  • Nando’s Malaysia Is So Cool

Nando’s Malaysia Is So Cool – Nando’s Malaysia is so cool, they posted the above image on their Facebook page to give support to Dato Lee Chong Wei. Yeah!

Now, check out the Nando’s that I had few days ago at Gurney Plaza.

I dislike Nando’s for not having free sky juice. I’ve to pay RM3 for this little bottle. =(

Ordered Hot Peri level of quarter chicken with coleslaws and Peri-chips. I guess next time order Mild Peri then I add in the sauce myself is better. =D

    Do you like Nando’s?

Afternoon Lunch At Kim Gary With Friends

Afternoon Lunch At Kim Gary With Friends – Back to KL, different lifestyle back here, no more heritage seeing, cycling, sunset/sunrise searching and street food, life in the city is always shopping mall, driving, restaurants and that’s it. Different place, different style of life.

Afternoon Lunch At Kim Gary With Friends

So, Sunday went to where? Went to Ikea, went to eat Kim Gary at The Curve – the kidnap mall with friends from, err, everywhere, Connie from Sandakan? Henry from Johor Bahru? Arvin Medan, Indonesia? Only Laiquen, the only KL local. Haha.

Super crowded at Ikea and The Curve and spent almost half of our afternoon in Kim Gary Restaurant. It’d been ages since I’ve visited Kim Gary Restaurant. Last time I used to visit it all the time when I was in Penang, but now very seldom already.

After eating until so full, we went Ikea for a while. I think there’s more people shopping in Ikea than at Tesco at that time. I’m starting to get bored of Ikea already because I’ve been there for so many time and I know where is what and the price. Haha. Although it’s boring, I still bought stuff, some storage box and a Golden Gate Bridge poster (will share other time when my room is clean XD). Well, I am waiting for a new term of Ikea catalogue (2013), guess soon already?

Anyway, check out the food we had today, not reviewing, just some food p0rn for you. =)

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street – Life back in Penang Island is really awesome, food exploration is never ending and eating is the main culture here. Penang is truely a food heaven. I just love spending time at my hometown, air is fresher, life is more relaxing and healthier here.

Recently, I went to check out a new Chinese restaurant in the core of George Town @ Campbell Street – Midland Kitchen. If you know about the Midland Restaurant at Midland Park, then you might get some idea of the food serves. It’s opened by the same person who operated Midland Restaurant.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Located in one of the eclectic styles colonial-style shophouse on Campbell Street, it blends a fusion design in the interiors. The setting is more towards a modern contemporary design, providing a new dining experience in town. What’s special is that this shophouse has 3 levels.

Each floor provide different dining style, the first floor is more towards intimacy dining and there’s a mini bar and the 2nd floor is a private group dining area. It’s pretty cool. Decoration is a bit simple, but the use of furniture makes it cool.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Now food time! Well, I don’t really know how to describe food but I’ll just make a it short and sweet about the dishes that we have orderd for lunch. First up, Minced Meat Toufu – mild-salty, soft and smooth toufu, taste good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Fuyong Omelet was just nice only, not too good compare the one I had before in KL.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

Lor Han Vegetarian Dish – not my type dish. My said it was good.

Lunch @ Midland Kitchen, Campbell Street

The last dish was not really a good one – Steamed Chicken With Chinese Wine, it’s not good because the chicken was too hard, not tender enough.

Anyway, will try some other dishes next time on my next visit. It’s not really awesome, but I’ll give it another opportunity. =D. As for Chinese restaurant, I prefer Tek Sen Restaurant, that’s really suit my taste bud.

  • Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall – It was 9pm on a Saturday night and the whole Paradigm Mall at Kelana Jaya was so crowded with people! I picked a wrong place for dinner already. I jammed in the car park, then I jammed inside the mall. It’s human everywhere! Every eatery outlet, restaurants, cafe have a queue outside their outlet.

