Trip To Penang: Little India’s Sri Mahamariamman Temple
Trip To Penang: Little India’s Sri Mahamariamman Temple – I actually skip one place and that is the Kuan Yin Temple, I’ve been there for so many time so I’ve decided not to follow them into the heaty Kuan Yin Temple. After the St George’s Church, the Kuan Yin Temple, now across the road and we reached the Little India of Penang, a street full of Indian retail shop and also the worship place of the Indian, an Indian temple of Sri Mahamariamman.Unfortunately, temple was closed that day, there’s not much of touring, as usual, the Mr Tour Guide gave a introduction of the place and we went off to somewhere else, next is to the Khoo Kongsi, one of my favourite place in Penang with awesome old Straits Chinese architecture. Anyway, before heading to Khoo Kongsi, let’s check out what happened around Little India. -

Trip To Penang: St George’s Church
Trip To Penang: St George’s Church – Was organizing the photo library of my computer and found out that there’s one album that I have not uploaded to the Facebook or the blog and here I want to share with you guys. You might notice that my title is kinda weird, I am from Penang, why a trip to Penang? It’s actually happened last year when my class (Diploma In Interior Design, DID) had a study trip to Penang and I joined the tour along! =)I’ve been promoting Penang quite a lot to them and finally they get to check out this lovely little island organized by Mr CK. Looking back at this photos, it was such a fun trip together and it’s seems long then the whole class haven’t been anywhere together, hopefully there’s a little trip together I hope.
Steve, Jia Hui, with Arvin at the back and me holding the camera. During the trip in Penang with the classmate, I followed a tour leaded by the Penang Heritage Trust. Anyone may ask them to bring you on a guided walking tour around the town too for an amount of money, I am not sure how much they charge but you may visit the website for more. The first stop was the St George’s Church at Pitt Street, one of the famous church in George Town. -

Klang Valley: Square Dotz Cafe @ SS2

Klang Valley: Square Dotz Cafe @ SS2 – Invited by a friend, Arvin to check out the Square Dotz Cafe at SS2 few days back as there’s some sort like a music night where indie bands play and sing song. I didn’t really stay long for the music but it was a cool one.
Square Dotz Cafe located in one of the bungalow in the SS2 neighbourhood. When I’ve got invited to there, I thought it’s some sort like the music cafe, the Chinese call those 民歌餐厅 Min Ge Can Ting, turned out it’s a bright little cafe with very simple decoration. What’s interesting is the murals which were painted by a group of Taylor’s University architecture students. I’ve no idea who they are. Haha. It’s kinda hard to classify this restaurant, it’s a mix of local food with a bit of western food. Fusion, I assume.
Friends told me the food were pretty expensive, but it seems to be still OK with price all less than RM20. They’ve decided to eat somewhere else and only ordered a drinks there. Well, since I was there already, why not try out their specialties?
Here’s my order, Beef Rendang with Basmati Rice (RM16.90). You can opt for chicken instead and the whole presentation does looks good to me. Basmati rice is those Indian rice and its fragrance was interesting and nice. As for the beef rendang which has a good aroma, but then I wish it to be more spicy that it will be awesome. Overall, it’s not a bad try.

Klang Valley: Curry Wan Tan Mee @ Aman Suria (Shang Yi Fatt Kopitiam)
Klang Valley: Curry Wan Tan Mee @ Aman Suria (Shang Yi Fatt Kopitiam) – Now I have started working as an intern at a small interior design firm in Aman Suria,so I get to try different different food around that area during lunch and some times dinner too. Few days ago, my colleagues brought me to Shang Yi Fatt Kopitiam to try out the Curry Wan Tan Mee.It’s a typical Chinese coffee shop but there’s only one stall operating during lunch hour and that’s the Curry Wan Tan Mee. At first, the colleagues told me we were going for “Curry Mee”, I thought it’s the same as Penang Curry Mee but turned out different. There’s only yellow noodle and the wan tan mee noodle, there’s no bee hoon mee or koay teow. Then you can pick the choice of fried wantan, siu yok (sio bak), char siu (cha sio) and/or si hum (cockles) for the ingredient of your noodle.I picked wantan mee noodle with si hum and siu yok (sio bak) and it costed me RM5.50 for that medium bowl of noodle. The stall was very generous in putting the ingredient as there’s plenty of cockles and siu yok. It’s a OK-good bowl of curry mee, with nice siu yok too, it’s just that it’s not spicy enough for me. If it has the Penang Curry Mee-type of chili paste then it will be awesome.Shang Yi Fatt Kopitiam19-2A, Jalan PJU 1/3C,Sunway Mas Commercial Center,Aman Suria, 47301

