    Video: Hiking To Moongate

I went to hiking again last week with Merritt and Kenny this time. And this time, I brought my Panasonic Lumix LX5 with me so I could shoot some video clip. I like kinda addicted with video lately, high def video rocks but then there’s limitation on a mini digital camera cause I can’t manual focus and have shallow depth of field. I hope that this year I can buy myself a video DSLR like the Canon EOS 7D. =D

Well, cut the crap and check out the short clip that I compiled with the Apple iMovie.

And this film trailer style clip. I feel it’s kinda cute. Haha.

  • A Dinner at Ferringhi Garden Restaurant, Batu Ferringhi

A Dinner at Ferringhi Garden Restaurant, Batu Ferringhi

A week ago, I went to dinner with my dearest Hueisean to celebrate our five months together. Ok stop here for the story. Haha. I have been hearing a lot about Ferringhi Garden and finally I got a chance to go check it out. It’s really a nicely decorated restaurant with a lot of greens and lights. It’s really like dining out in the garden but because of hating the mosquito, I picked to dine indoor. The indoor’s atmosphere is still awesome.

The restaurant is very easy to be seen, they have a huge signboard at Batu Ferringhi after Park Royal Hotel. The pricing are quite expensive, starts from RM25++.

First up, they served garlic bread as appertizer and it’s just a normal garlic bread to me.

I ordered an oriental style chicken chop. The sauce is kinda sweet and nice. As for the chicken, it’s just battered and deep fried. Not a bad one.

My friend ordered a fish and chip. Deep fried again but somehow, I feel this is better than the chicken chop. =)

Lastly, I ordered a dessert. It’s a chesse cake with a scoop of strawberry ice cream. Well, this dessert is the best part of the night. The cheese cake has chocolate biscuit at the bottom and the strawberry ice cream is delicious. =D

To conclude about the restaurant, it’s a romantic place to go with your loves one, but the price is the point that is repelling me. However, if there’s birthday or other occassion, I may go back again.

And one more thing, Happy New Year! May your 2011 filled with awesome foods.

  • The RM1 Red Box Karaoke Promotion at 1st Avenue

The RM1 Red Box Karaoke Promotion at 1st Avenue

Chien Chern doing some exercise 2 hours before.

Karaoke have never been so cheap to me except singing it and screaming with my own in my living room. Red Box Karaoke is my favourite k-ing place in town, Penang, Kuala Lumpur and almost anywhere that have the outlet because it’s cheaper than other which have nice low price student package.

Usually, a normal karaoke session will cost me about RM10-RM15 depends on time and day. I would never spend on the most expensive one which is the buffet dinner at RM38++ per person. Wow. But recently, I spent even lower for karaoke which is at only RM1+! Yes, it’s freaking-ONE-ringgit-ONLY!

In conjunction with the latest and 2nd outlet of Red Box outlet in Penang at the new 1st Avenue shopping mall, they came up with a promotion collaborate with the local daily. Guang Ming Daily for a promotion of singing k at only RM1. The best part of all is that you get what you get at that session. For example, if you go at buffet dinner K at RM38++, you pay only RM1+ and you get the buffet dinner too! =)

But, but, but, but, there’s a but, which is that you have to queue up long long as it’s only limit to 50 people per session and the promotion voucher is not available on Guang Ming Daily everyday, you need to spot for it.

    Hueisean. =)

Guess what, I went to this RM1 karaoke twice! =) Once with my dearest Hueisean, and another time with the boys.

The first one was the earliest, brunch K to me and her. We arrived at about 9.30am and I guess we were the earliest, we only get into the queue when there’s people queueing for it and that’s around 9.45am, then we only need to wait 15 minutes for our turn. Yo, this rocks. We had rice for brunch there. =)

The boys. Me, Cheong Kin, Zez Chien, Arron, Zheng Feng and Chien Chern.

    Zez Chien.

    Cheong Kin and Zheng Feng.

    Arron Lim!

    Started queing 1+ hours before.

