429 HIMPUNAN HARAPAN RAKYAT at Han Chiang High School
429 HIMPUNAN HARAPAN RAKYAT at Han Chiang High School – Penangite are ready to bring UBAH to Putrajaya as I can see from last Monday’s gathering at Han Chiang High School. I was there, sweat and wet, together with 70,000 people, chanting UBAH, cheering, shouting, screaming. I felt unity among all. I felt, ‘Penang’. -

Sad Penang, Attacked By Blue Flags
Sad Penang, Attacked By Blue Flags – Beautiful Penang is very sad right now, with the attacked from blue flags, hanging everywhere in the island. Come on, it’s just an election, there’s no need to attack Penang with the huge number of flags! What an eyesore to us and the tourist and the world, sigh. Penang is sad, Penang is crying, please help Penang, I want my beautiful Penang back. -

Jeff Ooi At Bangkok Lane
Jeff Ooi At Bangkok Lane – 7 days before 13th General Election, on a not-so-typical Saturday night in Penang, just an hour before the clock strikes 12, there at the nostalgic Bangkok Lane, surrounded by colonial houses, gathered hundreds of Penangite standing on the road listening the political talk by Jeff Ooi of DAP. There I was, after my scrumptious Thai food dinner at Sungai Petani, a detour to Bangkok Lane to check out the ceramah. Not a big crowds, but I heard cheers and applause. Ubah we want. -

庙会 2013: Happening & Beautiful Chinese New Year In Penang
庙会 2013: Happening & Beautiful Chinese New Year In Penang – Looking at the photos below, I am sure that it’s another reason to visit Penang during Chinese New Year besides food. It’s culture, it’s people, it’s happening, it’s fun. I have been going to Miao Hui for quite a few years, they look the same to me, but it just never failed to impress visitors from other places and it’s an awesome day to bring your camera out for a little fun. I never thought of going to the Miao Hui this year because it’s all the same, but since I’d nothing to do, I went there with Alvin, brought my lovely Canon along, and shoot. Surprised to meet quite a number of familiar faces there too and ended chattering a lot and quite many shots.Well, this post is so delayed because it happened like 1.5 months back because I left my camera back in Penang, now I’ve got it, and you can get ready to put Penang into your next place to visit during Chinese New Year next year.

年初六 Snake Temple Festival
CNY 2013: 年初六 Snake Temple Festival – This year is the year of Snake and there’s a Snake Temple in Penang! Every year there’s a flame watching festival at the Snake Temple at Bayan Lepas. The level of flame will predict the good luck of the whole year. It is measured by the height of the flame, like how tall it is and will tell the luck whether it’s good, or bad. During this flame watching ceremony, many devotees flocks into the temple to pray for good luck and to see the flame watching ceremony too.

Food stalls in front of Snake Temple.

Entrance. In conjunction with the year of Snake, the flame watching festival at the Snake Temple was a big festival. Very BIG. The Snake Temple is not to pray to the snake or God of Snake, it’s just somehow the typical Taoist temple happens to attract the reptile to reside in the temple and so call Snake Temple.

Dear Clarice. =)
Well, Valentine’s Day, yeah, so, Valentine’s Day go to Snake Temple see flame watching and also play with snake and also pray! I bet my V Day is different with you guys. HAHA. It might not be romantic for you guys, but it is for us, to join the crowds, to join the snake and to explore the culture. =D

Venomous snake.

Doesn’t look cute. =.=
I tell you I am freaking scared of snake.
Clarice loves the snake more than me.

It’s really very happening and crowded at there and it’s great that we managed to catch the fireworks too.

China House & Busy Armenian Street
CNY 2013: 年初三 China House & Busy Armenian Street – Third day of Chinese New Year is getting more relax and not so hectic as before but then the traffic in this little island of Penang was building up as people has done Bai Nian, it’s time for everyone to go explore, eat and chill.Went to China House, my favourite cafe in George Town for a little afternoon tea with my parents and to show dad around as he’d never been there before. It was super duper crowded on that day as the whole cafe was almost full-house. Luckily, I did manage to get a table.
Just across the street of China House is Armenian Street, the place of the famous bicycle mural and because of Chinese New Year Holiady, tourists were queuing to to take a shot with the famous made by Ernest Zacharevic! It’s madness, it’s happiness!

