  • Famous Super Hokkien Mee Behind Penang Plaza

Famous Super Hokkien Mee Behind Penang Plaza – This Hokkien Prawn Mee is quite famous among Penangite as it’s often known for waiting long to be served and also sold out very early by 9am +++. Super Hokkien Mee is the name of the store, it’s just a gimmick telling you that it’s ‘SUPER’. Haha.

Located behind of Penang Plaza in a coffee shop called One Corner Cafe on Jalan Bawasah, Super Hokkien Mee started selling early in the morning for breakfast. I went there few days ago with my friends to check out how good it was. We ordered at 8.30am and were told that we have to wait until 9am. That’s fine for us.

Famous Super Hokkien Mee Behind Penang Plaza

Pricing was surprisingly higher at RM4.50 per bowl, just like KL-price. You know, you still can find RM2.50/bowl of Hokkien Prawn Noodle at Cecil Street Market. How about the taste? The soup does indeed taste sweeter with a strong aroma of prawn, probably cooked with lots of prawn shell. Tiny prawn slices can be seen in the soup and unfortunately, boiled egg was not present in the soup.

Overall, it tastes good, but somehow might lazy to wait and wake up early for it again. XD Will try another one that sells out early at Pulau Tikus soon.

Nice Hokkien Prawn Mee At Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court – I love Hokkien Prawn Mee, it’s one of the must-eat food in Penang, the prawn taste food is so yummylicious. You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea time or supper.

Nice Hokkien Prawn Mee At Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court
Recently, I found a nice Hokkien Prawn Mee (introduced by Hueisean =D) at the Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court. It’s only RM3.00 per bowl Hokkien Prawn Mee and you will get a lot of ingredient like shrimps, meat, and egg. You can add another 30 cents for an extra egg. What’s so best about this Hokkien Prawn Mee is the soup, filled with strong prawn taste, sweet, and spicy, it’s good.

Compare to the one at Perak Road, I guess both of them has their delicious point, it’s just that you do not have to wait for a long time for this. I had it for breakfast few days ago.

  • Tea Spa Corner At Cherok Tokun Hill, Bukit Mertajam

Tea Spa Corner At Cherok Tokun Hill, Bukit Mertajam

Tea Corner At Tokun Hill, Bukit Mertajam – Enjoying a cup of Chinese tea, biting a yummylicious herbal egg and eating a bowl of Chinese noodle in the forest, listening to the chirping of birds and the melody of insects, it’s just so relaxing. But then, you have to ignore the annoying mosquitoes.

In Bukit Mertajam, there’s a forest reserved + park + hiking trail and that’s Cherok Tokun Hill. It’s a famous spot for the local to do some hiking and at there you can spot a little hut that houses the Tea Spa which serves a little snack food and tea.

I did not go to hiking, but I went to check out the Tea Spa on a lovely afternoon as I was craving for herbal egg char ye dan. Actually I was just thinking on eating the herbal egg, but then since Hueisean and me were there already, might as well order another bowl of Chinese noodle with pork.

The herbal eggs were good and the herbal taste did actually presence in the egg itself. As for the noodle, it’s not my type of noodle, a little bit of spiciness does taste better, somehow, I do not fancy the noodle. The noodle is more like a thick beehoon, if you know what I mean.

Well, it’s a good place to sit in the afternoon, sip some Chinese tea, have a little chat with your friends in the nature. It’s nice to getaway from the polluted city.

I’ve forgotten what cartoon character is this! Anyone can enlighten me? According to the boss, this is to scare away the monkeys at there.

Look! Monkeys are everywhere, luckily I did not park my car at there.

  • Tainan Restaurant at Midlands Park Shopping Centre, 1-Stop

Tainan Restaurant at Midlands Park Shopping Centre, 1-Stop

Midlands Park Shopping Centre or more to known as 1-Stop is a place in Pulau Tikus which was a glory during 199x. However, the crowds get lesser and lesser and there’s not much retail shop except it’s famous for DVDs and computer accessories. People visit there just to eat McDonald’s, KFC or perhaps a short walk by the people who are residing in the Berjaya George Town Hotel just next to it.

