Going to Kem PLKN White Resort On The First Day
Let’s share something about the recent National Service (PLKN) that I’ve been to lately. I was there for only 7 weeks because I made deferment for it. Why? It’s hard to explain to you, perhaps I’ll talk about it next time. Though I had fun at there. I was assigned to Kem PLKN White Resort at Balik Pulau, Penang. Although it’s just at the back of the island of where I am staying, it’s still 45 minutes to one hour away from my home. It’s far.
While talking about the first day and how I go to the camp, I woke up pretty early that day at 7am and had everything ready. I slept quite late the night before, I think I slept at around 3 because of excitement, nervous and preparing my “Away to PLKN” post on the last minute.
Woke up, I bath, pun on a normal t-shirt and cheap jeans and out to breakfast. I didn’t want to wear something attractive or a Levi’s because I scared my stuff being stolen at there. Haha. Rumors said that there’s lot of stealing case.
I have my bag packed the night before, I bought lots of casual wear t-shirt, pants and underwear. There’s no camera with me but I brought 2 phones. A Nokia N95 and a Nokia 1680. I was actually quite afraid that they will take my phone away because they didn’t allow camera phone in the camp, and I wrapped the Nokia 1680 up with black tapes hoping they didn’t spotted it. As for the Nokia N95, it would be secret phone when I hand in a phone for them to keep. You know, in camp, they will keep the phone from Monday to Friday then return you on Friday night.
I was a little bit stupid because everyone was shooting with the camera phone like crazy for the first week because they didn’t keep our phone when we get in and didn’t talk about the camera phone thing yet. OMG.

Back to that morning, I brought mom and dad to Bayan Lepas to eat roti canai for breakfast. Ate little bit cause not feeling hungry then straight go to PISA where the meet up point was at, all the buses ferrying trainees like me were there. There’s buses to different camp, it’s not only for Kem PLKN White Resort only. I called up my friends to say last bye bye and some were there to send me and other friend off.
Seriously, I was feeling both nervous and excited. I have no idea what it was like in the camp and scared a bit too. Luckily, I was not alone because there’s Chin Lai, Kin You, Yik Chia and Siew Siam who went to the same camp with me, at least there’s people I knew. Registered myself at the counter, then took photograph of surrounding for blogging purpose. Hehe.
I saw many boys still with their hair on and I was already bald. I didn’t want to get cut at the camp, so I went to cut myself at the barber 3 days before. =D
Then I removed my SIM card from my Nexus One and gave the phone to mommy for safe keeping. I wonder what will happened if I take my Nexus One to the camp. Haha, if it’s allow there, life might be perfect.=D
Then I went to look for my friends who came to send us off and take photos together. It might be my last photo and the next photo would be 3 months later, that what I was thinking, but it’s so not correct because I came home a lot during the duration of me in the camp. Haha.

Renyu, Yun Huai, Chin Lai, Boon Bin, me, Choon Kai and Arron.
Jocelyn who was from the same camp but in first batch.
Chen Yuen, same batch, different camp. He went to Kem PLKN Sri Impian, Sungai Bakap. And of course, a photo with dear daddy and mommy is a must!
Then I was off the bus to Kem PLKN White Resort. =D I was on the second bus, same bus with Chin Lai, Kin You, Yik Chia and Siew Siam. I sat beside a Heng Ee student but somehow I’ve forgotten who he was, he came out from camp like pretty early too.
45 minutes later, I arrived at the camp. =D I’ll talk about what happened in the camp next time.

Ali Mamak Stall at Pulau Tikus
I am a fan of Abu Mamak Stall that’s located on Jalan Dato Koyah, somewhere turn in when you see Kayu on Penang Rd. Nightlife people might know about this place already and I love their Fried Maggi Mee a lot. Best. And recently, after posting a live post on awayfromcomputer.com, a reader intro me another mamak stall called Ali, but it’s not in town, it’s close to Pulau Tikus area right opposite PTPL college.
The stall is on the road side of a small lane, with tables and chairs placed on the pavement. I am not sure whether Ali or the owner opporate the stall legally or not. But seems so many people eat there, it’s not a problem already.
We didn’t know what’s famous. The Malay-Indian guy introduced us some food. There’s the susu lembu milo which literally is hot milk with Milo powder. It’s good because it’s hot and it’s RM2.20.
Then I ordered a Fried Maggi Mee, curious about how different is this with Abu’s. The serving look the same, in fact the egg is prettier and the chicken tasted different. The noodle has a garlic taste which Abu don’t have but I go for Abu’s. Why? Because Abu’s is cheaper, this one at Ali cost RM7.20! OMG. Expensive.
My friend ordered a Pattaya Fried Rice. As you know, Pattaya fried rice is a very standard thing, which is fried rice wrapped with egg. This is different because is fried by mamak and it tasted spicy to me and the rice is pretty dark, and wet. My friend say not nice, I felt quite not bad. Different people have different taste. If you like dark fried rice and spicy, this might be a good one for you.
Ali, went there before or not? Abu and Ali are so not related by the way.

