Muar: Thirst Quenching Pear Juice @ Jalan Yahya

Muar: Thirst Quenching Pear Juice @ Jalan Yahya – I bet many of you haven’t heard of Pear Juice before. I knew about pear – the fruit, but then juicing it into a beverage, I’ve never heard it before nor try it. In Muar, there’s one stall that sells pear juice, located on Jalan Yahya right in front of a fruit stall. It’s recommended by one of my Muar friend that it’s a must-try in Muar.

So I followed my GPS and went to look for it but FAILED to locate it for the first time, I didn’t want to give up and went to find again, and found it right front of a fruit stall. It’s a very very small stall, that why I missed it at first. At only RM1 per pack for take-away, it’s enough to quench the thirst of me and Clarice after exploring food at Tam Jiak Kheh for whole afternoon under the hot sun. Check it out!

  • Ahmad Tea & Vintage Teas – My New Companion

Ahmad Tea & Vintage Teas – My New Companion

Ahmad Tea & Vintage Teas – My New Companion – Coffee is nice, but does not feel comfortable in me some times. My new thing in my life is – drink tea. Just recently, I started to drink tea and Lifehacker has a good write up on guide to tea. Basically I drink tea is just for fun, for leisure, rejuvenate, replenish and healthy!

Not forget to mention, it’s tasty too! I’ve read on the Internet, only now I know that tea is good for health. Tea that I am talking about is Green Tea & Black Tea. I am not sure about Chinese tea like Pu Er, Long Jing, Tie Kuanyin and other. My starter would be Green Tea and Black Tea. Green Tea has got a lot of good comment about it.

    1. Tea contains antioxidants. Like the Rust-Oleum paint that keeps your outdoor furniture from rusting, tea’s antioxidants protect your body from the ravages of aging and the effects of pollution.

    2. Tea has less caffeine than coffee. Coffee usually has two to three times the caffeine of tea (unless you’re a fan of Morning Thunder, which combines caffeine with mate, an herb that acts like caffeine in our body). An eight-ounce cup of coffee contains around 135 mg caffeine; tea contains only 30 to 40 mg per cup. If drinking coffee gives you the jitters, causes indigestion or headaches or interferes with sleep — switch to tea.

    3. Tea may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Unwanted blood clots formed from cholesterol and blood platelets cause heart attack and stroke. Drinking tea may help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free, the same way a drain keeps your bathroom pipes clear. A 5.6-year study from the Netherlands found a 70 percent lower risk of fatal heart attack in people who drank at least two to three cups of black tea daily compared to non-tea drinkers.

    4. Tea protects your bones. It’s not just the milk added to tea that builds strong bones. One study that compared tea drinkers with non-drinkers, found that people who drank tea for 10 or more years had the strongest bones, even after adjusting for age, body weight, exercise, smoking and other risk factors. The authors suggest that this may be the work of tea’s many beneficial phytochemicals.

    5. Tea gives you a sweet smile. One look at the grimy grin of Austin Powers and you may not think drinking tea is good for your teeth, but think again. It’s the sugar added to it that’s likely to blame for England’s bad dental record. Tea itself actually contains fluoride and tannins that may keep plaque at bay. So add unsweetened tea drinking to your daily dental routine of brushing and flossing for healthier teeth and gums.

    6. Tea bolsters your immune defenses. Drinking tea may help your body’s immune system fight off infection. When 21 volunteers drank either five cups of tea or coffee each day for four weeks, researchers saw higher immune system activity in the blood of the tea drinkers.

    7. Tea protects against cancer. Thank the polyphenols, the antioxidants found in tea, once again for their cancer-fighting effects. While the overall research is inconclusive, there are enough studies that show the potential protective effects of drinking tea to make adding tea to your list of daily beverages.

    8. Tea helps keep you hydrated. Caffeinated beverages, including tea, used to be on the list of beverages thatdidn’t contribute to our daily fluid needs. Since caffeine is a diuretic and makes us pee more, the thought was that caffeinated beverages couldn’t contribute to our overall fluid requirement. However, recent research has shown that the caffeine really doesn’t matter — tea and other caffeinated beverages definitely contribute to our fluid needs. The only time the caffeine becomes a problem as far as fluid is concerned is when you drink more than five or six cups of a caffeinated beverage at one time.

