    Taipei: Famous Shihlin Night Market

Taipei: Famous Shihlin Night Market – How can you not visit the famous Shihlin Night Market if you are in Taipei? Although there’s friend claiming that it’s too touristy, there’s some better one like Raohe, or Shida, or Keelung, or blablabla whatever it is, yet it’s still the most famous and one of the best in my opinion! And very sad, I found the same pants that I’ve bought at Wufenpu, was selling cheaper here at Shihlin! So, the one who says Shihlin is touristy and expensive is just not true.
Yes, it’s touristy, but then there’s still many locals visiting the night market. You can bargain with the stall owner on the price. You can find almost all Taiwanese street food here and the best part for that night, the temperature drop to 18 celcius after so many days of warmness. Oh yeah!
On the way to Shihlin after alighting at Shihlin Subway Station.
Funny and cool, the a dedicated pedestrian way on the road instead of bicycle lane of something else.
    Taiwanese at Shihlin.
    Shopping on-going.
Little vendor selling mobile phone case.
    More Taiwanese.
Mu Gua Niu Nai, papaya milk shake, good for getting bigger boobs.
    Jelly on a stick.
    The jelly stick.
Game stall, a thing that you won’t find in Malaysian’s night market. Cute.
Ji Lie Ge. I didn’t find this stall in the must-eat of Shihlin, but I’ve to tell you after trying it, it’s a must-eat!
It’s just deep fried chicken cutlet which mixed with various sauces like garlic, cheese and soy sauce. The sauce is the bomb!
    Grilled scallops on a stick.
There’s a same stall in Gurney Plaza, Penang, and I guess this is the original one in Taiwan. As usual, awesome, but not cheap.
    More Taiwanese!
    More game stall. =D
    Bang.
    Bang bang.
Shihlin used to have food stalls by the roadside of the night market, but few years ago, the government built an underground space to accommodate all the food stalls to create a food section, underground. Many complains about it, but I find it fine.
As crowded and happenings as on the ground, the food choices are superb.
Bitter-gourd juice is my super favourite.
Tried the sesame pork kidney here. Exotic and delicious!
Pork Kidney with spring onion in sesame soy sauce.
Another street food to try – Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang, or literally means small sausage wrapped in big sausage.
    Sausage in making.
The outer layer is actually rice sausage and the inner sausage is the real sausage. Sweet and yummy! Must try!
  • Taipei Trip: Wu Fen Pu & Raohe Night Market

Taipei Trip: Wu Fen Pu & Raohe Night Market

Taipei Trip: Wu Fen Pu & Raohe Night Market (Day 3) – First of all, do not visit Wu Fen Pu Wholesale Garment Market on a Monday (go on other day but not Monday), because the people will not entertain you or sell you anything. You can touch, you can see but you just can’t buy! Sad, should have know this earlier. But nevermind, Raohe Night Market is just a stone throw away, we headed to the night market after a quick disappointed walk in Wu Fen Pu.
Bike sharing in Taipei, I like it!
I tell you, I want this pig pet, where can I find?!

    Cute little poodle.
I’ve read on the net that Raohe Night Market is one of the good night market in Taipei. To be honest, it’s good, in term of food choices, but not shopping. There’s nothing much to shop, eat is number one here, buy is number zero. Of course, do pay a visit to this place, because you can find some good eat here! Weather turned a bit colder when night falls, so visiting the night market was not a warm one.
Temple in front of Raohe Night Market, the place where you can find public toilet. (Raohe Night Market)
One of my favourite beverage in Taiwan – Bittergourd Juice. (Raohe Night Market)
As usual, night markets in Taipei are filled with tourists, of course locals too. The first thing to do, visit the the temple, go to the public washroom (temples are the good place for free public toilet) and have the hands washed, then we started the night market exploration.
Hu Jiao Bing. (Raohe Night Market)
Wu Jiao Bing (Pepper Biscuit) is a must try because there’s many people queuing for it. HAHA. It’s Chinese-style biscuit stuffed with a whole lot of pepper-marinated meat and yes, it’s indeed delicious.
Interestingly, there’s many this game store where you can win teddy bear. Only in Taiwan. (Raohe Night Market)
Herbal Pork Ribs Soup. Must try. There’s so many stalls at there, and you must be thinking which is the best. Well, they are they same to me. (Raohe Night Market)
Lu Rou Fan, all-time favourite. (Raaohe Night Market)
Herbal Pork Ribs Soup is another must try at there. The fragrance of Chinese herbs is very strong and tasty together with the essence of pork ribs. Well, it’s a modified version of our Bak Kut Teh I would say, but with a stronger herb taste and lighter in colour. An addition of Lu Rou Fan (again) do serves the meal well.
This person is selling deep fried Oreo biscuit, dare to try? (Raohe Night Market)
Taofu Fa Pudding, which I find it quite normal, just like normal sweet jelly. (Raohe Night Market)
They claim that the string treatment on the face can remove blackhead permanently. Seriously? (Raohe Night Market)
Huge sesame chicken drumstick. (Raohe Night Market)
Pork Liver soup, quite interesting. (Raohe Night Market)
Food doesn’t stop coming to us at Raohe Night Market. We had exotic pork liver soup and a huge chicken drumstick cooked with sesame oil which I find it somewhat special, and good too!
Handmade Bubble Pearl. (Raohe Night Market)
What a food-ful night at Raohe, ended with a Taiwanese bubble tea. We were lazy to walk to the MRT and cab was the solution to go back to the hotel.
  • Taipei Trip: Shida Night Market 师大夜市

Taipei Trip: Shida Night Market 师大夜市

Taipei Trip: Shida Night Market 师大夜市 (Day 1) – I went to Taipei for a week of leisure trip last month. After landed in Taipei and checked into the hotel, we did not want to waste any more time and headed straight to our first destination in Taipei – Shida Night Market.
As you know, Taiwan is famous for night market, how can we not visit them? Moreover we were so hungry and night market is the best place to fill up the empty stomach.
Shida Night Market is actually located right opposite of Shida University, and that’s where the name comes from. Unlike the famous Shihlin Night Market, this one is cater more to locals and also the university students.
I was pretty excited with my first exploration in Taipei but the night was pretty warm, about 24 degree celcius only. Nevertheless, Shida Night Market did not disappoint me. The food are very interesting, so do the small little fashion stalls and of course the very friendly locals, you just be amazed with the friendly locals at there. They smile to everyone, even if I took pictures of the stallss and never buy a food, they will also smile or say thank you. Taiwanese are awesome!
The night ended up with a couple shopping bags of cloths and a stomach filled with awesome Taiwan food.
One interesting Taiwanese food is 卤味, or English – Braised Aromatic Goodness, or simple English – food braised in aromatic brine! You will find stuff like pig’s organs, sausage, vegetable, mushrooms and more that are braised in aromatic brine. Onefamous and must try at Shida Night Market is the Deng Lung Lu Wei 灯笼卤味! It’s the most famous one and has a long queue.
Deep fried stinky toufu and it’s good and sinfu!
Pork liver soup which I find it’s nice! Do you realised that Taiwanese love animal’s organs?
Taiwanese version of fried oyster which I find Malaysia has a better one! Serious, trust me.
Spinach in Taiwanese style, not bad not bad.
    The blogger Nick Chan.
Another thing to try out – 盐水鸡 Salt Water Chicken, which is something like steamed chicken salted and added with spring onion. Quite and interesting street food.
Taiwan is a very pet-friendly country! You will see pretty and cute puppies everywhere!
Before ending the trip at Shida, I’d a bowl of Toufu Fa with bubble, they call it 粉圆 at there! Yummeh!
