    Taipei: Around The Beautiful Taipei 101, Xinyi District

    Taipei: Around The Beautiful Taipei 101, Xinyi District – Previously, I’ve visited the tallest building in the world that shape like a bamboo – Taipei 101 in the day time, it doesn’t look that great in daylight somehow. Then I went again at night and yeah, it’s better! But then being a patriotic Malaysian, I’ve to say KLCC is the best. =D
    Went to walk around the high end shopping district of Xinyi and the retails are pretty fascinating but then right, the crowds wasn’t really happenings. Hmm. I wonder where are the people? It was a Tuesday night by the way.

    Bangkok: Khao San Road – The Hangover 2 Place – Last year, I’ve wanted to go to Khao San Road during my Bangkok trip in 2012, but I didn’t get the chance cause I was busy checking out other night market. The recent trip had gave me another chance to visit the scene from Hangover Part 2 – Khao San Road!
    If you read from Lonely Planet or any online source, this place was very famous for Caucasian backpackers with lots of cheap hostel, bars, internet cafes and Pad Thai! But it gets even famous now, still to the tourist, but from everywhere of the world, Asian, Blacks, everyone young and energetic just loves this place.
    You can hear music blasting off the bar while walking pass food stalls, and imitation branded stuff stalls as well as some little fashion boutique stalls. Tourist roaming along Khao San Road and the alleys with a beer on hand, backpackers with handful of luggage and camera, booth that can help you make fake ID, Thai walking around selling exotic food like scorpion, mobile bar with Chang and Singha Beer… Well, this place is just awesome at night.
    I have a friend told me that it gets even more happenings after 12 when 7 Eleven stops selling beer and mobile bars move out all scale to sell you beer, music turns even louder, the whole street literally become an open party area. Too bad, I couldn’t experience that, it rained during my visit. Down. Nevermind, will go again the next time!

    Bangkok: Random Street Walks

    Bangkok: Random Street Walks – I find Bangkok has culture, has style, and it’s very vibrant when comparing to Kuala Lumpur. Although lifestyle can be more luxurious in Kuala Lumpur, but then the what stands out in Bangkok is their culture, hardly being influence by others. Well, that’s the Thai-style. Malaysian-style is to follow what’s and who’s cool.
    One side of the road can be super modern shopping mall in Bangkok, and across the street, you might stumble upon some small alleys with good foods, small and cheaper fashion boutique, street performers by the pedestrian walkway and then you might come to a mid-end shopping mall, and again some interesting alleys. Best part of all, people are walking here and there, the city itself is happenings! Walking is not our Malaysian culture, we prefer to drive here and there, we are quite lazy huh? Haha.

    Stumbled into a back alley and found people queuing for Mango Sticky Rice! @ Mango Tango. It seems very cool, but we didn’t get a chance to try it out, long queue oh long queue!

    MBK, place where you can find a lot of high quality imitation branded bags. I’ve read that there’s Thai’s boxing fight every week! Must check it out on the next visit. My parents are not interested in that.

    Bangkok: Must-Eat Swensens Ice Cream

    Bangkok: Must-Eat Swensens Ice Cream – You know right, one of the must-eat thing in Bangkok or anywhere in Thailand is Swensen’s Ice Cream. Why? It’s because it’s dirty cheap, no I should say low-priced! Yeah, the desserts are so much cheaper than the Swensen’s in Malaysia and Singapore. Ice cream desserts in Thai’s Swensen’s starts from 69Baht (about RM7), and in Malaysia it’s from RM15, there’s so much difference!
    After some research, I found out that Swensen’s actually specialize in ice cream desserts and founded in San Francisco, California. Somehow, the Swensen’s in Malaysia and Singapore serves food, which seems more to be a Western cuisine restaurant than ice cream restaurant.
    So in Thai, the Swensen’s only serves ice cream, and you must just try it out!

    Bangkok: Golden Buddha Temple / Wat Traimit, Chinatown – Few days ago, I shared about the 4 Faces Buddha, now I would like to bring you to the Golden Buddha at Chinatown. I have been to Bangkok for quite a several time, but this time was my first time checking out this temple.

    Well, I don’t know, but the temple claims that the Golden Buddha is the world’s largest solid gold statue. WOW! Imagine how heavy and how much value it is. It’s really very magnificent for it’s solid gold material! As usual, did some prayers, got some blessings from the monk and off we go.

    Bangkok: Erawan Four Faces Buddha Shrine

    Bangkok: Erawan Four Faces Buddha Shrine – A must-visit for Buddhist in Bangkok as it’s a place I would visit for a little prayer every time I travel to Bangkok! It’s so famous that Buddhist from all over the world flock to this little corner at Erawan to do prayer! The Buddhist way of praying is actually wish for some good luck from the Buddha, and people claims that the wish comes true after praying here. I do not know a lot about prayers, I just seek for Buddha’s blessing and that’s it. Even if you are not a Buddhist, it’s nice to take a visit to this place, and see the devotees doing their prayer. Very culture-ful!