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

I went to Sushi Zaimai at the top floor and found a long queue outside the Japanese restaurant too! No doubt about the queue because they always have queue outside their outlet all the time, except the one at Sunway Pyramid. It’s 9.30pm and so lucky that Hueisean and I were the last person who get to eat as we were the last order. I wonder why so early as it’s still 9,30pm only, guess they wanted to close shop earlier? Haha.

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

US! =D Hueisean dear and me.

The waitress took our order, queued for another half an hour, then we were sited in a big table. Our orders came fast. It’s a very simple dinner. We ordered a Spicy Ramen, a Chicken Karaage Don and a Dai Dai Roll.

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

Spicy Ramen (RM10.80) is a soup ramen with vegetable, mushroom and ramen. The soup is salty, a little bit spicy and I’ll say good, but then there’s not much ingredient in this bowl of ramen. There should have char siew or tamago. Hahaha.

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

Next is the Chicken Karaage Don (RM8.80) which is rice, fried chicken with sweet sauce and onion. The chicken is crispy fried in Japanese style, but I found that this dish is too dry and not nice eating it. I prefer Chicken Katsudon more with a bit gravy and egg.

Dinner At Sushi Zanmai, Paradigm Mall

Last one, a dozen of Dai Dai Roll (RM12.80). The name of this roll is really very funny, Dai Dai, die die? It’s sushi roll with slices of salmon on top, crab meat and avocado. It’s nice, but then the salmon is too thin already, it should have been a thicker cut. But since the price is OK, then it’s OK.

  • Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road

Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road

Set Lunch At Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road – I’ve so many food to blog about and now I’ve the time to write them up all on my blog. Some are dated back to last year. Haha. Forget about the date, forget about time, let’s indulge with some food pr0n, shall we?

In the finally weeks of December 2011, I went to meet up a good friend, Yiphing, together with other buddies for lunch at Salsas Restaurant, Penang Road. It’d been some times that we did not come out, sit down and eat. Everyone has their own business now.

Yiphing suggested Salsas Restaurant for our meet up lunch as she’s working as an intern at that area. I guess this was my second time eating out at Salsas Restaurant as the first time was long ago when Salsas was still at Kelawai Road.

Salsas Restaurant serves western food and they have a variety of set meal to pick for lunch. The price of set lunch starts from RM13.90+. Well, I picked a set meal that costs RM15.50+ and that’s a Baked Penne Pasta as a main course.

Each set meal comes with a starter of soup or salad, a main course, a desserts and a drinks.

    This is Yiphing.

Starter – Mushroom Soup with Toasted Bun.

    Starter 2 – Healthy Salad.

Main Course – Baked Penne Pasta in cream sauce with shredded chicken ham, mushroom and cheese.

Main course 2 – Grilled chicken breast with mushroom cream, served with fresh vegetables and potatoes.

Desserts – Vanilla ice cream and a piece of cake.

Overall, I find the food at there is not bad and kinda affordable. The place is crowded with office workers around that area during lunch. The desserts was just normal in my opinion.

Salsas Restaurant is located in Continental Hotel.

  • Tainan Restaurant at Midlands Park Shopping Centre, 1-Stop

Tainan Restaurant at Midlands Park Shopping Centre, 1-Stop

Midlands Park Shopping Centre or more to known as 1-Stop is a place in Pulau Tikus which was a glory during 199x. However, the crowds get lesser and lesser and there’s not much retail shop except it’s famous for DVDs and computer accessories. People visit there just to eat McDonald’s, KFC or perhaps a short walk by the people who are residing in the Berjaya George Town Hotel just next to it.

My recent visit changed my view on Midlands Park Shopping Centre and found that there’s actually quite a number of F&B outlets serving office workers mostly and the locals.

    IMG_7583

Well, I am glad to be invited by Chin Wai, the owner of Tainan Restaurant in Midlands Park Centre for a little food testing and sharing session. I am a fan of Taiwanese food especially for those beef noodle, and fried chicken chop and of course bubble tea and when I got the invitation, I was so excited and surprised because I didn’t know there’s actually a Taiwanese restaurant at 1 Stop Midlands Park.

