  • Nice Durian Pancake By Sumptuous Desserts

It’s autumn, it’s September already and the super awesome durian seaon has finally over. However, it doesn’t mean that you cannot eat durian right now, there’s still durian out there, it’s just that not many and the price is pretty expensive now, and you need to go around to find, it’s not as easy to find during durian season like there are stalls everywhere.

Nice Durian Pancake By Sumptuous Desserts

Recently, I came across with something call the durian pancake. I have heard about durian cake before but this is my first time encounter with durian pancake. I was invited by the co-founder of Sumptuous Desserts to try out their durian pancake at Sunway Pyramid. It’s located right behind the McDonald’s ice cream kiosk and I wonder why I didn’t notice about it every time I passed by last time.

Let’s check out the menu first and see the price and what interested you. =)

As you can see, they have quite a variety of pancake, mainly durian and cempedak, there’s also mango too, as well as special made cream puff which had been localized.

So, durian pancake is basically is a thin layer, very thin layer of pancake skin, wrapping the delicious yummy real durian cream with a bit of white cream. Sounds interesting right? But how it taste like and how is the texture and experience?

I want to share with you guys a very cool thing is that the texture, the feeling, the experience is just almost the same, 95% same like eating the real king of fruit – durian, just without the big seed. It tasted the same, with the sweet, strong odor yellow durian cream inside, a little bit mixture of white cream makes the durian pancake a fruitful experience for durian lover like me.

The durian pancake is best to serve right out of the fridge when it’s icy cold because it makes eating durian fun and chilling in a hot and tropical country of Malaysia.

A little cool information is that the durian cream is extrated from high quality D24 durian. In term of the content level, the pancake consist of 34g of real durian cream and 28g of white cream. Sounds yum yum right?

I did try cempadak pancake too, the cempadak taste was there but somehow I am more into the durian pancake.

    Have you tried before?

Spent My Wednesday Afternoon At Muntri Mews

    IMG_1152

I am a selfish person and I don’t really like to spend money to buy a coffee and enjoy the hotspot internet at a nicely cafe. But my mindset changed lately when I spent my afternoon at the Muntri Mews Cafe on Wednesday with a little bowl of Chinese desserts and using the free hotspot Internet.

    IMG_1154

It’s fun to spend time at home when there’s air con and no need to spend any money but I feel that after some times, we will started to slack and rot at home, then life gets boring and dull. It’s actually pretty good that you bring your computer out and spend your usual online activity, online business out there at a nice and cozy cafe, with some light meal for bites.

    IMG_1157

I was thinking of going to Jing Si Books & Cafe but I couldn’t find any parking around the busy financial district area of Penang. Then I Googled and found about MoonTree 47 but it was closed and I ended up at a cafe of a flashpacker hotel, Muntre Mews. Quite a cozy place for some hideout. Still in search for some nice heritage cafes with nice coffee to chill out during the afternoon of my holidays. Any recommendation?

    IMG_1150

By the way, I ordered myself a bowl of Cheng Th’ng (RM6.00+), which in fact is similar to the local’s Si Koe Th’ng and I have no idea why they named it that way. A bowl of desserts and Internet was just perfect for an afternoon chill. The Cheng Th’ng consist of longan (dragon eyes), coconut jelly and little small sea coconut bath in a sweet desserts soup and topped with a few cubes of ice. It might not worth the price as you can get similar thing with more ingredient at a roadside store, but given a nice environment and music, it’s a good eat and there’s no bad about it.

  • Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe – The opening of Delicious Cafe (and restaurant) at Straits Quay, Penang have been creating a trend for the young and old to talk about it and dine out at that place. The reason is probably the variety of food, desserts and of course a nice and cozy pink-purplish interiors.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Delicious Cafe origins from 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara Utama, Klang Valley and the opening in Straits Quay is the first outlet in Penang and outside Klang Valley. I have not really dine out at there, just have been hearing many friends talk about the place, despite it’s a mid-end pricing restaurant.

