Vienna: A Day In Innere Stadt, The Old Town Of Vienna

Eastern Europe Trip // Vienna: A Day In Innere Stadt, The Old Town Of Vienna – After visiting to so many European cities, I realised that almost all of them have a ‘Old Town’, with the exception of London. The ‘Old Town’ is probably the main attraction as well as the historic core of the city where it is a must-visit place for all.

This goes to Vienna where the ‘Old Town’ is called the Innere Stadt (The First District or “inner city”). It is one of Vienna’s liveliest areas and also one of the most historic with monumental Baroque structures acting as a testament to this fact. This is where you can get a firsthand look at the glory of the Habsburg Empire. Shopping, food, Parliament building, old cathedral, Opera House and more can be found in this lovely inner city. Vienna is a very beautiful city, which holds the title of ‘World Most Livable City’. It’s something different coming from Budapest, Krakow, Bratislava and Warsaw. The city showcases a blend of art, music, style and friendliness.

3 days 2 night in Vienna and this first day, which was also the Christmas’ Eve was spent by wandering around the streets and narrow medieval alleys past the high end luxurious labels, restaurants and cafes, as well as some historical attractions nearby. Not to mention, we’ve got scammed by the concert salesman who were selling classical music concert which is very famous in Vienna! Damn, but we still at least refunded part of the money from the guy.

NOTE: Do not buy any ticket of classical music or opera from ticket seller wearing traditional clothes! Why I say it’s a scam is because I’ve found out on the Internet that all of these performance are not from professional performers, yet they are selling at a very high price which they claim that it’s cheaper to see at the Opera House, or Music Theater.

THE TIP: If you are on budget and want to experience the opera or classical music, there’s always standing ticket available at less than 10EUR, but you have to queue early. I’ll talk about it in another post.

    Holburg Palace.

Some kids baking activity at Rathaus, the city hall.

Something interesting here, sky high parking rate of a first world country.

Read the board, definitely meaning sarcastically on Starbuck’s face. LOL.

It’s still a busy day in the city on Christmas Eve before sunset.

St Stephen Cathedral with a beautiful patterned roof.

The nicest H&M outlet that I’ve ever been to!

Domincan Church that has a beautiful oval dome! The church is also known as Church of St. Maria Rotunda with a strong Baroque influence.

He’s really a good salesman that had conned us into buying the ticket. We found out about the con when I was Googling about the show while resting at a cafe and they all returned negative reviews for it.

Looks just beautiful after lights up.

  • Bratislava: A Slow & Peaceful Capital Of Slovakia

Bratislava: A Slow & Peaceful Capital Of Slovakia

Eastern Europe Trip // Bratislava: A Slow & Peaceful Capital Of Slovakia – Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and I only knew about this place while I was planning for this Eastern Europe trip. As Slovakia lies between Krakow and Budapest, we did a stop at the capital of Slovakia before proceeding to Budapest, only then we head to Vienna and Prague. The route is kind of weird as Bratislava is already so close to Vienna yet, our next destination was Budapest which is so much further than Vienna. Nevertheless, Bratislava was a mid-point stop for the trip.

After a good night sleep in the sleeper and crazy journey to the train station from Poprad, we arrived in a chilled Winter morning with a cloudy day. The capital does not looks like a typical capital, it’s untidy, buildings are short and it’s slow pace. A switch of currency from Polish Zloty to Euro suddenly spiked up the calculation in mind. Despite of that, it’s still much cheaper comparing to other Euro countries.

One night would, or perhaps just a day would be more than enough in Bratislava, but we had two night at there! First day was just eat and sleep for us, no sightseeing as the city didn’t really attract us. It was still a good chillax first day in our hostel and surrounding. Initially, we planned to follow a free walking tour in the old town, but we couldn’t find the gang, or maybe we were just too late. Well, it’s still a free walking tour, but on our own! The old town of Bratislava somewhat amazed me, although looks similar with other Stare Miasto (old town). There’s still the crowds that made up the atmosphere, moreover it was Christmas, the second day was good. As usual, we checked out the free stuff, Christmas Market, Bratislava Castle and just wandered around the small streets and alleys. It was not that bad after all, but don’t expect much of Bratislava, it’s very peaceful. Yeah.

    -1C in the morning!

This city looks very old. It makes me feel that Malaysia is so much better.

@ a typical and quite famous Slovak restaurant which I’ve forgotten about the name. It lies on the main street.

Some weird soup that taste nto bad.

So called Slovak Dumpling! Goat cheese, ham and the fillings.

Our typical anti-social activity at the hostel, TVB & Youtube.

Misinterpret Vietnamese food as Chinese food, yet they are just similar. Hoang Nam (restaurant name), I miss you!

  • Krakow: A Night Out In Stare Miasto, The Old Town

Krakow: A Night Out In Stare Miasto, The Old Town

Eastern Europe Trip // Krakow: A Night Out In Stare Miasto, The Old Town – It was a disappointing evening at the Wieliczka Salt Mine as we couldn’t get to visit it. We took our slow time back to our hostel without rushing like Amazing Race as before, then spent some times talking to backpackers and rest. As th night was still young, we didn’t want to waste the last night at Krakow, moreover we didn’t really explore the Old Town yet, so we did a night tour of Stare Miasto, instead of sleeping at the hostel.

A tourist city is always filled with people, so as Krakow too. Touring at Krakow’s Old Town at night still feels better than touring Warsaw ‘s Stare Miasto at night as there’s still people walking around, chattering can be heard in the air, and camera flashes occasionally at the attractions.

Warsaw: Stare Miasto (Old Town) Revisited In Daytime

Warsaw: Stare Miasto (Old Town) Revisited In Daytime – Day 3 of Warsaw was serious for us, no more waking up late as this is the last day for us! Only two places to visit on this day and that’s to Stare Miasto (Old Town) again to have a better view in daytime and also to check out the Palace of Culture & Science, and that’s it for Warsaw.

Third day in Warsaw and I still didn’t get a glimpse of the sun, it’s cloudy but the fog was away already and the vision was getting clearer, but it’s still cold, at about 3-4 degree celcius. We took the tram to Stare Miasto as it’s quite convenient which connects directly to the main square of old town. Both night and daytime visit gave a different perspective of the place, there’s more tourist and people during daytime and it gets beautiful when it lights up at night during Christmas. So I was quite happy I’ve visited the place twice during day and night.