According to Chin Wai, this restaurant has over 10 years of history and features a classic and homey look which he said will be renovate and redesign the place to a more modern look. Even though the place looks classic and homey, there’s still frequent customers who visit the place quite often as some said it gives a sense of home.

So let’s get into some food shall we? =) He served us bubble tea nicely for each of us. It may not be the best bubble tea compare to Chatime, Gong Cha or whatever out there, but still it’s a good bubble tea at a Taiwanese restaurant.

Their food menu normally comes with a soup, beverage and dessert. Here what you see above is Golden Drumstick Rice (RM7.50). A crispy chicken drumstick with rice and minced pork topping and a little vegetable.

If you are a fan of chicken wings not the drumstick, they got the Golden Chicken Wing Rice (RM7) too, actually it comes with rice just but we didn’t want that many rice that day. It’s cheaper than the drumstick by RM0.50 and to me I like the chicken wing more than the drumstick, it’s even crispier and tastier.

Taiwan is always famous for crispy deep fried food. What you are seeing above is the Pork Chop (RM7 with rice) and it’s crispyness makes it tasted good and keep wanting more.

If you fancy something different with a little bit mayonnaise topping and crispyness, the Crispy Nestum Chicken Ball (RM8) is good. The Nestum added a little bit of cereal oats taste, making it feel more than chicken and it’s feel a little bit like chicken nugget, but in an oriental way.

Taiwan is famous for beef noodle. If you go to Taiwan, beef noodle can be seen almost at anywhere. At Tainan Restaurant, they do serve Beef Noodle too. What’s special is the soup which actually more creamy than normal Taiwanese beef noodle. The beef taste is strong and overall it’s OK-good.

I am a fan of Taiwanese sausage because of the tenderness and sweetness in the sausage. It tasted special and they have it too at RM8.50 which comes with rice.

Lastly, check out their Prawn Roll (RM7.50) which stuffed little shrimp in it and have a crispy skin outside. It looks like lobak but actually it’s shrimp. Comes with rice too!

So, here you go, a little intro of a mini Taiwanese restaurant at Midlands Park 1 Stop and you now have another place for lunch and dinner. Cheer~

  • Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant #2

    Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant #2

Today’s noon was raining heavily everywhere in Penang. Was thinking to eat at Sin Kheng Aun Hainanese Food but it was difficult to look for a parking, then changed our mind to TekSeng Restaurant but it’s not open today and finally we went to Kopitan Restaurant for lunch with mom and dad.

    IMG_0111
    Kopitan’s Coffee – RM3.50

I found it not bad last time, so it’s a OK-GOOD lunch place. Luckily we found a parking right outside the restaurant and it was full of people inside. Surprisingly, the serving time for beverage and rice meal was fast. But it take rather slow for the toast.

    IMG_0115

The rice dish was fast in serving is probably because it’s easy to prepare as the chicken is chicken chop, just poured with different type of sauces. I ordered myself a plate of Mushroom Chicken Chop Rice (RM8.90) which I couldn’t find any mushroom on it. It’s the sauce on the chicken that tasted mushroom. Somehow, I think this is s0-so only, nothing much special, I more prefer the Kam Heong’s.

    IMG_0117

Mom likes the toast at there. She always praised that the bread use for the toast and how good and soft it is. This time, she ordered a Sausage and Cheese Toast (RM5.90) which I could say, it’s good! I like the softness of the bread, the little sausage slice on top of the bread, the cheese melts in the mouth and the sweetness of sugar on the bread. This is good.

  • Chicken Cordon Bleu At LK Western Food

Chicken Cordon Bleu At LK Western Food

In Penang, Malaysia, Western Food is not food like Beef Burger, Pizza, Tapas and Magaritas. When we talk about “western food” here, it’s chicken chop, fish n’ chips, chicken Maryland, cook in a simple deep fried way, serve with some french fries and salad, and selling at as little as RM8. These are modified version of the real western food that suits everyone, somehow I’ll call it Asian-Local style Western food.

