  • A Visit To HELP University And HELP Residence

Klang Valley I am back! Luckily I did not stuck in the Raya jam last weekend when everyone was just going back to their work town or home town from other place. I came back last Saturday, early in the morning to get rid from the super long jam. My first destination upon arrival was HELP University College at Pusat Bandar Damasara because that my friend, Chien Chern who fetched me and Tee Jin back wanted to check in to the hostel of his new school.

This was my first time visiting the campus and I never really knew the exact location. Friends keep telling me it’s near to Mid Valley, near to Bangsar, it’s at Damansara. But I have no idea where it was, when I heard about Damansara, I only know about Damasara Utama, where the shopping mall 1 Utama is. Haha.

But now, I know where it is located, and it’s located undergroumd. Haha. Not exactly underground, the building itself is on a hill slope which the upper part is office building and lower part to the slope is the campus itself.

It was already close when we visited the place. It’s quiet, it’s so much different from Taylor’s University that I am studying in, it look, different. HAHA.

Next was to visit the HELP Residence, the hostel for the school. It’s just accompanying my friend to check-in and check out the hostel.

RM550 without utilities fee on a twin-sharing room with bathroom, without kitchen. What do you think? Looking at the photo, they look a bit dirty on the wall, but the HELP University has responded with a comment below, quite good:

Nick, Thank you for sharing your photos with us. I wished we had the chance to show you around HELP Damansara campus and the Residence. For your information, we have identified the room and immediately went in to repair and repainted the place. This is certainly an isolated case. The previous student had just moved out in the previous week and due to the long Raya holidays, the maintenance staff had not cleaned up the room in time for your friend’s check in. By the way, here is a link to show you the rest of the facilities in HELP. http://www.help.edu.my/sites/h…

Nervertheless, HELP Residence do have a good view out of the window.

  • Good Night – Miss Abu Maggi Mee

    Untitled

Penang people sure know about this road, Jalan Datuk Koyah which become happenings at night when Abu Mamak Stall start operating. The springy Maggi instant noodle cook in a pan fried way, serving with an omelet and deep fried chicken, it’s just interesting and mouth watering to eat at late night even that eating at late night is not a good habit.

At this moment, I misses the Maggi Goreng Ayam. HAHA. Good night. Where in KL can I find Abu-style Maggi Mee?

Feel free to read my food blog (Shiok Or Not) when you are hungry!

  • A Visit To Logos Hope – The Floating Book Fair

Have you heard about Logos Hope before? It’s the largest floating book fair that travels around the world. The Logos Hope is actually a name of a ship that is currently park at the Swettenham Pier in Penang. On board is a mini books fair, or also can say it’s like a mini Popular bookstore featuring many Christian books, and also many other books too.

    E

Entrance is RM1 for everyone and free for children below 12 years old. I was curious and I went to check out the Logos Hope with my girlfriend, Hueisean to see what is it like on board.

It was the Hari Raya day 1, Malay friends went to visit and celebrate and we went to check out the floating book fair. Upon arrival, I see many people queue up to get on the ship.

To my surprise, the queue was pretty long and it took about 20 minutes to reach the entrance. Since it was near to sea, with sea breeze blowing, it’s nice to wait patiently and chit-chat at the same time. Slowly, we reached the ship and we got excited.

The Logos Hope, by GBA Ships travel around the world with a vision of “Bringing knowledge, help and hope to the people of the world.” I really salute the volunteer crew that work on board and travel around the world with most of the time on the ship. It’s not an easy job.

Thankfully, the weather was pretty good, partially Sunny, with a cloudy blue sky. We walked into the ship slowly, up the stairs, into the main deck where the book fair is.

Best part is that it’s open until 10pm from Tuesday to Sunday and everyday open at 10am except Sunday at 1pm. So you can go relax in the ship sometimes although there’s nothing much.

Upon entering, I could see many people wandering around. There’s an area where people can see the history of the ship in both electronic media format and photo format. I was not really interested in it, so took a photos with the logo and started to go with the flow.

GBA Ships! Yeah. Do you know GBA? I think many don’t know about because everyone now is so high tech and advance and only know about iPhone and PSP, GBA was the GameBoy Advance, a gaming device with better graphic. I had one and sold it. Ouch.

Went to check out the books with many Christianity books around. Some are good buy because they are cheap but I have no idea how old are them. Lot’s of language dictionary too. I was looking for home improvement interior design book, I found but didn’t buy any because they were too old. If you are a book lover, you must get on board and I am sure you will find your desire books.

One cool thing is that the price of the book on the ship is using Units and 100 Units is RM8. I wonder why.

Found a cafe named International Cafe selling pop corn, pastry, some juice and soft drink but did not get any because of the long queue, then we went out of the ship and headed somewhere else!

Must visit if you are in Penang. If you are in Kuala Lumpur, it’s coming to Port Klang this month on 28th September 2011 and park for a month. Check out the schedule at the site.

P/S: Good night people, tomorrow got school! Down.

    Untitled

It’d been quite some times I didn’t meet up with this guys. 1 years and 9 months that I have been away from high school and them. High school was a good time, especially the friends and people that I stick together all the time.

Though, time tick tocks and everyone has their own life and way to go. It’s fated that we met and we walk our own life.

  • Goose At Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus

Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus is one of the nicest university campus in Malaysia, the school fees also very “nice (expensive)”, yet the campus is really good. There’s a not-very-big lake in the middle of the campus.