Away to PLKN (Day 47): Foyi Children Camp 2009
This is a very late post, I didn’t think of posting it up but since I am in NS right now, I’ll share something up on my blog. On last December, 2009, I attended 3D2N children camp organized by Foyi, a Buddhist society. The camp is also Buddhism-related. Foyi collaborated with Leo Club of Chung Ling High School to make this camp and it’s already 11th camp already.
I was there too in 2008.
Actually I didn’t sign up as helper or in their committee. I went there voluntary, it happened on the weekend before last SPM paper, Chinese. I was playful and didn’t want to spent so much time reading and by that time, I already didn’t have much feel for reading already, so I went to check out their camp, volunteer help for them. Haha. Is that the reason of me getting C for Chinese? I don’t think so. LOL
Since I didn’t tell them I would be there, they didn’t expect me to come and help, and so there’s no name tag and cert for me. But that’s OK, I made myself a tag at there with marker pen and I gave myself a post as 校长, Principal. LOL. It’s just for fun but I was in one of the group too, as helper, caretaker, teacher, taking care of the kids. The year before, I was MC, so I didn’t join in much fun with the group, but I decided to have a change this year. They did ask me to be MC again, but I rejected, because I’ve no feel for it and I couldn’t be there all the time.
I went there morning and went home at night. I didn’t overnight at there. There’s only 2 Form 5 people, me and Min Xiang, others were just preparing for SPM Chinese paper I guess. They had a lot of fun games, learning, performances, talks and many many thing.
First day, I didn’t stay long. I only really start helping out on the second day, helping Crystal, Jin Sheng and Kitsuki Yeoh, my team’s other helpers. =D

When I arrived on the second days, they had already started playing games. Games was a little bit same as the year before, but there’s something different too. Most interesting was still splashing water to each other. I have no idea why children/youth camp love water so much.

Wash plate with Kelvin.
Jason, Crystal and Me. OMG, miss Jason.
Corrinne, me and Woei Ning. I don’t know name of boy boy. Oops. What they did on the second day is playing games and preparing for night’s performance. There’s a performance show at night and parents of kids were invited to come see. We had to prepare either a dance or a sketch to promote so
mething, an item, then will let people to guess what we were promoting. It’s like making an advertisement. As for my group, we did a dance to promote towel and I choreographed part of the dance. Since then, I only knew that dancing and choreographing is so hard.
Another show for the night was fashion show which was about making something cool out of newspaper. Some of the helpers had already prepared water color and blings blings for it. I only knew about it that afternoon, if I had knew it earlier, I would brought more thing for my team. =D

Handsome kid, look like Korean.Everyone was busy that afternoon. I was choreographing the dance in a short time. Fun and tired! One things, all meals for the 3 days were vegetarian! Not bad also I would say. ^^

Pei Chia concentrating seriously.
Preparing the stage for night performance.Stay tune, next would be the night performance.

PLKN Experience: MacBook Pro and Photo Booth In Camp
On a lovely 3rd Sunday of Kumpulan 2, Siri 7, 2010 in Kem PLKN White Resort, Balik Pulau, two guys who were already gone came back to the camp. Balbinder Singh and Eu Chuen.
It’s a Sunday and as usual, I would be in the hall (they called it Dewan Rajawali) from morning until afternoon. I love being in the hall on Sunday because it’s family visiting day and my parents would come and visit me, bring food, bring laptop and camera for me to play with. I don’t like to stay inside the dorm and sleep, it’s Sunday, I need some fresh air and bright light. Dorm is dull.
It’s still early that day, around 930am, I was just preparing myself to go the hall to check out who’s family or friends were there. I am weird, I like to see who came to visit them. Haha. As for my parents, they would probably come around noon time. It’s kinda surprise to see Singh and Eu Chuen came back to the camp a week after they had left. They made deferment because they were going to college, and they came back on a surprise visit. Nice!
Now only I know that there’s an Apple fan in camp and quite a geek too. Eu Chuen brought along his gadget, the MacBook Pro, planning to online at there but somehow the WIFI couldn’t work on that day. So I played a little with my favourite Mac app, Photo Booth. Hehe. Feel a little bit sad for Chuen because he bought his MacBook Pro few weeks before NS and the new revision came out a few week after NS. Apple really release stuff on a surprise. Still, it’s cool. I want one too!

Balbinder Singh.Singh, a mixed of Chinese and Singh came all the way from Taiping and was staying at Eu Chuen’s place. Chuen brought him to camp and they stayed until afternoon.

Me and Balbinder.Sunday is always the best day because I can skip breakfast and wake up a little bit late at 745am, then there’s mom and dad, there’s lot of food and a lot of talking. We talk from morning until afternoon! Yeah.
=========WORLD CUP FEVER=========
Check out the Englbear (England) World Cup 2010 Song. =)
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rebr9ueiB7Y&w=500&h=350]
Wondering what’s Englbear? I am kinda addicted to Celcom Blue Bears. Each country is represented by a bear, like England is Englbear, Germany is Bearmany and so on. The Blue Bears are doing big on the World Cup, so if you are a World Cup fan, you should check out the bears.
