Monday SS2 Pasar Malam With Arron Lim

I would like to make this short and sweet because I am super firing right now as I wrote the whole post already but the blogging service didn’t save my stuff and I have to rewrite again. Since I still have many stuff to update, I’ll let the photo speaks can they? =)

I am a pasar malam a.k.a. night market fans, as you know. I visit lots of pasar malam and this pasar malam at SS2, Petaling Jaya is the first pasar malam I visited after I come to KL for studies. KL and PJ are different place at there but to not confuse my reader who are from their lovely place, KL will become the general word of the place I am at.

On a lovely Monday, I went to the night market with my good high school buddy, Arron, who is from Penang also. We went there for dinner, walk walk and also to look for the famous Penang Asam Laksa. Yeah.

Driving from Bandar Sunway to SS2 takes like about 15 minutes provided smooth traffic at Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong. But then looking for a parking at there is haste as we rounded the area for 3 times only can find a parking space by the roadside. A reminder is that keep all valuable thing nicely because you know, there’s all sorts of people. =)

I was surprised to see that there’s pirated DVD vendors at because I don’t normally see them at the night market back in my hometown. And you know I am not a fan of pirated DVD at night market, I prefer… haha, you know… hehe.

Walk around at there and found many special street food like satay, chicken on a stick, mini burger, special taiwanese sausage, lots of bubble tea and more! I super like Taiwanese sausage and bubble tea, wondering when will I get the chance to go to taiwan to try the REAL thing.

One thing want to say is walking at this SS2 pasar malam is a little bit discomfort because the stalls are too closed to each other and the walkway is too narrow as the crowds are huge at there.

The best part of the night was finding the famous Penang Asam Laksa which makes me feel a bit at home at last. The taste is almost different but couldn’t say 100%, but it’s just almost. =) Any recommendation more for night market? Do check out Taman Connaught’s Night Market that I visited too!

  • Cheras Taman Connaught Pasar Malam on Wedesday Night

Cheras Taman Connaught Pasar Malam on Wedesday Night

Pasar malam is night market. I am a pasar malam fan because when I was in Penang, I often go to the pasar malam to look for cheap street food and just walk around for fun among the crowds. It’s nice. After coming to Kuala Lumpur, I haven’t really get to know all the night market. So far, I have been to one at SS2 on Monday and this is another one on Wednesday, the Cheras Taman Connaught pasar malam.

According to my KL friend, this pasar malam is the longest in KL and is about 1.5km long. Wow. This is what it attracts me and I thought there would be selling lots of stuff. Unfortunately, from Sunway to Cheras is like 20 minutes drive away, it’s kinda far.

So on a fine Wednesday night, I decided to make a visit to the night market, navigate through a GPS and a half-local KL people. Haha. Zhi Sheng was the half-local KL people who actually brought me to the wrong road, and turned out I still have to look for Google Maps because Taman Connaught pasar malam POI is not in the GPS list. In the end, we found our way, just navigate to Giant Taman Connaught or UCSI then you can find the pasar malam already.

I was pretty excited when I see the stalls and people flowing here and there. Road was jam and looking for parking was kinda difficult. Try to park at UCSI there and walk to the pasar malam, there’s plenty of parking at UCSI.

We started our journey through the long pasar malam. I was with my classmate Zhi Sheng and my housemate Wei Ding. My classmate girls were there too, just that we went there by two cars. Funny thing was they went out earlier from uni than us but then we arrived earlier. They were lost too.

What’s so fun about pasar malam is that you can buy cheap cheap street food like fish balls, satay and stuff then can eat and shop at the same time. This is really fun. But then keep buying little street food is rather expensive when you total them up. I didn’t care because I don’t always get to go to pasar malam. Surprise to see that the food there are so much different from the pasar malam in Penang.

They love fermented beancurd or simply known as smelly toufu here which something that couldn’t find in Penang. Really smelly.

Tako balls! Not so awesome though.

You can actually see a lot of college students at there because the pasar malam is just beside UCSI university. The place makes me feel lively and a bit like home, just different is that the people here speaks Cantonese instead of Hokkien at home.

We walk walk walk. One different thing again is that they do sell pirated DVD and books at pasar malam which you will not see in the pasar malam in Penang island. In the island only, all the pasar malam don’t sell pirated DVD, which is pretty cool. Haha.

Famous Alisan Taiwanese Chicken Chop, Penang also have.

    This is wonderful.

So have you been wondering what stalls do they have on this very long 1.5km pasar malam? Well, to be honest, most of the stalls are repeating. You will see the same logo, same price, same food every few hundred meters. Really funny. They are just selling the same thing but doubling or trippling their own stall only to make the pasar malam long. Very clever indeed.

Lok lok here is damn expensive man.

Then surprisingly, in the middle of the pasar malam, I met up with the girls, they were coming from the other side and we were walking on the opposite direction. Cool.

I didn’t really eat a proper meal. My dinner was keep buying fish ball, sausage, satay to eat. All the little little food.

The weather was that nice that night. It rained, but we were hot and sweating and thanks to the light rain, cooled us up. However, the rain get bigger later. Haha.