My recent visit changed my view on Midlands Park Shopping Centre and found that there’s actually quite a number of F&B outlets serving office workers mostly and the locals.

Well, I am glad to be invited by Chin Wai, the owner of Tainan Restaurant in Midlands Park Centre for a little food testing and sharing session. I am a fan of Taiwanese food especially for those beef noodle, and fried chicken chop and of course bubble tea and when I got the invitation, I was so excited and surprised because I didn’t know there’s actually a Taiwanese restaurant at 1 Stop Midlands Park.

According to Chin Wai, this restaurant has over 10 years of history and features a classic and homey look which he said will be renovate and redesign the place to a more modern look. Even though the place looks classic and homey, there’s still frequent customers who visit the place quite often as some said it gives a sense of home.

So let’s get into some food shall we? =) He served us bubble tea nicely for each of us. It may not be the best bubble tea compare to Chatime, Gong Cha or whatever out there, but still it’s a good bubble tea at a Taiwanese restaurant.

Their food menu normally comes with a soup, beverage and dessert. Here what you see above is Golden Drumstick Rice (RM7.50). A crispy chicken drumstick with rice and minced pork topping and a little vegetable.

If you are a fan of chicken wings not the drumstick, they got the Golden Chicken Wing Rice (RM7) too, actually it comes with rice just but we didn’t want that many rice that day. It’s cheaper than the drumstick by RM0.50 and to me I like the chicken wing more than the drumstick, it’s even crispier and tastier.

Taiwan is always famous for crispy deep fried food. What you are seeing above is the Pork Chop (RM7 with rice) and it’s crispyness makes it tasted good and keep wanting more.

If you fancy something different with a little bit mayonnaise topping and crispyness, the Crispy Nestum Chicken Ball (RM8) is good. The Nestum added a little bit of cereal oats taste, making it feel more than chicken and it’s feel a little bit like chicken nugget, but in an oriental way.

Taiwan is famous for beef noodle. If you go to Taiwan, beef noodle can be seen almost at anywhere. At Tainan Restaurant, they do serve Beef Noodle too. What’s special is the soup which actually more creamy than normal Taiwanese beef noodle. The beef taste is strong and overall it’s OK-good.

I am a fan of Taiwanese sausage because of the tenderness and sweetness in the sausage. It tasted special and they have it too at RM8.50 which comes with rice.

Lastly, check out their Prawn Roll (RM7.50) which stuffed little shrimp in it and have a crispy skin outside. It looks like lobak but actually it’s shrimp. Comes with rice too!

So, here you go, a little intro of a mini Taiwanese restaurant at Midlands Park 1 Stop and you now have another place for lunch and dinner. Cheer~

  • Tomyam Mee At Xiang Xia Fish Head Beehoon, Weld Quay

Tomyam Mee At Xiang Xia Fish Head Beehoon, Weld Quay

    P1060829

The sun was going down on a Saturday evening and my parents brought me to Weld Quay for a dinner. Cruising along the seaside at Weld Quay was nice as it brings us to a friendlier part of Penang with all walks of life. The golden sun was setting and it’s an quiet and yet to be noisy Saturday evening.

    P1060830

We came to this 乡下鱼头米粉 which translated is Xiang Xia Fish Head Bee Hoon (rice noodle). As stated in their name, the famous dish is the fish head bee hoon, but there’s another famous dish and that is the tomyam noodle which I was craving for and I like.

    P1060834

I have never been to this place before but I heard many good comment about it and how spicy the tomyam noodle is. I ordered a bowl which is less spicy and no doubt, it’s really delicious, especially eating with fried fish fillet and maggi noodle. Just one thing, the maggi noodle was too little. Anyway, it’s still yummy.
