Black & White At Shing Kheang Aun – Went to lunch just now at the Hainanese restaurant Shing Kheang Aun in George Town. It was very hot, and sunny. I have my camera with me, mounted with Sigma 30mm f1.4, when I saw down by the table, I got bored, and then I started snapping away. Switching mode from colour to monochrome black & white.

Lim Guan Eng vs Chua Soi Lek Debate – Yesterday’s debate was the most anticipating debate of all time because it involved two very “big” people, MCA (Malaysia Chinese Association) President Chua Soi Lek and Penang’s Chief Minister & Secretary-General of Democratic Action Party Lim Guan Eng. Lim Guan Eng is currently my favourite person because he is the Chief Minister of my lovely Penang and he has did a good job administrating the state.
I went to Prangin Mall to join the crowds to see the live telecast of the debate. Despite it can also be watched at home, I went out to join the crowds and also my friend. It’s just like going out to mamak to watch football instead of staying at home.
The whole ground floor was filled with Lim Guan Eng’s supporter and they cheer when Lim Guan Eng speaks. It’s really unite and shows that the Penangite love Lim Guan Eng. They also boo-ed when the camera pan to Chua Soi Lek’s face. Very funny. Haha.
It was pretty fun seeing the debate, however it’s kinda disappointed and it’s not what I expected. Debate somehow turned into a forum-like. Chaos at there with so much MCA supporter in the hall. Lim Guan Eng did not do enough homework as far as I’ve seen, but he is still good. He dare to show off the good work that he and DAP and also PR has done, but MCA was only knowing how to talk bad on PR/DAP. Well, Lim Guan Eng also did not answer some of the questions that were threw at him.
The most interesting part of the debate was when an emotional woman shouting like crazy, condemning the Penang government, raising on pointless question that is why Penang Government still want to tow the car when it’s 1030pm even there’s no car on the road, sucking people’s money. The question is so stupid and obviously the car got towed away is because of breaking the law. Who the hell says that Penang’s road is quiet and no car at 10.30pm. She moreover claimed herself as a half-Penangite. What is a half-Penangite, I wondered? Her Facebook page shows that she was born in Selangor and live in Singapore. Dont’t be half Penangite, you will be hate. Haha.
Another funny one raised question in Malay, “”Kenapa selepas Pas memerintah itu Kelantan, penyu diharamkan di Terengganu?” WTH?!

Internet is really powerful, people and hater has already found who was the lady that was shouting emotionally, turned out she is Jessie Ooi, MCA’s representative for Selayang area. She had a Facebook page and everyone was spamming her wall and people even created various MEME trolled at her. As of now, 2am, her Facebook page is now shut down. What a noob. Facebook people now call her the Parking Aunty.
Well,as a Penangite, I support my chief minister, I see improvement and I see he is somehow better than the CM before. Looking forward for the next debate. Hopefully it will not be disappointed.

Wednesday Farlim Night Market – It’d been some times I didn’t go to night market in Penang, except to those in Bangkok. Haha. Bangkok’s night market and Penang’s is somehow different as we have got more food here and they have got more clothing at there.
Night market (pasar malam) is fun but then the items and food are repetitive so it gets bored after some times. However, going to the night market once in a blue moon is kinda fun, especially eating the yummy and unhealthy street food.
The plan was actually to search for a cheap RM10 mop for cleaning the floor but it failed because there wasn’t anyone selling at there. I recalled back and it’s actually the night market at Taman Connaught in Kuala Lumpur that sells the cheap mop, but not here in Penang.
At Farlim’s, the stalls are more about clothing, accessories and FOOD! Hueisean and I found no mop and we turned our sight to food instead. Was craving for oily deep fried unhealthy food which is very yummy and we bought ourselves fried dumpling and the unhealthy deep fried chicken skins. OMG.
The after-dinner “desserts” was pretty satisfying. In addition, I brought a packet of sugar cane and grass jelly to balance the oily unhealthy meal. Fried food at the night market rocks! Chicken skin is so awesome, why it must be so unhealthy?! Haha.

For other alternative, or a cheaper one, you can cook a candle light dinner at home, or visit some other restaurant that offer normal day menu. I kinda dislike when restaurants offer only Valentine’s Day menu during that day, it lessen the choice of ordering other food.

