    Sunrise: Straits Quay, Penang
Sunrise: Straits Quay, Penang – This is my long waited sunrise post. Was thinking to post it up earlier but have caught up with some school assignments. I actually went for this sunrise photoshoot about a month ago when I was in Penang for a short holiday.

I woke up as early as 6.30am, drove there in 10 minutes and it was just nice as the sky was clear! However, I’ve no idea why it was pretty warm that morning. Usually, morning is cool and fresh, but it’s not on that day.

At there, I’ve seen people jogging at there, doing some morning walk. Seems like there’s people earlier than me. Haha. Straits Quay was so quiet in the morning, not forget to mention – pretty and peaceful! Set up my tripod and then I waited! It feels good in the morning, when the air is fresh and sky is clear. Let’s check out the sunrise now. =)

Passed By PenangPAC (Performing Arts Centre), Straits Quay
#1: Located on Level 4 of Straits Quay.

Passed By PenangPAC (Performing Arts Centre), Straits Quay – Kuala Lumpur has the KLPac (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre), and now Penang has our very own PenangPAC – Performing Arts Centre of Penang. Oh yeah! Now I can get to enjoy some nice stage act, musical drama and show here in Penang.

It was opened on the 11th of November 2011, the 111111 day. I went to the Popular’s Book Fair few days ago and passed by the PenangPAC, so I went in to check it out.

#2: Wall of photography, illustrations and paintings.

Obviously, it’s a lot smaller than the KLPac. but then it’s looking spacious and nice with a simple decorations at the lobby. They have two halls which named Stage 1 and Stage 2. There’s also a wall that showcases the good print artworks like photography and illustration.

#3: I see they have a very nice looking interior office for their admin. Really like the workspace so much.

I think PenangPAC is a good platform on promoting performing arts to the local and also act as a stage to gather all the performing arts lover together. Will definitely go check out some show later.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe – The opening of Delicious Cafe (and restaurant) at Straits Quay, Penang have been creating a trend for the young and old to talk about it and dine out at that place. The reason is probably the variety of food, desserts and of course a nice and cozy pink-purplish interiors.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

Delicious Cafe origins from 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Damansara Utama, Klang Valley and the opening in Straits Quay is the first outlet in Penang and outside Klang Valley. I have not really dine out at there, just have been hearing many friends talk about the place, despite it’s a mid-end pricing restaurant.

On one night, I visited the place to eat some desert. It was crowded with people at about 9.30pm and it’s a little bit noisy. I didn’t want to sit outdoor as it was hot and humid. No choice that I have to bare the noisyness and eat my dessert.

Strawberry Cheese Cake At Delicious Cafe

The unfortunate event was my girlfriend ordered the Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream at the counter but the waitress told us it’s not available after 5 minutes because it’s all been booked. That’s fine, and we changed to Strawberry Cheese Cake (RM15), and we waited 10 minutes for that. The cake was not that awesome when compare to Secret Recipe, some like it, but it’s not being friendly with my sweet tooth. It looks very pretty though.

We spent some times chatting and surfing the net with the free wifi then we went back. While going out of the door, we took a glance at the desserts cake counter, and shockingly found out that there’s still so many Classic Chocolate Cake. Damn. The waitress told us that they refilled it, they didn’t tell us that they would refill the thing at first this made me have a first bad impression about the service.

What do you think? I might give a second visit to see how it goes. =)

  • Straits Quay, Penang #2

My hands have been feeling itchy lately as they keep wanting to press the camera shutter button of my new camera. =D To ease my itchiness, I went to Straits Quay in the afternoon to press a feel shutters on my camera. I haven’t really been there during the afternoon and when the sun is hanging high above my head.

It was a quiet Monday afternoon and Straits Quay was, quiet. Feeling bad for the restaurant and cafe owner as there’s so little people visiting their shops at that time. If it’s at Singapore or Hong Kong, there will be people almost at anytime. Guess Penangites are too lazy to come out to spend time at the cafe or perhaps selfish to buy themselves expensive beverage.

I went there with my girlfriend, Hueisean. It was windy and the warm sea breeze blows on my face which it’s not really a good time to spend outdoor.

Took some shots of her of course as she had become my spontaneous model. It’s not all about building, landscape and random people anymore. After changing a new camera, my feel in photography is getting stronger again, it’s like boost up which makes me want to takes more photos! =D

Straits Quay is a good hang out place and the concept is great, somehow it’s not really accessible to public as there’s no public transport going there. And the pubs only opens till 1am because there’s residence on top of it, so no live band and late closing, which is not that good.

