  • Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road

Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road

Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road – I’ve so many food to blog about and now I’ve the time to write them up all on my blog. Some are dated back to last year. Haha. Forget about the date, forget about time, let’s indulge with some food pr0n, shall we?

In the finally weeks of December 2011, I went to meet up a good friend, Yiphing, together with other buddies for lunch at Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road. It’d been some times that we did not come out, sit down and eat. Everyone has their own business now.

Yiphing suggested Salsas Restaurant for our meet up lunch as she’s working as an intern at that area. I guess this was my second time eating out at Salsas Restaurant as the first time was long ago when Salsas was still at Kelawai Road.

Salsas Restaurant serves western food and they have a variety of set meal to pick for lunch. The price of set lunch starts from RM13.90+. Well, I picked a set meal that costs RM15.50+ and that’s a Baked Penne Pasta as a main course.

Each set meal comes with a starter of soup or salad, a main course, a desserts and a drinks.

    This is Yiphing.

Starter – Mushroom Soup with Toasted Bun.

    Starter 2 – Healthy Salad.

Main Course – Baked Penne Pasta in cream sauce with shredded chicken ham, mushroom and cheese.

Main course 2 – Grilled chicken breast with mushroom cream, served with fresh vegetables and potatoes.

Desserts – Vanilla ice cream and a piece of cake.

Overall, I find the food at there is not bad and kinda affordable. The place is crowded with office workers around that area during lunch. The desserts was just normal in my opinion.

Salsas Restaurant is located in Continental Hotel.

  • Big Ben Breakfast, Waterfall Road

    Big Ben Breakfast, Waterfall Road

Big Ben Breakfast, Waterfall Road – Big Ben Breakfast is a western breakfast corner located on Waterfall Road, near to Botanical Garden. It’s among the fruit stall where people park their car when they go to Botanical Garden. Big Ben Breakfast offers healthy western breakfast set like sunny egg, sausage, bacon, toast and more.

I find it’s kinda special because there’s a specialized stall that sells only western breakfast and in a healthy way. As eating such breakfast after a jog or hike at Botanical Garden provides nutrient f0r you. It opens from morning till evening daily except Tuesday.

You can pick various type of combination to create your own breakfast set. The Big Ben Breakfast set costs RM7.50 with toast, bacon, sausage, egg, red bean, ham and a tomato. The way the food are cooked are very healthy as it has less oil.

  • Meet Fresh Taiwanese Desserts At Gurney Paragon

Meet Fresh Taiwanese Desserts At Gurney Paragon

Meet Fresh Taiwanese Desserts At Gurney Paragon – Who say Penang doesn’t have Snowflakes? Ya, Penang really doesn’t have Snowflakes, but then Penang has Meet Fresh & Blackball Taiwanese Desserts. Forget about Snowflakes already, because I am now in love with Meet Fresh Taiwanese Desserts at Gurney Paragon.

Now, Penang people has no need to jealous of people eating Snowflakes in Klang Valley, because you can head to Gurney Paragon and Gurney Plaza for Meet Fresh. Opened about 2 months ago, Meet Fresh is currently my favourite and the location of the outlet is perfect because it’s near to my place. Haha.

Meet Fresh serves a variety of Taiwanese desserts like grass jelly with pearl, red bean, and more. Besides, they also serve beverage and some little snack food which is pretty cool.

Same like Snowflakes, you get a vibrating device which will vibrate when your desserts are ready.

Milk for your Signature Herb Jelly. I like this.

    Signature Herb Jelly – Cold.

My current favourite Meet Fresh’s desserts is the Signature Herb Jelly Cold (RM6.90). The taro balls are so chewy and there’s many pearl. Adding in a small cup of milk make the desserts taste sweet and superb. If you have a member card (RM10/signup), you can get a 10% off your total price. You can also collect 10 stamps and get a free desserts too.

Beancurd Toufu Fa With Red Bean.

Signature Herb Jelly – HOT. The grass jelly is too waterish which I don’t like but the taro balls are chewy enough and I like. =D

I guess I’m gonna try other thing from their menu, any recommendation? I just realised that Gurney Plaza also has an outlet on the 3rd floor, so those who are lazy to walk to Gurney Paragon can straight eat at Gurney Plaza.

  • Chicken Cordon Bleu At Max Deli Western Food

Chicken Cordon Bleu At Max Deli Western Food

Chicken Cordon Bleu At Max Deli Western Food – Max Deli Western Food is a food stall located in food court of Tanjung Bungah area, just right opposite of The Cove Condominium. They actually serve affordable Malaysian-style western food and I found it kinda good.

I don’t really have a favourite western food corner in Penang now, last time I used to like James Foo’s Western Food at Fettes Park, but after upgrading to a better outlet, there have always been crowded and taste wise is not as good as before. It doesn’t feel comfortable eating at there because there’s always very many people. The one at Mount Erskine is not bad too.

Back to this Max Deli, I find its Chicken Cordon Bleu is not bad, crunchy enough with thick filling of cheese and sausage. Presentation might not be good but it costs only RM9 per plate.