On one night, I visited the place to eat some desert. It was crowded with people at about 9.30pm and it’s a little bit noisy. I didn’t want to sit outdoor as it was hot and humid. No choice that I have to bare the noisyness and eat my dessert.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

The unfortunate event was my girlfriend ordered the Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream at the counter but the waitress told us it’s not available after 5 minutes because it’s all been booked. That’s fine, and we changed to Strawberry Cheese Cake (RM15), and we waited 10 minutes for that. The cake was not that awesome when compare to Secret Recipe, some like it, but it’s not being friendly with my sweet tooth. It looks very pretty though.

We spent some times chatting and surfing the net with the free wifi then we went back. While going out of the door, we took a glance at the desserts cake counter, and shockingly found out that there’s still so many Classic Chocolate Cake. Damn. The waitress told us that they refilled it, they didn’t tell us that they would refill the thing at first this made me have a first bad impression about the service.

What do you think? I might give a second visit to see how it goes. =)

  • Tang Yuan And Desserts At All About Sugar & Gift

Tang Yuan And Desserts At All About Sugar & Gift

    IMG_0724

Who doesn’t love desserts and sweets? Dessert is the nicest food to eat at all time as some is interesting, some is healthy and the best is most of them are yummy. Chinese’ dessert is not about cakes and pastry, but more about tang yuan (glutinous rice ball), fruits, paste and soup.

    IMG_0726

When I was in Hong Kong and Singapore, I always eat desserts at there after and before meal because there’s too many desserts cafe already but then in Penang, there’s not much. Just recently, the number of this desserts cafe and restaurants are increasing.

I went to one dessert house lately on Lorong Susu (near to Macalister Road, behind Town Steamboat House) as they are quite famous for tangyuan. The name is All About Sugar & Gift 团团圆圆团圆汤圆甜品屋. They have a variety of tangyuan with different fillings like sesame, peanuts, lianyong, and some special one like chocolate, cheese, tiramisu and more.

    IMG_0739

My girlfriend ordered a bowl of tangyuan which called the Quan Jia Fu (Whole Family) RM6.90 which allows you to pick 5 big tang yuan with different filling. She picked Tiramisu, White Coffee, Chocolate and Cheese tangyuan. Well, according to her, she said it’s nice because of the special filling rather than normal filling, but the soup wasn’t good as it’s milk with ginger and it tasted a little bit spicy because of the ginger.

I tried and I like the original one like sesame and nuts filling more though. If were to compare to the one in Hong Kong that I had before, Hong Kong’s better. Haha.

    IMG_0737

I ordered myself something different, it’s a Mixed Fruit Sago (RM6.90) and it’s one of the chef recommended. It comes with different fruits cutlet, sago and also some colourful little plain tangyuan. I like this as it’s chilling, sweet and nice.

For your little information, they do serve food too like rice and noodle instead just tang yuan and desserts. It may not be the best dessert house in town but it’s still a good place to hang out with your friends and eat some dessert, chill and relax.

  • Nice Kaya Spread/Coconut Jam At Tanjung Tokong

Nice Kaya Spread/Coconut Jam At Tanjung Tokong

In Malaysia, the coconut jam normally known as kaya for the local, it’s a common term for Malaysian. Kaya is a food spread used for bread and toast and it’s mainly made from coconut and sugar. People like to eat it on toast for breakfast, afternoon tea, all even just eat for fun, it’s just like the normal strawberry jam.

You can actually get this in supermarket or mini-market, but those are factory processed. What’s good is a true homemade kaya spread like this that I’ve got in Tanjung Tokong.

It’s available in big (RM4.50) and small size (RM3.50) and sell in a small coffee shop at the UDA flats in Tanjung Tokong, same place as the nasi Melayu too.

    Do you like Kaya?

  • Malacca Famous Clock Tower Cendol Near Dutch Square

Malacca Famous Clock Tower Cendol Near Dutch Square

Hello people. I am back, from many places! From doing assignment, from Hong Kong, from Malacca and almost everywhere, but haven’t gone back home, Penang yet. I miss Penang’s food so much, so badly. OMG.

Today I want to talk about Malacca food because I went there 2 weeks ago. I think most people knows about the famous food in Malacca like chicken rice ball, satay celup, cendol and so on. But for me as a Penangite which also has a famous Cendol in town, it’s kinda surprise and curious for me to check out other’s famous cendol.