Anyway, it’s a good place for some better dining experience and a new spot to hang out in Penang.

Heart for LIKE. =D Do press the LIKE button. Weeeee.

  • New Year Eve at Penang’s Straits Quay with Hueisean and Friends

New Year Eve at Penang’s Straits Quay with Hueisean and Friends

Well, New Year is here and today is the third day of the new 2011 year. Yoyoyo people, how you guys have been doing today? Today is also the first day of school, work and almost everything, but my college is starting in one more week time, so I still get some time to sit down and rest and sleep and eat. =)

So, let’s talk about New Year’s Eve. Christmas’ Eve was a sick day for me as I fell sick and stayed at home to rest but for New Year’s Eve, I have recover from all kind of sickness and ready to rock the new year. I went to the latest seafront promenade in Penang, Straits Quay with my dearest one, Hueisean and her friend to countdown for new year.

We actually want to dine at other place rather than at Straits Quay but due to scare of stuck in a massive countdown-fever-crazy traffic jam, we might as well just dine there and wait for countdown. Save petrol and also prevent from traffic jam.

We arrived there at around 8.30pm and the carpark was already almost full and luckily I found a nice spot to park the car. A crowd of people were already walking at there.

Unfortunately, it’s only restaurants and not many shops opened yet, so it’s only eating out and enjoying the live band by the sea. There’s quite many people at Straits Quay, probably due to people already fed up and boring with the usual countdown place like Gurney Plaza, Upper Penang Road and Queensbay Mall. With the opening of Straits Quay, it given another choice for people to countdown and hangout before the new year falls.

One sad thing was that we spent almost half an hour to search for a right restaurant, some was too crowded and some was just offering “New Year” menu which is rather expensive, in the end, we spent another half an hour for queuing for Secret Recipe restaurant.

After dinner, we just went to walk around the seafront. It’s people everywhere and it’s pretty hard to look for a nice spot to sit down. The centre stage where the performance are was too crowded with people and the place was really small, not a nice place to set up a stage. If it’s on the sea then it’s awesome. Haha.

They even set up screen showing live action on the performance stage on both side of the quay. I think it’s kinda cool but I feel not many people would pay attention at it. One bad thing about that night was the weather was bad, it’s a wet night and it drizzle lightly once in a while.

It’s not only Hueisean and friends that night, I also met some of my high school mate that night. It seems like many people came to Straits Quay that night.

We photoshoot at there, see the girls camwhore, shoot here shoot there to pass time and wait for the countdown to arrive. One thing I got to say that the MC or DJ at there was not good enough, didn’t really bring up the atmosphere IMO. The countdown starts when we here 10, 9, 8 …

And happy new year! The best part of the night was the fireworks, it’s not a very tall one but lovely fireworks by the sea. The beginning part was OK-good, and the ending was awesome. It lasted for several minutes, it’s not the best but still nice to me. People were like screaming and cheering at there.

After the fireworks, it’s playing of some hot club tracks, blasting through the huge speaker. Above the Straits Quay are the residences and resident there probably didn’t get a good rest after the countdown. Haha. Spent some times at there then we went home already.

My brother who is in New York right now wanted to countdown and see the ball drop at Times Square but due to the long wait from 3pm to 12am, he decided to spend the time somewhere else and went to play with snows at the Central Park. Seems cool right? He told me that one who went in Times Square must wait till night and not easy and probably not able to go the washroom because there’s no washroom! Woo.

So, how did you celebrate your New Year’s Eve?

  • Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

When I was back to Penang few weeks ago, I rushed to check out Straits Quay at Sri Tanjung Pinang, a reclaimed land somewhere between Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong, it’s a new area on the island and it’s the latest seafront hangout place in Penang. Yo. A combination of residences and commercial place, this place is cool and I am so proud of being a Penangite.

The place is very nice, by the sea and it’s a little mall with seafront promenade, having cafe, bistro, restaurants and some shoplots. Unfortunately, not all the shops are opened, it’s only part of it which make it kinda quiet at the moment.

And the best part is the seafront view. There’s one place where you can overlook the Gurney Drive and the coastal of Penang, and it looks a bit like Victoria Harbour or Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong just that we don’t have high skyscrapers and beautiful expensive light shows.

Although there’s nothing much there, crowds started flowing in slowly. There’s a fireworks display and Christmas countdown celebration at here too.

Still looking forward to more shops opening at there and some great development of Penang island. Yo.
