Tua Bui Teik Durian Stall With Authentic Local Penang Durian

Durian prices has shoot up very high this year with the famous Maoshanwang selling at almost RM90/kg, that’s very crazy compare to last years about RM60/kg. But then, coming to Penang for a durian trip is not about looking for the all time durian king, but to savour the local type of durian that’s grown in the hill of Balik Pulau which is well known in this island and throughout the region too!

Not many durian left during our after lunch visit on a weekday.

Forget about Maoshanwang, forget about D24, when you are in Penang, you eat what the locals eat, you eat what the local produces e.g. Ang Hair (Red Prawn), Tek Ka (Bamboo Leg), Hor Lor (no idea), Orh Qi (Black Thorn) and so on, funny name right. I don’t know how to differentiate yet, I only know how to spot the real Maoshanwang, that its ass has a 5 point star shape.

But, how do you know you are eating good Penang durian? Just check out Tua Bui Teik (you can just call him Ah Teik) stall located on side of Perak Road, in front of a little Tua Pek Kong Shrine, he’s the real good man who introduces good local durian at a reasonable price. I know there’s a another stall that is nearby which is very famous, and I am pretty sure you will get a shock on the bill too, which adds its fame.

Xiao Hong (Little Red), totally no idea how she got its name.

Tek Ka (Bamboo’s Leg), funny name and it taste like Maoshanwang’s brother, but still cannot be the king yet.

You will never go wrong with Teik’s durian! Damage of the day, RM130 for Tek Ka & Xiao Hong. Personal new favourite – Tek Ka.

Just note, he started his selling in the morning which he will pack up when the durian finishes at about 3-4pm. Lunch time is a good time to visit.

  • Petaling Jaya: SS2 Durian Buffet Is Not Bad At All

Petaling Jaya: SS2 Durian Buffet Is Not Bad At All

Petaling Jaya: SS2 Durian Buffet Is Not Bad At All – Surprisingly, the durian ‘eat-all-you-can’ buffet at SS2, Petaling Jaya is not bad at all. Funny thing is the durian buffet is all year long and has not effect from the the durian season. Anyway, since now is the 2nd durian season of the year and I don’t want to be left out from the durian trend, I went to eat with my friend Arvin and Hock Sheng.

    They have website somemore! www.durianss2.com
Me, Arvin of Indonesia and Hock Sheng.

I only know how to eat but don’t really know how to buy. It’s dad that pick and buy durian all the time back at home and durian cost like RM15/durian. You know, I have once ate 4 durian that costed us RM100 in Balik Pulau, Penang! No idea why. But interestingly at here, it’s RM15/person here and you can eat all you can. You can find a row of similar ‘eat-all-you-can’ durian at SS2, but we went to the corner one as it has the most people. They have different rate, RM9, RM15 and RM25. Well, no idea RM25 is it the best durian, so be safe in the middle.

    Durian, here’s the durian.

Sit down and the person started opening durian and put on the table. We just eat, some was good, some was not, just throw them away. They will open a new one again until we say stop. =D Surprisingly, they are not bad at all, perhaps my tongue is not a golden tongue that can detect awesome durian. But then, still feeling good with the durian taste in my mouth. Not bad, not bad, can try! At least, we can ignore those bad durian without additional charge.

By the way, share with me how to see good durian!

  • Nice Durian Pancake By Sumptuous Desserts

It’s autumn, it’s September already and the super awesome durian seaon has finally over. However, it doesn’t mean that you cannot eat durian right now, there’s still durian out there, it’s just that not many and the price is pretty expensive now, and you need to go around to find, it’s not as easy to find during durian season like there are stalls everywhere.

Nice Durian Pancake By Sumptuous Desserts

Recently, I came across with something call the durian pancake. I have heard about durian cake before but this is my first time encounter with durian pancake. I was invited by the co-founder of Sumptuous Desserts to try out their durian pancake at Sunway Pyramid. It’s located right behind the McDonald’s ice cream kiosk and I wonder why I didn’t notice about it every time I passed by last time.

Let’s check out the menu first and see the price and what interested you. =)

As you can see, they have quite a variety of pancake, mainly durian and cempedak, there’s also mango too, as well as special made cream puff which had been localized.

So, durian pancake is basically is a thin layer, very thin layer of pancake skin, wrapping the delicious yummy real durian cream with a bit of white cream. Sounds interesting right? But how it taste like and how is the texture and experience?

I want to share with you guys a very cool thing is that the texture, the feeling, the experience is just almost the same, 95% same like eating the real king of fruit – durian, just without the big seed. It tasted the same, with the sweet, strong odor yellow durian cream inside, a little bit mixture of white cream makes the durian pancake a fruitful experience for durian lover like me.

The durian pancake is best to serve right out of the fridge when it’s icy cold because it makes eating durian fun and chilling in a hot and tropical country of Malaysia.

A little cool information is that the durian cream is extrated from high quality D24 durian. In term of the content level, the pancake consist of 34g of real durian cream and 28g of white cream. Sounds yum yum right?

I did try cempadak pancake too, the cempadak taste was there but somehow I am more into the durian pancake.

    Have you tried before?
