  • Rainig On Beach Street, George Town

    IMG_0104

is just a random post about the rain during noon just now. It’s kinda nice to see the rain as the temperature have been warm and humid lately. The refreshing rain cool up the heat on the warm earth and brings a cooling effect to us.

    IMG_0109

It’s just like you having a bath after a long workout. Somehow, raining is always not a good thing as it makes people troublesome, wearing a rain coat, carrying an umbrella.

The motorcycle vendor has a big umbrella ever ready for his business. Thumbs up.

Luckily, it was a short rain and it wasn’t that big! Hello! =) How are you guys doing?

  • Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant #2

    Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant #2

Today’s noon was raining heavily everywhere in Penang. Was thinking to eat at Sin Kheng Aun Hainanese Food but it was difficult to look for a parking, then changed our mind to TekSeng Restaurant but it’s not open today and finally we went to Kopitan Restaurant for lunch with mom and dad.

    IMG_0111
    Kopitan’s Coffee – RM3.50

I found it not bad last time, so it’s a OK-GOOD lunch place. Luckily we found a parking right outside the restaurant and it was full of people inside. Surprisingly, the serving time for beverage and rice meal was fast. But it take rather slow for the toast.

    IMG_0115

The rice dish was fast in serving is probably because it’s easy to prepare as the chicken is chicken chop, just poured with different type of sauces. I ordered myself a plate of Mushroom Chicken Chop Rice (RM8.90) which I couldn’t find any mushroom on it. It’s the sauce on the chicken that tasted mushroom. Somehow, I think this is s0-so only, nothing much special, I more prefer the Kam Heong’s.

    IMG_0117

Mom likes the toast at there. She always praised that the bread use for the toast and how good and soft it is. This time, she ordered a Sausage and Cheese Toast (RM5.90) which I could say, it’s good! I like the softness of the bread, the little sausage slice on top of the bread, the cheese melts in the mouth and the sweetness of sugar on the bread. This is good.

  • Red Box KTV At 1st Avenue

I went to Red Box at 1st Avenue last week with my high school friend, Arron Lim, Yan Chien Chern, Tan Tee Jin, Ng Yan Duan, and Tay Zez Chien. Haha. It was a good gathering as it had been some times that we didn’t go to the KTV together.

To share with you something is that during high school time, we go to the KTV at least once every two months. So we were quite a frequent Red Box customer.

Last time Red Box was only available at Gurney Plaza, but now there’s another place to go KTV, which is 1st Avenue. We didn’t book a room but then there’s quite plenty of KTV rooms for us.

    Yan Duan.

We paid for student price at RM8++ per person and the session was 3pm to 7pm. It’s quite a long time for us to sing.

    Tee Jin.

    Zez Chien,

The afternoon was fun, we sing, we scream and we get crazy. It was a nice gathering with them. It really brings back the memories back when it was high school. =D

  • I Came Back To Chung Ling High School

After 1.5 years of high school graduation, I came back to my high school, the Chung Ling High School, number 1 all-boys Chinese school in Penang. HAHAHA. Seriously, I do misses my high school quite a lot because there’s many bit of my happy memories.

Recent visit was actually to get the official copy of my SPM result certificate (not the copy slip that I’ve got last year), to eat the delicious canteen food and also to meet friends at the Upper Sixth Form.

Poh Lin of Upper Sixth Form.

Unfortunately, I did not get the SPM result certificate because that there’s no one in the admin office to attend us. We were there during lunch hour and they were out for lunch break. Too bad, so we just spent time wandering around school, eat and talk.

I am now in college, and many friends are still in high school doing the Sixth Form (A Level equivalent) and because of that I get to meet them when their classes dismiss. It was really nice to meet back all the high school mates and most of them haven’t change a bit. It brings back the times when we actually spend times every day in school together, doing some useless funny thing.

High school was fun, real fun. Some say being in an all-boys school will be boring because there’s no chick, but you are wrong, it’s fun as there’s no limitation and hesitation in our acts, doings and talking. We talk whatever we want.

