Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street – Life back in Penang Island is really awesome, food exploration is never ending and eating is the main culture here. Penang is truely a food heaven. I just love spending time at my hometown, air is fresher, life is more relaxing and healthier here.

Recently, I went to check out a new Chinese restaurant in the core of George Town @ Campbell Street – Midland Kitchen. If you know about the Midland Restaurant at Midland Park, then you might get some idea of the food serves. It’s opened by the same person who operated Midland Restaurant.

Located in one of the eclectic styles colonial-style shophouse on Campbell Street, it blends a fusion design in the interiors. The setting is more towards a modern contemporary design, providing a new dining experience in town. What’s special is that this shophouse has 3 levels.

Each floor provide different dining style, the first floor is more towards intimacy dining and there’s a mini bar and the 2nd floor is a private group dining area. It’s pretty cool. Decoration is a bit simple, but the use of furniture makes it cool.

Now food time! Well, I don’t really know how to describe food but I’ll just make a it short and sweet about the dishes that we have orderd for lunch. First up, Minced Meat Toufu – mild-salty, soft and smooth toufu, taste good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Fuyong Omelet was just nice only, not too good compare the one I had before in KL.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lor Han Vegetarian Dish – not my type dish. My said it was good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

The last dish was not really a good one – Steamed Chicken With Chinese Wine, it’s not good because the chicken was too hard, not tender enough.

Anyway, will try some other dishes next time on my next visit. It’s not really awesome, but I’ll give it another opportunity. =D. As for Chinese restaurant, I prefer Tek Sen Restaurant, that’s really suit my taste bud.

  • Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall – It’s post about Paradigm Mall again, I am not promoting, just can’t help myself from sharing with you guys of what I have tried at the mall. Here’s another F&B outlet I went in Paradigm Mall – Ochado Signature bubble tea cafe. I believe many of you have heard about Ochado. =D

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Last time, I was a Taiwanese bubble fan, but now, I don’t really drink a lot because it’s fattening, but then I still drink occasionally. There’s many bubble tea outlet in Paradigm Mall, like Each A Cup, Chatime, Meet Fresh, and more I think. But then this Ochado Signature is the most appealing to me with a nice, simple and clean cafe design, which is a good place to chit chat with friends.

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

I visited the cafe on the first day went to Paradigm Mall with Arron and Carmen, we wanted a place to sit down and talk and found this. I am not really familiar with Ochado’s beverage, I am more to Chatime and Gongcha. After looking at the menu, I ordered myself a Ochado Pop Egg Milk Tea.

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Pop Egg is a pearl replacement in the milk tea and it pops once it’s in your mouth, kinda like caviar, but cheap version. It pops out a sweet taste. Well, it’s fun popping in your mouth but then I prefer bubble pearl which allows me to chew. Pop egg is too fast and has no sensation in the mouth. By the way, it costs RM5.90 for the regular cup of Pop Egg Milk Tea.

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama – I can’t believe Hui Lao Shan, the famous desserts chain in Hong Kong is in Malaysia. Few years ago, Singapore’s airport had out outlet but closed down. Many people also came to my blog to ask about the franchise question but I have no idea how to answer them, but now they are really here in Kuala Lumpur, one outlet at 1 Utama Shopping Mall, Damansara Utama and another one is at Pavilion Shopping Mall, Bukit Bintang.

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

It is located at the newly renovated old wings of 1 Utama Shopping Mall. I accidentally passed by the place while doing some window shopping then brother and I went to try out the desserts. I actually tried it before when I traveled to Hong Kong few years back but seldom eat it already because the price went up in Hong Kong.

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

Surprisingly, the price in Malaysia is cheaper, I would say affordable too. The menu is exactly the same as what you could find in Hong Kong and the staffs tried to speak Cantonese in Hong Kong accent. You can also find the box of plastic disposable spoon and fork same in Hong Kong too.

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

Brother ordered one Mango Fiesta 芒果小盛宴 (RM12.90) which consists of 3 thing, a mango ice cream, a mango ice-cream-cake thingy, and a mango blended with small glutinous ball (tang yuan). The mango ice-cream-cake-thingy is kinda nice it’s not really ice cream, but it’s not soft, I don’t know how to describe it, it’s special. Haha.

