  • Awesome Hindu’s Thaipusam Festival At Batu Caves

Awesome Hindu’s Thaipusam Festival At Batu Caves

Jam at MRR2 near to Batu Caves.

Thaipusam o Thaipusam. Last time, friends always invited me to go photoshoot at Thaipusam but I always didn’t go with them. Last year, I got to see a little part of Thaipusam happened at Dato Keramat of Penang where people throw coconut for praying and I got to join in with my friend Arron and Chien Chern.

When I was back in Penang few weeks ago, I thought “OMG, I am gonna miss Thaipusam this year because I will not be in Penang at that time”. Then I thought again, “I can celebrate and check it out in KL!”.

Parking by the roadside like 2KM before Batu Caves. Really crazy man. Clap for us as we parked close. Hehe.

Yeah, KL, Kuala Lumpur is one of the place that celebrate Thaipusam too, besides Penang. So on the day itself, I didn’t go there as early as those photography enthusiast does, I went there after lunch in the afternoon with Arron again, but this time not Chien Chern, instead is a girl, Carmen from Penang too! Both of them residing far at Sepang and only get to come down to town during holidays and went to check out the Thaipusam festival at Batu Caves.

At first we thought of not going there because was afraid of traffic congestion and hard to find parking but after checking through the net about the traffic, it was just all clear only until near to Batu Caves. Really surprise that the traffic was super duper smooth all the way from Bandar Sunway to MRR2 near Batu Caves, there’s not even a little jam, really weird. LDP is an expressway that is always jam or slow but that day was just an exception.

While our vehicle getting close to Batu Caves, there’s already vehicle parking by the roadside as far as 2KM from Batu Caves. We didn’t want to park there as it was hot and we kept on believe that there will be parking space for us at a nearer spot.

There’s even illegal parking collector collecting a fee of RM10. Being a stingy person, we didn’t want to park there and we got moving and we found a nice place, just less than 500m from Batu Caves, according to the GPS. Haha.

Me, Arron and Carmen. All Penang-kia.

We should have take the KTM to Batu Caves as the station was just right beside it. But one thing, KTM sucks! Slow and dirty.

Yay, we reached Batu Caves safely and I was pretty excited because I got to take photos. I should have bring my DSLR with me but then this trip to Batu Caves was quite spontaneous as we didn’t really plan the trip. Luckily I have my Panasonic with me and it served me well all the time.

The weather was pretty hot and sunny. Perhaps it’s Thaipusam. Anyway, since we were here, so it’s nothing good of hiding under the shade, so we just keep walking where everyone was walking to, the cave, the Batu Caves.

Well, Tzu-Chi went there to remind people not to throw rubbish on the floor but…

In case you don’t know, Thaipusam is a religious festival of the Hindu. According to Wikipedia, Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (January/February).

Rocks is that Malaysia is a multi-racial country where I can join the fun too! =)

Outside the famous Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple.

Frankly, I felt I was in Indian when I was there. Haha. It’s Indian anywhere! And they are friendly too. =)

Your current Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib. Haha. He is real big.

    I say peace as it’s awesome. =)

    Red Air Asia clowns. Cute.

Saw many sponsor booths at there and one of which is Air Asia which attracted me as the booth had the most crowds. Though, I didn’t get close because I didn’t know what was speaking on the speaker, it’s all tamil and I knew nothing, except “nan-de-ri” or something which means thank you.

    Slums of Batu Caves.

Well, what you see is Malaysia, not India. It’s just not good with the trash management where trash are everywhere. I was actually keen to see Indian poking mouths and body but instead, I only saw them carrying the heavy kawadee up hill to the cave. As for poking stuff, I saw it in Penang last time.

Us before going out and was trying to capture the statue behind but failed.

Well, I have no idea what the people standing by the rail were looking at, it sounds as if we were supe
rstar, just without the red carpet.

    Awesome art craft.

The cave wasn’t very tall or high after all, like about 5-6 storeys high but then the stairs up there was very steep. I really salute the people who carry the kawadee up, and kawadee is the thing that they carry on the back with their god statue on it.

Here we go. Up and down.

Another thing I saw was, the Indian devotees went up the stairs barefooted! It was a hot day and they walked barefooted. Really power.

Since there’s so many people on the stairs, we walked slowly and carefully, about 15 minutes, we reached the top. Many medical helpers were on standby there as some were almost fainted due to the heat.

Beautiful huge cave. I like it.

It was my first time being a nature cave and it is pretty. I love caves now. It’s not just a hole in the hill but it’s really a big caves which can house many people in there and there’s also a hole on top overlooking the sky. It would be creepy during full moon where moon shines in and a werewolf or vampire turned up. Haha.

    Monkeys!

    Smiling Indian kid.

Can you see the crowds? They just keep flowing in the cave.

Spent about 10 minutes in there, walking around and take a little photos then we went back down. It was just too crowded in there and a little bit smelly, no idea what smell was that..

It wasn’t that traffic jam when we was there, it was after we came. Really powerful.

And again, they were standing by the rail and looking at us. Hmm. Superstar?

    Yummy juicy coconut!