Some even afraid of boys will turn into gay or afraid of being abused by gay. But I tell you, I found no gay (one or two perhaps) which they are probably embarrassed to approach the straights at that age. And one thing, I have no comment on gay, neither hate or like.

    Arron Lim.

Do you know that Chung Ling High School has many powerful alumni? Singapore’s Minister of National Development was a Chung Ling boy. Jiang Haoliang who is the General Manager-Business in Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (factory that makes iPhone) was a Chung Ling boy. More and more.

    Yan Chien Chern.

Well, another thing I got to say is that the canteen food is still cheap. Cheapest tid bits starts from RM0.20 for a piece of fried wantan, and normal food like Koay Teow Th’ng starts from RM1.20! Best food are Koay Teow Thng, fried egg, wantan mee and the economy mixed rice. These are awesome!

  • Ruyi Tomyam Mee On Macallum Street

Ruyi Tomyam Mee On Macallum Street

Recently, I shared about the Xiang Xia Tomyam Mee and just lately, I found another nice tomyam mee near that area, not at Weld Quay but at Macallum Street (五条路), or simply known as 5th Road to the locals.

The place where the tomyam mee is at the cafe named Ruyi Cafe. In fact, the whole cafe only sells the tomyam mee and fried fish beehoon.

They have a variety of ingredient come with soup and noodle. You can pick normal soup (qing1 tang1) or tomyam and the cheapest starts from RM4.50. There’s fried fish, fish ball, shrimps, minced pork meat and shrimp meat for you to choose to add in your noodle.

Here’s my delicious bowl of tomyam noodle, picked Maggi as noodle and there’s fish ball, fried fish fillet and the shrimp meat (the local call it hair gor bak in Hokkien). This thing cost me RM6.50 and it’s good. The soup has a strong tomyam taste, not too spicy, yet it brings the sourness out and there’s a little bit of sweetness in it. It’s good.

If you ask me to compare with Xiang Xia’s. I like this more.

  • Set Lunch At 600CC Taiwanese Restaurant

Set Lunch At 600CC Taiwanese Restaurant

600CC is a Taiwanese Restaurant that is based in Penang which currently have 5 outlet, Gurney Plaza, Prangin Mall, Tesco Penang, Sunway Carnival Mall and Pacific Megamall.

Recently, I went to 600CC for lunch and found out they have set lunch menu, so I went to try out their dishes. I am not really a frequent visitor to 600CC because of I a little bit dislike paying 16% taxes, which result in a more expensive meal. Because of set lunch menu, it’s better than ordering a la carte.

Set lunch consists of a milk tea with grass jelly and a main dish which starts from RM9.90.

Mom ordered a Zha Jiang Mian 杂酱面 (Mixed Sauce Noodle with Minced Meat) – RM10.90. It tasted sweet and the noodle was springy enough, thought what’s weird was having cucumber in the dish. Some like it, some might not, I’ll say OKOK only.

As for me, I ordered a beef noodle (台湾牛肉面) – RM12.90. The soup was good and the noodle is actually same as the one used in the Zha Jiang Mian. I like they put crunchy salted vegetable in it which is kinda nice, in fact I was biting on the salted vegetable more than on the beef meat. Beef meat was soft. It’s really awesome eating a beef noodle for lunch, I felt it may not be the best, but it’s good to eat.

  • Hai Boey Seafood At Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul

Hai Boey Seafood At Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul

In KL, when talking about seafood, people will think about Kuala Selangor or perhaps Klang, and in mainland Penang, people will think about Tambun, but in Penang island, there’s 2 place famous for seafood, Gertak Sanggul and Teluk Bahang. It’s not your typical Western seafood with cheesy lobster, Chilli soft shell crab, salmon fillet or tuna. What I am talking about is fried mussel, steamed fish, salted egg crab, and more Chinese-local style seafood.

Seafood in my opinion is one of the most expensive food because sea creatures are not easy to capture. These high cholesterol food (except fish) are not healthy, yet many people are craving for it. The freshness taste of seafood are so tempting.