    9. Tea is calorie-free. Tea doesn’t have any calories, unless you add sweetener or milk. Consuming even 250 fewer calories per day can result in losing one pound per week. If you’re looking for a satisfying, calorie-free beverage, tea is a top choice.

    10. Tea increases your metabolism. Lots of people complain about a slow metabolic rate and their inability to lose weight. Green tea has been shown to actually increase metabolic rate so that you can burn 70 to 80 additional calories by drinking just five cups of green tea per day. Over a year’s time you could lose eight pounds just by drinking green tea. Of course, taking a 15-minute walk every day will also burn calories. [From here]

I went to the supermarket and look for tea bags as I do not have tea pot or mug. There’s so many tea bags on the shelves which makes me confuse about which to get. I ended up with Ahmad Tea and Vintage Teas as they have a better looking packaging. Sorry for not going for local’s Boh. I don’t know why. Gonna try up this two Ahmad Tea Original Green Tea and Vintage Teas Black Tea Peach first only then I look for others.

    Any recommendation?

  • My New Starbucks Bottle

    My New Starbucks Bottle

My New Starbucks Bottle – Recently, I have started to drink tea, Green Tea is my favourite at the moment and I find it very healthy and taste good. To allow me to bring some tea around, I bought a Starbucks bottle as I know it can withstand high temperature. My tea is just tea bag, so it’s OK to put into it. Picked the tall size and it costs me RM38 for it.

The design not bad right? Love my Starbucks bottle now and I just get to know that when you buy beverage from Starbucks with the bottle, you will get RM2 off, pretty cool.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner – It was the night before London Olympic 2012 Opening Ceremony, a few friends gathered around at Presgrave Street or more likely known as Sar Tiao Lor (3rd Road) for local to eat a hot bowl of Hokkien Prawn Noodle with Roasted Pork (Siu Yok/Sio Bak) and icy ice kacang with ice cream topping.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

It’d been a while that I’ve visited this Hokkien Mee stall in Penang. It’s one of my favourite place for Hokkien Prawn Mee, especially for the top up of roasted pork (sio bak/siu yok). The soup has a strong aroma of shrimp essense and I like it with springy instant noodle. Personally, just put a little bit of chili paste will do, too much will ruin the taste of the soup. It costed me RM4.50, reasonable.

888 Hokkien Mee @ Lebuh Presgrave Dinner

An addition bowl of icy ice kacang with vanila ice cream topping complements to the delicious bowl of hokkien mee. I’ve forgotten about the price, roughly RM2+. Very cheap only.

After dinner, we went to CC’s house for KTV until midnight, then went to supper and cyber cafe for 2 round of DoTA (very noob and I don’t really play), then went back to CC’s house for Olympic’s Opening Ceremony. Sorry that I’ve got to say, it was not awesome, except for Mr Bean’s part.

  • Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall – It’s post about Paradigm Mall again, I am not promoting, just can’t help myself from sharing with you guys of what I have tried at the mall. Here’s another F&B outlet I went in Paradigm Mall – Ochado Signature bubble tea cafe. I believe many of you have heard about Ochado. =D

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Last time, I was a Taiwanese bubble fan, but now, I don’t really drink a lot because it’s fattening, but then I still drink occasionally. There’s many bubble tea outlet in Paradigm Mall, like Each A Cup, Chatime, Meet Fresh, and more I think. But then this Ochado Signature is the most appealing to me with a nice, simple and clean cafe design, which is a good place to chit chat with friends.

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

I visited the cafe on the first day went to Paradigm Mall with Arron and Carmen, we wanted a place to sit down and talk and found this. I am not really familiar with Ochado’s beverage, I am more to Chatime and Gongcha. After looking at the menu, I ordered myself a Ochado Pop Egg Milk Tea.

Ochado Signature Bubble Tea @ Paradigm Mall

Pop Egg is a pearl replacement in the milk tea and it pops once it’s in your mouth, kinda like caviar, but cheap version. It pops out a sweet taste. Well, it’s fun popping in your mouth but then I prefer bubble pearl which allows me to chew. Pop egg is too fast and has no sensation in the mouth. By the way, it costs RM5.90 for the regular cup of Pop Egg Milk Tea.

