron wandering around the temple in Ampang, Selangor.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#15: Somewhere within the temple. Two beautiful pagodas can be seen here. Lighted up too.

After checking out the “pasar malam”, we went to the temple area to pray. We was actually waiting for procession but I wondered where could the procession goes. Normally, at this time of time, about 10pm, in Penang, there would be a procession of sending the Nine Emperor Gods back to the sea, but at this place, Ampang, sea is so far away.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#16: It’s quite warm at here because of the burning, but luckily it rained before we came so the temperature around wasn’t that warm at there.

So we asked the people around and found out that there’s no sending the god back to the sea, but there’s actually sending the god back, at about midnight 3am, which we didn’t really get to see.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #17: One of the pagoda.

#18: Ceiling in the temple. Filled with beautiful Chinese ornaments and decoration. It reflects the grandness of the god with the blend of golden and red colour.

#19: In the temple, it’s very crowded and smoky with all the smoke of the joss stick filling the air. It’s quite irritating for eyes.

We bought the set of joss stick and candles and we prayed. It was really crowded, the smoke was really very heavy, it’s not easy to walk around the temple, it’s best to wear a goggles around.

#20: The sifus working out at the altar area.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#21: Lighting up the joss stick for praying and serving to the Nine Emperor Gods.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #22: The luck paper.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #23: Praying.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
#24: More people lighting up the joss sticks.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #25: More praying.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival At Ampang
    #26: More praying.

#27: Photo at the road sign before we went home.

After praying, we went back. I’ve got to say, the festival of Nine Emperor Gods in Ampang and Penang are totally two different thing. At Ampang, you stuck on one place, you only buy and pray, whereas in Penang, you follow the procession, you snap photograph, you see the Chinese-style Thaipusam and you walk. You should check out my post on the Penang’s one and you will see the difference. Weeeeee.

  • Share The Love Concert At Taylor’s University

#1: Nice Taylor’s University at night.

Share The Love Concert At Taylor’s University – I went to school last Saturday night to camp in school to do assignment. I wore simple clothing, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, with slippers on, feeling free and easy and arrived in school happily. Then I heard loud voices of people singing, and the school’s lights were turn on brightly. There’s a concert going on in the campus – Share The Love.

#2: The Julie’s balloon. Julie’s is a brand of biscuit.

I almost forgot about it until I reached school that Saturday night. Share The Love is actually a charity concert which promotes friendship and solidarity through music. The concert is actually a singing contest which the winner wins RM5000 cash prize for themselves as well as another RM5000 which to be donated to the Taylor’s World Food Day on behalf of them. Cool right?

    #3: The bunting.

    #4

The crowds were not really big, about 200 or more people can be see, sitting on the checkered floor, some lying and enjoying the concert. It was quite relaxing and nice to see a concert stage was set up in the school.

#5: The stage and people on the floor.

I imagined what if some other famous artist has their mini concert here, it will be really very awesome, given a good view of the campus. I would like to see Taiwan’s artist here, but I don’t think it’s possible because it’s an English speaking school. HAHA.

#6: From the side of the stage.

    #7: The people.

Share The Love Concert At Taylor's University
#9: The host is talking on the ramp.

Share The Love. I spend less than 30 minutes then and off I went to do assignment with my group mates. I didn’t really enjoy those Indie band because I don’t know the music and songs they were singing. But one cool thing was, they were giving out free little food like cup cakes to the people by answering a few question.

  • Last Night In The Dorm Room

Last Night In The Dorm Room

Last Night In The Dorm Room – Life at night is pretty fun in my dorm room where the lights are dimmed, soft music is turned on and later lying on the bed to enjoy a couple of drama show. I have tried to create a relax environment in my dorm room for me because I think life must be fun, and money saving too. It’s not all about party all night long, clubbing everyday which make up an enjoyable life, life can be fun in the room too.

    Untitled

Another thing is that being an interior design student, I would like to decorate my room to a cool, fun and nice room. I don’t want it to be a typical dorm room, so don’t be surprise to see many Ikea stuff in my room. I just love Ikea so much. Haha.

    Untitled

You know, moreover Internet speed gets faster at night when there’s less people using it at home. Haha. You can do more thing on the Internet. If I have a bigger room, I would like to have a Xbox 360 + Kinect, sounds so awesome! Too bad, I live in a small room.

  • Singapore’s Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands And Olympic Walk

Singapore’s Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands And Olympic Walk

Singapore’s Esplanade, Marina Bay Sands And Olympic Walk – Today, I want to share with you the beauty of the Singapore’s city and the recent Marina Bay Sands Resorts. I went there a few months back when I was visiting my brother and brother took me for a stroll after dinner at the Esplanade and Marina Bay Sands Resorts to enjoy the night scene of Singapore City and to take photos.

Singapore is a very standard country, what I mean standard is a very well-organized country with no messy construction. All building in the Singapore skyline are align in a proper manner which makes it a great city. Somehow, I still love my own hometown, Penang, which is also one of the Straits Settlement area.

Back to Singapore, I walked from Esplanade to Marina Bay Sands Resorts. The walk took about 15 minutes, from Esplanade, passing the Youth Olympic Park and crossing the cool Helix Bridge. It’s my first time going there after so many visit to Singapore almost every year. I will be going there again soon.

So sad that I didn’t bring a tripod with me, else the photo will be even nicer and cooler. I found some platform which I put my camera there, set on timer and take a shot. The Marina Bay Sands indeed look like a spaceship on top and a very futuristic architecture can be seen. The ArtScience Museum is shaped like a hand and it fired beam during the light show at at night. It’s nice that there’s light show like in the Hong Kong entertaining people.

