    Trip To Penang: Pulau Tikus Lok-Lok & RED KTV – This is the last part of my Trip To Penang series and I’m gonna blog about something else already. Yay? Anyway, after an afternoon at the beach, we actually went to Gurney Plaza for a little walkaround and dinner, but that’s not the main thing, the main thing was what happened after that and that’s to eat Lok-lok at Pulau Tikus and later chill out at RED KTV.
    Penang’s Lok-lok is famous, especially at Pulau Tikus because of its cheap prices, varieties of sticks and also varieties of sauces, that you can hardly find elsewhere. How can I not bring my friend to check out this Lok-lok place? By the way, it’s again a private tour for this few friends because I do not drive a van.
    After lok-lok, a short tour at Straits Quay for them to check out the high end part of Penang where high end yachts are docked and a beautiful seafront promenade is. It’s time to get amazed. Penang is not just a UNESCO World Heritage City with old houses, but there’s a nice modern part developing around the island.
    Last segment of the day was a chill out session at RED KTV at Bellisa Row which I’ve not been for quite some times already. Still has the very strong smoky air, but karaoke at there was funner as lesser people were there and the lounge added a pool table for free play. So now I conclude my Trip To Penang and it was a fun trip with my classmate and hopefully there will be more trip like this.

    Desserts At Snowman Tang Bo Fu, Pulau Tikus – When you think of stressed, try reverse the alphabet and you will get D-E-S-S-E-R-T-S, yes, it’s desserts! Everyone does has a sweet tooth which has a strong interest towards desserts and sweet thing. It basically just put a smile on someone’s face.

    Snowman Tang Bo Fu is a desserts house that serve Hong Kong desserts and was originally from Raja Uda, Butterworth. Now, they have expanded their outlet to Penang Island, located on the busy neighbourhood of Rat Island – Pulau Tikus.

    I went there on a fine afternoon with my brother and his friend to enjoy some icy cold desserts as a getaway from the hot and humid weather of Penang. The interior of the place is quite similar with the on in Raja Uda, it’s smaller, yet still able to house a mini band stage and also a sofa for better chill out experience.

    Tang Bo Fu (mandarin) or Tong Pak Fu (cantonese) was a Chinese scholar, painter, calligrapher and poet of the Ming Dynasty, who basically is a famous Chinese from the ancient time. Now the name is used as the restaurant name which the word Tang, is changed into another Chinese word which means sweet.

    I ordered myself one of the top 10, icy Honeydew Sago (RM5.80). The blended ice does really contain the taste of the honeydew and it’s accompany by healthy and cold honeydew fruit cutlet as well as the sago filling. It’s a simple desserts, yet, it’s sweetened the mouth and mind.

    Next up is a Soya Milk With Sesame Paste Sea Coconut (RM7.80). A mixture of the sesame paste into the blended ice and soya milk turns a special combination into something delightful. The presence of sea coconut keeps the mouth busy with crunching the healthy fruit.

    This is Mango Toufa with New Zealand Natural Ice Cream plus Mango cutlet (RM12.80). The toufa is very smooth and it taste like pudding but it’s more fragile then pudding. It break and explode once you place in the mouth. Somehow, the greentea ice cream felt weird in the desserts bowl.

    We also ordered a finger food to accompany our desserts afternoon. The fried wantan was mouth watering and the skin was also very crunchy. The meat filling tasted a bit salty though.

    Overall, the pricing at Tang Bo Fu is rather above average Penang’s desserts price. The desserts are nice, just doesn’t really satisfied with the pricing. Kuala Lumpur’s KTZ has a better pricing food and more choices.

    A Morning Walk At Pulau Tikus Market – Pulau Tikus Market is one of the market that’s close to my place and mom is a frequent visitor of that market. On a fine Saturday morning two weeks back, I went there with mom for breakfast and accompany her to buy some stuff. I never know that there’s a hidden hawker stalls located at the back of the market and has a variety of local Penang food.

    It’s not a big one but then, it’s enough to cater daily market visitor and I had Hokkien And Lor Mixed Noodle for breakfast. Simply delicious and good. Then it’s started to rain, which makes eating breakfast chilling and nice. Mom said it’s pretty hot on normal day at there.

    After breakfast, mom wanted to buy some stuff and so I followed along, turned on my camera and put my finger on the shutter button, and started snapping away. It was late morning and there’s stall started to pack up for the day and go home to get some rest after a long morning of work. On the other hand, there’s still people coming in to do some last minute buying of vegetable and meat before lunch time arrives.

    It’d been raining quite a lot in Penang for the past few weeks and it’s still raining much now. Though, in Klang Valley here is quite humid and hot lately.

    If were to compare this to other more famous market like the Chowrasta Market and the Cecil Street Market, the Pulau Tikus Market is indeed smaller in size, but somehow, it’s still serves the local around the area that with you can find almost everything you need at there.

    Penang is so famous for Char Koay Teow and it’s a must eat when you come visit in Penang or if you are a Penangite, you must like it. Haha. There’s too many nice char koay teow in Penang and one of which I know and like is in Pulau Tikus market, at the hawker stall area which sells only at night.

    The stall name is called the Sin Wah Char Koay Teow and I got to tell you that the owner got a little bit cocky. He will always tell you, ” You need to wait 30 minutes, want to wait or not?” Haha. But I don’t mind waiting because it usually served in about 15 minutes.

    There’s 3 big prawns in the koay teow, nicely fried with salted duck egg and lard. The fragrance, the taste and the texture are real good. It may not be the best, I don’t know how to say it’s the best, yet it’s nice. The best part, it’s only RM4.50 which is cheaper than the RM8 at Lorong Selamat.

    Hokkien Mee For Dinner At Pulau Tikus Market

    Didn’t feel like eating rice and wanted to eat some hawker food so I went to Pulau Tikus Market hawker stalls to scope for some hawker food. Same again, 6 weeks I never go to hawker stall already but my parents did buy me hawker food during Sunday visit for National Service (PLKN).

    At first I was thinking to eat Wan Tan Mee, but somehow this big Hokkien Mee signboard on the stall caught my attention and I was thinking “Hmm. When does a Hokkien Mee stall appear here?” Because there wasn’t a Hokkien Mee stall there and it was far far away at the end of the market. Could this be a new one?

    I can’t resist myself to order a bowl to try it. I ordered instant noodle typed, there’s egg, little bit of vegetable, a little bit of meat and very tiny prawn. My verdict is, not good enough. Somehow, I still like the one at Lebuh Presgrave. I’ll show you guys next time. =)
