Northumbria University x Wet & Crazy Foam Party

Northumbria University x Wet & Crazy Foam Party – Having party in the university with DJ, alcohol and pumping music till 3am is something you can’t normally experience back in Malaysia. It’s quite common and in fact, it’s like part of the university life in the UK, drinking and party in the campus.

Imagine, exam and submission are just over, a small hall in the Student Union building is turn to a wet dance floor, with DJ on stage, continuos foam dropping from the ceiling and spraying from all side. It’s just, wet and crazy, best of all, it’s free!

  • Just Finished My Major Project, Exhausted & Recovering

Just Finished My Major Project, Exhausted & Recovering

Just Finished My Major Project, Exhausted & Recovering – It’d been a while since I’ve write something personally, nor I’ve updated my blog. No I am not shutting off this blog, or abandoning it. This is a place a where I crap and keep whatever good happens in my life. A place to scream and show off! Now, I seriously can scream, ‘IT’S OVER NOW!!!!’. No more assignment, I’ve just completed everything yesterday, except there will be a presentation on this coming Thursday, but there’s nothing much to worry about as the hardwork is over right now.

I do like interior design, but then the process of acquiring a certificate for this skill was really tiring. It was a two months long of tiring days and nights, lacking sleep and entertainment where my mind was just fully focusing on the work. I don’t really know how to juggle well between work and play yet as it’s all work and super less play for me for the past month! Perhaps the mind was just thinking, ‘Faster finish this and do something else!’.

Initially, before coming to the UK, I thought it would be easy for final year as I’ve done a similar thing in Malaysia during the diploma time, but then I was quite wrong. It’s doing the same thing over again, except with extra bit of upgrade in your work and I can say it’s lack of the fresh new thing to learn about. Well, at least I learned the way of interior design here, and some new skill, and also experience the UK education. To be honest with you, I find that one would acquire more skill in Malaysia than in the UK. In UK, you might learn the creative process and the independent, but in Malaysia it’s more about the skill to survive and work. So, education in Malaysia is quite good in my opinion.

Nevertheless, cutting off the crap, my assignment is now over. It’s time to plan for the next stage of life and also to plan for the coming free days left in the UK! What do you suggest I should do during my free days?

The art of a mess in the room! There’s time that I’ve been in the flat for a week and never step out of the building, but I was OK with that as long as there’s food and Internet. =D

  • Trip To Penang: Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion & Penang Road Chendul

Trip To Penang: Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion & Penang Road Chendul

Trip To Penang: Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion & Penang Road Chendul – After spending about an hour or less at the Peranakan Mansion, the next and also the last place to go with the PHT’s tour guide is the Blue Mansion, real name – Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. A very blue mansion that is rated top 10 mansion in the world by Yahoo! Travel.
So, what’s so special about it? The special thing is you can take photos of it outside but inside, you are not allow to take any photos. So, sucks. The real special and cool thing is that the mansion was own by Cheong Fatt Tze, a super duper rich businessman from China. Then the mansion was built with a almost perfect feng shui setup which I don’t know how to explain, so you have to go there for a little tour to get the clue about it.
Right now, it’s like a musuem, nothing much to see in there except listening to the tour guide explain about the place and it’s a hotel inside for tourist.

Outside is fascinating, inside the feng shui explanation is cool, other than that, that’s it. It’s an OKOK-place for me, if I can snap pictures inside, it could be even awesome-er.
Then,  it’s time to bid good bye to the Mr Tour Guide from PHT and it’s a very hot noon, I brought the same bunch of friends to some special treatment and that’s – Chendul! They all only know about Malacca’s Chendul, now they get to know another awesome Chendul in Malaysia – Penang Road Teochew Chendul! It’s so refreshing eating chendul under the hot weather.

    Do you like Penang’s Chendul?

  • My Hostel Room In Newcastle @ Lovaine Flats

My Hostel Room In Newcastle @ Lovaine Flats

My Hostel Room In Newcastle @ Lovaine Flats – In Malaysia, flat is like low-cost flat where you it’s a place to stay with a small living room and perhaps 1/2 room. Sounds, low cost, but in the UK, flat actually means apartment and the hostel I am living right now is call the Lovaine Flats. Yeah. Guess what, it’s actually the cheapest hostel in Northumbria University at £85/week and I don’t get my own bathroom.
Befre. Empty room, with no bedding.
Room is quite OK, location-wise is very good too which is very near to the city, the library and the gym, what’s not OK is there’s only one shower, and one WC! Oh my god, there’s 5-7 rooms in a flat and imagine you are having a stomachache and he/she is having a stomachache at the same time. Die lo.
    Kitchen for 5.
OK, that’s me, in a room with stuff now.
My workstation in the UK. I miss my big monitor screen and an awesome sound system back home.
I don’t mind the room being small, because it’s bigger than the one I stayed in Taylor’s University, I don’t mind the room is not beautifully decorated because I have my own way to make it comfortable. Kitchen is OK, just lack of a good common area. Well, the dining chairs and table are definitely the place for me and the rest of the flatmate to chill. I’ve seen nicer one here but they are way more than mine at over £100/week. So I was thinking, since it’s just a place to sleep, why not save the extra pounds for something else, travel, perhaps?
  • Exciting First Day In Newcastle & Northumbria University

