    Malacca: Walking Around Chinatown

Malacca: Walking Around Chinatown – It was a sunny afternoon after eating some Cendol and Laksa at the always-crowded Jonker88 Cafe. We strolled around the Chinatown area, which also known as the area around Jonker Walk (Jalan Hang Jebat). This place is very similar to Penang, the old-school electic straits shophouses and the street are almost the same. It’s just that the street in Malacca is narrower and the number of these shophouses are less than in Penang.

One thing I like about Malacca is that they truly develop this heritage part of the city into a living museum and tourist area. It’s so tourist concentrated with souvenir shops, cafe, restaurant and guesthouse all around this place. I like walking around the heritage area, it’s like bring me back in time.

Jalan Tukang Emas and Jalan Tukang Besi are full of guesthouses.

    Joss sticks.

Inside Cheng Ho Tea House & Museum. Ground level is free of charge and one have to pay RM10 to visit the upper level.

You can check out the electronic puppet show which tells you the story of Cheng Ho.

Little ang-mo kid who was watching the puppet show.

The No. 8 Heeren Street is a museum located on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, also known as Heeren Street is currently number 1 to-do in Malacca according to TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, it was closed when we were there. I’ve no idea what is it about but curious.

Do you like Malacca? How about Penang? Penang is the best, because I am from Penang. =D

Malacca: Beautiful Roof – Just one beautiful photo of heritage shophouses’ roof top. Lovely!

  • Muda House At Muda Lane, Penang

During the Georgetown Festival that happened last month,  I found a nice heritage shop houses call the Muda House, which the name derived from the street name – Muda Lane. It’s just somewhere near to the famous Kuan Yin Temple and it’s a good visit.

I was actually walking around town with Hueisean for fun in conjunction with the Georgetown Festival and accidentally found out this light blue painted colonial shop houses. With much curiosity, we went in to the Muda House check it out what it is all about. It’s actually like a mini museum, selling heritage stuff, souvenirs, coffee and antiques.

They are also a charity house which they collect funds to help stray dogs and animals. How kind are them?

You can find antiques stuff there too for your home decoration.

Check out their website for more information. A nice and relaxing place that should not be miss.

  • MoonTree 47 – Nice Heritage Place And Cafe To Chill

Penang’s George Town has gained the UNESCO World Heritage title 3 years back and restoration work of old colonial houses and shop lots can be seen all over the town. Some of these old colonial houses turn into accommodation, cafe, shops, and of course an 3D art gallery. In fact, the whole architecture is a piece of art.

There are already some nice cafe and accommodation hotel which are restored from the old colonial houses and will soon increases more and more. I have been in search of this kind of place all over George Town to chill and enjoy the restored architecture. Muntri Street (Lebuh Muntri) is a nice street with many old colonial shophouses and it’s getting more and more famous to tourist as the increasing of the backpacker guesthouse.

MoonTree 47 is a cafe, art gallery cum homestay which is located on Muntri Street. It blue exterior attracted me to check out the place. I went there for lunch few days back and it was a fruitful meal.

Upon entering the place, I come across many antique art pieces like old door and furniture which spice up the place.

I was trilled and excited to see the antique-ish interior. The decoration of the heritage interiors give a sense of relaxing and throw my mind away. It made me want to sit down and surf the Internet all day long in MoonTree 47 and sip their homemade coffee.

Look at the chair and table used, it’s so classic and sweet.

It gives me a feel of not belonging to Penang, it’s like out of the busy city, slow, steady and chilling.

MoonTree 47 houses a variety of vintage antique collection. Vintage classic furniture, photos, camera, radio, photos and more. It’s a nice little museum that have other functions e.g. cafe, homestay. =)

A little bit of green sparks up the place too as you know it’s the “Go Green” era. How can a place full of art pieces be complete without green arts? It truely blended a fresh and sense of nature into a vintage space.

How I wish I could spend time online and forget about all the misery and the coming stressful days.

Look at how they decorate the washing area. They are just old items reused and decorated with some colours, mirror and green. It’s just so perfect in match.

If got a chance, I’m gonna visit it again and relax myself at there with some nice coffee and MacBook. =D Forgot to mention, free wifi is available. Hehe.

Penang was founded by Sir Francis Light during the late 18th century and it has a history of British colony back then where it was part of the Straits Settlement, together with Malacca and Singapore.

  • A Short Walk In Heritage Site, Muntri Street

Penang gained the UNESCO Heritage status few years back and the local tourism business is blooming. There’s many restoration work going around in the city and there’s still stubborn owner or heritage building doesn’t want to restore and beautify their property. OMG.

Recently, I passed by Muntri Street and saw some cool cafes and some stylish hostel for tourist and backpackers. Curiousity made me stopped and went to check out the place for a while.

I didn’t really know that there’s so many restoration and heritage stuff on Muntri Street last time. When talked about Muntri Street, I thought about the Teo Chew Porridge shop and the Chinese Thean Hou Temple, that’s all.

But now, my perception towards the street change, it is a very old street, a very heritage streets fill with arts, culture and history, so do hostel, cafes and mini accommodation.

Being a Penangite, I want to appreciate the Penang’s heritage site more and being an interior design student, I have strong feel on heritage architecture, they are really very pretty.

Penang can be one of the top heritage city in the world like in Europe, fill with nice old building architecture, yet the people in Penang have to take up the responsibilities to preserve and restore the old building.

Having an organized and clean city is awesome. Investment comes into the state, better facilities and better lifestyle too! I just love my own hometown so much. It’s so pretty and proud to be a Penangite.

I have trust in the current state government led by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng. Looking forward to see Penang in the future where it will transform into the best city in Malaysia. =D

  • A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

    Dark dark sky.

After karaoke for RM1 at Red Box with dearest Hueisean, we went to watch Rapunzel at Prangin Mall, then we were out of the mall. I didn’t want to go back home, so I drove to Armenian Street to take a walk. Actually, my intention was just to check out where is the many-people-talkabout’s Amelie’s Cafe is located at.

Old hair cut. The lady owner don’t allow me to take photos. Ish.

    Dearest Huei Sean. =D

Don’t you think the pre-war building are pretty?

Armenian Street is a short street full with pre-war buildings and very heritage looking. The well-known symbol to me are the Chinese temple and Edelwiss Swiss Restaurant.

    Lodging House. Hotel? Haha.

Lovely red. =) Original beaded shoes.

Only until recently, I read many blogs and found out the existing of Amelie’s Cafe. A very little cafe on the shophouses and with a very vintage and heritage design. Really like it.

I just passed by the place, and walked for a while because it was drizzling and I had my lunch not long ago only.

Nice camera man. I want all of these!

Then I visited an antique museum shop. Inside has many antiques from the olden days and I felt they are pretty cool.

There’s a French woman chatting out there and selling fruit juices and have some French croissant for sale. Unfortunately, I was not hungry. So I just took a walk in there, after that we hopped into our car and it started to rain heavily.

    Beautiful trishaw.

    Home we went.
