Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street – Life back in Penang Island is really awesome, food exploration is never ending and eating is the main culture here. Penang is truely a food heaven. I just love spending time at my hometown, air is fresher, life is more relaxing and healthier here.

Recently, I went to check out a new Chinese restaurant in the core of George Town @ Campbell Street – Midland Kitchen. If you know about the Midland Restaurant at Midland Park, then you might get some idea of the food serves. It’s opened by the same person who operated Midland Restaurant.

Located in one of the eclectic styles colonial-style shophouse on Campbell Street, it blends a fusion design in the interiors. The setting is more towards a modern contemporary design, providing a new dining experience in town. What’s special is that this shophouse has 3 levels.

Each floor provide different dining style, the first floor is more towards intimacy dining and there’s a mini bar and the 2nd floor is a private group dining area. It’s pretty cool. Decoration is a bit simple, but the use of furniture makes it cool.

Now food time! Well, I don’t really know how to describe food but I’ll just make a it short and sweet about the dishes that we have orderd for lunch. First up, Minced Meat Toufu – mild-salty, soft and smooth toufu, taste good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Fuyong Omelet was just nice only, not too good compare the one I had before in KL.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lor Han Vegetarian Dish – not my type dish. My said it was good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

The last dish was not really a good one – Steamed Chicken With Chinese Wine, it’s not good because the chicken was too hard, not tender enough.

Anyway, will try some other dishes next time on my next visit. It’s not really awesome, but I’ll give it another opportunity. =D. As for Chinese restaurant, I prefer Tek Sen Restaurant, that’s really suit my taste bud.

Poster, Steamboat & Beach Street For Arron & Chien Chern

Poster, Steamboat & Beach Street For Arron & Chien Chern – The two familiar name – Arron & Chien Chern once again appeared on my blog. Haha. Arron & Chien Chern, both are my best buddy who are flying off soon, one to India and another to Liverpool, UK. Main subject of the post is Arron as he is flying off real soon and secondly, we just celebrated Chien Chern’s birthday, last night on Beach Street – very randomly.

I don’t know where to start with. Two days ago, I went to PIK NIK CAFE to meet up with Arron, Simon, Chien Chern, Raykee and Liang Sun to give out a big piece of poster as a memory for him as he is going off to India for further studies. What’s worst with India is he has to be there for the next 5 years. WOW. Ok, so I printed a collage photos of him for him. (I want to complain that printing in Penang is freaking expensive! KL is 60% cheaper for the same size. SUCKS.)

Then yesterday, we went to steamboat get-together at the Town Steamboat House, which we used to get-together a few years back. Price has increased from RM19.90 to RM22.90. Soup taste is getting lousier, it’s not as fun as before and it was oily hot!

After steamboat, Beach Street was our next destination. Chilling out at Logan Cruise Steak House with in-house special beverage. At 12am, we just sang birthday song and talk crap by the road side. So, farewell Arron, and Chien Chern and all. It seems like many people are going elsewhere, and I’m gonna stay here in Malaysia. Do you think Malaysia is a good place to live in the next 1o years? I have to consider that after this coming general election.

    Tropfest Penang 2012

Tropfest Penang 2012 – Went to Tropfest – The World’s Largest Short Film Festival which was also the last event of the month-long George Town Festival 2012. It’s my first time checking out a ‘film festival’ and also watching film at the outdoor, so close the nature. It was held at the Quarry Park of Penang’s Botanical Garden. Seating were on the nature grass floor.

It’s a good experience, together with few hundreds people watching the professional short film from around the world. I thought it’s a projector screen but instead it was a very huge LED screen.

    Tropfest Penang 2012

Tropfest was actually originated from Australia, where filmmaker showcases shortfilm in a small gathering in a cafe named Tropicana Cafe, sooner it’d became a annual festival for short filmmaker around the world, becoming Tropfest of today. If you’ve missed it nevermind, you can check it out again next year at this month.

Chinese Opera At Kuan Yim Teng

Chinese Opera At Kuan Yim Teng (Goddess Of Mercy Temple) – Came back to Penang feels so good, it’s so much colourful and culture-ful when compare to the fast moving city of Kuala Lumpur. Just a few days ago, I was driving around the little city of George Town, passed by the Goddess Of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street and found that there’s a Chinese opera was going on.

Chinese Opera At Kuan Yim Teng

Chinese opera often plays during some religious month of the Goddess. I am not sure about what was it about but I just find it interesting. I parked my car, went to do some prayers and snap a few photos of the Chinese opera set up right in front of the temple.

I wasn’t very sure about the dialogue, just understand like half-half. If there’s subtitle, it would be great. =D The opera team came all the way from Muar, Johor.