The weather turned a little bit hotter after we came down and it was just burning all over our skins. How I wish I could get into an air-conditioned place as soon as possible and then we found coconut stalls. Bought a coconut for each of us then we drank, really quenching and the coconut meat was so awesome, young and juicy. Rocks. Only downside was that it’s not cold. It’s warm!

And so, I concluded my trip to Batu Caves and we all said it was real awesome. Another place is visited in Kuala Lumpur, time to go for the next place. =D Any recommendation of place to go in Selangor area?

  • 1st Day Of 2011 At Tao Auto City And Snow At Sunway Carnival Mall

1st Day Of 2011 At Tao Auto City And Snow At Sunway Carnival Mall

The first week of 2011 new year has passed, I want to wish you all Happy New Year, Happy One Week. =D Today I want to talk about a part of the happenings on the first day of 2011 which falls on a Saturday, last week of today. Last year, I can’t recall where I went, the first day usually simple and just a normal day to me because the night before was a blast, late sleeping and stuff. Rested for the whole morning and afternoon on the first day, then I went to Tao Japanese Buffet at Auto City with the Leo Club friends.

It had been some times I didn’t go out in a such a big gang already. The people present that night has total of 25. Woo. It’s actually also a surprise celebration of someone which you will see down below.

We went for the early session which starts from 5.30pm until 8.30pm. It’s eat-all-you-can buffet style where you order as much as you can and they will serve you. The last visit was March 2010 to celebrate Zhen Yuen’s birthday at there.

This time wasn’t so enjoying because there’s too many people and the waiter couldn’t serve each of us well. Food came in very slow and the 2 side tables beside the main one always get neglected, turn up people sitting beside, like me has to steal food from the main table. Haha.

Met friends that haven’t been seeing for sometimes, met new friends that I never see before. But it’s kinda nice dinner because everyone can sit down, chit chat and jokes about stuff.

Then the birthday cake came in out of no where. I didn’t even know it was a birthday surprise celebration for 18 years old Tict Chyn and the birthday cake just came in suddenly.

Her birthday was actually 5 days later but it’s an early surprise celebration. Not bad. We get free cakes to eat. =D I am not sure Tao got expensive or it was a public holiday, a person costs RM58 after +, expensive? I thought last time was around RM50. Hmm.

    Me, Joel and Jocelyn.

After eat, after desserts then it was a little bit of photo session. Didn’t really take much photo because there’s 3 more DSLR on-site and they are better photographer than me. Me is just life-logging. Haha.

    Cindy!

    Caster, me and Daniel.

Kah Sing and Lansi Jocelyn. =D

Cindy, Jocelyn, me, Min Xiang, Kah Sing, Yi Jun.

It was still early after having our super full dinner. It was just 8.30pm and we have no place to go and out of no where, a voice said “To Sunway Carnival Mall We Go”. And so we journeyed to Sunway Carnival Mall. I was so gladful that I arrived there without using a GPS. =D The reason I was not using a GPS was because I am pro, no, it’s because I couldn’t find the POI on it. Haha.

    162691_489619766961_621186961_6596231_7290338_n

Walk around the mall pointlessly, simply walk and talk and do stupid things like talking loud in Parkson shopping centre. Then we stood still at the centre atrium for 5 minutes, less than 25 people mini flash mobs. I can’t resist myself to smile during that time but still turn up to be a nice effect in the mall. =D

Then suddenly it felt warm because of 2 spotlights at the ceiling and in a suddenly, white floss coming down from the sky, no it’s not snowing, it’s snowing, no it’s not snowing practically, but it’s snowing, fakely.

A nice scene and moment of form-made artificial snow drop down from the ceiling. It’s beautiful.

    Happy New Year people. =)

  • Bandung Travel: Fly From KLIA To Bandung Then Check-In At Sensa Hotel

Bandung Travel: Fly From KLIA To Bandung Then Check-In At Sensa Hotel

Hello people, I think it’s time to share some traveling post with you guys. As you know, I went to Bandung, the cheap outlet shopping heaven of East Indonesia. It’s also my first visit and first step into the simple red and white flag, Indonesia, the neighbour country to Malaysia. I never thought of going to Indonesia all the time until I met a few Indonesian friend in university, they share about their culture and life at home then I found it’s kinda interesting.

When talking about Indonesia, most people know about Jakarta and Bali, I am not sure about Bandung. I think it only started to be famous just recently with the bloom of fashion outlet business. Bandung is well-known for selling branded clothing at outlet store, don’t know authentic or fake.

Anyway, I went to Bandung. =D Instead of flying from Penang, we flew from KLIA, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It’s my second time being at this airport, the first time was very very super duper young like 10 years ago? I don’t really remember the outlook and the inner look of my home country’s biggest airport.

I have been to quite a few big airport in the world like the Changi Airport in Singapore, Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou, Hong Kong Airport and so on. KLIA is huge but it made me disappointed because it’s not cool like airport at other country. The crowds were not there, it’s pretty quiet and I didn’t see much international flight. In term of airport shopping experience, there’s not many cool shop when compare to the Changi Airport in Singapore or even the Bangkok’s. Hope that they could improve their service and bring in more tourists and airport user.

