Spent My Wednesday Afternoon At Muntri Mews

I am a selfish person and I don’t really like to spend money to buy a coffee and enjoy the hotspot internet at a nicely cafe. But my mindset changed lately when I spent my afternoon at the Muntri Mews Cafe on Wednesday with a little bowl of Chinese desserts and using the free hotspot Internet.

It’s fun to spend time at home when there’s air con and no need to spend any money but I feel that after some times, we will started to slack and rot at home, then life gets boring and dull. It’s actually pretty good that you bring your computer out and spend your usual online activity, online business out there at a nice and cozy cafe, with some light meal for bites.

I was thinking of going to Jing Si Books & Cafe but I couldn’t find any parking around the busy financial district area of Penang. Then I Googled and found about MoonTree 47 but it was closed and I ended up at a cafe of a flashpacker hotel, Muntre Mews. Quite a cozy place for some hideout. Still in search for some nice heritage cafes with nice coffee to chill out during the afternoon of my holidays. Any recommendation?

By the way, I ordered myself a bowl of Cheng Th’ng (RM6.00+), which in fact is similar to the local’s Si Koe Th’ng and I have no idea why they named it that way. A bowl of desserts and Internet was just perfect for an afternoon chill. The Cheng Th’ng consist of longan (dragon eyes), coconut jelly and little small sea coconut bath in a sweet desserts soup and topped with a few cubes of ice. It might not worth the price as you can get similar thing with more ingredient at a roadside store, but given a nice environment and music, it’s a good eat and there’s no bad about it.

Recording life here. I went to Muntri Mews to sit this (Wednesday) afternoon. – Good night for now. I am sleepy, it’s 1.40am to be exact. Feeling stressed and worried as new semester is coming soon! I am pushing myself forward more and more.

My Monday Afternoon At Starbucks, Straits Quay

Lalala. Why people like to go Starbucks to online? What if you want to go to the toilet and who are going to take care of your personal belongings? Hmm. That’s a really good question and I also don’t know how. Can’t really put trust on the barista too, they might be busy with their word and slip pass the look on your belongings.

1 cup of Starbucks Coffee Ice Blended Frapuccinno Java Chips is RM15.50. At home, 1 cup of ice blended Milo is FREE. But people still like to go Starbucks to online. It’s a trend, it’s a getaway from home, and of course, it’s preventing yourself from growing mushroom due to staying at home for a long period.

I spent my Monday afternoon at Starbucks Coffee, Straits Quay with Hueisean. =D Cold and nice music, of course, nice coffee too. It’s not something that I do oftenly.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe – The opening of Delicious Cafe (and restaurant) at Straits Quay, Penang have been creating a trend for the young and old to talk about it and dine out at that place. The reason is probably the variety of food, desserts and of course a nice and cozy pink-purplish interiors.

Delicious Cafe origins from 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara Utama, Klang Valley and the opening in Straits Quay is the first outlet in Penang and outside Klang Valley. I have not really dine out at there, just have been hearing many friends talk about the place, despite it’s a mid-end pricing restaurant.

On one night, I visited the place to eat some desert. It was crowded with people at about 9.30pm and it’s a little bit noisy. I didn’t want to sit outdoor as it was hot and humid. No choice that I have to bare the noisyness and eat my dessert.

The unfortunate event was my girlfriend ordered the Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream at the counter but the waitress told us it’s not available after 5 minutes because it’s all been booked. That’s fine, and we changed to Strawberry Cheese Cake (RM15), and we waited 10 minutes for that. The cake was not that awesome when compare to Secret Recipe, some like it, but it’s not being friendly with my sweet tooth. It looks very pretty though.

We spent some times chatting and surfing the net with the free wifi then we went back. While going out of the door, we took a glance at the desserts cake counter, and shockingly found out that there’s still so many Classic Chocolate Cake. Damn. The waitress told us that they refilled it, they didn’t tell us that they would refill the thing at first this made me have a first bad impression about the service.

What do you think? I might give a second visit to see how it goes. =)

#smcpg5 Penang Heritage Mobile Photography Walk @smcpg

@smcpg is actually the Social Media Club Penang and #smcpg5 is their 5th outing and gathering. It’s my first time joining SMCPG as previously, I was not in and busy for their outing. I am glad that I was invited CJ who was part of SMCPG to join their 5th outing on last Saturday which was a mobile photography walk in the Penang UNESCO Heritage zone.

It’s really fun walking in the lovely George Town of Penang, it doesn’t feel bored walking and walking for so many times. And what’s so special on that day was a mobile photography walk. I have been using DSLR and digital camera for all the time and have not really went for a photoshoot which uses mobile phone for all the time.

iPhone 3GS and Instagram application were my companion of that day. Here are some shots that I like and shoot during that day. Enjoy. =)

Bersih 2.0 – Favourite Photos, Video and My Thoughts

Look like a warzone, but it’s them who fired it to the people. Trying to disperse, what for? Let them walk peacefully to the stadium. Then people happy, but not.

