Malacca Trip: Afternoon Walkaround Jonker Walk / Jalan Hang Jebat

The above photo is actually the Tang’s House which was the guesthouse that we stayed in. Very good service, good room and good rate at only RM55 for two bed room. It’s just located at the end of the famous Jonker Walk which also known as Jalan Hang Jebat and there’s a parking area at RM2 per full day, great!

We couldn’t check in because we were too early, so left our stuff there and went for a walk to look for lunch on the famous Jonker Walk.

    Nice Jonker Boutique Hotel.

    A temple on Jonker Street.

    Some rehearsal going on.

The weather that day was as usual, hot, no rain. If there’s little drizzle would be perfect but no. It’s freaking hot and I regretted not bring an umbrella with me. We just try to walk where there’s shade to cover ourselves from the sun. Haha. Perspiration got out pretty soon we walked for about 5 minutes.

    Pineapple tart! =)

Though, it’s still nice checking the place out and taking photos.

Jonker Walk is famous for its night market which happens on weekends night and we came in a right time because it’s a Friday. Although it’s only happenings at night, but then there’s still shops to shop for stuff like t-shirt, and souvenirs which you will find it the same at the night market.

    <3 Hueisean.

This is an old street featuring all the heritage shop houses built during the British and Dutch colony and this is more like a Chinatown to Malacca because long long time ago, this street was inhabitat by Chinese mostly. I like how they decorate and preserve the shop houses, unlike Penang, it’s so run down and ugly. Malacca really work hard on preserving their old buildings now.

A garden in the middle of the street, to be exact, house a public toilet in it.

Besides that, you will find a lot of antique shops and also clan house for different Chinese’s surname at there. It’s all gather at one place and not spreaded out like Penang, maybe because of this place is small. Malacca is really a super small state.

It’s pretty quiet during the day, but then when it comes to night, you can’t imagine how happenings it is, but on weekend only. I hope there’s place like this in Penang too, perhaps Campbell Street? Sadly, the Penang’s government haven’t take initiative in working this out.

Remember, it’s best to bring along an umbrella or wear a hat, it’s for the hot weather, super hot. =)

And finally we found famous chicken rice ball at the other end of Jonker Walk, which is known to be the start of it, but then that chicken rice ball (Jonker Chicken Rice Ball) was not a nice one. Recommend to try Hor Kee or Farmosa Chicken Rice Ball.

After lunch. We went to walk around the Dutch Square. Don’t want go back to the guesthouse just to check-in, so we went checking around the places before going back so it won’t waste our leg energy. Haha.

  • Malaysia’s Westports KL Dragons vs Indonesia’s Satria Muda at MABA Stadium

Malaysia’s Westports KL Dragons vs Indonesia’s Satria Muda at MABA Stadium

I never know that Malaysia has a basketball team, I never know that Asian are active in the basketball scene except China. Now I want to let you know that Malaysia has a professional basketball team and it’s not kampung style basketball. They are the Westports KL Dragons. Yeah!

Recently, I was invited to go check out a basketball game betweet Westports KL Dragons versus Satria Muda which is from Indonesia at MABA (Malaysia Basketball Association) Stadium in town, near to Stadium Merdeka there. It’s the opening game of the AirAsia Asean Basketball League. Not so familiar about it? Nevermind, now you know it, it’s cool, it’s professional, it’s happening. ASEAN countries compete with each other in the league, just like NBA, but this is ASEAN.

I have never been to a real basketball match before and this is really my golden opportunity. I drove to town with Han Teik, my housemate and also a basketball fan to check out the game and we were pretty excited because it’s our first real professional basketball match. It’s International man.

I didn’t really know where is the MABA Stadium is and luckily I have a GPS with me which lead me to my destination. It’s somewhere near Petaling Street and Stadium Merdeka. If you want to take the LRT, you can get off at Pasar Seni on KJ Line and walk there.

    Han Tek.