Another Taiwanese Milk Tea - Mocato Tea @ SS15, Subang Jaya

Another Taiwanese Milk Tea – Mocato Tea @ SS15, Subang Jaya – SS15, Subang Jaya is getting to become a mini-Taiwan franchise neighbourhood with so many Taiwanese food, beverage and desserts shop popping up at there like Chatime, Snowflakes, Coco, Par Tea Time, HOTSTAR XXXL Chicken, and this one Mocato Tea, which is created by founder of Jogoya Japanese Buffet.

Another Taiwanese Milk Tea - Mocato Tea @ SS15, Subang Jaya

My Penang friend, Yiphing and Chien Chern came to dinner with me and after dinner we didn’t know where to go, randomly suggested SS15. At SS15, we randomly came to Mocato Tea because it’s something new that we haven’t try before. It’s quieter there, and the interior ambience is kinda cool too! They have Unifi hotspot somemore for high speed Internet.

Actually nowadays bubble tea feels all the same to me, Gong Cha, Chatime, Sharetea and so many more. It’s just for the fun of drinking it and spending time at a different environment. I ordered myself a Black Jelly Milk Tea (RM5.90 regular cup) and it’s actually standard milk tea with a kind of stripe chewy black jelly. Very springy, very Q, but I prefer pearl more.

Cool Cafe – +Wondermilk, Damansara Uptown – +Wondermilk Cafe is a very cool cafe located in Damasara Uptown. Why I mentioned it’s cool is because of the interior decorations which is very artsy and beautiful, so does the food choice. The cafe is decorated with many artsy stuff like decal, photoframe, typography, warm lighting and has nice cafe music playing along.

I went there with my dear, Hueisean for a little afternoon tea. +Wondermilk Cafe is famous for cupcakes and sandwiches. Since we were not really hungry, we just ordered one piece of cupcakes and a beverage. This is also to save cost because cupcakes are expensive. Haha.

As for the beverage, I ordered a Minty Lime Chiller (RM8.90) which is lime + soda + mint leaves which is very refreshing and quenching. It’s kinda expensive, I can make the same thing at home. Haha.

  • Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice

Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice

Lunch At Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice – One of my favourite Hainanese chicken rice stall in Penang is this Wen Chang Chicken Rice that’s located in the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town on Cintra Street. It had over decade of history and it serves authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice. Wen Chang is actually a district in Hainan, China. The owner of the restaurant is also a Hainanese.

Dad and I always dine at there during lunch time. Wen Chang Chicken Rice is also very famous as it has won before in a chicken rice competition. What I like about Wen Chang is the rice and the white steam chicken which is so tender and smooth.

One thing that must not be missed at the Wen Chang Chicken Rice is the Hainanese Kopi-Peng (Ice Coffee) which has a good blend of condensed milk and local coffee powder.

You can try out the chicken feet with mushroom in soy sauce too which I think it’s pretty good. But for the Loh Bak, it’s not crunchy enough. Every set of chicken rice comes with a bowl of soup. You can pick between white steamed chicken or roasted chicken.

On Penang Road, at the famous Line Clear 24-hours Nasi Kandar stall, there’s a nice fresh milk stall. It sells from morning until the night and specialized in – fresh milk.

There’s a few variety of fresh milks you can choose from his menu. Pure hot fresh milk, fresh milk milo, or fresh milk with egg. I’ve tried the pure hot fresh milk which cost RM1.50 for big glass. The fresh milk tasted hot and sweet. It’s good. You should try it out if you are a milk lover.

Bangkok Trip: Cool Retro Coffee Stall @ Chatuchak Market (Day 2) – One of the cool thing I found at Chatuchak Weekend Market is these retro style & cool coffee stall. The coffee stall is very retro-ish with the use of old manual coffee machine and equipment.

I feel it’s very cool. The Thai barista =D first will grind the coffee bean manually into coffee powder. Then the coffee powder will be cook until certain degree. Only then it’s ready to mix with hot boiling water as well as condensed milk. One cup of this costs only 40Baht with ice and 30Baht for hot beverage. Awesome! It’s so much better than Chatime and Starbucks Coffee!

    I want more!