许留山甜品 Hui Lao Shan Hong Kong Desserts @ 1 Utama

Mine is the Mango & Fruits Combo 什果芒果捞野 (RM12.90), this one basically is a very healthy fruit plates with a foundation of mango blended ice and topped with various fruits like coconut jelly, kiwi, strawberry, watermelon, honeydew and lots of sweet mango! Yums. Although, the price is not very cheap, but then still cheaper than in Hong Kong, so eating it once in a while is OK. Haha. But then the location in 1 Utama is not very good as it’s not easily spotted by people. They should open one in SS15, Subang Jaya, or maybe Paradigm Mall, which are near to me! Hahaha.

  • Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market (Pasar Bukit Bintang)

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg Breakfast @ Imbi MarketKnown to Imbi Market to locals, but officially known as the Pasar Bukit Bintang which is a wet market located stone throw away from Bukit Bintang shopping district. I never know there’s such a nice wet market located in the centre of Kuala Lumpur providing good food and culture. This place gives me a feeling of eating at places like Presgrave Market (5th Road Market) in Penang.

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market
Original Sisters Crispy Popiah where you can find it almost at any mall in Kuala Lumpur. Previously Taylor’s University has a stall but no idea why it’s closed down now.

I was searching for kaya bread and half-boiled egg for breakfast and found this place on Google. I set up my Waze app GPS from my phone and headed to this place. Upon arriving, I felt good, seeing locals shopping for groceries and many people eating at the food stalls area. This place is fun, this place is so local.

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

Wan Tan Mee, Steam Bread & Egg @ Imbi Market

I was too excited and saw many good food around, having no idea which is the best, I randomly ordered a set of kaya steam bread + half boiled egg, and also a plate of wan tan noodle. I’ve got to say all of them were good too me except the wan tan mee was expensive @ RM5/plate! OMG. Although the noodle is springy and the char siew is sweet and BBQ enough but then it’s kinda expensive. In Penang, you can find similar wan tan mee for RM2.50 at Chowrasta Market!

As for the steam kaya bread, it’s good, but Toh Soon’s Cafe has a better one. Haha. I heard that there’s another stall has good kaya toast (instead of steam) at this market too, I am going to check out next time.

I have a scrumptious breakfast that morning and I will come back again, for other food.

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL – Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken is very famous in Taiwan where many people queue for the large fried chicken fillet. Now it has come to Malaysia and there’s two outlet, one at SS15 and another at the basement of Pavilion shopping mall. I always very tempted to try it out, curious that why is it so popular in Taiwan and last week, I bought myself a piece of original large fried chicken.

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL

This kinda of large fried chicken is a street snack origin from Taiwan. You can normally find them in pasar malam in Malaysia and it’s not healthy because of the deep fried cooking method. Haha.

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL

Taiwan Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken @ Pavilion, KL

It costs RM7.90 for a piece of Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken, RM1 – RM2 more than those typical large fried chicken at pasar malam. You can also ask for the level of spiciness. I ordered a mid-spicy level one. What’s so special about it is it’s really very huge, they guarantee the fried chicken fillet is 30cm long and seriously, it’s that big. First few bites is pretty good, but after that I felt I have enough of it, it’s too big and I felt full after eating half of it. Hahaha. One thing, it takes a while for your fried chicken to be ready as they fried upon your order. You get a drinks with the set @ RM9.65 (only ice lemon tea available).

If there’s a chance, I’m gonna try the original one in Taiwan Shihlin. Anyway, I prefer KFC more than this one. How about you?

Famous 45-Minutes Pork Noodle @ Ooi Noodle House, SS15

Famous 45-Minutes Pork Noodle @ Ooi Noodle House, SS15 – My friend told me about a famous pork noodle (g yok fun) in SS15, Subang Jaya. I didn’t really bother about until a day, suddenly my mind feels like finding it. I search on Foursquare about the location and I not really sure, it says ‘Famous 45-minutes Pork Noodle’, so I follow the map on Foursquare and reaches this Ooi Noodle House.