S.O.X. is the official telco sponsor for Westports KL Dragons. =D Rocks. If you are S.O.X. members, you can get home game ticket at 20% off, which is very cheap! Good right, buy cheap ticket and come and support Malaysia. The next game will be happening this weekend 30/10/2010 where KL Dragons fight with Brunei Barracudas. Yeah, come MABA Stadium.

Back talking about the game. The stadium was pretty cool, with air-conditioned but then it’s not like what you see on NBA where there’s big TV hanging in the middle of the stadium. I was there early and the team were training by themselves.

It’s not some lousy game, the whole stadium was filled with basketball fans. The scene was really very very cool.

    Media pass, yeah!

    Cute mascot.

You know, when I saw the players, they don’t look like typical Asian to me, they are huge!

Hot cheerleading dance by S.O.X. during half time.

The game rocks man. It was so exciting and so nervous and Malaysia KL Dragons team really amaze me a lot with all the basketball tricks and skill and dunks. Damn wonderful. Well, if you are a Malaysian, please support our very own Westports KL Dragons. And also at the same time, support the sponsor, S.O.X. =D

  • Went to KL to Check Out MIFF with Dad

Went to KL to Check Out MIFF with Dad

    IMG_6899 by nicholaschan.

Last weekend, there’s a exhibition/expo happened in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. It’s the Malaysia International Furniture Fair. Dad is in part of the furnishing business so he brought us along to Kuala Lumpur. Usually, going there would be more likely a shopping trip for me and mommy but somehow, I didn’t really buy anything. It’s more like a business-acompany trip, nothing to buy actually and there’s no sale in Malaysia.

    IMG_6900 by nicholaschan.

To be honest, I am not really into the furniture and related expo, I only interested in something like Electronic Gaming Expo or the Consumer Electronics Show, Tokyo Game Show or perhaps the Taiwan Computex. They’re cool and bombastic gadgets show, which I like! Somehow, I need to be interested in furniture because I will be doing interior design course in college. Yeah.

Quite a lovely rainy day in Kuala Lumpur, it rained so big, the cats and dogs type of rain, it’s nice because it had been very hot weather since Chinese New Year. Temperature here in Malaysia is sky rocket high.

It’s interesting that the MIFF was not located on one venue only, it’s spread out to 3 convention hall, the KLCC, PWTC and MECC. I didn’t really have the feel to tour KL so was just following daddy here and there to do his business.

After finish touring the exhibition hall, we went to check-in at the hotel. We stayed at Concorde. It’s a walk-in as I tried to book hotel but many hotels were fully booked and it’s quite last minute too. Thankfully, there’s still room in Concorde.

Penang also got Jalan P. Ramlee.

We then walked to Avenue K which just right opposite KLCC. From the hotel to Avenue K is like 15 minutes away only, very close, and passed by the night life district.

Have been to KL for so many times, been shopping in Suria KLCC for so many times and it’s my first time getting so close to KLCC, right below it. I now only believe that it’s so magnificent even though it’s not the tallest now. Still, it’s the tallest STAINLESS STEEL TWIN tower in the world. ^^

It’s really a beautiful building and it’s a must visit and photograph if you come to Malaysia.

Avenue K is actually a shopping mall, but then no idea why, there’s no shop inside. There’s only a few restaurant and we went there for dinner. I actually visited the supercondo above Avenue K before, it was like last year. =)

Nice uncle living in KL brought us to this Ah Yat Abalone chinese restaurant. Nice food, nice place!

    IMG_6974 by nicholaschan.

After dinner, I went to Suria KLCC to window shop a while because it’s still early and I didn’t want to go back to the hotel so soon, as there’s no Internet access also. So might as well stay outside a little while longer. Only then we walked back to the hotel. Then sleep. ^^

The next day, went to visit Taylor’s College Lakeside Campus, very beautiful and only then a real window shopping at Suria KLCC again where dad went to visit to MIFF, KLCC hall. Then came back to Penang in evening. Yeah!
