  • Evening Run Along Gurney Drive (Soon, Gurney Wharf)

Evening Run Along Gurney Drive (Soon, Gurney Wharf)

It’d been a while since I’ve really stroll or run along the Gurney Drive promenade. There’s a major sea reclamation work going on along this famous seafront and a fence was built to hide the ugly sight partially. Until the new Gurney Wharf is built, the Gurney Drive would not be as fun to walk on as before. I bet there’s still a few years to go till proper completion of a new walkway along the new extended coast line.

Although the speed of reclamation work is at a fast pace, it’s still slower than the Chinese doing the work at the Johor’s straits. And, upon finishing the reclamation work, there still plenty of planning work to do before a new promenade is built. So, it’s gonna be a long wait. For now, I’m just gonna continue to jog along the Gurney Drive, behind the fence.

The entire stretch of Gurney Drive is about 1.7km, so a return run would be a 3.4km and it took me a little while to get used to it as I’ve not been running on the road for quite some times. Lazy is the keyword. Haha, but it was a good run with lovely blue sky and good breeze. At the same time, indulge myself into the beauty of my neighbourhood.

Well, if you happens to be around, just put on your shoes and run along the promenade, it’s still lovely with all the work going around.

See the blackened super condo unit, there’s a fire from short circuit two weeks back. And this condo is about 10,000sf in size per unit!

  • Evening Walk Along Gurney Drive

    Evening Walk Along Gurney Drive

Evening Walk Along Gurney Drive – Back to Penang finally! I have been spending my time here accompanying my family, catching up with mates, indulging with all the delicious street food and just going around here and there randomly, there’s nothing much to do, it’s just rest and relax.
Well, Gurney Drive is getting to be my favourite place recently as I’ve been going there to for evening jog/walk lately. It’s a very nice place for this short jog on a 2km stretch of seaside pavement with chilling sea breeze and enjoy seeing different types of people spending their time there. Funny that you can see people having picnic there, eating durian, and foreign labours holding hands (seriously, but I didn’t get photos of them, I scared I will get beaten)! HAHA.
Anyway, I armed myself with my camera, and went for a walk yesterday evening. I was just too lazy to jog and don’t want to stop myself from my workout routine, so thought of photo-walking as an exercise. XD
They call it the Tsunami Sculpture. LOL.

  • Trip To Penang: Night Tour To Gurney Paragon

Trip To Penang: Night Tour To Gurney Paragon

Trip To Penang: Night Tour To Gurney Paragon – Khoo Kongsi was the last stop for the day for the ‘Trip to Penang with DID Classmate’ and after that it’s night time and I brought a few friends for a private tour around Penang. I wanted to bring more people to see the night side of Penang but I have a car that only can fit 5 people in total so, sorry for them. XD
We went for food at 3rd Road Lebuh Presgrave, desserts at Kimberley Street, a quick tour of Straits Quay, and ended up to check out Gurney Drive and Gurney Paragon before taking them back to the hotel and call it a day. It’s quite tiring for the first day in Penang for everyone so there’s not much of night exploring, but there’s still more to go on the next day.
In this new year of 2013, I am so looking forward to the opening of the new mall of Gurney Paragon. At the moment, Gurney Paragon has the front section – St. Jo’s Square open with F&B outlets as well as the two towers of luxurious condominiums. The mall at the back will open soon, mid of 2013 I assume and it’s gonna be awesome and high end.
Meal at Lebuh Presgrave for awesome supper Hokkien Prawn Mee. Wesley was complaining about the spiciness of Char Koay Teow. Oh oh oh, it’s not spicy to me.
    The quiet street at night.
    Here we at Gurney Paragon.

I’ll stop sharing here and go to bed now, working tomorrow! Good night!

  • A Evening Walk Along Gurney Drive On Festive Season

A Evening Walk Along Gurney Drive On Festive Season – It’s Hari Raya, Day 2. Penang has became a very congested little island on this festive season with Malaysian from other states flocking into the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town. Traffic congestion are everywhere in Penang.

To prevent getting trap and being frustrated in the traffic congestion, one of the activity I did to kill time was strolling along Gurney Drive, a quick walk for a little sweaty exercise with my parents. It was some unusual activity, normally I would just jog, but it was just walking with a faster pace, enjoying the breeze and laughing at those who were stuck in the traffic jam. HAHA.