Pasarian Interior Design Graduate Showcase @ Annexe Gallery
Pasarian Interior Design Graduate Showcase @ Annexe Gallery – One fine Tuesday evening, after my work at the interior design studio, I went to the Annexe Gallery at Central Market, Pasar Seni to check out the Pasarian, a graduate showcase by my seniors of the interior design school of Taylor’s University. As far as I know, it’s the first ever interior design graduate showcase from Taylor’s University. What’s about before? I don’t know. Haha.I’ve seen my seniors’ works before, so I was there to give support to them and perhaps bid farewell since I won’t be seeing them in midnight studio anymore like last time. I felt that they did a very good job in making this graduate showcase which I see is a success and everything was just good. How I wish that when I graduate later this year, I get to participate or organize something like this together with my classmate, but it’s not an easy one with them as my the people from my class are not as enthusiastic and unite as the Pasarian. Lack of luck I guess for me not meeting a good bunch of people. Hopefully, there will be a graduate showcase for me too? =)Anyway, it was a good night with some chattering, food, arts, and laughter. The show is still on until this Sunday, 13th January 2013. Do check out at Annexe Gallery, Central Market, accessible via LRT at Pasar Seni station.

Internship Experience: I Feel Workday Blues
Internship Experience: I Feel Workday Blues – One week of internship at the interior design studio has passed, so how was it? It’s not as fun as I’ve expected. It’s more workload than I’ve expected and the office environment is not what I imagined. Haha?
No, not from the view of my office, how I wish it is. – Kuala Lumpur. ‘Come on, it’s just an internship training’, I told myself. I am now experiencing the job of a full-time designer at the company, guess that’s the point of practical training is, right? Haha. Now only I realised that it’s not easy to work in this industry, there’s no fix 9-5 working hours, it’s always O.T. most of the time, like today, I just got home like an hour ago only. Deadlines, and hardworking colleagues, that makes up the over time.Colleagues and bosses are friendly at the studio, but there’s not much of spoon-feeding already, like teaching me what’s what, maybe it should be so, and they became a living dictionary that I can just ask anything I want to learn. Working in a designing firm is not what I thought as it is, I thought of working in team, I thought of less detailed drawing, more on 3D and conceptual design, turned out it’s detailed drawings all the time with minimal of 3D drawing. But hey, at least I know these detailed drawings can cost over tenth of thousands!
The workplace environment. It’s kind of a mix or neutral feeling at work now, not overly enjoy, nor dislike it, I’ll take it as a place to train myself, learn and gain the knowledge and experience. 2 months only, let’s do it and enjoy it. But somehow, I still feel workday blues. Maybe I should find a fun point at work, which is…?Anyway, good night and happy working to you. Things to do tomorrow: Find a fun point. -

Putrajaya: Cloudy Evening
Putrajaya: Cloudy Evening – Went there few weeks back while on the way back to KL from Muar with Clarice and guess what, it’s her first time there! Yes, she has not been there before so I thought of drove her there and show her around. I like Putrajaya because it’s the nicest city in Malaysia with very awesome architecture of government’s building. Sadly, it’s like a ghost town at night or weekend, there’s nothing much to do and the development at there seems halted. Blah…Ah, shit, Monday blues, Monday blues, Monday blues. =D -

Penang: 宰牛后粿条汤 Nice Koay Teow Thng Dinner @ Beach Street
Penang: 宰牛后粿条汤 Nice Koay Teow Thng Dinner @ Beach Street – The Koay Teow Th’ng stall is actually at the intersection of Lebuh Melayu and Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai), located right in front of the very old MCA shophouse. Well, it’s my dinner for my Sunday night and I’ve got to say, it’d been a long time I didn’t eat Koay Teow Th’ng already and this one really cheered my taste buds up.
Finally, I found a good Koay Teow Th’ng stall in Penang with awesome fish balls and sweet soup with lots of lard, in addition a reasonable price too! The stall operates at night for dinner. We ordered 3 bowl of Koay Teow Soup and a small bowl of vegetable, the total costs us only RM15.
The fish ball has the springy feeling that’s not like those factory made one and the person is very generous too, adding a lot of chicken meat as well as the garlic and lard into soup which makes the soup taste even tastier.
Yums! I will come back again. Do you like/dare to eat pork lard? It’s very unhealthy and I dare. XD
