‘Happily Riding Bicycle’ Mural Art @ Armenian Street, Penang by Ernest Zacharevic – The very brilliant wall mural artist – Ernest Zacharevic is in Penang working on a few large wall mural art in conjunction with the coming George Town Festival which will be happening in July. One of the done work is at the start of Armenian Street featuring a 2D mural art and a 3D real bicycle.

At here you can see a little girl riding a bicycle with a small boy (probably her little brother) sitting on the back of the bicycle. The coolest part is that it has a real bicycle mounted to the wall, which makes the beautiful mural even more awesome. What a nice piece of art.

I purposely went there to check out the art and took some photos. Haha. More to street art in Penang to come. =D

Penang Bridge On A Quiet Morning

Penang Bridge On A Quiet Morning – No, I am not in Penang, I am still in Petaling Jaya, studying. I miss home now, I miss the food, I miss my girlfriend and family. Took this photo while enjoying the sunrise at Chew Jetty. I have a friend from Temerloh, Pahang who had never came to Penang before and he told me he has never seen or know about the Penang Bridge before, even not on a photo. I told him about it, and the funny question is “What is the Penang Bridge used for?”. HAHA.

Sunrise At Chew Jetty, Penang

Sunrise At Chew Jetty, Penang – Last time, I went to Jelutong Expressway, near the fishing village there to photograph the sunrise but it was kinda fail. Then I went to Chew Jetty for sunrise, it’s not golden orange sun, yet the effect, the sky, the cloud and everything are awesome. Not perfect, but I like it.

Well, I’ve realised my friends here in Kuala Lumpur don’t really know how Penang looks like and how awesome she is. Some have not even been to Penang, they thought Penang is just beaches and Penang Bridge, that’s all, they don’t know how beautiful the city is now is. Haha. So now, I want to share to them some nice sunrise photo from a seaside settlement of Chew Jetty, a settlement/Chinese village that has over 100 years of history, and super happenings during Chinese New Year. The local Chinese movie – Ice Kacang Puppy Love was filmed here too!

6.55am. Still dark, but dawn is here already!

7.00am. Still dawn, I saw 2 photography enthusiasts at there too! So I was not the first one. They are really early!

7.15am. Twilight is here. Beautiful ferry is crossing the straits to Butterworth.

7.17am. Fall in love with the beauty of a Bukit Mertajam in this picture. Bukit Mertajam is a township on Seberang Perai (Province Wellesley), Penang and it’s the highest peak at there. The hill look so calm.

7.25am. Mr Sun is almost waking up from horizon after a long quiet and peaceful night.

7.38am. Mr Sun is up! Couldn’t identify the round shape, but the red hot eye is looking across the sea.

7.40am. Zoom in and you see Butterworth, the mainland of Penang.

Awesome!

Heard that Teluk Tempoyak has the best sunrise in Penang, wonder when can I check it out. Haha.

Cloudy Sunrise At Jelutong Expressway

Cloudy Sunrise At Jelutong Expressway – There’s so many nice sunrise-watching & photography spots in Penang. How wish that I can explore more right now, but then I couldn’t because I am now in Kuala Lumpur. Gonna find some nice spot here too.

Few weeks back, I went to Jelutong Expressway to scout for a good spot to do sunrise photography. It’s somewhere near the fishing house, I couldn’t find it at first. I’ve seen many people go there to take photograph, but I have no idea which is the best spot. It’s not really comfortable at there because of the mosquitoes, better prepare an insect repellant to prevent mosquito aedes.

Well, the sky was not clear that day, it’s cloudy and so the sun could not really be seen, it’s just the beauty of dawn and twilight.

Nice Hokkien Prawn Mee At Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court – I love Hokkien Prawn Mee, it’s one of the must-eat food in Penang, the prawn taste food is so yummylicious. You can eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea time or supper.

Recently, I found a nice Hokkien Prawn Mee (introduced by Hueisean =D) at the Tanjung Bungah Market Food Court. It’s only RM3.00 per bowl Hokkien Prawn Mee and you will get a lot of ingredient like shrimps, meat, and egg. You can add another 30 cents for an extra egg. What’s so best about this Hokkien Prawn Mee is the soup, filled with strong prawn taste, sweet, and spicy, it’s good.