I went to Hai Boey Seafood Restaurant, one of the famous seafood restaurant (another is Good Friend Seafood which I didn’t visit before) in Penang lately for a family dinner.

Hai Boey located deep inside Gertak Sanggul by the seaside is a nice place to have your Chinese-local style seafood as you can enjoy a nice view of sunset during the evening with a nice sea breeze. There’s a little beach and a small playground which allows little kids to play on. Being a big kid, I just went around to take photos of the place.

We arrived at about 7pm and surprised to see that the place was already fulled with people. I think that for the next visit, it will be 6pm, the earlier, the merrier as you can take a stroll near the beach and chit-chat with your friends and family there and chill too. It’s not all about food, but enjoying the sea view too!

We ordered several little seafood which were not those super expensive dishes, but were quite delicious. It was dad who became the leader to make down the order on the food. First up was a plate of what the local called – char kappa which is fried clam with sour sauce and garlic (RM15). It’s really a nice starting dish. The sour sauce were so delicious and it’s nice to eat with rice. The clam was so nice to eat with many garlic and the sour sauce.

Next up was a Japanese style fried brinjal/eggplant (RM9.00). Besides eating just seafood, we did order some vegetable, non-seafood dish to neutralize the seafood cholestrol. This was surprisingly to be good as it’s not only deep fried, but stuffed with a little bit of carrot cutlet and little meat.

    IMG_7715

The other vegetable dish was something light. It’s a simple Chinese style spinach cook with garlic (RM12.00). The vegetable was soft but I didn’t fancy on this much because I was too concentrated on the fishes, crabs and more seafood! Haha.

    IMG_7714

As for some carbohydrates dish, we ordered a fried bee hoon and tang hoon mixed (RM15.00). This one is kinda special, on my first try of the mixed of tang hoon and bee hoon, I couldn’t taste the presense of tang hoon, but when look closer into it, the tang hoon actually blends into the taste and the taste covers the texture of both noodle. This is pretty good, especially with lots of little shrimps and beansprout.

    IMG_7721

I saw some people’s table has this dish, the deep fried sotong (squid) – RM10, and it looks so tempting and crunchy. I am kinda fan of crunchy food and I ordered one too. Though, there only me and dad who were eating it and there’s quite many of it. Eating this with the seafood chilli sauce was so good. It’s just crunch-crunch in the mouth.

    IMG_7719

You might not see clearly what it is. This is a big claypot, with a big Red Snapper fish in it. This is the claypot red snapper fish (RM52.00) which is one of their recommended dish. The red snapper fish was a little bit hard, yet the freshness can be tasted through my tongue. The sauce was actually soy sauce, a little bit of alcohol and some other spices which I don’t know that makes it good. This dish comes in a big portion too.

    IMG_7725

Lastly, how can a seafood dinner comes without a crab? We were not really into crab for the dinner, somehow because of it’s a seafood dinner, we ordered a salted egg fried crab (RM22). It’s a small dish as it’s just eat-for-fun and there’s only 2 crabs. Yum yum yum that’s what I want to say because the crabs were deep fried with salted egg which you can taste the salty-ness, yet preserving the freshy taste of the crab. I like this.

It was really a nice dinner and went back home with a full stomach.

  • Sunset At Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul

I think and think and think, I think Teluk Kumbar is located in Gertak Sanggul, and Gertak Sanggul is under the district/town or Bayan Lepas. Am I correct? When people talk about Hai Boey or Hao You seafood, you will hear about Teluk Kumbar and Gertak Sanggul. This two names always make me confuse about the place.

Nevertheless, they are both the same place in my opinion. I hear more people say Teluk Kumbar more than Gertak Sanggul. Recently, I went there to have my seafood dinner with my family and I took out my camera to take some shorts of the seaside and sunset.

It’s a really nice place to eat seafood because it’s by the sea have some seatings near the beach, and a little children playground too. So it’s not all about eating, but play too!

    Have you been there before?
