  • Hong Kong’s Central-Mid Levels Escalators

Don’t you feel awesome where you can take the escalator from the bottom to the middle of the hill. What a nice invention of technology and machinery. In Hong Kong, the Central-Mid Levels Escalators 中环至半山自动扶梯 is a very famous escalator in the world and Hong Kong which commute people up and down the hill.

In Hong Kong, the hill is not green, it’s all concrete buildings and Central area where the CBD is, is on a slope of a hill. A visit to Hong Kong must check out the escalator, even though it’s just an escalator, it’s long and bring you up very far like 500m or more.

We thought of  going up Mid-Levels 半山 from Central, then will reach the tram station which goes up to The Peak, but we failed. We couldn’t find any tram station on top. Though, it’s a nice walk through the escalator up Mid-Levels and we saw many thing.

Mom was busy shopping so it was me, brother and daddy.

Here we go. The escalator was only available for going up and people have to walk down the stairs if you want to go downwards. There’s so many people, working people, residents and tourists taking the escalator. At the lower level, it’s quite crowded but as you go further up, it become less and less people as there’s less commercial building and it’s all residential area up there.

It’s a nice walk up the older side of Hong Kong and so cool that we were on a slope of the hill. All the buildings were built very nicely too! With old Hong Kong architecture blends with British architecture, real cool.

At some point of the escalator way, there’s this mini station which encourages people to tap their Octopus card where you can get 10HK$ rebate. It’s a good way to stop people down and also encourages you to walk and use their service. Octopus Card is actually equivalent to our local’s Touch N’ Go card. You can see in the photo above where people queue up just go for a tap. I tapped my card too. =D

It seems nice to live at there but then imaging commuting up and down everyday like this also will tired.

Don’t be surprise to see flats, apartments up there as far as I know, this place is rather super expensive in Hong Kong as it’s so near to Central.

We reached the highest point of the escalator which is Mid-Levels or just known as middle height of the hill, we thought we could take a tram up to the Peak but then we couldn’t find the station anywhere near us. We walked around, asked and no one seems to know where’s the tram station is. Guess the riches up there don’t know what’s tram and only know about cars and chauffeur.

At the highest point of the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator is high end residential area. We were tired and thought of taking a cab down there but it seems ridiculous so, we just walked back down slowly.

And we were back to the lowest point in about 10 minutes. =D

  • Random Shots At Heong Giam Si Temple

Haha, it’s another post about temple and I did not purposely go to this temple to take photos. It’s actually I brought my camera with me during this visit to the temple with mom to pay a memorial visit to the late grandma of my dad.

Heong Giam Si Temple, located near to the state mosque (Masjid Negeri) at Air Itam there is actually a memorial hall which houses people’s ancestor’s tablets.

It rained during our visit and it was quite a heavy rain. I took out my camera and go for some shots.

And after the rain, blue sky came. =D

    What a random post.

  • Kuan Yin Teng – Temple Of The Goddess Of Mercy, Penang

Kuan Yin Teng – Temple Of The Goddess Of Mercy, Penang

On a find Tuesday afternoon, I was feeling bored and I went to Pitt Street alone to the famous Kuan Yin Teng (Kuan Yin Temple/Temple Of The Goddess Of Mercy) to walkaround, take some photos and pray a little bit. It was a hot day, yet it’s nice to go there to take photos.

As you know, this temple is one of the oldest temple in Penang and have been serving the Taoist devotees well over the century. It’s one of the building in the listing of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and people still going there to pray everyday and it’s get crowded during the first and the 15th day of the Lunar calendar.

The temple houses several God and Goddess of the Toaism. It was constructed in the early 1800s by the Chinese immigrant. My grandma is a frequent visitor of the temple too.

Outside the temple, there’s many stalls selling praying material like joss sticks and candle and they will be touting you to buy their stuff when you passes by. Actually, it’s all the same, what’s matter is the heart and sincerity of praying.

There’s actually Chinese opera outside the temple, serving the God and Goddess for a spiritual entertainment show, however the opera show was off during that time.

As you know, I have some nice feel towards holy places like temple and church because these place give me a sense of peace and quiet. They all features nice artwork and architecture too especially old Chinese temple and old churches in the European countries.

I heard that there’s plan of revamping the praying experience at the temple which is that no joss stick will be allow to go bring in into the inner hall. Praying will be done outside the temple, just like the Wong Tai Sin temple in Hong Kong. This is to preserve and maintain a clean and holy environment in the temple. Somehow, I don’t know whether it will be implemented or not.

This is a must visit place in Penang. =)

  • Cadbury Pop It Or Drop It Ground Event At Pavilion

[ADV] Hello people. Last week, I went to Pavilion at Bukit Bintang to check out the Cadbury Choclairs Pop It Or Drop It Ground Event! Yes, you are right, it’s the ground event, not the Internet Facebook game that I introduced few weeks back.

It’s the real thing where people play the real game instead of playing on the keyboard. Damn cool you know. The event started at about 12pm and ended at around 4.30pm. I was around there to join the fun, see what were the contestants doing and having fun. The whole event was pretty interesting.

It was not really a sunny day, drizzled a little bit in the afternoon but luckily the drizzle did not stop the game from going on. However, the cloudy day made it a nice day to spend some times outdoor. I see people were having fun at the Cadbury Choclairs Pop It Or Drop It game. They were just playing hard to win the grand prize which is a ticket for 4 to Gold Coast, Australia!

The game goes like this actually which two participants have to race to the end, the fastest duo wins away the prizes. There’s different part of the game. The first part is the Bungee Dash is like tug of war. The player has to ran against the pulling to get hold of the big Cadbury Choclairs.

Then he need to bounce up the to the top at the next station, then slide down. It’s bounce, or jump, not climb. =D Then he has to slide down and find 10 mini balls.

After that, he will need to pop the balloons with only using the ass which sounds funny and fun.

After successfully popping the balloon, he will then need to climb up a spiderweb where chocolate milk is pouring from top as a chocolate rain. He will bath in chocolate, and he then reaches the final check point and TIME! Sounds interesting right? I actually like the chocolate rain part where people really can taste the chocolate with just an open of the mouth! I wanted to play so badly, just however that I did not bring any extra clothing to change. Aduh.

Besides the big game, there’s also small games like popping Choclairs on a big screen and treasure hunt on Choclairs which leaded to a handphone prize! It’s like a mini games and prizes carnival set up by Cadbury. Very fun.

Besides that, I was not so lucky to win the lucky draw which the prizes were handphone and cash!
