  • Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy Memorial

Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy Memorial

It has been two week since the Chung Ling Dragon Boat Tragedy passed. My school lost a teacher, and 5 student and I lost a friend. I know that we have to move on from now, although the thing is still in my and our head, still we have to move on, life goes on from now. Anyhow, it’s still a sad thing.

    IMG_4711 by nicholaschan.

Yesterday, the school had a memorial event in the school hall. I wanted to go, but I was stuck in a traffic jam because of Thaipusam festival. When I arrived in school, the whole school was quiet, and it was almost the end of the memorial.

    IMG_4713 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4714 by nicholaschan.

It was playing a video clips of the lates, and it’s a very emo moment, tears dropped down once again. Still feeling and thinking, WHY?

Some says that they shouldn’t have this memorial event because it was getting forgotten in the mind and almost move on with life, but this thing has caused emotional breakdown once again.

Everyone in the hall paid a last respect before dismissing. We will always miss you. >.<

  • Short Visit to Hard Rock Hotel

Short Visit to Hard Rock Hotel

Yay! I’ve finally been to the Hard Rock Hotel at Batu Ferringhi, Penang! It’s my first time but it’s not an official visit. Why? Because I didn’t stay long at there and didn’t take many photos. Was planning to go somewhere else with Jin Xin and Huan Sheng that night, passed by Hard Rock Hotel so went in to take a look.

    IMG_4519 by nicholaschan.

Although didn’t take many photos, I can now tell people that I’ve been there before already.

    IMG_4523 by nicholaschan.
    Let’s carry this Be@rbrick home.

The interior really rocks, many things to see and have live band playing live music at the lobby. My friend told me that the live band in Hard Rock cafe rocks more than the one in the lobby, but still, they were awesome.

Just one sad thing is that Hard Rock Cafe is only open for above 21, and I am only 17, going 18 soon! There’s one trick and that is eating dinner at there before the live band starts and stay in the cafe till the band is here. Then you’ll pass the ID check. Didn’t try before though.

    Lights on my ass. LOL.

What rocks the most is the fibre optic lights at the main entrance. The color keep changing and it shows the Hard Rock logo. Prettyful! =D

    Me and Jin Xin.

    IMG_4536 by nicholaschan.

Find one fine day, I’m gonna go there again, to take many many photos, of course, it will be when my broken lens came back from service and thanks Huan Sheng for the photos. =)

  • That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

    IMG_4370 by nicholaschan.

I went shopping at Farlim’s weekly night market last week with mom. It’s so crowded, so dusty because of the sand, and so many things to see but I have got nothing to buy. Mom bought a lot of clothes but not me, I saw some cool stuff too, but I prefer buying it in the mall.

    IMG_4387 by nicholaschan.

While I was accompanying mom shopping, I hear people talking through the microphone, in Hokkien. It sounded like there’s street show going on, so curiosity, I went to check it out.

    IMG_4384 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4378 by nicholaschan.

I then saw many people gather around and see a guy talking stuff and stories.

    IMG_4386 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4382 by nicholaschan.

This guy claimed he came from Sarawak and he talked really a lot lot lot. He said there will be something special to be shown after his talking, I was there waiting and waiting until I got inpatient and walked away. Haha, really can’t wait for him to finish his talking, because he just has got too many things to talkabout.

Till then, I don’t really know what he sells, I think is some sort of Sarawak herbs medicine.

  • Last Sunday at Chowrasta Market

    Last Sunday at Chowrasta Market

It’s the time for a yearly visit to Chowrasta Market in town. Every year, when close to Chinese New Year, mom sure bring me to Chowrasta Market for a walk. I also like going there because there’s many people, very happenings, I like!

    IMG_4127 by nicholaschan.

Why before Chinese New Year? I also don’t know why, maybe there’s more Chinese New year-related stuff to see at there I think.

Woke up pretty early that morning, at around 8am, freshing up took me 1 hour then arrived there at around 93oam. There’s already many people there when I was there.

    IMG_4129 by nicholaschan.
Oranges are healthy! You like? I only like orange juice.

    IMG_4133 by nicholaschan.

I went to have breakfast at there, it was a plate of wan tan noodle and it’s not nice, wrong stall I went.

    IMG_4135 by nicholaschan.
    Selling glasses.

    Thailand! Shirt.

After that just walkaround with mom and dad.

    IMG_4142 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4165 by nicholaschan.

The most crowded stalls are the stalls that sell clothes, many ladies gathered and pick their favourite. Although there’s no fitting room, clothes bought can be exchange after you find it not suitable. Cool right?

Though, pasar malam (night market) have more fashion stuff then morning market, morning market is more about meat and vegetable.

One very stupid thing is, I don’t know why people want to drive into this crowded street. It’s market and full of people in the morning, they knew it and they still want to move it, mindless. The state authority should road block the place during the market hour.