Searching For Sunset At Permatang Damar Laut

Searching For Sunset At Permatang Damar Laut – I went looking for a nice sunset at Permatang Damar Laut, Batu Maung there because I’ve seen before some nice sunset photos taken at there and some photographer friends told me that it’s a good location. Unfortunately, the sky was not blue enough and the worst was the sun was not setting at the location it supposed to be. Maybe because it’s Summer time that the sun slanted a bit? No idea. Anyway, it seems to be a good place and I will come back some other day when the sky is really clear.

    Penang Bridge 2 In Progress

Penang Bridge 2 In Progress – Hello people, sorry for being away for so long, life is just so busy with school and my blog actually got hacked but some stupid people recently and now what you are seeing is a new theme for my blog. Well, guess where am I, I am back to my lovely hometown – Penang!

Gonna enjoy this short 3 weeks holiday to the max in this city, find all my friends, spend time with girlfriend, family and explore more new stuff in Penang!

Today, I was cruising along Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway to Batu Maung and spotted the Penang Second Bridge in progress, parked the car by the roadside and went to check it out. It looks very magnificent and is looking forward towards its completion.

It’s gonna be the longest bridge in South East Asia but sad that there’s one have to pay toll to cross that bridge. Since it’s long, you are gonna burn more fuel too. HAHA. How I wish there’s a undersea tunnel on the other end of the Penang island. One more thing, it’s expected to complete in November 2013, long way to go!

  • ‘Boy On Motorbike’ 3D Wall Mural At Lebuh Ah Quee

‘Boy On Motorbike’ 3D Wall Mural At Lebuh Ah Quee

‘Boy On Motorbike’ 3D Wall Mural At Lebuh Ah Quee by Ernest Zacharevic – The famous painter artist in Penang who did the scary kung fu girl, the 3D bicycle brother and sister and more wall mural has did one latest mural again at Lebuh Ah Quee, just a street next to Armenian Street which features a young boy painted on the wall riding on a real motorcycle mounted to the wooden door.

Cool right? I didn’t get a chance to take closer photo of it cause I was just passing by that place. I’ve read that there’s another nice mural at Chew Jetty by Ernest too! Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to explore around as I only back to Penang for a short weekend, moreover it’s more likely a business return-home trip to me. Next holiday, I’m gonna go explore all the cool street wall art of George Town!

  • Video: Cleaner Greener Penang – ‘Use Recycled Bag’

Video: Cleaner Greener Penang - 'Use Recycled Bag'

Video: Cleaner Greener Penang – ‘Use Recycled Bag’ – The Pakatan Rakyat Penang State Government has recently uploaded a few video on their Youtube channel to show what they have done for Penang since 2008’s general election. One of their effort is to create a cleaner, greener Penang with promoting ‘No Plastic Bag Day’.

    [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dezDrybEWdQ]

At first I was kinda uncomfortable with the initiatives because I always forgotten to bring my own recycled bag. But later, I get used to it. Mom’s handbag always has a small recycled bag, and in the car too. If really really forgotten to bring, just pay extra RM0.20 which contributes to the charity, not bad right?

In Selangor, it’s only Saturday, but in Penang, it’s everyday! That’s good also, save the environment. =) Next, keep Penang really clean, no littering around. =)

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street – Last, last Sunday, I went to Muntri Street in Penang with my classmate and a group of pro sketchers to sketch the place, for leaning and sharing and fun. Muntri Street is really a nice place in Penang full of beautiful eclectic colonial style shophouses. It has history, it has story and arts. There’s many guesthouses at there too!

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Interior design students from Taylor’s University was having a trip to Penang, the most beautiful city in Malaysia and one of the activity was ‘Sketch Muntri Street’, also an activity conducted by pro sketcher Ch’ng Kiah Kiean. I feel sad that my hand is not as pro as them, I don’t really sketch stuff, in fact, I kinda suck at it. I did some sketch, a bit,  but then I went photo shooting around the place instead.

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

It’s a nice sunny Sunday morning and the weather was pretty clear, but then it’s hot too! I sweat quite a lot. Back to sketch, looking at other’s people sketches, I told myself I really have to sketch more. It doesn’t have to be uber pretty or detailed, as long as it has feeling, has visual, has proportion than it’s good, according to one of the pro sketches. Sketching is for fun and to express one’s feel to a visual.

    Sunday Morning @ Muntri Street

Guess what I have found on Muntri Street? It’s another super big mural done by Ernest Zacharevic who did the Armenian Street’s mural. This one is really huge on a big piece of wall. It looks a bit scary but what the story is that it’s about a little girl learning kung-fu.