Gurney Drive has more people than normal day as it’s a public holiday. Unfortunately, it’s low tide and a huge part of it revealed the ugly muddy shore. Seriously, I am quite sad to see this unhappy scene. It’s like the shores are crying. Something need to be done, environment expert, state government, just turn it into a park, expand the walkway, or whatever way to bring back the lovely shore.

The other end of Gurney Drive still looks good. It’s still looks good and kids picking up seashell can be seen at there. It was a dull and cloudy day, a nice day out for walking, but not so nice for photography.

On the way back, detoured to Gurney Paragon for a little desserts and Gurney Drive hawker for some nice soya milk, as well as fresh cockles (si hum) lok-lok. What a nice night.

Happy Hari Raya, day 2 and enjoy the kotai in your area. Happy hungry ghost month too!

One more thing, did I mention I met local artist and TV host – Miau Miau Lin Jing Miao (苗苗 林静苗)? =)

  • (Almost) Sunset: Shore In Front Of E&O Hotel

(Almost) Sunset: Shore In Front Of E&O Hotel

(Almost) Sunset: Shore In Front Of E&O Hotel – I just found another way that can have a good view of sunset in George Town. It’s introduced by my brother and the location is by the shore in front of E&O (Eastern & Oriental) Hotel or Penang Bowl. Some other popular sunset spot in Penang are Balik Pulau, Batu Ferringhi & Permatang Damar Laut.

Although you can’t really see the sun set into the horizon of the vast sea, but you can frame in a good view of Gurney Drive & Tanjung Tokong with Penang Hill in background.

Penang Port, sad that it’s sold to Tanjung Pelepas Port to serve as feeder port.

    Straits Quay, Tanjung Pinang.

I parked my car at E&O Mult-story Carpark and went to shoot a while at about 7pm. It’s still early so the sun was still up above the sky. However, it’s does indeed looks nice.

Fishing activities going on at there.

Well, Penang looks good, isn’t it?

  • Met Olivia Ong And Celebrate Wai Leong’s Birthday At Overtime

Met Olivia Ong And Celebrate Wai Leong’s Birthday At Overtime

    #1: Overtime!

Met Olivia Ong And Celebrate Wai Leong’s Birthday At Overtime – Monday night was pretty quiet as everyone was preparing to go back to school and work. The 2nd day 2012, I went to Overtime with my cousin, brother and his girlfriend. Overtime was not in our plan but it’s randomly suggested when we were thinking where to go to celebrate my cousin, Wai Leong’s birthday.

    #2.

We went to Overtime at Gurney Drive, a very well-known pub in Penang, and all over Malaysia with live band music. Upon arrival, we were surprised to see many people at there despite school and work was on on the next day. We walk into it and saw Olivia Ong, a famous Chinese singer was autographing her album for her fans.

    #3.

#4: Olivia Ong, a Singaporean who then recorded song in Japan.

Unfortunately, we were too late because she’d done her singing at there and it’s autograph session which means nothing to us because we didn’t buy her album. Anyway, I’ve got to tell you she has good voice and nice song.

We then spend our night with Starker beer, playing Beans card games, sing birthday song, listen to the live band and eat birthday cake. I’ve got to say that the live band at there was pretty entertaining. Happy birthday once again to Wai Leong. =)

One more thing, for those who always visit Overtime, do you know where Starker beer is from? Starker beer is from our lovely Malaysia! Haha. Starker means ‘stronger’ in German and it’s a German-style beer so it tasted a bit sweet.

  • Good Morning Penang! Sunrise From Gurney Drive

Good Morning Penang! Sunrise From Gurney Drive

Good Morning Penang! Sunrise From Gurney Drive

Good Morning Penang! Sunrise From Gurney Drive – Woke up, shot the sunrise spontaneously, and sleep back again. Good morning! Noon reaching in half an hour time. Hehe.

It’s weekend already and I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend ahead. Sunrise is pretty, though the muddy and dry area at Gurney Drive’s seashore is an eyesore. Come on people, let’s do something on the muddy area on Gurney Drive, bring back the glory and beauty of Gurney Drive like in the 80’s.

Do you know that there’s actually a sandy beach in Gurney Drive back then? Sea turtles did actually come here to lay their eggs.

  • HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly – The building of condominium and shopping malls along Gurney Drive is truly a good thing which brings a nice skyline to Penang island. However, the shore or the Gurney Drive’s bay is getting super duper ugly during low tides with a big area of muddy land. The government seriously need to do something to overcome this problem.

This is an eyesore to both the locals and tourists who visit the famous Gurney Drive. As you know Gurney Drive is pretty famous for the seaside, Gurney Plaza shopping mall and the hawker centre. It will leaves a bad impression for those who took photos when the sea is on a low tides.

HELP! Gurney Drive Is Getting Ugly

I heard about that Gurney Drive did has a nice beach 20-30 years back and sea turtle do come here to lay eggs, but they will never ever come back because of the dirty bay and the muddy area.

Something need to be done, something big. Dig a deeper sea, build a garden by the sea, perhaps bring a beach to Gurney Drive (HAHA). Hope that it will turns better in future. Finger cross.

What do you think about Gurney Drive?

  • April Weekend In Penang

    April Weekend In Penang

Not very random post but just to share some shots I taken back in Penang last weekend. Yeah. It’s an awesome home to me, I believe soon in the future will be a famous International city. I sounds so Penang-lover right now and yes I am, proud of when I am from. =) Last weekend in Penang was awesome, very relaxing, loved the weather, the food, people but not the assignments I brought back home to work with. Aduhainya.

Awesome view of Gurney Drive with a little bit sense of local kampung. The capital of Malaysia should have been closer to the sea or many a canal, but not. It’s a valley!

Some people asked me why do I go back so often, the answer is very simple, I love my hometown. Somemore Penang and Kuala Lumpur is like only 4 hours = 370km away, they are near, little bit, but still nearer than people going to Singapore, or oversea which they can’t even go home. Maybe they like where the place they are but home is awesome. Why don’t I stay in Penang to study? I want a better education and I want to explore more.

Not really been to many places over the weekend, just lunch, camera shop, some nice restaurants, baby’s birthday, town and the cinema. Spent more time with the assignment though.

Went to lunch on Gurney Drive.

And I am feeling bad not finding my friends when going back because that I have too much that I wanted to do. Hopefully the next visit I can look for them. =) Penang is a small place, yet it has almost everything, the people, the food and the entertainment.

Visited my favourite camera shop Click N’ Snap on Penang Rd to look for some camera gear.

War Winz Enterprise, a computer hardware shop that you must visit in Level 4, Prangin Mall. =) I went at a wrong time as it’s not opened yet, it’s open now by the way and it’s my tuition teacher’s shop. Go support support. =)

I don’t know why most of the time I come back to Penang will go to town and walk around KOMTAR area. I feel it’s fun walking in the city centre, although there’s not really much thing to see and by the way, KOMTAR is renovating the shopping mall, excited to see what it will be in a few months time. =D

Chao, I am hungry, currently writing this in the library and just finished Malaysian Studies exam and had no breakfast in the morning. OMG. Eat time!

  • Walk Home From Gurney Plaza on Tuesday Afternoon

Walk Home From Gurney Plaza on Tuesday Afternoon

Went to Gurney Plaza to do some stuff yesterday and I did not drive, mom dropped me there and I walked home. Before I got my driving license, it was walking all the time to and fro. But after getting my driving license, I always drive there although it’s near. Haha.

So it’s quite some time I didn’t walk home already and yesterday I took a walk and it’s, HOT!

The weather was hot yesterday but then I saw blue blue sky. So surprise to see blue sky at this time because skies are blue during December-January of the year. Love it a lot! Guess it’s time for me to pack up my camera gear to go out to shoot something.

    IMG_0518 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0519 by nicholaschan.

Gurney Plaza was quiet yesterday, it’s always quiet on a working weekday and it’s not happenings. While walking home, I saw the sea was in a high tide, Gurney Drive is so pretty during high tides because there’s no fugly mud shore. I so wish that it could be always high tide so no more ugly shore.

    IMG_0520 by nicholaschan.

    IMG_0521 by nicholaschan.

No idea why they make the bus stop so pretty whereas there’s no bus passing this place.

    IMG_0522 by nicholaschan.

Gurney Drive was quiet too and hot. I was sweating all the way and trying to shade my self with my hand while walking home.

    IMG_0525 by nicholaschan

Ok, good night for now. Not going to show you where my place is. Haha. It’s 2am while I’m writing this.