No, I wasn’t there at the Bersih 2.0 rally yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, but I have to tell you that I wanted to be there so badly but physically I am in my hometown. Even though I wasn’t there, my spirit was and is there always, to support a clean election and process of making a real democratic country.

It’s just people, walking on the street, with no weapon. But the police force fired tear gas and water canon to them.

709, 9 July 2011, was a historical to the Malaysian citizen, it’s a day to be remembered in my opinion as people of all walks of life came together, unite and walk for electoral reform. It’s the government who stupidity condemned the peace rally. The keyword is peace, it’s not like the Vancouver riot, it’s not a riot, it’s a peace rally. There’s no dangerous weapon, it’s just a peace walk to voice out the voice of Malaysian.

The government was being stubborn and keep saying that this Bersih 2.0 is illegal. What the hell is being illegal when people just want to walk on the street to voice out? It’s a planned peace rally, just walking to voice out to the King. If it’s illegal, then what’s legal?

If the Election Commission, say OK with the 8 demands, then there will not be any rally and riot. It’s not demand for changing the rights of the Malays also, but you all crazy people just scared of the 8 demands and uses all ways to stop the rally from going on, but you failed. Not many turned up, but still it’s more than 20,000 people. 20,000 is a small number of the total population, but it represents a big part of it.

If the government friend friend with the Bersih, shake hand, give Bersih a stadium, then there wouldn’t be any injury and running around the city. The traffic will be smooth and business as usual. But no, the government didn’t want to give the stadium and block all the road to KL, of course this will cause massive jam outside KL and business stops! Stupid road block is the cause of the disturbance of KL folks.

And somemore, why catch people wear yellow shirt? What the hell is this? Why wearing yellow shirt is delivering a negative message? This is the super ridiculous and very gay and very pointless!

No way, DS Anwar’s bodyguard will be hurt so easily by just walking. Hit by canister?

We, part of Malaysia, not whole, just want to show what we think on the street only and you shoot us like crazy with tear gas and water canon. It’s you, the PDRM who was being rude, aggressive and dangerous. Malaysia is a civilized country, you think the Malaysian will fight? It’s not 1963 anymore, come on it’s 2011 and there’s no Malay, Indian or Chinese, it’s all Malaysian who took part in the rally TOGETHER!

Bersih, might have political message, SO WHAT? If the government is clean and good, then what for you are scared of the rally and preventing it to happen and stop all the top leaders from entering the city? I don’t care of what the opposition is doing, but I only care about a real electoral reform for a fair and clean election. If you win it cleanly, I will keep my mouth shut for sure.

Sad for the old aunty who came to support.

Seriously, think about why people are joining the rally? People not joining the rally doesn’t mean they don’t care or disagree with it, why don’t you think about they concern, but just afraid of being caught? OK, they might be chicken, but I am sure they have the heart for it. Look at Twitter, the updates of Bersih, just look at the attendees, and the photos, it’s a true spirit of being unite together, all races, that’s the most lovely part of Bersih, it’s not PAS, it’s not DAP, it’s not BN, it’s not MCA, but it’s Malay + Chinese + Indian = Malaysians.

One thing I very TULAN is when A Samad Said wanted to submit the memorandum to His-Majesty King, the police stopped him. He is a very old man already, and he has no melee weapon or gun or anything, why the hell the authority, the upper level of police don’t allow him to get through? OLD MAN + a few papers of memorandum, that’s all, they also don’t let them go through and talked so rudely. Come on, he is just an old man.

Well, I write this hopefully won’t get caught (HAHAHA), I love my country, I am not fully disagree with the government, just some wrong doings of them, yet I am proud of being a Malaysian. Exercise your rights, register yourself for election at the nearest post office and voice out during the next elections. Malaysia Boleh! – 1 Malaysia!

Hong Kong: Causeway Bay And Somewhere Around

Hello my friends, I will be writing quite a few posts about Hong Kong this few days because I realized that I still have quite many photos to share with you guys about my Hong Kong trip during Chinese New Year this year. Although it’s late, it’s still nice to share and bring back my memory when I was in Hong Kong. This makes me miss Hong Kong so much.

As you know, one of the famous place in Hong Kong is Causeway Bay 铜锣湾 which is a mid-high end shopping district and people like to go there to shopping and also number one hang out place for Hong Kees. =)

Everytime go to Hong Kong must go to this place because of the crowds and it’s the most happening place on the Hong Kong island, whereas on Kowloon side will be the Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok area.

The famous Times Square shopping mall also situated at there but I tell you it’s quite boring inside, looking old and dull even it features some international brand at there. I don’t really like walking inside.