Having various spelling like Chendol, Cendol, I prefrebly call it cendol. There’s actually a few place in Malacca where you can find nice icy cendol and one of which is the one that is right opposite the famous Dutch Square which is a historical site. Selling my an Indian man which attracted quite many customers. It’s a nice dessert to eat and slurp during a super hot tropical weather in Malaysia.

The cendol, looking a little bit identical to Penang’s famous cendol, but selling at only RM1.50, it’s tasted similarly a little bit but it’s sweeter than the Penang’s, probably due to the usage of gula Melaka (Malacca Sweetener) in it. Different people have different feeling yet, I love the both feeling of Penang’s and Malacca’s. One is sweeter, and one is more to the taste of the cendol. IMO, I like Malacca’s more. =)

Crepe Cake at Indulge Cafe, Kuchai Lama

I didn’t really know about this place and if you ask me where is it right now, I still couldn’t tell you where is it but I have a business card here. The cafe is located in Kuchai Lama, KL and the name is Indulge Cafe. So how I went there was basically the guide of the GPS. Haha.

So last week, I went to this Indulge Cafe just to try a crepe cake, introduced by my friend Wanyi. I don’t really know what’s a crepe cake, it’s like layering cake and it’s cold and best of all it’s yummy! Wonderful homemade crepe cake. We ordered a big cake of it for Nita’s birthday and she was happy and everyone was happy too! I like it.

They do serve western food other than desserts.

  • Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt at Island Plaza

Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt at Island Plaza

More and more franchise is coming to Penang, just like recently the Burger King at Lebuh Sungai Pinang and now Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt which is very common here in Kuala Lumpur is now in Penang, opening its first outlet at Island Plaza.

Although I am now residing in Kuala Lumpur, but I didn’t really bother to visit it only when I was back to Penang last week, I brought my girlfriend, Hueisean to Tutti Frutti at Island Plaza to try out the yogurt after our movie at the new W Cinemax.

This is something pretty cool. It’s actually self-serviced cold yogurt of different flavours. You pick your favourite flavours, bit by bit, add in some topping like nuts, cereals, chocolate and candy then the price is according to the weight. Not cheap IMO. Mine was like RM12.30 with 3 yogurt, Apple, Strawberry and Vanilla.

Perhaps this is more healthy, but somehow I prefer gelato ice cream more. =D

  • Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert At SS15 Is Wonderful

Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert At SS15 Is Wonderful

Victor and Yong Xiang introduced me about this Snowflake Taiwanese Dessert cafe at SS15, just right opposite of the famous-to-student Asia Cafe. By hearing the name, I thought it was just some typical snowy type dessert. In fact, it’s not what I was expected and it’s something that I come across for the first time.

Located right opposite of Asia Cafe on the first floor, so you might need to look up to spot the cafe when you pass by that place.

It was Thursday night and it’s already 1030pm, but then the crowds kept coming in and the queue was pretty long. Whole house was filled with people and I started wondering what’s so awesome about this Snowflake. So I made my way through the line and ordered my very first Snowflakes Special Hot, I was have a fly at that time.

After ordering my dessert, I was given a round gadget thing which they called it the Beeping UFO. Makes me felt so Star Wars or Star Trek and it’s pretty cool. I took the thing to my table to wait for my command from the spaceship captain.

After 5-10 minutes of waiting, it blinked and vibrated. I knew that I was ready to go to my spaceship.

So here’s what I ordered, you see nothing right? It’s actually grass jelly with peanut and taroballs. You will think, “what?! grassjelly?” I tell you, the grass jelly is different from what you order out there, it’s, just special. And the taroballs is something chewy and nice to put inside my mouth. I have no idea how to describe it. Although I ordered a hot one, but then it came out warm which didn’t burn my tongue or throat and turned out nice.

I recommend this place. =D Too bad they didn’t offer WiFi at there, else I would be sitting at there all night long surfing the net and blog more already.

They have another outlet at Pavilion too. So in case you are far from SS15, Subang Jaya, you can check out the one in Pavilion. =)
