  • Dinner at Who’s Bryan Cafe, Raja Uda

Dinner at Who’s Bryan Cafe, Raja Uda

Recently, I just found out that Raja Uda of Butterworth has many hidden gems. There’s lots of nice cafe, and food lying around Raja Uda, Butterworth area. Luckily, Penang island and butterworth is only just a little sea across or to be specific, half an hour away. I should go there hunt for food more. =)

So one fine tuesday, I went over to Raja Uda for dinner. At first, I wanted to go for the famous tomyam noodle but then it didn’t open that day. Weird. Then I just went around Raja Uda area to look for restaurant randomly and I found this nice looking restaurant + cafe, Who’s Bryan, located on Jalan Ong Yi How, somewhere near Jalan Raja Uda.

It was kinda late already and feeling hungry, so I didn’t care about looking for other already, so dearest and I just went in and sit down.

It’s a nice looking restaurant. The interior is quite nice, with live band playing nice Chinese music at there, the atmosphere seems good for youngster to hangout and chit chat.

Well, looking at the menu, they serve mainly western food with some local dishes like fried rice.

There’s also combo or also known as set meal for some where you top up some money and get extras like soup, salad and beverage.

Let’s go into the food. I ordered my main course with the combo D, so it comes with a mushroom soup, with a little garlic bread cube in it. Tasted a little bit salty but kinda nice. I like this.

Then the next thing that come with the combo is the salad. It’s just vegetable, plain salad with very little sauce and it’s not so nice because of that little sauce.

Here comes the main course. It’s the spaghetti bolognese, chicken. To be honest, it’s so-so only. It seems like asian style to me instead of western-ish feel with creamy bolognese sauce. I should try other food next time.

So, the food is so-so only but this is a nice place to hang out and chit chat with friends at night because of the atmosphere, live band and some snacks to order, there’s beer too! If got chance will go back and try other food. =)

  • Monday SS2 Pasar Malam With Arron Lim

Monday SS2 Pasar Malam With Arron Lim

I would like to make this short and sweet because I am super firing right now as I wrote the whole post already but the blogging service didn’t save my stuff and I have to rewrite again. Since I still have many stuff to update, I’ll let the photo speaks can they? =)

I am a pasar malam a.k.a. night market fans, as you know. I visit lots of pasar malam and this pasar malam at SS2, Petaling Jaya is the first pasar malam I visited after I come to KL for studies. KL and PJ are different place at there but to not confuse my reader who are from their lovely place, KL will become the general word of the place I am at.

On a lovely Monday, I went to the night market with my good high school buddy, Arron, who is from Penang also. We went there for dinner, walk walk and also to look for the famous Penang Asam Laksa. Yeah.

Driving from Bandar Sunway to SS2 takes like about 15 minutes provided smooth traffic at Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong. But then looking for a parking at there is haste as we rounded the area for 3 times only can find a parking space by the roadside. A reminder is that keep all valuable thing nicely because you know, there’s all sorts of people. =)

I was surprised to see that there’s pirated DVD vendors at because I don’t normally see them at the night market back in my hometown. And you know I am not a fan of pirated DVD at night market, I prefer… haha, you know… hehe.

Walk around at there and found many special street food like satay, chicken on a stick, mini burger, special taiwanese sausage, lots of bubble tea and more! I super like Taiwanese sausage and bubble tea, wondering when will I get the chance to go to taiwan to try the REAL thing.

One thing want to say is walking at this SS2 pasar malam is a little bit discomfort because the stalls are too closed to each other and the walkway is too narrow as the crowds are huge at there.

The best part of the night was finding the famous Penang Asam Laksa which makes me feel a bit at home at last. The taste is almost different but couldn’t say 100%, but it’s just almost. =) Any recommendation more for night market? Do check out Taman Connaught’s Night Market that I visited too!

  • 18 Birthday Celebration at JF Western Food

18 Birthday Celebration at JF Western Food

Hahahahahahahaha. My birthday is 16th July and I am 18 years old now. Now is already October it’s already 3 months late, this post is really old but I don’t care, I still want to post SOME photos and share it up with you guys and also archive it here so next time I can read again. =D

On 16th July 2010, it was a Friday, I invited a bunch of friends, got Chien Chern, Boo Teik, Yiphing, Ammerlynn, Sherreen, Zheng Feng, Zez Chien and Alvin to JF Western Food at Fettes Park to eat dinner on my treats.

    Chien Chern.

    Yiphing.

But before dinner, I asked some of them come to my place to meet up with me only then we go there together. Chien Chern and Yiphing brought presents! And I don’t want to share what’s that. LOL. Pretty cool.

Still remember that I went to NS few months back? Luckily my hair came out for my birthday, not much, but still not bald, botak.

I did not make a reservation on that place and luckily they have tables for all of us. Everyone get to order everything they like and eat all the can. You don’t wanna know how much we ate because we just ate so damn lot.

Tiger bear from Boo Teik. Really cute present. Hahaha.

    Zheng Feng a.k.a. Johnny.

    Camera shy, Sherreen and Ammerlynn.

I have two cake that night. One is from mommy and another one is from Ammerlynn. Funny thing about mommy is that she asked me whether I wanted a cake or not and I told us that “why can’t you give me a surprise?”, then she said “ok no cake for you”, but in the end bought a cake. Hahaha.

You know, after eating all the western food, our stomach was so full and bloated and we still tried very hard to finish the cake. At first, I thought of taking half of the cake home but in the end, don’t know how, we manage to finish everything. Really damn full. But then some of them didn’t feel so comfortable because of too full.

Have cake will also have cake cutting session and birthday song. I am not really a “make a wish” person because I didn’t really do it last time, but this time I made a wish, no, in fact is many wish. I am very greedy one. Haha. Hopefully my wishes goes well and will come true. =D

Sherreen and Ammerlynn! Ignore Ammerlynn. LOL.