Compare to the one at Perak Road, I guess both of them has their delicious point, it’s just that you do not have to wait for a long time for this. I had it for breakfast few days ago.

Goddess Of Mercy – Guan Yin’s Birthday 观音誕

Goddess Of Mercy – Guan Yin’s Birthday 观音誕 (Guan Yin Dan) – Taoist and devotees celebrates the birthday of Goddess of Mercy (also known as Guan Yin Dan) on 19th February, 19th Jun and 19th September each year on the lunar calendar.

It’s a very hot Sunday!

Today is the 19th February in the lunar calendar and it’s a very happenings day at the Goddess of Mercy Temple (Kuan Yin Teng) on Pitt Street. I went there with grandma to pray, I also brought along my camera to take photos of the celebration. It’s really very crowded and hot because of the burning of joss stick. It’s overly crowded in the temple hall, moreover some part of the temple is closed for renovation.

It’s very uncomfortable to move around due to the heat and amount of people, but then I managed to ooze myself into the crowd to pray and take photos.

Freeing the birds is a way of doing good deeds, which I don’t really agree as these birds and caught and then bought to release.

There’s a corner offering ear piercing. It is said that it brings good luck to the children who get their ears pierced during Guan Yin’s birthday. There’s many parents bring their little girls for ear piercing. It looks pain, some are brave and some cried. I’ve pierced before and I know the feeling. Haha.

There’s many beggar gather at the Kuan Yin Temple on this day and there’s people bring a bag of coin to give out to them.

Awesome Tanjung Bungah Sea View From Infinity Super-condominium – Few days ago, I went to visit very a very cool super-condominium at Tanjung Bungah – Infinity Condominium. The seaview from the unit is really awesome, you can see a whole stretch of Tanjung Bungah beach. Very cool.

Penang First Taoist Float Procession 槟城太上老君古庙游神

Penang First Taoist Float Procession 槟城太上老君古庙游神 – Last Sunday, Penang has its first Taoist Float Procession with a spiritual route of 11.8km, and a length of 4km of more than 80 floats, representing different Taoist temple around Penang, and other state.

This Taoist float procession was organized in conjunction with the 115th Anniversary of the Lean Wah Thong Temple in Air Itam, Penang. It has attracted many locals and tourists to experience the float procession and also caused some traffic congestion in town.

I didn’t really know about it at first until my grandma told me about this event, only then I searched on the Internet and found out about it. It’s very cool, with many different Taoism god on the decorated float and many devotees join the procession. It’s a very happenings night, but I think the state tourism and culture authority should tell people more about it, so more people can experience the event as I know many didn’t know about this event.

I went to Pangkor Road and Jalan Dato Kramat to photograph the event. Hopefully, this kind of event will occur every year in Penang to attract more tourists and devotees to Penang.

Kopi C @ China House – Cafe & Gallery In Heritage Shophouse

Kopi C @ China House – Cafe & Gallery In Heritage Shophouse – Penang has many colonial-style shophouses which are very beautiful and retro located in the heart of UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town. Nowadays, many of these shophouses are refurbished and converted into heritage hotel, inn, cafe, gallery and gift shop.

China House is a good use of colonial-style shophouses converted into a shophouse with gallery, cafe, restaurants, retail and a place to chill and relax with your friends. In China House, there’s many different section, one section is the Kopi C (known as Kopi Cine) which serves nice coffee and freshly baked cakes and desserts.

Initially, I was thinking of having a nice afternoon tea at Kopi Cine, Muntri Street, later only found out that it has moved into China House. So I went to search for the China House. It’s located on Beach Street, before the old fire station. The China House is linked together with the shophouse at the back, which reveal a long and narrow interior.

The interior of Kopi C is very retro, blended old Penang’s decorations with Chinese & Western-style. I ordered their in-house special cake – Tiramisu (RM12/slice) and a slice of Mushroom Quiche (RM8/slice) which is a pie filled with mushroom and onion.

With some soft music, Kopi C is indeed a nice hangout spot in the afternoon, for good cakes, good chat and good environment. Hueisean loves the place a lot, and the Tiramisu too! Besides housing the Kopi C, China House also houses a gallery at the 2nd level, an open space for event, a Chinese restaurant, a courtyard, a reading zone and also a bar with live music at night.
