China Trip – Shanghai: Ferry From Pudong To Huangpu 上海轮渡 (Day 4) – Penang has the ferry, Hong Kong has the ferry, New York has the ferry, Shanghai too has ferry service connecting Huangpu and Pudong in between the Huangpu River. Brother and I were at Pudong area and we wanted to go back to Huangpu area where the old Shanghai city is and from there, we wanted to enjoy the night view of beautiful Pudong Shanghai, so we went to take a ride on the Shanghai Ferry.

We couldn’t find the ferry at first, it’s not clear on the Google Maps and we actually went the wrong way. Ended we took a cab to the ferry terminal located on Tangqiao Road. The ferry will take you to The Bund and it costs only RMB2. You can pay with Shanghai Transportation Card too!

Well, the ferry is just for ferry, nothing much cool about it, unlike Hong Kong’s or Penang’s which has a long history about the ferry. The Shanghai’s Ferry is enclosed and has heater in it. One weird thing is that it’s call 轮渡 (Lun2 Du4) instead of 渡輪 (Du4 Lun2) in Mandarin. We normally call it Du4 Lun2 in my hometown – Penang.

It’s pretty fast, takes about 10 minutes+ to reach the other side of the river. And then we started capturing photos and enjoying the view of Shanghai. Share with you in the next post. =)

Bangkok Trip: Tha Tien Pier Ferry (Day 4): It’s day 4 of my trip in Bangkok last week, on the fourth day, it’s a sightseeing trip in Bangkok instead of shopping and night market exploring. Was thinking of going to the floating market, but then I found out it’s one and a half hour away from Bangkok city and the Thonbori district, which is far away. Review of the famous floating market is not so nice afterall. There’s review of the river is very stinky, it’s so tourist centric and what a waste of time.

I would like to go find it out myself next time, but since I have a day left, I took the day for some major tourist attractions like the Wat Arun, Wat Pho Reclining Buddha and Grand Palace which is near to Bangkok city.

On the illegal cab to Tha Tien Pier. For only 100Baht, he took us to the Gem shop for a tour before heading to Tha Tien. It’s a famous Gem shop scam, but for that price of cab, it’s worth it, we didn’t buy anything though. Haha

    Passed by Grand Palace

Our first stop was Wat Arun which is on the other side of Chao Phraya river, so it’s either bridge of boat. But then bridge is too far, so boat is the ideal and best transport to go to the other side of the river. Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Grand Palace are all near to each other only. First we take a cab to Tha Tien Pier to sit the water taxi which ferry people across the river for as low as 3Baht per person per way! That’s only like RM0.30/US$0.09. It’s so cheap!

    Man transporting cooking gas.

    Tha Tien Pier at far.

    Selling salted fish and more.

Tha Tien Pier is located right opposite of Wat Pho and Grand Palace, there’s a market that sells many food and also beverage stalls along the way. It’s good to chill with some cold coconut juice on a Sunny day. The temperature was really high that day at 35 degree cel, very crazy. Luckily we have umbrella with us.

A market at outside of Tha Tien Pier.

    Tha Tien Pier.

Dear Hueisean sipping on a cold coconut.

    Making Thai’s salad.

    The Tha Tien Pier.

    Wat Arun, pyramid-like holy tower.

The water taxi comes and goes every 15 minutes, it’s very convenient but then a little bit unsafe, however if you sit still and don’t walk much, it’s pretty safe. So after arriving on the other side of the island, you need not to walk far to reach Wat Arun, it’s just located on the left hand side outside the pier. You can see the Wat Arun pyramid-like spiritual tower from here.

  • Sit Ferry Go Raja Uda Eat Dinner

Sit Ferry Go Raja Uda Eat Dinner

On a lovely dating night, I went over to Raja Uda, Butterworth with Hueisean. It started getting bored with food in Penang and have decided to take the vehicle onto the ferry, ferrying from the island to the mainland to seek for alternative food.

We were actually quite excited to dine at the famous tomyam noodle place on Jalan Raja Uda, unfortunately, both the famous stall didn’t open that night. I have to stop by the road side, go Google search where to eat.

It was not my first ferry ride or 2nd or 3rd, it fifth or sixth I think. Haha. It’s not that excited anymore, but still I wanted to go down the car to take some snapshot so it could turn into a memory or something. It’s always full of car at every time of the day.

    Blah. Camwhore a bit.

Then we reached Who’s Bryan Cafe at Raja Uda. =D

Away to PLKN (Day 67): After Chen Yuen’s 18th Birthday At The Penang Ferry

After Chen Yuen’s 18th Birthday dinner at Tao, Autocity, we went back to Penang island. But then, we didn’t go back by bridge but we went back by the ferry instead. We didn’t to reach Penang so fast and want to blow some sea wind, so went to take the ferry. The toll rate are just almost the same, only that ferry is FUNNER.

Ferry Ride to Butterworth with Friends

    IMG_2399 by nicholaschan.

During the holiday, I went to Butterworth with a few friends via the ferry instead of using the Penang’s Bridge. I don’t really always go to the mainland of Penang, it’s mostly factories at there, so nothing much for me to go over there. I tend to stick to the island more. However, that day was different, my friend went there to interview for a job and I followed along just for fun.

New place in town, Bar 36 The Social Club.

We parked our car at the parking lot near the ferry terminal and then went to the ferry. The parking was RM3 for half day and the ferry ride was free for going to the mainland. Ferry ride coming to the island need to pay though.

    IMG_2405 by nicholaschan.

The weather on that day was pretty nice, not very sunny, a little bit cloudy.

    IMG_2409 by nicholaschan.

It’s very windy on the ferry. No idea how fast it’s moving on the sea, but I know it’s fast.

    IMG_2422 by nicholaschan.

    Many giraffe at the back.

We went there, looked for the job interview then took the bus to inner mainland to the AEON Jusco Seberang Jaya shopping mall to take a look. Then we went back to the ferry terminal before sunset. It’s so convenient.