Boo Teik, thanks for your tiger! And taking the roses from Arron to me. Haha.

    Zheng Feng.

    Alvin, long long friend.

    Yiphing, long long friend.

Zez Chien, friend friend friend. =D

    Chien Chern, buddy friend!

They love hugging the tiger actually.

Happy birthday to me, happy 18 years old, happy happy everyday to you and to me. =)

p/s: Thank you Arron for you roses.
pp/s: Thank you everyone for your wishes last time. =D

  • Real Spicy Batu Road Chilli Pan Mee at Taipan, USJ

Real Spicy Batu Road Chilli Pan Mee at Taipan, USJ

Pan Mee is always a soup based to me when I was in Penang. Later then I got approached with dry pan mee, which basically pan mee with soy sauce. Stalls in Penang has “Sarawak” in front of the name “pan mee”, I asked my Sarawakian friend about pan mee at there but he told me he doesn’t really know about pan mee being famous in Sarawak. Until now, I don’t know where is the really originality of pan mee. Last week, a blogger friend, Yong Xiang brought me to Taipan, USJ there to try out a famous Chilli Pan Mee.

Basically, Chilli Pan Mee is actually dry pan mee later then add in the dry chilli paste, stir your noodle and it will become Chilli Pan Mee. I was curious and I am a spicy eater so I ordered a bowl to eat.

It comes with a soup in case your noodle is too dry, you can add some soup to wet your noodle.

Normal Pan Mee with dry ikan bilis and minced meat and an egg. Simple as that, but when the homemade spicy chilli paste is added, it tasted all different. And what I wanted to say is, it’s really very very spicy! It’s different from bitting the little cut chilli, or chilli sauce. The Chinese called it 麻辣 (mandarin: ma1 la4) which numb your taste bud and give you a spicy feel. It’s not instant and it’s the most spiciest feel ever. I saw Yong Xiang added 3 scoop of the chilli paste and I added 2 scoop and it’s really very spicy. I wonder how he could eat it.

For newbie, I recommend you to start with half a scoop to feel the taste first. If it’s not enough only add more. If you have a bad stomach, you better don’t eat it. You will feel it when you go to toilet the next day.

We also ordered a bowl of 水饺 (mandarin: shui2 jiao3) Chinese Water Dumplings. This is good, something which balance the taste buds from spiciness. What’s so good is the soup of course, but the best is the dumpling which is big and filled with many ingredient in it. I like this.

Overall, this place is pretty cool, but next time for sure I will not add in so many chilli paste already, it’s crazy.

    Victor and Yong Xiang.

I checked around and this restaurant is not only available in Taipan, USJ but several places. So you can check it out if you have never been to before and want to try some spiciness.

The dinner was so full, I ordered something call Chicken don’t know what Pratta. It’s like roti canai chopped into pieces mixed with chicken and lots of onion. Very full after the meal because I had bak zhang before going to Sri Ananda as the next day was Bak Zhang Festival.

Night Char Koay Teow at Sa Tiao Lor 三条路 Gat Lebuh Presgrave

    IMG_3669 by nicholaschan

Last time I introduced before the Fried Rice at Lebuh Presgrave or more known as Sa Tiao Lor 三条路 to the locals. Last night, I went there for supper and I ordered the Char Koay Teow from the same stall that does the nice fried rice.

The char koay teow quite delicious which I likey it. Just a bit sad that there’s only 2 not very big shrimp and a little bit spicy. If the shrimp gets bigger like at Lorong Selamat, and juicy, then it will be very very good.

Lor Duck is actually teowchew inspired braised duck. I went to have dinner at Maga Kopitiam at Jalan Perak there just now and I ordered a plate of lor duck rice.

    DSC04102 by nicholaschan

    DSC04103 by nicholaschan

For RM3.50, I got a plate of lor duck and a plate of rice. I couldn’t say the duck was awesome, it’s good but not awesome. The duck was braised with the lor sauce, then there’s garlic and green onion. Eating the duck meat with the chili sauce was good. The set was not complete because there’s no vegetable. =)

  • Leo Forum 09:Moving Forward Banquet Night

Last year’s Leo Forum’s banquet night theme was Black and White and this year it was just Banquet Night and I didn’t since when it’s called Moving Forward with a gold and silver theme until I was told when I arrived at the venue which was the Sunshine Banquet Hall. They gave us silver and golden star to be paste on the shirt or anywhere that can be seen but somehow, people took it off after some times.

I was not really fancy that night, very simple. A shirt and a tie and that’s me. Wanted to get a blazer before the event but didn’t really have a time to go and custom made one. I got a a tiny body so it’s not easy to look for one that suit me in the shops.

The meal was better than the night before because it’s not self service buffet, buffet is not fun because I hate queuing up for food and moreover there’s so many delegates. To be honest, I didn’t really eat much for this course dinner. One reason was the time interval between food was very long and I was so tired during that time as I just slept for like 3 hours the night before.

    IMG_5105 by you.

    IMG_5108 by you.

It’s a little bit stupid to see people moving around with the “Silent Please” sign, it’s just too noisy in the hall. One reason was, the food was not served early. Haha.

    IMG_5113 by you.

We sat really very very far from the stage and there’s not much entertainment going on that night. It was the top award giving ceremony. I got a Outstanding Vice President award in the afternoon on the same day and was hoping for a Top Vice President award but it went to someone else in Kuala Lumpur. Though, our club did got a Top Tresurer Award and that’s Jin Jie. =)

Food was not really important for that night as well as entertainment too. Award giving ceremony was already over and nothing much to be concern except moving around for photos. It’s the last night and need to take more photos for memories.

Photos speak for now, it’s just like a photograph night.