Rain big big and we went home. The pasar malam is real long and hopefully got chance go again but not anytime soon cause go there is money wasting, far and eat a lot. Haha.

  • Batu Ferringhi Night Market and Hard Rock Hotel with Chien Chern

Batu Ferringhi Night Market and Hard Rock Hotel with Chien Chern

After going to the Region 1 Leo Club farewell thingy by the beach, I found out it’s still early and I have a feeling of going to Batu Ferringhi. I have no idea why I like Batu Ferringhi so much lately. Then I realised Chien Chern lived in Batu Ferringhi so I called him out for a walk.

Never knew that it’s so jam on a Saturday night, traffic was super duper slow, I guess it’s because of the Sixty9ine Mansion. So if you want to go there on a Saturday night, go at 9pm and slowly jam until 10pm when you will reach there.

I have not go to the night market at Batu Ferringhi for quite a long time although it’s like 15 minutes drive from my house only. Now all who go there are like tourists from the Middle East, even the worker who operate the stalls are not locals. Stuff selling there are always the expected fake LV, Gucci, Burberry and more which I didn’t even bother to take a look. Specs and DVDs are good buy at there IMO. Hehe.

Was thinking of going into Sixty9ine to take a look but it was so freaking full and crowded and have to wait. So we decided to go another place and that’s one of my favourite too, Hard Rock Hotel! Rocks.

There’s many of don’t know where from, Indonesian Malay I assumed and a Malay live band on the hotel lobby. Pretty cool.

    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnoYNt-f2UE&w=640&h=505]

One of the song they sang was Hijau, which reminded me about NS life. I guess those who have been to NS will know about this song.

    LOL. Lame and vain.

  • Last Wednesday at Farlim Pasar Malam

Last Wednesday at Farlim Pasar Malam

It’s my first pasar malam visit after I came back from my NS camp, it had been quite a while that I didn’t go to pasar malam already and I kinda miss the days. Mom says pasar malam is for girls and I don’t agree, I like to walk around at happenings and crowded place and look for cheap street food, eat while window shopping, and people observing, it’s fun! =D

    IMG_0596 by nicholaschan.

It was Wednesday and I was with all boys, Wei Chung, Yong Chieh, Arron, Chien Chern and Chin Tatt. We ate at Kutabali Hawker Center then we drove Farlim’s pasar malam (a.k.a. night market) which is just nearby.

    IMG_0581 by nicholaschan.

It’s quite a crowded night at the pasar malam, people was everywhere, young and old.

    IMG_0584 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0582 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0583 by nicholaschan.

I found out that I’ve nothing to buy, it’s just walking here and there around the market, looking around, mostly windows shopping. If you do realized, stuff there are kinda repetitive, you will see the stores selling the same thing but different man standing. Wei Chung saw the UV writing board and thought it was cool, but for me, I think it’s just normal only, and it’s all Chinese product. I prefer the  board to be plain and simple, and with a better framing perhaps.

Pasar malam sells a lot of t-shirts and lala stuff. I don’t know want how to explain the word “lala”, it refers to teen boy and girl who dress up very lala, HAHA, in other words, is that they (lala) dress up a bit too over with a mixture of Japanese and Taiwan fashion, with high stocking, blink blink dress and so on.

    IMG_0606 by nicholaschan.

Buying clothing at pasar malam is cheap, though you don’t get a fitting room. It’s either put the clothes on top of what you are wearing and fit it, or you buy it home and find it not fit, you can take back to exchange. That’s the interesting part. ^.^ The price is low too, when compare to same stuff at place like Prangin Mall in Penang or Sungai Wang in Kuala Lumpur, probably because there’s no rental here.

Stuff here are normal and cheap stuff, didn’t see pro stuff yet. I wanted to look for some AV cable (Toslink) and protective for my Nexus One but I found nothing.

  • Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Hat Yai Travel: Hat Yai At Night, Before My Camera Went Dead

Yes, you read me. My camera, Canon 400D went dead on the first night in Hat Yai and which made me feel sad and I couldn’t shoot for the second day.

Oh my god. Luckily, I at least got photos on the first day so I could write it up here. To me, traveling without a camera is not call traveling already, I can’t live without a camera when traveling, I want to capture every moment of it because I don’t know whether I will be going there again or not.

Cut the crap and here comes the photos!

    IMG_3848 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3850 by nicholaschan.

During the evening, I went to meet up a relatives who live in Hat Yai. We call him Wen Shok, I don’t know how to relate him to me, I only know he is close to my grandma. He brought us to see his new home in Hat Yai. It’s a 3 storey shop house.

    IMG_3846 by nicholaschan.

And at there, I also met his very cute grandson, who can listens to Mandarin more than Thai. Cool right? I didn’t get his name though. Not really interested in new home and my phone GPS had some problem locating my location and I was bored at time. No choice, have to follow my parents.

    IMG_3853 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3855 by nicholaschan.

Then we were brought to a very cool Thai restaurant near the university area. They have a very nice garden and the interior has a cottage-liked look. Like.