On a fine and cloudy, relaxing and lovely afternoon at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, students strolled around the lakeside and I saw animal by the lake.

The are the goose! I am not sure they are goose or duck. I thought it was duck, but mom told me it’s goose.

It’s goose because they are fatter and the neck is longer. What do you think?

These are the playful goose that always get onto the steps to find food. Students and passersby do feed them occasionally.

Luckily they didn’t get further onto the land, the found it bored and went back for a swim in the water. =D

  • Smurfs Figure At Gurney Plaza

I think Smurfs is a old school cartoon character because I did not know about just until recently which I have been seeing a lot of the upcoming’s Smurfs movie promo. It’s coming to the cinema in about 2 weeks time. I know that they are the cute little blue creature and they are coming into New York City (in the movie).

A buzz of Smurfs have been created with contest, t-shirts, figures and poster can be seen anywhere. A big marketing money have been throw into to make the movie a success. Eventually that I wanted to watch this movie too.

The Gurney Plaza mall in Penang is exhibiting many Smurfs character at the New Wing area and it’s allow people to take photos of them. It’s pretty cute and there’s really many many Smurfs, I assume there’s more than 100 of them!

    Untitled

    Untitled

I brought my camera, remove the lens cap, and start shooting around the cute little blue figures. =D

    Untitled

I saw many kids were posing there too for the camera of their papa and mama. Even adults take picture with them.

    Untitled

In conjunction with the movie, there’s a session where 3 huge Smurfs mascot come on stage and allow people to take photos with them. In order to pose with them, you have to present a receipt of spending of RM15 in the mall. People queue up with their receipts anxiously to take photos with them. Cute!

  • Parking And Walk To Taylor’s On Wednesday

This is quite a random post about what happened last Wednesday at Taylor’s University. Class was at in the middle of the day and I pretty hate it because of the hassle of looking for a parking spot in the campus.

Parking in university is always not a good thing as there’s so many student and cars where parking spots are not able to accommodate everyone, especially when selfish people like me don’t want to park at the paid zone. Even if I am forced to park at the paid zone, it would be full.

I parked far far away that afternoon, and took a nice walk about 400m to campus from car park. The weather was pretty cloudy and good. Wonder why it’s raining here so much, typhoon in Taiwan, hurricane in the USA and here we got the rainy days.

I wonder why the school want to collect fee for student’s parking. Why is the fee we paid isn’t able to cover a parking spot, I wonder why. It’s ok to collect money for parking fare, but at least built us a proper parking area with a good covered walkway that protect us from the shines and rain. Then I will shut my mouth up. Imagine walking to and from the car in the midst of hot sun or a rainy day.

Spotted an unknown lecturer got a surprise birthday wish from her friends. Pretty cool.

The school is getting more and more commercialize which isn’t a good way of promoting education. That’s reality, that’s fact.

One fact about Taylor’s University is that the traffic jam that occur around 4pm everyday. It’s the super big jam in campus, connecting out to the main road until the nearest traffic light. A normal good flow of traffic will takes about less than 10 minutes out but with a jam, do expect about half an hour.

I have already accepted the shity rocky parking, finding a parking spot and walking towards class. That’s my college life. HA! Blablabla.

  • Canon Sprint And Ricoh RZ-700s Film Camera

Canon Sprint And Ricoh RZ-700s Film Camera

Do you keep your old toys, stuff and gadget? Some like to trash it away as they think it’s taking up extra spaces. I don’t really like to throw away stuff because I think they are memorable and have a value in the future. Just look at the rusty exhibits at the museum and gallery, they are all old stuff.

Recently, I found 2 old camera in my house’s cabinet. It’s not really very old, but it’s there for more than 10 years. I wipe them with a clean cloth and I’m going to keep them well, as a exhibit, collection, and perhaps use it to take photos again.

The Canon Sprint, is a fixed focal length camera with 35mm and f/3.5 aperture with flash too. It uses 2 AAA batteries.

Another camera is the Ricoh RZ-700s which is a film camera that has a zoom function, but not sure about the auto-focus mode and aperture. Guess this is a lousy camera as my parents got it for free during a lucky draw session back then. It runs on a CR2 battery.

Pretty cool, if you have some unwanted and old camera and want to get rid of, donate it to me. =D

  • Lelong.my E-Commerce Fair 2011 At Mid Valley Exhibition Centre

Lelong.my E-Commerce Fair 2011 At Mid Valley Exhibition Centre

2 weeks ago, I went to check out the Lelong.my E-Commerce Fair at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre. It’s the first and biggest e-commerce fair in Malaysia organized by Lelong.my. Basically, it’s a fair where the online shops that sell on Lelong.my brings their product to the fair and sell it there. If you don’t know Lelong,my, it’s actually Malaysia’s version of eBay and it’s the largest online shopping website in the country.

Besides shopping offline at the e-commerce fair, there were also talks on how to set up your own online stores and online business, there’s also free goodies bag too!

The fair was pretty fun because that the shops that we normally see on the internet was at there physically and we could actually get a touch on the product which we normally don’t. I also found some good stuff at there and know about new store too which I will be doing more shopping online.

One thing, there’s actually lucky draw at the fair where people can walk away with handphones and gadget, as well as a Super Bid where bidding on gadget starts at RM1. Sadly, I couldn’t able to join as I was busy with assignment. Hmm.

Well, I checked out the opening ceremony and Lelong.my said that they will be organizing similar fair in the coming years. Seems interesting!