Visit To Kek Lok Si Temple & Pagoda – Last night I went to the super famous temple in Penang – Kek Lok Si Temple at Air Itam with a some friends. It’d been quite some times I didn’t go to Kek Lok Si Temple. During the Chinese New Year, Kek Lok Si Temple will turn on all the decoration lighting decoration. It’s very beautiful during this festival.
My visit was not perfect because the Kuan Yin Pagoda Temple was not on, as the lighting decoration at that part of the temple is turned off after the 15th day of Chinese New Year. However, the Kek Lok Si Temple is still pretty afterall. It’s not really a photography trip to the temple for me because I’ve already did a serious photography session at Kek Lok Si two years back.
Nevertheless, I still brought my camera along, Canon 60D mounted with Sigma 30mm f1.4 to shoot, it’s never be bored shooting around at Kek Lok Si. Photography is fun! This time, I take photos of lanterns hanging on the ceiling more. And with a fixed prime lens, it challenged me a bit but luckily 30mm was wide enough to do most of the photography.
For the first time, I went to the pagoda area of Kek Lok Si Temple, I have not been there before on my previous visits. One need to pay an entrance of RM2/person to get there and it’s another beautifully decorated garden at Kek Lok Si Temple. You can also climb to the top of the pagoda to get a magnificent view of Penang too! Super awesome!

Chinese New Year Eve 2012 – It has now comes to the 11th day of Chinese New Year 2012. 4 more days and the celebration will be officially over. The great long celebration will come to an end and come back next year.
Chinese New Year is awesome, you hear bing biang boom firecrackers and fireworks everywhere, many shops are closed during Chinese New Year, it’s a big holiday in China, everyone gets money in red envelope, it’s the time where people spend a lot money to buy new things.
I am just so proud to be a Chinese, celebrating Chinese New Year. Well, other culture are awesome too like next Monday will be Thaipusam in Penang.

Went To Penang Hill For Sunrise But… – The Sun has already risen up in the air. Darnn. Next time I should have wake up earlier. I woke up at about 6am in the morning and planned to go up to Penang Hill to see the sunrise and capture the beauty moment of it. I prepared myself and started my journey at about 6.40am.
I Googled and get to know that the Sun rises at about 7.36am so it was still early for me. The sky was still dark out there. When Hueisean and I reached was already a little past 7am. Happily seeing the tram was there, but sadly get to know that the next tram operation hour is at 7.30am. Very failed.
By the time we reached the top of the hill was already 7.45am. The Sun was already up in the air, saying hello to us. So no more Sunrise watch. Arghh. The air was pretty chilly and cold up there, felts good and I will definitely go up again.
Not many people up there in the morning except for a few of the residents and a few visitors like us. Hawker stalls haven’t open at that time, nothing much to do, after capturing some shots, we went back down.

Visit To Pulau Aman, A Peaceful Village Island – The state of Penang does not only consist of Penang Island, but there’s many small islets laying around the main big Penang Island, e.g. Pulau Jerejak, Pulau Aman, Pulau Betong, Pulau Tikus, Pulau Gedung, Pulau Rimau and Pulau Kendi. Some is inhabited with people, some is not.
Pulau Aman, also known as ‘Island of Peace’ is a island off Batu Kawan of the mainland of Penang, I have seen the name from Penang’s Tourism brochure, as well as the road sign while driving on the North-South Highway, but I have no idea what’s Pulau Aman is about until then.

After doing some research on the Internet, Pulau Aman is actually a small Malay fishing village and famous for the Mee Udang (Prawn Noodle, different from the Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodle). There’s is also one historical attraction, the Telaga Emas and a short stretch of sandy beach, as well as chalet for rent. Nothing much else.

I visited the island with a bunch of friends last week and our main point of the visit was actually to eat the Mee Udang and the Mantis Prawn, which the island famous for too. From Penang Island, I travelled to the mainland Seberang Perai then headed south to Batu Kawan Stadium direction. From there, you will see direction board pointing to ‘Jeti Ke Pulau Aman (Jetty to Pulau Aman)’.
We then reached the Jeti Batu Musang, the jetty on the mainland that ferries people to the island. There’s a new jetty complex which is yet to open to public as it’s still under construction.
Ticket price to and fro the island is priced at RM6/person and there’s various traveling time per day, the earliest boat is 8am. We went on the second boat at 10am. It takes about 15 minutes to arrive at Pulau Aman.

Upon arriving at the island, a sense of peacefulness and sound of nature approach me as the island and the city is totally two different place. Hustle bustle of city sound cannot be heard at here. It’s sea water, windy sea breeze, chicken, and the laughter of the local inhabitant at the village can be heard.
We were hungry and we went straight to the famous Restaurant Terapung for Mee Udang as our brunch.

Because of time is limited to us on that day, I did not have much time to visit the whole island, I will visit the island again and do some real exploring on it.
