Dimsum At Chong Qing Lao Huo Guo, Kelawai Road

The Chinese hot pot chain at Kelawai Road has been making the limelight lately in Penang for its good late night steamboat (that’s what we call hot pot in Penang) and every time I passed by the restaurant, it’s always full of patron’s vehicles from evening till midnight.

Though, the funny thing is I have yet to try the steamboat and I am looking forward for my next steamboat meal. As their opening hours is 5pm before sunset – 5am before sunrise, the restaurant was always close in the day and just until recently, it serves dim sum during the day which somewhat makes it an all day restaurant.

Being a Cantonese descendant, dim sum is essential in life. Hahaha, and we went for a Sunday breakfast. The crowds was strong but the waitress seemed unused to the dim sum serving as it took them long for us to make the order.

However, serving was pretty quick and thereafter, we were chomping our yummy siu mai (pork dumpling) and har gao  (shrimp dumpling) all the way. A quick recap with the dim sum I had, it’s not the best to my taste buds, yet it’s somewhat a step up if to compare with local Penang’s dim sum in Farlim or Lip Sin. I’ve been to dim sum in KL, Singapore, Hong Kong, London and Guangzhou and still nothing in Penang resembles the authentic-ness yet.

Tips, don’t order wan tan noodle and the cheong fun, it’s just, not good. Noodle soup was too blend, the noodle was soft and not springy; while the cheong fun’s shrimp was not fresh and the soy sauce was totally tasteless. Come back again? Probably. Still in search for good dim sum in Penang, I remembered Forum Restaurant at Island Plaza was good when I was small.

  • Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve

Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve

Penang: Lolipot Shabu-Shabu On Christmas Eve – The next time, if you ever wanted to go Lolipot Shabu-shabu on Christmas Eve or any other occasion, please, please make a reservation first! I’ll include the telephone number at the end of the post. Hahahaahaha.

Funny and interesting and cute name – Lolipot. =D
Arron Lim, the India boy, because he is studying in India.
    Me and Alvin.

Alvin suggested Lolipot for Christmas Eve’s dinner and we were there at 8.30pm and it’s really full, full of people. The staff told us that we don’t need to wait anymore even though there’s one unseated table beca.use it’s reserved. We insisted to wait, for the next half hour but no luck. Until we decided to walk away, to somewhere else, the staff ran out and inform us that one customer cancelled their reservation. Is us lucky or too persevere?

    Milksoup.

It’s my first time to Lolipot, a special name and it’s local style of shabu-shabu as each person gets their own pot and there’s 4 choices of soup – Clear 清汤,Tomyam, Kim Chi & Milk. Sounds interesting right? But I am more a heavy taster, so tomyum it was! The experience gets better if we get to sit near the moving belt as  we can take anything we want from the belt like sushi for the steamboat. Either way, we order from a piece of paper and wait for it to be served. Not bad, something special, and it’s All-You-Can-Eat @ RM38++/person and pretty worth it and hygienic because you eat with your own pot.

    Arron, me, Simon and Alvin.

Interesting place for steamboat/shabu-shabu and that’s my Christmas Eve dinner 3 guys! Yeah and no girls.

Extra member for Christmas Eve – Raykee Gor eating McChicken Nugget and Simon.

Chaiwei, Me, Yiphing, Raykee, Simon and Arron.

Actually, we don’t really have plan for Christmas, nor the feel for it, we spent like 15 minutes standing by the roadside thinking where to go, spent 15 minutes in the car counting down for Christmas and see other people celebrated it. Ended eating McChicken Nuggets at McDonald’s at 1am with extra 3 friends. Haha.

Not a bad night out, Christmas only mah… Merry Christmas! =)

Ground floor is not the steamboat. You enter via the stairs beside, but then the ground floor restaurant has the similar design.

Klang Valley: Dragon Door Steamboat 龙门客栈火锅店 – My friend Wesley has been telling me how good and special the steamboat is and I went to tried it last week, I felt … OKOK-only.

You will be welcome by a wall of the shop owners photo taken with some celebrities. Do note that some photos are repeating to create a illusion that super celebrities were here before. Haha, but in fact, there’s quite many celebrities have been there.
    The interiors.

What’s so special about this Dragon Door Steamboat at Cheras, near to Leisure Mall is the interior setting which is very cool, warm and got feel, and then the steamboat is fired by a real charcoal pot which many people claims that it taste better like this. I was not really surprised with charcoal steamboat as there’s one in Penang already.

Guys of Diploma In Interior Design @ Taylor’s University – Arvin, Moh, Gino, Steve and Wesley.

There’s no set menu, it’s all a la carte where you order the dishes one by one of your choice which I find it’s pretty difficult to get satisfaction, more over we are student and keep thinking how much it costs in the end. There’s plenty of sauce for you to mix and match to be eaten with your steamboat that I feel is nice.

Oops, photo was bombed by the steam. Anyway, I very hate Si Chuan Spicy Soup.

Whereas the soup were pretty good too except for the Si Chuan spicy soup which I’ve never fancy about all the while, I like the pork leg soup which surprisingly didn’t result in the craving of fluid like other steamboat’s soup does that has lots of MSG.

    Us again.

Well, it’s a nice place, a little bit pricey and confusing that they should have set menu, and I prefer La Mei Zi in Penang.