Luckily we have an iPad to pass time.

The next visit was on Friday night and we went for the midnight karaoke at 12am. The original price is RM28++ and this time was a long queue for me because we started on the line at around 10.30pm and we waited for freaking 1.5 hours. But the wait is kinda worth because I never try midnight K before and I got buffet supper. Oh yeah. And the singing time was very long, from 12am to 4am.

After the buffet supper and singing for like one, two hours, I started to feel sleepy already and didn’t really sing much. Haha. Half awake while sleeping.

Though, everything was fun, going with dearest was sweet and fun, going with the boys was crazy and shouting, Went home at around 4am and the parking ticket was RM5. WOW. So it’s not exactly RM1+ (RM1.10 with tax) karaoke. Haha, but still worth the fun. Yoyoyo.

  • Hiking And Helping Out A Kids Camp

Hiking And Helping Out A Kids Camp

Have not been to hiking for a while already. Recently, Merritt invited me to hiking at Penang Municipal Park, also known as Youth Park for most people, and then I started to go hiking again. Woo. Hiking is fun because can see the green, breath in fresh air and also take a nice view of the city from high.

    Zez Chien

Hock Sheng, the one who sat beside me last year and always slept in class.

    Yiphing, the flat head.

I went to hiking on one Friday with Yiphing and Arron. Luckily I brought along a camera, so I could record down some of our hiking fun in pictures.

So ngam, they wore the same shirt. Arron and Zez Chien.

After some chit chat chit chat with them, we 3 started the hike from the ground to the top which they call it station no 5, Moon Gate. What a lovely name. Haha. There’s actually another hiking trail located in the Botanical Garden which leads up to the top of Penang Hill. I prefer something light and easy though. =)

I can actually see my house from here. LOL.

    This is Station 3.

The hike to Moon Gate or Station No 3 which is the station before Moon Gate, there’s a nice platform where you can take a beautiful view of the city whereby if you take the trail up to Penang Hill, you only get to see Penang city when you are on top.

Hock Sheng and Jing Min, classmates for last year. It’s so nice to see them again. Really very very long time didn’t meet again. I wonder what happened when everyone goes to work few years later. OMG.

There’s actually two way that can lead you up to Moon Gate. One is through the hiking trail in Penang Municipal Park, another one is in front of Botanical Garden, which leads you straight up to Moon Gate without stopping at Station 3. My friends who were with the kids were on the other route.

It had been some times I didn’t come up here already. The really last time was like half year ago. My god, miss the moment so much. If you come hiking in the afternoon or evening, there’s nice free food like fried bee hoon can eat. =) Cooked by some frequent hikers.

At the same time, my high school friends was bringing a bunch of kids from a camp to go hiking too. They were the helper for the camp and I automatically joined them and helped them out.

Yong Chieh, basically most of them were my classmate during Form 5 last year. I miss my high school life, serious, all the shouting and not doing homework and talking about girls. Ah.

Jin Sheng, always call him Da Ge which means big brother.

We were up there early so we sit down and chit chat again while waiting for the little children to come up. My friend, Jing Min had a pack of food, he left it on the table and came to talk with us, a minute later, it’s gone and it’s seen snatched by a naughty monkey up there. So be careful with you food, keep it hidden else they will come snatching for you. They become notorious when there’s little people at there.

    A
h Geog. Geoffrey who now has a girlfriend already. What’s-her-name-again? Sorry. =(

Wei Huai with one of the girl’s barbie doll. There’s one funny kid who brought a dog up, and in fact it’s a toy dog and he said want to bring the dog up and look around. Haha.

Morning stretching and exercise. =) Good for health. Don’t sit so much in front of the computer or else you will have big ass like me. Haha.

    Yiphing with the barbie now.

Just join the fun with them, chit chat, talk jokes with the little kids and I helped them to take group photographs. It was fun because the kids were so cute, but some very playful. Haha. Most of the kids were banana, so they don’t really speak Mandarin. Ahhhh, I strongly recommend you send your children to learn Mandarin, dear parents. No why, it’s just a must. =)

    Ernie in the middle.