One cool thing about this place is that if you comes at night at 1am, there’s still people hanging around, it’s like a place that does not sleep at night. Very happenings.

I don’t know why Hong Kong has so many happenings place. Unlike Malaysia, Penang or KL. KL has the Bukit Bintang area and that’s all, and Penang, I can’t think of any happenings place, perhaps Gurney Drive? But on the weekend only. I like to go out and join the fun.

One thing that you must do at Causeway Bay, Times Square area is that go to the street food stall opposite of Times Square and grab some local street food like curry fish ball, mixed beef organs, sausages and more. They are real awesome and my dad love it very much.

It’s a trend that people either stand by the roadside to eat, or grab and eat and shop at the same time. It’s really an Hong Kong culture, that you probably can’t find it here in Malaysia.

Causeway Bay is a real shopping district, given you want to find cheap stuff at Jardine’s Crescent, or some young stuff and mid-end fashion at Sogo and Island Bevely Shopping Arcade, if you want high-end, go to Times Square. =D

Brother and I were actually walking pointlessly, and almost lost the way of going back to Times Square. Haha, but we didn’t went back there, we went to somewhere else we didn’t know where it was. We keep walking and walking to explore the place around.

And we found World Trade Centre. A office place revamped into a shopping mall too and I found Muji, my favourite Japanese minimalism item store. I wonder when Muji will come to Penang or Malaysia.

There’s plenty street food corner in Hong Kong, you can find them at almost any corner, so no worry of being hungry in Hong Kong because you can get food easily.

We also found the famous in TVB series, 打小人 hit small people, which literally means hitting the paper man with the name of the person you hate or want to curse. It’s kinda famous and lame, but still there’s people visiting these grandmas.

Tainan Restaurant at Midlands Park Shopping Centre, 1-Stop

Midlands Park Shopping Centre or more to known as 1-Stop is a place in Pulau Tikus which was a glory during 199x. However, the crowds get lesser and lesser and there’s not much retail shop except it’s famous for DVDs and computer accessories. People visit there just to eat McDonald’s, KFC or perhaps a short walk by the people who are residing in the Berjaya George Town Hotel just next to it.

My recent visit changed my view on Midlands Park Shopping Centre and found that there’s actually quite a number of F&B outlets serving office workers mostly and the locals.

Well, I am glad to be invited by Chin Wai, the owner of Tainan Restaurant in Midlands Park Centre for a little food testing and sharing session. I am a fan of Taiwanese food especially for those beef noodle, and fried chicken chop and of course bubble tea and when I got the invitation, I was so excited and surprised because I didn’t know there’s actually a Taiwanese restaurant at 1 Stop Midlands Park.

According to Chin Wai, this restaurant has over 10 years of history and features a classic and homey look which he said will be renovate and redesign the place to a more modern look. Even though the place looks classic and homey, there’s still frequent customers who visit the place quite often as some said it gives a sense of home.

So let’s get into some food shall we? =) He served us bubble tea nicely for each of us. It may not be the best bubble tea compare to Chatime, Gong Cha or whatever out there, but still it’s a good bubble tea at a Taiwanese restaurant.

Their food menu normally comes with a soup, beverage and dessert. Here what you see above is Golden Drumstick Rice (RM7.50). A crispy chicken drumstick with rice and minced pork topping and a little vegetable.

If you are a fan of chicken wings not the drumstick, they got the Golden Chicken Wing Rice (RM7) too, actually it comes with rice just but we didn’t want that many rice that day. It’s cheaper than the drumstick by RM0.50 and to me I like the chicken wing more than the drumstick, it’s even crispier and tastier.

Taiwan is always famous for crispy deep fried food. What you are seeing above is the Pork Chop (RM7 with rice) and it’s crispyness makes it tasted good and keep wanting more.

If you fancy something different with a little bit mayonnaise topping and crispyness, the Crispy Nestum Chicken Ball (RM8) is good. The Nestum added a little bit of cereal oats taste, making it feel more than chicken and it’s feel a little bit like chicken nugget, but in an oriental way.

Taiwan is famous for beef noodle. If you go to Taiwan, beef noodle can be seen almost at anywhere. At Tainan Restaurant, they do serve Beef Noodle too. What’s special is the soup which actually more creamy than normal Taiwanese beef noodle. The beef taste is strong and overall it’s OK-good.

I am a fan of Taiwanese sausage because of the tenderness and sweetness in the sausage. It tasted special and they have it too at RM8.50 which comes with rice.

Lastly, check out their Prawn Roll (RM7.50) which stuffed little shrimp in it and have a crispy skin outside. It looks like lobak but actually it’s shrimp. Comes with rice too!

So, here you go, a little intro of a mini Taiwanese restaurant at Midlands Park 1 Stop and you now have another place for lunch and dinner. Cheer~
