Hot Day At Campbell Street, Penang

#1: Bicycle road guide on the road of Campbell Street.

Hot Day At Campbell Street, Penang – I think developer or the state government should revamp the Campbell Street to become a happening shopping street like the Hong Kong’s Sai Yeung Choi St, Malacca’s Jonker Walk or Guangzhou’s Beijing Road, or even something like the Kuala Lumpur’s Petaling Street. This street has a great potential of turning into a good hangout spots in Penang as there are already good pavements, nice road and colonial style shop houses.

#2: The coin operated parking meter. You know in Hong Kong, they have a similar parking meter, but then it’s not coin operated, instead you pay with their “Touch N’ Go”, the Octopus Card.

#4: The famous old Chinese restaurant – Tho Yuen on the right. Old, yet still many come to visit the restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

The street is full of history and culture, yet it doesn’t has the glory as it had back then. The things that bring the people onto the street are a few of the old restaurants and the nearby Chowrasta Market. The shop houses are occupied by many boring wholesale shop right now.

#5: Signboard of a tea shop.

#6: A new boutique hotel turned from a typical 3 floor colonial style heritage shophouses – Campbell Hotel.

I feel it’s a waste that this beautiful street doesn’t shows it glory and bring tourists and locals onto it.

#8: Locals shop at some of the store on Campbell Street.

#9: The five foot path a.k.a. walkway outside the old shops.

#10. Construction work going on in town.

Hopefully this street will wake up and become a hot and awesome spot in Penang one day from day to night. Another thing, if you are a tourist, you must not miss Campbell Street in your visiting list too. =)

#1: Roadside car park always get full because of cheap parking rate at RM0.30 per half hour.

Driving Through Jalan Pasar, Pulau Tikus – Jalan Pasar is where the Pulau Tikus Wet Market is and it’s get crowded and happenings in the morning. This post showcase a few photos taken a few days back when driving pass this road.

#2: Fruit seller by  the roadside working on his fruits. An apple a day, keeps the doctors away.

    Untitled
#3: Roadside car park fee collector from the local municipal council. I think they should implement some sort of electronic payment system because at some times, you will not be able to find the fee collector to pay for your parking and that’s where you get trouble.

    Untitled
#4: Grandparents carrying grandson to go shopping at the morning market. The boutiques near the market do have good business.

Friday Afternoon On Penang Bridge – I am not a frequent user of the Penang Bridge which connects the Penang Island and the mainland – Seberang Perai (or less known as Province Wellesley). Have been away to study in Klang Valley, only now I realised that the traffic congestion in Penang is getting as worst as like in Kuala Lumpur, Klang Valley.

    Untitled
    #2. Boring weather.

    Untitled
#3. Slow moving at entrance road of the bridge.

Penang Bridge get congested everyday in the morning and during 5pm-7pm where workers are going back home to the mainland, it gets even more congested on Friday with the additional of students and people who are from the mainland.

    Untitled
#4. Soon, when The Light, the new town in Penang is open, more and more people will come to Penang.

Yesterday was just a typical Friday to me, but the traffic get slowed, not congested yet at about 5pm. Travel time extend 9 minutes to 20 minutes from the normal 11 minutes on the bridge and the traffic started to build up by then.

    Untitled
    #5.

I’ve heard that it takes an hour to pass through the bridge during the peak hour. Hopefully the new Penang Bridge link 2 opening next year will solve part of the congestion and I truly support the build of the 3rd link which is a sea tunnel conecting Gurney Drive and Butterworth. Nevertheless, the state government must look into public transportation system too to reduce the vehicles on the road.

Drainage Upgrading And Widening In George Town, Penang

Drainage Upgrading And Widening In George Town, Penang

Drainage Upgrading And Widening In George Town, Penang – If you are driving or walking around town, you will see many of this digging and constructing work going around by the roadside. It’s the upgrading work of the drainage by widening it for a better flood control in the city.

Screen Shot 2011-12-03 at 10.33.45 AM

I don’t know why some of the NGOs (Non-governmental organisations) are so stubborn and troublesome. They complain that the this upgrading work by the Penang state government should not be done as the drains were part of Penang’s heritage.

    Untitled

Funny right? It’s very ridiculous and since when the UNESCO classifies the drain as part of the heritage element list? Come on, it’s just a drain. If there’s flood, who’s gonna blame? Some, I mean some, NGOs is some times No Brain Organizations, their jobs is just to complain, without looking into the matter seriously.

Desserts At Snowman Tang Bo Fu, Pulau Tikus – When you think of stressed, try reverse the alphabet and you will get D-E-S-S-E-R-T-S, yes, it’s desserts! Everyone does has a sweet tooth which has a strong interest towards desserts and sweet thing. It basically just put a smile on someone’s face.

Snowman Tang Bo Fu is a desserts house that serve Hong Kong desserts and was originally from Raja Uda, Butterworth. Now, they have expanded their outlet to Penang Island, located on the busy neighbourhood of Rat Island – Pulau Tikus.

    #2

I went there on a fine afternoon with my brother and his friend to enjoy some icy cold desserts as a getaway from the hot and humid weather of Penang. The interior of the place is quite similar with the on in Raja Uda, it’s smaller, yet still able to house a mini band stage and also a sofa for better chill out experience.

    #3. Wifi is available too!

Tang Bo Fu (mandarin) or Tong Pak Fu (cantonese) was a Chinese scholar, painter, calligrapher and poet of the Ming Dynasty, who basically is a famous Chinese from the ancient time. Now the name is used as the restaurant name which the word Tang, is changed into another Chinese word which means sweet.