So we took Malaysian Airlines to go to Bandung. As far as I know, Air Asia does fly to Bandung too and I don’t know already. Since Malaysian Airlines have almost the same rate as Air Asia that time, we picked Malaysian Airline because they have better hospitality on board with air-meals.

Forgot to mention the time that I went to Bandung, it was mid-August. =)

It was a afternoon flight and we were already there since 9am. Actually dad, mom and brother came from Penang to KL and I was in KL meet up with them. After checking in our luggage and ticket, we proceeded into the departure terminal. Due to nothing to shop or see in there, we spent our morning at Old Town White Coffee.

It’s a nice place to sit down and wait for flight as it’s just by the window, over looking the airfield and airplanes. Just sad that there’s not much airplanes going up and coming down and one funny thing is that it’s all Malaysian Airlines, I didn’t see other airlines, maybe that side was cater to Malaysian Airlines only.

From Kuala Lumpur to Bandung took about 2 hours. We got on the planes, sit for a while and the air-meal was served already. Not bad, kinda nice then I stuck my head on the windows all the time and didn’t want to take a nap, hoping that I could see superman flying in the sky. Haha, just kidding.

Sooner, I see lands and hills, a big piece of lands, different from hometown  Penang where you will see seas, then I know I am there already. It’s hilly and the terrain are not flat. Bad urban planning and it’s buildings are not built “organizedly”.

The plane landed and I see a mini airport, looks a bit like the old airport of Penang, or the one at Phuket, Thailand.

There’s only a helicopter and our plane at there, no more and the cute thing is that there’s only one landing and take off lane.

Then we walked… No connecting bridge to the plane.

And get our passport stamped at the immigration. For your information, the departure and arrival share the same hall and counters. Go in and then out. It’s really a super duper duper small airport, but it’s international! I think Johor’s Senai Airport is bigger than this place man.

We then look for a cab to take us to our hotel, Sensa Hotel. Looking around the place, with old old buildings and people who don’t look Chinese, it feels like Thailand to me. But the local people are kinda tiny to be honest. So there are many different races in Asia.

Traveling from Bandung airport to hotel is like 15-20 minutes depend on traffic. It’s also the same left hand drive at Indonesia and the traffic at there not very nice. Weather felt a little bit windy, not very warm, I assumed it’s around 26 degree celsius, kinda nice.

The first impression of Bandung to me was like a little bit like Thailand, then it feels like Penang to me because of the houses and lots of trees. The bungalow and houses at there have the architecture of Dutch element because it was once Dutch’s settlement, long ago.

Sensa Hotel is quite a new hotel and it was ready 3 months ago before we arrived. We booked it online and it’s US$80 per night. Consider cheap, provided they have very good service, free WiFi, lots of cable channel, nice view, clean, and nice breakfast. =D

Hopefully the price would not hike and stay or even lessen. Another thing is that it’s located on Chihampelas Walk, which is a nice shopping district in Bandung. Though, traffic on that road is very bad, all the time, always jam!

Coming up, I will talk about shopping in Bandung, sightseeing and more! =)

  • Another Hard Rock Hotel Visit, Again, With Hueisean

Another Hard Rock Hotel Visit, Again, With Hueisean

OMG, it’s Hard Rock Hotel again. If you are a frequent visitor to my blog, you might already seen a few post about my visit to Hard Rock Hotel, Penang. Haha. Sorry lah, just sharing my life and it’s true that I went there again. I am kinda like a fan of Hard Rock Hotel, ‘s toilet.

If I do go to Batu Ferringhi to shop at the night market or to eat, and I wanted to go to the toilet to pee or shit, I will look for Hard Rock Hotel, so damn awesome. I was actually on a short trip to Batu Ferringhi for fun with dearest Hueisean then I felt like going to the toilet, so Hard Rock Hotel we went.

And that night, I brought my DSLR with me so it’s time to shoot shoot some photos and also enjoy some nice rocking live band music at the hotel lobby.

It was two young boy, a boy was drumming and a boy was on guitar and vocal. I got to say, they were awesome, singing lot’s of nice pop tunes, entertaining hotel and non-hotel guest, like us. Haha.

Then, it’s shoot shoot time of the sweet sweet girl.

And here we go, I say good night from here. So late already.

  • Sit Ferry Go Raja Uda Eat Dinner

Sit Ferry Go Raja Uda Eat Dinner

On a lovely dating night, I went over to Raja Uda, Butterworth with Hueisean. It started getting bored with food in Penang and have decided to take the vehicle onto the ferry, ferrying from the island to the mainland to seek for alternative food.

We were actually quite excited to dine at the famous tomyam noodle place on Jalan Raja Uda, unfortunately, both the famous stall didn’t open that night. I have to stop by the road side, go Google search where to eat.

It was not my first ferry ride or 2nd or 3rd, it fifth or sixth I think. Haha. It’s not that excited anymore, but still I wanted to go down the car to take some snapshot so it could turn into a memory or something. It’s always full of car at every time of the day.

    Blah. Camwhore a bit.

Then we reached Who’s Bryan Cafe at Raja Uda. =D