  • A While at Kuan Yin Temple

A While at Kuan Yin Temple

So many bad and sad things happened lately, the dragon boat tragedy, I got food poison and went into the hospital, and camera gear spoil. Mom asked me to go to the temple for a pray for good luck and good in everything. Chinese New Year is coming and I also hoped that I will have good luck all the time.

    IMG_4338 by nicholaschan.

Long time didn’t go Kuan Yin temple already. The last time, was like before SPM which we were having temples hopping in Penang.

    IMG_4339 by nicholaschan.
    Flock of birds.

So last week, I went there with Arron and Chien Chern. Bought praying materials and went to pray in the temple. The whole process took like 15 minutes.

After pray, I went home. Very fast, and very short while. Didn’t spend much time out there because it was getting late and I don’t want to be stuck in the traffic jam.

  • Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

I know it’s already 2010 but I still have so many things to share with you guys in 2009 man. Back to Christmas Day 09, it’s pretty lame and spontaneous day, but yet fun and interesting. No sense of direction and plans to go and ended up at a night market at night.

I thought after going to Nautilus Bay, Gertak Sanggul, dropped Chaiwei home then I will be home, only then I realized that that day was Friday and there’s night market on every Friday night, so last minute decided to go take a tour and dinner at the night market.

    IMG_2171 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2172 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2173 by nicholaschan.

We were there early, so we went to Yiphing‘s place for a sit first before the night falls and the night market starts. Talked and prank called Chien Chern before going to the night market, pretty lame.

    IMG_2174 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2175 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2177 by nicholaschan.

It’s very happenings, very crowded on a Christmas night, but then the walk way is very narrow and I don’t like. Feels like pushing all the way and keep moving on, hard to stop by and see something. Perhaps Farlim’s night market is funner, but then I still like happening place.

    IMG_2178 by nicholaschan.

It’s always the same thing, clothing, junk food, hawker food, accessories but no pirated DVDs.

    IMG_2179 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2182 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2190 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2191 by nicholaschan.

Met Andy and Ammerlynn at the night market, they joined us for Hokkien noodle and Char Koay Kak which I think they’re so-so only, I know better one at other place.

    IMG_2195 by nicholaschan.

Then try to camwhore a bit but always failed and took a lot of shot. The whole night street, it’s just keep flashing, flashing and flashing, everyone was like looking at us and I didn’t care and we were in the middle of the road. LOL.

Take 1: Failed, because no Chai Wei.

    IMG_2197 by nicholaschan.

Take 2: Failed, because Chai Wei’s face was too big and Andy was out.

    IMG_2198 by nicholaschan.

Take 3: Failed, because Chai Wei didn’t look at the lens.

    IMG_2199 by nicholaschan.

Take 4: Failed because Andy out of focus a bit and Chai Wei was out again.

    IMG_2200 by nicholaschan.

Take 6: Passed (a bit). ALL IN!

    IMG_2201 by nicholaschan.

    Happy new year. Haha

  • Went to AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City

Went to AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City

AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City  is actually a shopping mall on the mainland of Penang. I think it’s pretty new, like opened few years back only and it’s big. Always wanted to go check it out but didn’t really get a chance, dad always forgotten to bring us go so this time I went with Alvin, Arron, Chien Chern and Tee Jin while we were at Butterworth during the holidays.

    IMG_2434 by nicholaschan.

I actually accompanied them to check out a job interview. Then after the job thing, we got no where to go, so we hop on one of the Rapid Penang bus which took us to the AEON Jusco Seberang Prai City mall.

    IMG_2441 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2442 by nicholaschan.

I’ve forgotten to note the bus number but it’s pretty easy to get on. At the Penang Sentral, also the bus terminal on the mainland, just check out bus that has place list with Jusco and that’s it. Get on for almost a 45 minutes trip to reach there.

    IMG_2445 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2446 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2460 by nicholaschan.

    Nice building. What’s that?

Not near, it’s pretty far, but I believe you can reach faster if you drive there. Consult Google Maps on how-to. That’s what I always do. While on the bus, we passed a lot of kampungs, small padi fields, a lot of trees and many unknown sub-urban place.

    IMG_2464 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2466 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2470 by nicholaschan.

We saw the AEON mall in sight and press for bell to alight. The mall is almost the same like the one that I’ve visited in Johor Bahru, the AEON Jusco Tebrau City.

    IMG_2475 by nicholaschan.

It’s long inside, shop lots are big, they keep on saying it’s like Queensbay Mall and there’s only 3 floors with quite many standard shops too.

    IMG_2477 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2478 by nicholaschan.

    LOLs.