Exciting First Day In Newcastle & Northumbria University

Exciting First Day In Newcastle & Northumbria University – Being in a first world country is so much different, it’s cleaner, air is fresher and it just feels good, maybe it’s my first time heading to a better place. It doesn’t mean that my home is not good, just that it’s a different kind of experience and I like it. No more jet lag after a long sleep from the day before, and I believed that my body suits the British time zone very well.
Crossing the bridge to City Campus East. What a lovely morning.
My current university – Northumbria University. I’m liking it.
It’s not as cold as I thought, weather was pretty fine, clear blue sky to welcome my first day in university and a new city. Although it’s not a metropolitan city, yet this little city of Newcastle Upon Tyne does give me a friendly feeling.
    International Students!
Two ladies bring us around for campus tour.
My companion and it’s my first time navigating on foot with GPS!
First day in Newcastle was to attend a series of talks, campus tour, free bus tours and meeting new friends from all over the world as it was an induction day for International student.
    Monument Square.
This makes me feel home! Penang has this.
The dinner of the night, £1 burger from Poundland. LOL
Did a lot of shopping and Tesco, Wilkinsons, Poundland and TJ Hughes were the favourite ones. Still didn’t have time to explore the city as there’s many to buy for my hostel. Mind became so active suddenly that the mind keep multiplying all the price tag by 5. Haha. Poundland is interesting as everything is in £1 and I’ll just call it Daiso of UK. Unfortunately, Daiso has better choices in my opinion.
Alvin, Han, Beizy, Eunice, Esther, Sharon & Me!
Say hi to all Penang-lang, and a Johor-lang and an Indonesian!
First night was pretty interesting as well as it was not just spending time in the room sleeping again. A night out to the pub was fun as it was like 50% off all wine & champagne during the happy hour at Tiger Tiger. Well, Newcastle is famous for its nightlife, so pubs and clubs are something that must not be missed in this city. It was a good night as I met a bunch of friends from Penang surprisingly, it just made me not to miss home. HAHA. After all, yeah, first day was good and fun.
  • DID Final Semester, Final Presentation

    DID Final Semester, Final Presentation

DID Final Semester, Final Presentation – I am writing this on my lovely leather couch, far away from my college, to be exact – in Penang, at home! College is so far ended for me, the past 4 months was so hectic for me as it was the final semester and I stressed up myself to be the best of myself. I didn’t want to waste my last semester and I just wanted to squeeze out whatever skills I had, that’s why I did not blog for the past few months and to be honest, I was quite stressed up.
Of course, I am relaxing right now, I am grateful that the 3 years Diploma In Interior Design studies is over with flying colours and it’s time for me to move to the next level – continue to the degree program! Yay!
Well, speaking back about the final presentation for my final design studio project, I was actually not nervous about presentation, I actually love speaking out and selling my idea. The stress up part was actually the preparation where you see time was moving so fast and so much more to do. To be honest, I was not very satisfied with the outcome, although it’d been a good one according to my lecturers, yet I still feels that there’s much more space for improvement! Yes, indeed. One of my weakness was not having sufficient research, that’s I admit that and I need improvement in that. Never mind, I told myself I still have a year of Degree study to go, don’t stop learning, Nicholas!
    The venue.
Lecturer for the design studio – Sabariah.
    The classmate. Bye!
    My private corner!
CK, who had been my lecturer for 3 modules.
  • I Am Alive

    I Am Alive

I Am Alive – I just have no idea where to start, but I want to let you know that – i am alive !!!!! Bahhhhhh. 1 month of hiatus, finally I am back! Wait for my come back. Follow me on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and whatever.

Yes, I am looking very good. Mehhhh.
  • A Day In Class

    A Day In Class

A Day In Class – Studying interior design is more about tutorial session where you show your work to the lecturer and get feedback, improve and do better. Some times, you pin-up to the wall, where you share your work progress, ideas with other designers, it’s more like a real-world situation in bigger design firm.
Class can sometimes get bored, long, and slow. What to do? Nap, Candy Crush, surf the net, Whatsapp, looking bored, seriously concentrate at your friend’s work, or at the lecturer? What are you?
3 more weeks till the end of diploma in interior design, let’s do it yo! I am nervous, excited and busy.
  • Final Projects x Final Semester

    Final Projects x Final Semester

Final Projects x Final Semester – 4-5-6 weeks to go, I have no idea whether it’s four, five or six, but I am sure that six weeks is the max to go for my submission of everything for the final semester of my diploma in interior design, after that, I am all set to discover the journey of an interior designer.
As usual, during this time of every semester, I get busy, I do work all day long, I slack some times, I stress up and I am also confident that the final presentation will be a fun one. But! It’s tougher this one last time, the last is the last, there’s no take 2 for me, everything have to be the best (good at least); seeing others do better just added the stress into myself, but I take the challenge to improve and learn.
I can imagine what’s coming after the final submissions, but then I just don’t have the sweet time to do the imagination. Focus is what I needs, and perhaps a little more time out of my life. I can do it, I can do it well, I can do it best, NO, should be I must do it, I must do it well, I must do it best! Good luck, and all the best.
    Happy day to you all.
  • Furniture Design Class Visit To IKEA

Furniture Design Class Visit To IKEA

Furniture Design Class Visit To IKEA – A very random post about I visited the IKEA with my classmate last week for an assingment of looking IKEA furniture, research and document them. It’d been some times I go to IKEA, IKEA actually was my sanctuary where I like to see their new decorations, buy their furniture bit by bit and also to eat their meatballs. But now, IKEA, is just IKEA to me, not obsessed to it anymore. Somehow, I must visit the original headquarter in Stolkholm one day, next year, perhaps? =D