  • Teochew Porridge Lunch At Lebuh Presgrave (Sa Tiao Lor)

Teochew Porridge Lunch At Lebuh Presgrave (Sa Tiao Lor)

Teochew Porridge Lunch At Lebuh Presgrave (Sa Tiao Lor) – When we talk about Teochew Porridge, it’s actually white waterish porridge with a few small dishes that to be eat with the porridge. This is the Teochew-style. Cantonese-style is porridge that has taste and cook with pork or chicken.

Many people like Teochew Porridge because it’s refreshing, it’s affordable and you can pick a variety of dishes. It’s just like eating mixed/economy rice, just that you don’t eat with rice but with white porridge.

At Presgrave Street (Lebuh Presgrave), also known as Sa Tiao Lor to the local, there’s a kopitiam that has a Teochew Porridge stall that operates throughout noon to the afternoon. I went to try out last week and it’s pretty good. There’s a variety of dishes for you to choose like salted egg, mui choi, fried fish, omelet, vegetable and more. What I like is the porridge which is watery and the rice is soft.

Check out the map for the location. It’s located in a coffee shop at the corner of Presgrave Street. At night, the coffee shop sells Hokkien Mee and Char Koay Teow.

  • Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice

Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice

Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice – One of my favourite Hainanese chicken rice stall in Penang is this Wen Chang Chicken Rice that’s located in the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town on Cintra Street. It had over decade of history and it serves authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice. Wen Chang is actually a district in Hainan, China. The owner of the restaurant is also a Hainanese.

Dad and I always dine at there during lunch time. Wen Chang Chicken Rice is also very famous as it has won before in a chicken rice competition. What I like about Wen Chang is the rice and the white steam chicken which is so tender and smooth.

One thing that must not be missed at the Wen Chang Chicken Rice is the Hainanese Kopi-Peng (Ice Coffee) which has a good blend of condensed milk and local coffee powder.

You can try out the chicken feet with mushroom in soy sauce too which I think it’s pretty good. But for the Loh Bak, it’s not crunchy enough. Every set of chicken rice comes with a bowl of soup. You can pick between white steamed chicken or roasted chicken.

Fresh Milk Susu Lembu At Line Clear Nasi Kandar

Fresh Milk Susu Lembu At Nasi Kandar Line Clear – Fresh cow milk is susu lembu and susu lembu is fresh cow milk. Got that? On Penang Road, at the famous Line Clear 24-hours Nasi Kandar stall, there’s a nice fresh milk stall. It sells from morning until the night and specialized in – fresh milk.

There’s a few variety of fresh milks you can choose from his menu. Pure hot fresh milk, fresh milk milo, or fresh milk with egg. I’ve tried the pure hot fresh milk which cost RM1.50 for big glass. The fresh milk tasted hot and sweet. It’s good. You should try it out if you are a milk lover.

So after checking out the special Valentine’s Day menu, what do you think? Hahaha. It must be expensive right? Though, you don’t really want to spend your Valentine’s Day with your love one at the hawker stall or fast food corner.

For other alternative, or a cheaper one, you can cook a candle light dinner at home, or visit some other restaurant that offer normal day menu. I kinda dislike when restaurants offer only Valentine’s Day menu during that day, it lessen the choice of ordering other food.

Happy Valentine’s Day. I’ll tell you where I celebrate my V Day few days later. Hehe.

Oishi Frozen Yogurt At 1st Avenue, Penang

Oishi Frozen Yogurt At 1st Avenue, Penang – Frozen yogurt, frozen yogurt. oh, frozen yogurt, they are now like everywhere in Penang. Many new outlets popping out here and there just like the Taiwanese bubble tea and desserts trend. People nowadays enjoy desserts very much.

On the highest floor in 1st Avenue, also known as Cloud 8, located right outside the Tanjung Golden Village Cinema, there locates a very new frozen yogurt kiosk with a very cute theme and name – Oishi Frozen Yogurt. Oishi Frozen Yogurt is the latest F&B outlet in 1st Avenue Mall and has just opened not more than a month.

Oishi Frozen Yogurt At 1st Avenue, Penang

I was very lucky to be invited to join a group of food bloggers to try out their yogurt. “Oishi” actually stands for yummy/delicious in Japanese and the pinkish setting portrays a kawaii cute theme of the mini desserts cafe.

    Untitled

Same as other yogurt shop, the yogurt is priced by the weight of the yogurt itself plus the topping. It costs at 49sen/10gms which is much cheaper than other yogurt shop in town. What’s interesting is that you can pick from more than 18 toppings for yogurt.

    Untitled

As for the yogurt choices, there’s four variety for you to pick from which are Peach, Raspberry, Original Yogurt, and a non-yogurt type, Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream.

    Untitled

After trying 4 of the yogurts, I found out that my 2 favourites are the Peach and Original Yogurt. They are sweet and sour which is just nice. Raspberry was rather sour to me and Belgian Chocolate is just another chocolate ice cream.

Oishi Frozen Yogurt At 1st Avenue, Penang

I get a chance to pick and mix the yogurts with any topping of my choice and the yogurt I took costs about RM12.25 which is rather reasonable with 2 yogurts and many toppings.

Well, do give it a try as I feel that the best part of it is the pricing and the peach yogurt which is just simply yummy.