One of my favourite pick is not chicken chop, or fish n’ chips but it’s the Chicken Cordon Bleu. It’s deep fried chicken stuffed with cheese, ham and sausage. It tasted really good when eat with tartar sauce.

Last night, I went to LK Western Food, opposite Chung Ling High School on Jalan Air Itam for dinner. They have renovate the place which they took over the cybercafe CS2 and expanded their restaurant. I think because of renovation, their price up too. The Chicken Cordon Blue I ordered is RM10.50.

So how about the taste? Pretty good! With sausage, ham and cheese stuffed in the deep fried chicken and get another sausage to eat. The presentation of the dish is pretty too, somehow I still like the one at James Foo Western Food. Anyway, this is still a good eat, I no need to wait and queue for long like at James Foo Western Food.

  • Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant, Logan Heritage, Beach Street

Lunch At Kopitan Restaurant, Logan Heritage, Beach Street

    P1070020

Do you know about the Logan Heritage on Beach Street? It’s a new refurbished and restoration of old heritage building, turning into F&B outlet, shops and offices. There’s another one next to it is the Whiteway’s Arcade.

    P1070026

Today’s lunch was at Kopitan Restaurant and I went there with mom. It’s super easy to find as it’s located on Beach Street (Lebuh Pantai), right opposite of RBS bank and Standard Chartered bank. Every time I passed by the place, I saw the name Kapitan, but when getting closer for a look, the name is actually KOPITAN, it’s KOPI, not KAPI, which everyone always mistaken for it. Haha.

    P1070027

First up, mom ordered a Mixed Fruit Salad (RM4.80) and it’s kinda cool. Basically it’s a bowl of mixed fruit, like apple, orange, mini tomato and raisin. Then it’s mixed with the thousand island salad sauce, become a healthy appetizer.

    P1070030

Mom ordered a light meal for her. It’s a Pineapple Cheese Toast (RM6.50). One thing I’ve forgotten to mention is that their menu are something like those Old Town style, but somehow the price is cheaper and have different style of toast. I can feel the little pineapple cutlet and the cheese. It melts onto the toast. The best part is that the bread is very soft and good.

    P1070029

Here’s my lunch at Kopitan Restaurant which is a Kam Heong Chicken Chop Rice (RM8.90). It looks pretty good and taste good too. Just ignore the soup as it’s just normal soup that’s nothing special. The crispy chicken chop poured with Kam Heong sauce which tasted sweet and spicy. Love the onion and love the sauce and chicken! Somehow if there’s more sauce to be eat with the rice, then it will be better.

  • Famous Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball at Jonker Walk

Famous Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball at Jonker Walk

Now I want to talk about one of the super famous chicken rice ball in Malacca’s Jonker Walk which is the Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball.

It’s actually located near the head of the Jonker Walk on the row of heritage shop. There’s two famous one, one is Chung Wah and another is this Hoe Kee. I always see so many people queing for these two but I went in this Hoe Kee because of the cleaness and the nice look.

As usual, we queued up outside the restaurant and the lady came and take order for us first, once there’s a table, we can go in. I ordered a standard set with an extra cabbage vegetable.

Here’s the rice balls came and indeed is better than the previous one and taste good too. The black sauce is actually thick black soy sauce that they put on the table. Quite nice eating with the sauce.

Then the cabbage is just normal cabbage, nothing special. Just something added into our meal.

As for the chicken, you can see it’s not welly presented, simply placed on the the plate. Kinda dissappointed with the look but it’s still nice though. =) Unfortunately, this is a rather expensive place, one set of these cost us almost RM12. That’s pretty expensive for chicken rice.

Check out the Chung Wah, a long queue. Internet reviews say that the chicken at there is not nice. When I see the queue, I don’t even feel like joining in under the hot sun, what do you think?