Checking out the inside, it’s a shopping mall, hotel plus the main thing, casino! I saw skating in there but I felt weird because there’s isn’t any reflective ice surface nor it looks like ice. While getting closer, it looks like some sort of plastic and after Googling, I found out it’s a kind of plastic laid with oil. Yeah, plastic! Cool, but weird.

It’s like being in Macau or somewhere else with resort casino. Shopping, play, eat and gamble all under one roof. This is what Marina Bay Sands is, just without the theme park. Yet, the shopping experience is very cool, ranging from high end designers’ brand to mid-end local brand.

I found out that it has a mini canal in the mall, just like the Venetian in Macau, providing gondola ride too, but then the canal looks just too modern with the lack of “real” canal look and feel.

At the outside, I found a very very very cool thing which I think is the best part of my tour that night. There’s a big bowl outside Marina Bay Sands, which is actually a roof for the inner part. It’s semi-sphere bowl with a thick glass material. Now the cool part is when you talk to the center of the bowl, your voice can be heard on the other end. It’s just simply fun and marvelous. Brother and I actually found out this when we were standing by and we heard many voices coming around from the center of the bowl, as i someone was talking to us.

Lastly, we passed Olympic Walk, to the city centre, back to the MRT station and to somewhere else. Weeee. Don’t like the lifestyle of Singaporean, but like visiting the place. =)

  • Changkat Bukit Bintang And KL Tower At Night

Changkat Bukit Bintang And KL Tower At Night

Changkat Bukit Bintang And KL Tower At Night – Kuala Lumpur is an awesome place to explore, it’s a very happening place during the weekend, especially at night. When night falls, all the night animal comes out from their zoo to the city, to eat, to explore, to hunt and to party.

One fine Saturday night, I went to town – Kuala Lumpur with my Penang friend, for fun, and to find chicken wings to eat on Jalan Alor.

It’s not an quiet Saturday night, but rather noisy, happenings, with traffic jam on the road, people all around the food stalls area and city lights shining up the night skyline.

We went to Jalan Alor first to look for the famous roasted chicken wings that I have always heard which I never get to try, however I am proud to say, I have tried it and will show you the photo of the roasted chicken wing in the next post. =D

On a Saturday night, it’s not really easy to find a parking around town. Illegal parking fee collector collect as much as RM10 or more for parking. We went to a few parking which is at RM7 rate, but we insisted not to park and wanted to find something cheaper, and lastly, we found RM5, that’s right beside the road, still dangerous and will be fined if there’s traffic police. I wonder do traffic police works at night or not?

Jalan Alor is really happening, it’s like Hong Kong’s Temple Street, but what’s making me not pleasant is that many foreign worker from Myammar, Nepal, China and others working here, touting customer to their restaurant.

Later then, we went to check out Changkat Bukit Bintang, the famous street full of pubs and restaurants. I didn’t know about this place at first, only until I read about it on Lonely Planet travel guide. It was my first time visiting the street. Do you know that there’s gay pub here? HAHAHA, I am not gay by the way, just sharing out with you guys.

It’s really happenings that every pubs and restaurant were full of people in the middle of the night, I wonder where they came from. It’s just like Clarke Quay in Singapore or Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong.

Changkat Bukit Bintang And KL Tower At Night

We ended our trip with a visit to the bottom of KL Tower. =D

  • Walk Walk At Bangsar

Sunday night was lame because I didn’t know where to eat. I was driving pointlessly at Bukit Damansara area and there’s no cheap and good food around HELP University College. That’s bored and I and my friends went to Bangsar, for fun, and to find food.

Found no parking by the roadside and was forced to park in Bangsar Village Mall that cost me RM4.50 for about 2 hours of parking. That’s really expensive.

Bangsar Village Mall is pretty cool, the retail outlet and the F&B outlet, however they are all out of our budget. Walking pointlessly along the road to look for food on a Sunday night, we’ve finally decided to pick one randomly outside the mall and we picked Chawan. Bangsar was pretty quite on a Sunday night by the way.

    Chien Chern.

    Tee Jin.

    Hsieh Zhen.

Penang people in Klang Valley ROCKS! Despite having a variety of restaurants in the capital of Malaysia, I still prefer my hometown. Blah. What a random post. Come and follow me on Twitter, do you play Twitter? =)

  • A Short While At Thursday SS2 Chow Yang Pasar Malam

I am always in search of pasar malam or simply known as night market in Klang Valley. I have found one on Monday at SS2 around bank area, one on Wednesday which the most famous one at Taman Connaught and recently found another one at SS2, but at Chow Yang restaurant there which is on Thursday night.

Very easy to find, just search for Jalan SS2/6 on GPS or Google Maps and you can find it.

I didn’t really plan for this trip as I incidentally found it while driving back home after a movie and I was craving for bubble tea so I went to search for it. I didn’t want to go far for bubble tea as I know the nearest bubble tea to me at that wee hour was the pasar malam.

The SS2 Chow Yang pasar malam has a variety of stuff for you to shop like street food, fashion clothing, wet market vegetable and meat, and the very bad pirated DVDs and CDs.

As you know I am a pasar malam fan because I found it quite interesting and happenings. It’s not luxurious stuff which I couldn’t afford, I need not to pick a good attire for it, I can just wear my pajamas to there too. Simple, nice and fun.

Besides that, pasar malam is always a nice place as I can see people from all walks of life, happy friends and family walking around the happenings night market.

After getting my bubble tea, I went to walk around the pasar malam before heading back. Any nice pasar malam to intro in Klang Valley? =)