The place is not bad, quite standard but something very scary is that it’s so quiet when we were there. It’s like one of the weekday in December and there’s only little little people. This place is built in a very ulu (suburban) place and nobody comes on weekday. Deserted a bit already.

    IMG_2481 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2482 by nicholaschan.

After having afternoon tea slash lunch at there, we went out to find bus and go back to the ferry terminal. There’s food outlet there, but all expensive expensive and we were budget eater, so forced to eat at their food court, just same like the other Jusco food court like at Queensbay Mall.

    IMG_2483 by nicholaschan.

Took the ferry back to Penang island. Island sweet island. ^^

  • Ferry Ride to Butterworth with Friends

Ferry Ride to Butterworth with Friends

    IMG_2399 by nicholaschan.

During the holiday, I went to Butterworth with a few friends via the ferry instead of using the Penang’s Bridge. I don’t really always go to the mainland of Penang, it’s mostly factories at there, so nothing much for me to go over there. I tend to stick to the island more. However, that day was different, my friend went there to interview for a job and I followed along just for fun.

    IMG_2401 by nicholaschan.

New place in town, Bar 36 The Social Club.

We parked our car at the parking lot near the ferry terminal and then went to the ferry. The parking was RM3 for half day and the ferry ride was free for going to the mainland. Ferry ride coming to the island need to pay though.

    IMG_2405 by nicholaschan.

The weather on that day was pretty nice, not very sunny, a little bit cloudy.

    IMG_2409 by nicholaschan.

    Quiet ferry.

    IMG_2422 by nicholaschan.

    Many giraffe at the back.

We went there, looked for the job interview then took the bus to inner mainland to the AEON Jusco Seberang Jaya shopping mall to take a look. Then we went back to the ferry terminal before sunset. It’s so convenient.

    IMG_2485 by nicholaschan.

No Touch N’ Go. It’s very manual, only accept coin and it’s RM1.60 for the trip back.

  • Christmas Day 09 to Gertak Sanggul, Teluk Kumbar

Christmas Day 09 to Gertak Sanggul, Teluk Kumbar

Continued from previous post where I talk about going to the Jelutong seafront promenade, after that I thought of going to Queensbay Mall but I didn’t know what to do at there. I believe there sure will be many people too because it’s a public holiday, so we went somewhere else where we haven’t been to before.

    IMG_2132 by nicholaschan.

It’s around 4pm, afternoon tea time, we went to the food stall at the market near to Sunshine Square at Bayan Lepas to eat our afternoon tea. I had a bowl of laksa there and they ordered themselves a bowl of tomyam noodle.

    IMG_2134 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2135 by nicholaschan.

After tea time, there’s 2 lame ideas for next destination, one is Auto City and another is Gertak Sanggul, Teluk Kumbar. I didn’t feel like going to Auto City because I was there 3 days before Christmas so we went driving up to Gertak Sanggul for fun, pointless, it’s just driving.

    IMG_2142 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2167 by nicholaschan.

Was thinking to check out the beach or something near to the sea but found out that there’s a bridge which connected out to the sea, and the bridge is broken and not usable. Too bad.

    IMG_2147 by nicholaschan.

We were at the seaside in Jelutong and we were at the seaside again at Teluk Kumbar. I don’t know this place is Gertak Sanggul or Teluk Kumbar. I like to call it Teluk Kumbar more, so any idea, precisely, this place is Gertak Sanggul or Teluk Kumbar? I think is somewhere between Gertak Sanggul and Teluk Kumbar.

There’s sea, a good spot for sunset but we were early and we were so far away from sunset yet, like 1 hour more till sunset, moreover it was drizzling a little bit.

    IMG_2150 by nicholaschan.

  • Christmas Day 09 at Jelutong Seafront Promenade, Nautilus Bay

Christmas Day 09 at Jelutong Seafront Promenade, Nautilus Bay

Last year’s Christmas Day was special and very spontaneous. I woke up in mid morning and I have nothing to do, just surf the net and watch the TV. Initially, I thought of going to Penang Times Square at around 2pm after lunch to check out the Leo Club’s activity.

    IMG_2105 by nicholaschan.

I went to find Chen Yuen and Chai Wei to go along, and when we were at Penang Times Square, there’s a long queue for carpark, which made me change my mind not to go there. I hate waiting for car park, it’s very very long.

    IMG_2106 by nicholaschan.

We then spontaneously think of a place to go. The first stop was the Jelutong Seafront Promenade at Nautilus Bay, very unfamiliar name. I found this name on Google. =) It’s the seafront promenade at Bandar Sri Pinang, the four pillars standing high are the place’s sign.

    IMG_2107 by nicholaschan.

We actually went there just for fun. No idea where to go and it’s not planned. Just got down, walked and took photos for a while then we hopped back on to the car and go to somewhere else.

    IMG_2108 by nicholaschan.