CNY 2013: 年初2 PSY Gangnam Style x2 Penang
CNY 2013: 年初2 PSY Gangnam Style x2 Penang – BN said it’s just a cultural Chinese New Year open house for the Penangite, no political agenda behind it, but how do you explain the thousands of blue Barisan National & 1Malaysia flags in Penang which are dangerous to the motorist and unsightful to the beautiful Penang. If you are in Penang, it’s just madness.Monday morning, 2nd day of Chinese New Year was extraordinary hot yet I was very excited to see PSY’s Gangnam Style at the Barisan National Chinese New Year Open House Celebration at Han Chiang’s High School. Surprisingly, there’s not much of traffic jam on the road, instead it’s human jam at the venue. I was there to see PSY, not Prime Minister, nor other government officials.
Eyesore, unsightful flags. It’s really very hot, I regretted did not bring an umbrella with me and a big bottle of ice cold water. The scorching heat of the sun could anytime dehydrate me and caused me to faint. I was seeking for shade, squatting down among the sea of human to get some shade from the 35 degree cel direct solar heat. The venue was filled with everyone, Malaysians, it’s not just Malaysian Chinese, but Malay, Indian too. Many were there to see PSY, many were there to get free food too. I wonder how many were there to actually see the PM?Manage to hear the nice voice of Shila Hamza, later then the speech of Teng Chang Yeow (Penang BN Leader) & Najib Razak (Prime Minister) caused some laughter among the crowds as they were not what the crowds wanted to see most. Feel bad for them as crowd was booing for Teng Chang Yeow, saying NO when Najib shouted ‘Are you ready for BN?’, Rosmah singing Chinese New Year song and Najib failed to invite PSY for lou sang. Hahaha. Too bad. After 1.5 hours being under the hot sun, PSY appeared, after the long winded speech by Teng, Najib and singing of Rosmah! Oh gosh! The excitement increased more than 100%! Took a few photos of him in a rush and get myself into the tune and rhythm of Gangnam Style! Oppa! Very sad to see that the front crowds was busy taking video and photo of him, come on, you see him all the time on the Internet and it’s time to join the Gangnam dance. Luckily, happily, PSY did the Gangnam Style the second time! And this time, he managed to get the crowds dancing along! SHIOKNESS!After PSY, time to go, took about half an hour to get out of this place. Very bad crowd control and went to look for fluid to re-hydrate Very hot. Well, very happy to see PSY and enjoyed my 10 minutes with Gangnam Style. BEST CNY! Thanks BN for bringing PSY, but you still are not my favourite political party in Malaysia.
Gangnam T-shirt!
PSY Head!
Lot’s of Lion Dance head at there, seriously, a lot!
Uncle Choi Shen! God of Wealth.
Happy happy!
They probably does not know what’s going on the stage. They were probably waiting for PSY, or free food, maybe?
Uncle preparing food.
OK, met Kok Sheng who was helper at there. No political influence, just a random helper, and thanks to him only I get entrance ticket into the area near the stage.
The ticket.
Some argued because they don’t get to go in. Very bad crowd control, serious.
Trust me, you don’t want to stand under this weather, 35 degree celcius, direct solar heat, cloudless.
=(
Brother!
Favourite T-shirt.
Shila Hamzah is awesome!
Unfavourable Teng Chang Yeow.
Unfavourable bunch of political people. NAJIB, ROSMAH, NG YEN YENG & more.
MC, DJ for PSY!
‘Are you ready for GANGNAM?!’
PSY PSY PSY PSY. REALLY VERY HIGH!
Go home right after PSY, didn’t care what happened after PSY. -

Trip To Penang: Pulau Tikus Lok-Lok & RED KTV
Trip To Penang: Pulau Tikus Lok-Lok & RED KTV – This is the last part of my Trip To Penang series and I’m gonna blog about something else already. Yay? Anyway, after an afternoon at the beach, we actually went to Gurney Plaza for a little walkaround and dinner, but that’s not the main thing, the main thing was what happened after that and that’s to eat Lok-lok at Pulau Tikus and later chill out at RED KTV.Penang’s Lok-lok is famous, especially at Pulau Tikus because of its cheap prices, varieties of sticks and also varieties of sauces, that you can hardly find elsewhere. How can I not bring my friend to check out this Lok-lok place? By the way, it’s again a private tour for this few friends because I do not drive a van. After lok-lok, a short tour at Straits Quay for them to check out the high end part of Penang where high end yachts are docked and a beautiful seafront promenade is. It’s time to get amazed. Penang is not just a UNESCO World Heritage City with old houses, but there’s a nice modern part developing around the island.Last segment of the day was a chill out session at RED KTV at Bellisa Row which I’ve not been for quite some times already. Still has the very strong smoky air, but karaoke at there was funner as lesser people were there and the lounge added a pool table for free play. So now I conclude my Trip To Penang and it was a fun trip with my classmate and hopefully there will be more trip like this. -

Trip To Penang: Batu Ferringhi Beach
Trip To Penang: Batu Ferringhi Beach – Site analysis for assignment done! Now head to the beach, for some leisure time. It’s quite random and weird for a big group of people to head to the beach without a proper swim wear and the duration was just 2 hours. Some of the international students did really go for the water sports which cost as high as RM50-RM100. I don’t really know about the pricing as I was just camwhoring around with my friends, enjoying the sea breeze and seeing the other class of students parasailing and banana boating. Interesting! I want to play water sports, but not in Penang’s beach, Phuket maybe?By the way, look back to this, it’s funny also, because 3PM under the scorching hot sun, at the beach, nothing to do.
Headcount: Me, Arvin, Jia Hui, Steve and Wesley. These faces will appear throughout the post. So one time of headcount is enough. =D
Jump one. Looking funny. HAHA
Jump two and I like my jump!
This is Farah!
Ouchhhh.
…….. What poses are these?
Tired face after the beach. Resting at one of the closed down cafe in Gurney Plaza – Ice Ice Baby.
Farah and Jia Hui. Looking happy!