Jia Ying here, my primary school friend.

    Andy, the kapster in school.

Okok, you are funny, a bit. HAHA, and you successfully caught my attention.

    Yong Chieh.

    Zhao Qin.

Big big group photo. Although I am not really an official helper, but I still get to take a group photo with them. Haha. Spot for me.

You are suppose to see Joanne, my primary school mate in the photo but she was busy making a stubborn boy look at the camera, and still failed in the end. Really stubborn. Then you see that Hock Sheng again. =)

Due to time problem, I didn’t join my friend to go down the hill together, instead, I went down with Yiphing and Arron again and we went for brunch. And the afternoon was a sleeping afternoon for me because the midnight of the day was the RM1 karaoke with the guy. Haha.

    Woo. Fun.

  • A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

    Dark dark sky.

After karaoke for RM1 at Red Box with dearest Hueisean, we went to watch Rapunzel at Prangin Mall, then we were out of the mall. I didn’t want to go back home, so I drove to Armenian Street to take a walk. Actually, my intention was just to check out where is the many-people-talkabout’s Amelie’s Cafe is located at.

Old hair cut. The lady owner don’t allow me to take photos. Ish.

    Dearest Huei Sean. =D

Don’t you think the pre-war building are pretty?

Armenian Street is a short street full with pre-war buildings and very heritage looking. The well-known symbol to me are the Chinese temple and Edelwiss Swiss Restaurant.

    Lodging House. Hotel? Haha.

Lovely red. =) Original beaded shoes.

Only until recently, I read many blogs and found out the existing of Amelie’s Cafe. A very little cafe on the shophouses and with a very vintage and heritage design. Really like it.

I just passed by the place, and walked for a while because it was drizzling and I had my lunch not long ago only.

Nice camera man. I want all of these!

Then I visited an antique museum shop. Inside has many antiques from the olden days and I felt they are pretty cool.

There’s a French woman chatting out there and selling fruit juices and have some French croissant for sale. Unfortunately, I was not hungry. So I just took a walk in there, after that we hopped into our car and it started to rain heavily.

    Beautiful trishaw.

    Home we went.

  • Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

When I was back to Penang few weeks ago, I rushed to check out Straits Quay at Sri Tanjung Pinang, a reclaimed land somewhere between Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong, it’s a new area on the island and it’s the latest seafront hangout place in Penang. Yo. A combination of residences and commercial place, this place is cool and I am so proud of being a Penangite.

The place is very nice, by the sea and it’s a little mall with seafront promenade, having cafe, bistro, restaurants and some shoplots. Unfortunately, not all the shops are opened, it’s only part of it which make it kinda quiet at the moment.

And the best part is the seafront view. There’s one place where you can overlook the Gurney Drive and the coastal of Penang, and it looks a bit like Victoria Harbour or Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong just that we don’t have high skyscrapers and beautiful expensive light shows.

Although there’s nothing much there, crowds started flowing in slowly. There’s a fireworks display and Christmas countdown celebration at here too.

Still looking forward to more shops opening at there and some great development of Penang island. Yo.

  • Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice in Penang Pulau Tikus

Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice in Penang Pulau Tikus

Kampar is a little town in Perak and it’s famous for UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) but I never know what food they are famous of. Haha. Recently, I went to a coffee house at Pulau Tikus, near to the market there and found out a Claypot Chicken Rice from Kampar. It’s featured on the Chinese newspaper according to mom and I ordered a set for 2 for lunch.

It came in a big pot. A nice egg is placed on top of the rice and it’s cooked with the heat from the very hot claypot rice. We have to mix it with the rice before taking out to eat. Well, it’s not a bad one but with extra lap cheong (Chinese sausage) then I think it would be nice.