    IMG_3859 by nicholaschan.
    Gas station. Woo!

    IMG_3861 by nicholaschan.

After dinner, we went back to our hotel area. Stalls were all set up by the road side and it’s a shopping street again and, Thai-style night street shopping, it’s just the same at every where in Thailand, Phuket, Bangkok. So, it’s nothing special to me already.

    IMG_3863 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3865 by nicholaschan.

Quite many people went shopping too. I heard from the talking, most speaks Mandarin and Hokkien, so I assumed they were tourists who were from somewhere near my place. =D Another interesting thing is that the Thai at there speaks Mandarin too! We don’t need to speak English or point this and that anymore. Though, I don’t really like this because I like pointing this and that, it’s more challenging. Hehe.

    IMG_3873 by nicholaschan.

Most stuff by the street were clothes and shoes. Nothing much already.

    IMG_3874 by nicholaschan.
    Boy sleeping while mom’s working.

    IMG_3879 by nicholaschan.
    Mango?

    IMG_3882 by nicholaschan.

Then food is at another corner.

    IMG_3883 by nicholaschan.
Famous fish tank/aquarium in Hat Yai. O.O

    IMG_3886 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3890 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3893 by nicholaschan.

There’s 3 of us, me, dad and mom and the only person who was really shopping was mom only. Me and dad, two were just like bodyguard, following here and there.

    IMG_3901 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_3897 by nicholaschan.

The not-boring part was the foot and neck massage. Really relaxing and it’s one hour at there. The person do my foot, then a little bit of my hand and my neck too! Now I know why dad so like Thai massage.

    IMG_3905 by nicholaschan.

After a massage would be some supper. It’s 11pm and 12am Malaysian time already, no wonder I felt sleepy a little bit at that moment.

Was planning to go to a live band bistro after supper but sadly, the bistro was full and we were not allow to go in, so in the end went back to hotel and at the same time, my camera went dead. Shit man!

  • That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

That Day At Farlim Pasar Malam Saw This Sarawak Guy

    IMG_4370 by nicholaschan.

I went shopping at Farlim’s weekly night market last week with mom. It’s so crowded, so dusty because of the sand, and so many things to see but I have got nothing to buy. Mom bought a lot of clothes but not me, I saw some cool stuff too, but I prefer buying it in the mall.

    IMG_4387 by nicholaschan.

While I was accompanying mom shopping, I hear people talking through the microphone, in Hokkien. It sounded like there’s street show going on, so curiosity, I went to check it out.

    IMG_4384 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4378 by nicholaschan.

I then saw many people gather around and see a guy talking stuff and stories.

    IMG_4386 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_4382 by nicholaschan.

This guy claimed he came from Sarawak and he talked really a lot lot lot. He said there will be something special to be shown after his talking, I was there waiting and waiting until I got inpatient and walked away. Haha, really can’t wait for him to finish his talking, because he just has got too many things to talkabout.

Till then, I don’t really know what he sells, I think is some sort of Sarawak herbs medicine.

  • Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

Christmas 09 at Jelutong Night Market

I know it’s already 2010 but I still have so many things to share with you guys in 2009 man. Back to Christmas Day 09, it’s pretty lame and spontaneous day, but yet fun and interesting. No sense of direction and plans to go and ended up at a night market at night.

I thought after going to Nautilus Bay, Gertak Sanggul, dropped Chaiwei home then I will be home, only then I realized that that day was Friday and there’s night market on every Friday night, so last minute decided to go take a tour and dinner at the night market.

    IMG_2171 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2172 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2173 by nicholaschan.

We were there early, so we went to Yiphing‘s place for a sit first before the night falls and the night market starts. Talked and prank called Chien Chern before going to the night market, pretty lame.

    IMG_2174 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2175 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2177 by nicholaschan.

It’s very happenings, very crowded on a Christmas night, but then the walk way is very narrow and I don’t like. Feels like pushing all the way and keep moving on, hard to stop by and see something. Perhaps Farlim’s night market is funner, but then I still like happening place.

    IMG_2178 by nicholaschan.

It’s always the same thing, clothing, junk food, hawker food, accessories but no pirated DVDs.

    IMG_2179 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2182 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2190 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_2191 by nicholaschan.

Met Andy and Ammerlynn at the night market, they joined us for Hokkien noodle and Char Koay Kak which I think they’re so-so only, I know better one at other place.

    IMG_2195 by nicholaschan.

Then try to camwhore a bit but always failed and took a lot of shot. The whole night street, it’s just keep flashing, flashing and flashing, everyone was like looking at us and I didn’t care and we were in the middle of the road. LOL.

Take 1: Failed, because no Chai Wei.

    IMG_2197 by nicholaschan.

Take 2: Failed, because Chai Wei’s face was too big and Andy was out.

    IMG_2198 by nicholaschan.

Take 3: Failed, because Chai Wei didn’t look at the lens.

    IMG_2199 by nicholaschan.

Take 4: Failed because Andy out of focus a bit and Chai Wei was out again.

Take 6: Passed (a bit). ALL IN!

    Happy new year. Haha