I asked for 2 bowls of pork noodles, koay teow and the person told me, “Need to wait 45-minutes wor…”. I was like, really?

I went in to the cafe, it was tea time about 3pm, I saw many people were waiting for the pork noodle, reading newspaper, playing with iPhone and iPod. Seems like everyone is OK with the wait, so me and my dear Hueisean waited together, chatting the way to our pork noodle to arrive.

It costs RM5/bowl and to be honest, the soup is really tasty. It’s very sweet and ‘pork-ful’. There’s sinful deep fried lard, minced meat, pork liver, sliced lean pork and vegetable. I guess it really lives off with the name of 45-minutes pork noodle. I’ve got to say, it worth the wait (once in a while). I really like the pork noodle, but the wait is kinda long somehow, have to wait for the mood comes again and I’ll visit the shop – Ooi Noodle House.

Another Taiwanese Milk Tea - Mocato Tea @ SS15, Subang Jaya

My Penang friend, Yiphing and Chien Chern came to dinner with me and after dinner we didn’t know where to go, randomly suggested SS15. At SS15, we randomly came to Mocato Tea because it’s something new that we haven’t try before. It’s quieter there, and the interior ambience is kinda cool too! They have Unifi hotspot somemore for high speed Internet.

Another Taiwanese Milk Tea - Mocato Tea @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Actually nowadays bubble tea feels all the same to me, Gong Cha, Chatime, Sharetea and so many more. It’s just for the fun of drinking it and spending time at a different environment. I ordered myself a Black Jelly Milk Tea (RM5.90 regular cup) and it’s actually standard milk tea with a kind of stripe chewy black jelly. Very springy, very Q, but I prefer pearl more.

I don’t know it’s nice or not, I also don’t really have much confidence in him, but I did see many people queuing up for it.

What’s happening was the Borneo Jazz Festival brought in a few hawker-style food stall to Taylor’s for 2 days to promote the Borneo Jazz Festival which is happenings now. I have no idea, the event is this weekend but they promote it few days before, how can people here have time to buy air tickets to fly there? Anyway, it’s nice to see the food stalls here, it feel lively, awesome, fun, shiok, and shuang, although I didn’t buy anything. Hahaha. I was too lazy to queue is another reason.

Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas

Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas – One of my school’s design project is to visit some local brand restaurant and experience the design. But then I’m not going to talk about design but food! One of my favourite food is Thai food, because the food taste is very suitable for Northen Malaysian who likes strong sour and spicy taste.

I went to one Thai restauran at Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur – My Elephant. Upon entering, it doesn’t feels like it’s a restaurant serving Thai food, the design and decorations is very modern and simple. The restaurant is very narrow and not-big. It was lunch time and they have special set menu. Only at night that you get to order their a la carte menu. We actually went to the restaurant quite early, 1 hour before it’s official opening hour, the staff was kind to allow us to go in to wait. We made our order and waited for the food to be served at 12pm sharp.

They have a plenty of food in their lunch menu, Pad Thai (Thai beef noodle), tomyum seafood, fried rice and more. There’s 4 types of fried rice and each of us (my team member) ordered a different fried rice each, starting from RM9.90. Check it out below.

Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas
Khao Phad Tom Yum – Tomyum Fried Rice (RM12.90) – Strong taste of Thai food spices, I don’t really like about it, my friend Arvin liked it.

Khao Phad Sapparot – Pineapple Fried Rice (RM9.90) – Plenty of pineapple hidden in the rice and the rice is fried with curry powder, taste a bit salty, not bad.

Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas
Khao Phad Kapi – Thai Belachan Fried Rice (RM9.90) – Served with sour mango, sweet dried shrimp, and sweet pork, tasted pretty good, the belachan taste is awesome.

Lunch At My Elephant Thai Restaurant, Sri Hartamas
Khao Phad Lychee – Lychee Fried Rice (RM9,90) – Something different, but like typical fried rice top with a lychee.

Frankly, all of the fried rice at there were kinda nice, the taste are good, the place is clean and the food presentation is very well too. Lunch menu comes with a fresh pandan drinks too. Definitely I will go back again to try out other food.