Do go and check it out if you are a claypot chicken rice fan. =)

  • Nice 滑蛋河 Wat Tan Hor In Penang for Dinner

Nice 滑蛋河 Wat Tan Hor In Penang for Dinner

滑蛋河 also pronounced as Wat Tan Hor in Cantonese, mostly known to KL people and here in Penang they called it Char Hor Fun with waterish egg sauce. Some like hor fun in dry state, some like it wet a bit, some like it with extra egg and waterish. I like the one with extra egg and waterish and it’s yummy! I always eat this dish when I am in KL.

    P1030296

Recently, I found a place that sells nice Wat Tan Hor in Penang and that is somewhere on Cintra Street, at the intersection of Kampung Malabar in town.

    P1030297

    P1030293

Located on a corner unit of a row of shop houses on Cintra Street. They sell not only Wat Tan Hor but various fried hor fun and bee hoon.

    P1030295

If to compare with what I had before in KL, KL still have a better one but this could be one of the best in Penang already. =) What do you think?

  • First Day To Watch 3D At W Cinemax At Island Plaza

First Day To Watch 3D At W Cinemax At Island Plaza

Hohoho, Penang island now have a new cineplex at Island Plaza, which add into the family of Golden Screen Cinema at Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall, Cathay Cineplex at Prangin Mall and soon to open Tanjung Golden Village at First Avenue.

Last time, there’s actually a Mega Pavilion cineplex at Island Plaza but closed down after few years and few years later, the cinema business at there is back and I have a new place to go.

What’s so special about this W Cinemax is that it shows 3D movie mostly and only one or two normal film.

So I came back last Thursday, it’s officially opened on Thursday 4/11/2010 and you know I like new stuff and just nice that I was back home, I went there with my girlfriend to catch up a old 3D film, The Child Eye.

There are only 3 cinema hall and very cute thing is they named it as X, Y, Z instead of the 1, 2, 3, 4. Since it’s promotion, the ticket is only RM10 and it’s very cheap for a 3D film when compare to GSC or TGV. I have no idea what’s the original ticket rate though, hopefully it’s cheap.

    Hueisean. =)

    W, X, Y, Z! =D Have you been there already?

  • 18 Birthday to Batu Ferringhi and Hard Rock Penang During Midnight

18 Birthday to Batu Ferringhi and Hard Rock Penang During Midnight

I am talking about my birthday again. Right after having dinner at JF Western Food on my birthday, on 16th July on Friday night, we went to sit car and went around the city. It a typical night with the mind of don’t know where to go, no point of destination. We went to meet at Boo Teik house and hopped on to his Mercedes Benz and he drove us here and there. Pointless, just crapping and enjoying the beautiful city of Penang.

We went to Inti Internation College’s hostel to see Jacqueline. a friend of my good friend Chien Chern. Just to say hi and we drove off away.

Then we went downtown for a round and in the end, no idea why, and we went to Batu Ferringhi. WIthout any reason again, we went to the closed down Mutiara Hotel just for a stop, inhale some fresh air as we were so so so full after the meal at the western food there. We did not drink but we look as if we were drunk because too full, too tired, too uncomfortable and too sleepy, but we still didn’t want to go home yet.

We had a stupid plan which was going into Mutiara Hotel but unfortunately there’s security guard taking care of the abandoned hotel. Still no idea what this hotel is gonna be, no renovation work or plan is going on. It was one of the 5 stars hotel in Penang. Pretty cool but now it’s down, no idea why.

Zheng Feng and Zez Chien were not feeling so well because of car sickness along the Batu Feringghi winding road and ate too much. After getting some fresh air, they felt better and finally we decided to go home.

But before dropping me back home, we went to Hard Rock Hotel to use the toilet, it was 2am at that time and there’s no more live band. Lobby was pretty quiet. Everyone was so ready to sleep already.

Had some toilet business then we were all off. That’s it, that’s how I celebrated or how I passed by birthday. Tired, fun, happy, cool, miss. Unfortunately some friend couldn’t join me but thank you all for your wish. This year I spent most time replying Facebook wishes. I got over 200 from Facebook and I replied every single of it. Tired tired. Haha. Happy birthday to you. =D