    #4.

I ordered myself one of the top 10, icy Honeydew Sago (RM5.80). The blended ice does really contain the taste of the honeydew and it’s accompany by healthy and cold honeydew fruit cutlet as well as the sago filling. It’s a simple desserts, yet, it’s sweetened the mouth and mind.

    #5.

Next up is a Soya Milk With Sesame Paste Sea Coconut (RM7.80). A mixture of the sesame paste into the blended ice and soya milk turns a special combination into something delightful. The presence of sea coconut keeps the mouth busy with crunching the healthy fruit.

    #6.

This is Mango Toufa with New Zealand Natural Ice Cream plus Mango cutlet (RM12.80). The toufa is very smooth and it taste like pudding but it’s more fragile then pudding. It break and explode once you place in the mouth. Somehow, the greentea ice cream felt weird in the desserts bowl.

    #7.

    #8.

We also ordered a finger food to accompany our desserts afternoon. The fried wantan was mouth watering and the skin was also very crunchy. The meat filling tasted a bit salty though.

Overall, the pricing at Tang Bo Fu is rather above average Penang’s desserts price. The desserts are nice, just doesn’t really satisfied with the pricing. Kuala Lumpur’s KTZ has a better pricing food and more choices.

  • Lee Sinje In Penang Tourism TVC (Television Commercial)

Lee Sinje In Penang Tourism TVC (Television Commercial) – Do you know that the famous Malaysian actress who starred in various Chinese film e.g. The Eyes, Ice Kacang Puppy Love is now the tourism ambassador of Penang?

There’ a 30second TVC on Penang tourism featuring her and just released on YouTube lately. I have no idea where the TVC will be air but it’s just feel so cool and proud of being a Penangite. One more thing, Penang is the only state in Malaysia that has its own tourism promo video. Good job to the Penang State Tourism Development and Culture unit.

  • 猪肠粥 Pork Intestine Porridge At Lebuh Cintra

猪肠粥 Pork Intestine Porridge At Lebuh Cintra

猪肠粥 Pork Intestine Porridge At Lebuh Cintra – Are you fan of Pork Intestine Porridge? I am not. Haha, but I do eat it sometimes, when I feel bored about the food I have been eating. Well, my recent Pork Intestine Porridge was at a old-school coffee shop located in George Town, on Lebuh Cintra. This is quite well-known to the older generation of the Chinese community in Penang as it’d been there for several decades. The dish is prepared on a classic cart/stall.

A look into the interior brings you back to the olden days of Penang where people sip Chinese coffee and read newspaper in here. It brings out a sense of old school with the usage of kopitiam-style furniture. In the day, the Pork Intestine Porridge stall operates, but at night, another porridge stall takes over the place, it sells chicken and fish porridge at night.

A bowl of Pork Intestine Porridge cost RM4.50 for a regular bowl size and RM5 for large bowl size. The price is reasonable given that the bowl of porridge contain many delicious pork delicacies in it. It tasted salty, somehow OK-good in my opinion because I am not a Pork Intestine-Person. If you ask me will I visit it again, I would say, yes I will. =D

Hueisean At Chew Jetty – Well, as you know I went to Chew Jetty few weeks back and I brought my dearest, Hueisean along because she’d never been there before. I’ve got my Canon 60D, and the Sigma 30mm f1.4 with me, so I started taking photos of her. Here are some shots of her, still learning and brushing up my skill. C&C are very welcome.

I need to learn more on editing skill. My post-process skill really lousy because I don’t really know how to adjust the color and stuff. Haha. I prefer original shot, or perhaps using film camera so there’s no need of post-process. =D

  • A Walk At Chew Jetty

    #1. The Chew Jetty Kongsi.

A Walk At Chew Jetty – Few weeks back, I went to the Chew Jetty with dearest, Hueisean. I like the place, I have been there for quite a few times and it just doesn’t feel bored every time I visit it because the little fishing village-like houses give a sense of peacefulness, a sense of calmness, it’s so near to town, yet it’s just relaxing, maybe because its location of by the sea.

#2. It’s written Chew Jetty in Mandarin – read as Zhou Qiao.

    #4. Lamp post.

Chew Jetty or also known as Clan Jetty is a famous tourist spot in Penang, in the heart of the George Town Unesco World Heritage Site. Clan Jetty is located at Weld Quay, it consist of 8 jetties which are named after the surnames of the Chinese. Why people like to call Chew Jetty more is because it has the most number of “Chew” family living at there. The jetty is actually the villages of the Chinese immigrant when the first came to Penang in the 18th century.

It’d now become a tourist spot, and also photographer’s favourite spot for photoshooting. Well, it’s not a surprise that there’s still people living at there, and some still goes out fishing by their private boat.

#11. Saw some kids fishing at the jetty.

#12. So we went to check it out.

#13.His name is Jason and his fishing string got stuck at the boat and we went to help. HAHA.

    #14

The weather was pretty good that day, although it was sunny but occasionally sea breeze blew over my face which makes touring the place and taking photos nice.

    #15.

It was a quiet afternoon, there’s not much people around in their home. There’s some other visitors like us too.

    #17.
    Peace.

I feel the place is full of culture. One very cool thing is that different jetties has different house layout. It’s because that different clan from China last time has their very own clan living culture.

    #18.

    #19.

The Chew Jetty is very happening and crowded during the Thni Kong Festival during Chinese New Year, as well as the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. You will not want to miss out this place if you happen to be in Penang, during or not during the two festivals.