    Bangkok: A Night Walk Around Pratunam

    Bangkok: A Night Walk Around Pratunam – In my Bangkok trip, I stayed at a hotel named Ecotel Hotel and it’s located in the Pratunam District. You might thought it’s near to Platinum, Central World, but then it’s quite a far walk. Anyway, me and my family went for a walk around that area on a fine night after Thai food treatment. We were too full and a walk in the city helps the digestion, I guess.
    Do you just realised that Thai enjoys the night? They operate their street food stalls at night, just anywhere in the city, and there’s lots of stalls set up by the pedestrian walkway, selling clothes, bags and accessories. I know those are targeting the tourist, but I find it a good way to light up the night.

    Bangkok: Terminal 21 Shopping Mall

    Bangkok: Terminal 21 Shopping Mall – One of my favourite thing I like about Bangkok is their shopping mall, not those typical old MBK or Platinum, but their new modern mall like Siam Paragon, Siam Centre, Central World and this Terminal 21. Their malls are really well-maintained and the interior design is actually quite interesting!
    Terminal 21 is one very interesting mall as it’s has a theme of famous travel destination like London, Paris, Rome, Japan, and more and it also incorporate airport-style design too, like those terminal gate, huge airport-style clock!
    Best part, there’s cheap and fashionable buy too! I actually bought some nice fashion shirt at there! Here’s come the most interesting part, all of the toilets has different designs, you can hardly visit them all. The Thai really take design and fun seriously. Salute!
    The world is small! Couldn’t believe I met my classmate – Jia Hui, at Terminal 21. Haha.

    Bangkok: KL LCCT, Don Muang Airport, Raining @ Nana – 2 weeks ago, I went on a short trip to Bangkok, one of my favourite destination in South East Asia. There’s a very unfavourable moment happened on that trip – I had diarrhoea! I was very well until the day before I leave Bangkok, then the I started to head to the washroom very often until no medicine can stop it. That really ruined my last day at Bangkok. Well, this does cause some phobia to me, because the last time I went to Hatyai, I also had diarrhoea after I came home. I suspected it’s the sausage bought from the convenience stall was the source of the sickness as it’s me and brother had it and we two had diarrhoea. Haha. Anyway, Bangkok is still fine for me, I will visit again in the future!

    Let’s not talk about that sad thing first and share something interesting about the trip. I took AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur and it’s my first time flying to Don Muang Airport. It was Suvarnabhumi International Airport all the while, but this year, AirAsia had changed to an older airport. No more of luxurious welcome anymore. Don Muang Airport is really old, but at least it’s very clean.

    Without much hesitation, we took the cab, headed to the hotel, checked in and headed to Nana, a place you can find many Arabic restaurant and also tailor shop runs by Indian/Myammar/Banglah, they are just not pure Thai. My brother wanted to custom-made shirt, that’s why we went there. He said tailor is cheap and quality in Thai, I don’t really know but he made shirt at 1500 baht/shirt, what do you think?
    After settling with the tailor, we took the BTS from Nana Station and headed to Asok Station, it’s just a stop away where the theme-shopping mall – Terminal 21 is!

    Hatyai Trip: One-Day Road Trip To Hatyai, Thailand – I went on a one-day trip to Hat Yai, southern Thailand last Sunday. Hat Yai, the southern most part of Thailand is about 2.5 hours from Penang. From Penang to border of Thailand at Bukit Kayu Hitam take about 1.5 hours + and from the custom border to the city of Hat Yai, it takes about an hour.

    Now, almost every year that my family will go to Hat Yai, Thailand because we want to pay a visit to a relative who lives at there. Mom asked me to join them for the road trip, since it’s only a day trip and Thai food is pretty good, why not?

    Hat Yai is a small city that is famous to Malaysian and crowded with Malaysian tourist. It is located at the southern part of Thailand. I don’t really fancy about Hat Yai because it’s not attractive to me. I prefer Bangkok, Phuket, or other Thai’s island. Hat Yai, in my mind is not very authentically Thai, because people at there can actually speaks Mandarin and Hokkien. This is because of the big number of Malaysian Chinese visiting the city and the Thai learned up the language so that they can communicate in business, and food.

    Nevertheless, Hat Yai still have a sense of Thai with its architecture, people and food. However, you can’t really see tall building in the city. There’s not much attractions for you to visit, it’s only eat, shop and pray. Shop at Central departmental store, Lee Garden Plaza, or at the big market for some cheap bargain. Pray at Chinese Buddhist temple, or Thai’s Buddhist temple. As for eat, it’s Thai food, some travel to Songkhla seaside area for seafood, it’s about 40 minutes away from Hat Yai city.

    Checking out the famous shopping market where you can find clothing, bags, accessories, food and more. It’s a girl’s shopping heaven here. Most of the vendor can speaks Mandarin and Hokkien.

    Well, what I did there was visit my relatives, window shopping with mom, brought some Thai’s snack, pray at the Chinese temple, and eat Thai food. In this one-day trip, eat was the most interesting to me. I went to two cool restaurant – Saban-Nga Restaurant and Log Terrace Restaurant. Both serve good Thai food.


    Tuk-tuk is how you get around Hat Yai area with fare as cheap as 20Baht/person.
