  • A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

A Short Afternoon Walk On Armenian Street

    Dark dark sky.

After karaoke for RM1 at Red Box with dearest Hueisean, we went to watch Rapunzel at Prangin Mall, then we were out of the mall. I didn’t want to go back home, so I drove to Armenian Street to take a walk. Actually, my intention was just to check out where is the many-people-talkabout’s Amelie’s Cafe is located at.

Old hair cut. The lady owner don’t allow me to take photos. Ish.

    Dearest Huei Sean. =D

Don’t you think the pre-war building are pretty?

Armenian Street is a short street full with pre-war buildings and very heritage looking. The well-known symbol to me are the Chinese temple and Edelwiss Swiss Restaurant.

    Lodging House. Hotel? Haha.

Lovely red. =) Original beaded shoes.

Only until recently, I read many blogs and found out the existing of Amelie’s Cafe. A very little cafe on the shophouses and with a very vintage and heritage design. Really like it.

I just passed by the place, and walked for a while because it was drizzling and I had my lunch not long ago only.

Nice camera man. I want all of these!

Then I visited an antique museum shop. Inside has many antiques from the olden days and I felt they are pretty cool.

There’s a French woman chatting out there and selling fruit juices and have some French croissant for sale. Unfortunately, I was not hungry. So I just took a walk in there, after that we hopped into our car and it started to rain heavily.

    Beautiful trishaw.

    Home we went.

  • Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

Straits Quay, Penang’s Latest Seafront Hangout PLace

When I was back to Penang few weeks ago, I rushed to check out Straits Quay at Sri Tanjung Pinang, a reclaimed land somewhere between Tanjung Bungah and Tanjung Tokong, it’s a new area on the island and it’s the latest seafront hangout place in Penang. Yo. A combination of residences and commercial place, this place is cool and I am so proud of being a Penangite.

The place is very nice, by the sea and it’s a little mall with seafront promenade, having cafe, bistro, restaurants and some shoplots. Unfortunately, not all the shops are opened, it’s only part of it which make it kinda quiet at the moment.

And the best part is the seafront view. There’s one place where you can overlook the Gurney Drive and the coastal of Penang, and it looks a bit like Victoria Harbour or Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong just that we don’t have high skyscrapers and beautiful expensive light shows.

Although there’s nothing much there, crowds started flowing in slowly. There’s a fireworks display and Christmas countdown celebration at here too.

Still looking forward to more shops opening at there and some great development of Penang island. Yo.

  • Buffet Breakfast at PJ Hilton Hotel

Buffet Breakfast at PJ Hilton Hotel

I love buffet breakfast provided by hotel most of the time especially at a hotel with good reputation and stars like the Hilton Hotel at Petaling Jaya. A couple weeks ago, I was staying there for a night with my parents and we were given free buffet breakfast. Since it’s free, for sure I would wake up early to check it out. I heard that these buffet breakfast can cost up to RM50.

With a variety of International cuisine ranging from Chinese, Western, Indian to local Malaysian food. They are good, but, I felt they were not the best hotel breakfast to me. I still like the one at Sensa Hotel, Bandung, Indonesia which have a better dining experience and food.

Do you bother about the hotel breakfast or just oversleep for you trip? =)

  • Crepe Cake at Indulge Cafe, Kuchai Lama

Crepe Cake at Indulge Cafe, Kuchai Lama

I didn’t really know about this place and if you ask me where is it right now, I still couldn’t tell you where is it but I have a business card here. The cafe is located in Kuchai Lama, KL and the name is Indulge Cafe. So how I went there was basically the guide of the GPS. Haha.

So last week, I went to this Indulge Cafe just to try a crepe cake, introduced by my friend Wanyi. I don’t really know what’s a crepe cake, it’s like layering cake and it’s cold and best of all it’s yummy! Wonderful homemade crepe cake. We ordered a big cake of it for Nita’s birthday and she was happy and everyone was happy too! I like it.

They do serve western food other than desserts.

  • Hup Kee BBQ Roasted Char Siew Pork Restaurant at Bandar Sunway

Hup Kee BBQ Roasted Char Siew Pork Restaurant at Bandar Sunway

First of all, I finally found a roasted pork ala char siu (penang hokkien:char sio) ala siu yok (penang hokkien:sio bak) restaurant in Bandar Sunway and that is Hup Kee BBQ Restaurant near to Mentari Court. I was looking for nice char siu and siu yok in KL and PJ for quite some times after I came here to study. I kinda miss it because my campus is selling all the halal food and I’ve tried a few out there at the coffee shop but they are not very good yet.

The place is kinda nice, not like typical chicken rice roasted pork kopitiam. They sell roasted pork, char siu, siu yok, chinese sausage, roasted chicken and roasted duck, serves with chicken rice or noodle, dry or soup. The best part of it is that they have noodle, just like eating the wan tan mee but with chicken or pork. As for the pricing, it’s typical KL price which starts from RM5 and then differ with the combination of meat. One can reach as much as RM9 with 3 combination. However, I don’t want to say it’s the best, but it’s a lot a lot better than other chicken rice roasted pork shop at there.

One more thing, it’s opens from morning until afternoon. It’s a good lunch place.

If you ask me where in my mind is the best, I’ll say Sin Lam Huat Roasted Pork Chicken Rice in Penang. =D

  • Lunch at Sushi Zanmai, Sunway Pyramid

Lunch at Sushi Zanmai, Sunway Pyramid

I don’t really understand why there’s a long queue every time I passed by Sushi Zanmai outlet in KL like at The Gardens and 1Utama. It was a Tuesday and I went to the Sushi Zanmai at Sunway Pyramid for a lunch. This Sushi Zanmai is just another Japanese restaurant with sushi belt like Sakae Sushi and Sushi King but then it’s not available in Penang. My friend told me that their food is low in price but to me it’s just almost the same except the salmon sushi is kinda cheap. =D

After all those wondering and don’t-understands, I finally made myself there to know why. Actually there’s no why. LOL. It’s just felt better than Sushi King and cheaper than Sakae Sushi IMO.

A plate of Salmon Sushi is priced at only RM3.90 of two but then I never see it on the belt and we have to order from the people there.

A nice big slice of fresh raw salmon covered a rice ball. The freshness cannot be said as super fresh but it’s fresh in my mouth, I felt. Some Japanese restaurant served salmon with smaller size. This is good.

My main dish was a I-ve-forgotten-the-name, Chicken Katsu something, it’s deep fried chicken with mayo sauce, a little bit of seaweed strips and Japanese rice. To be honest, it’s not really a good one as the chicken is kinda tasteless. I ate it with wasabi and soy sauce. This is only a small one, I wondered how big is it if I order a big one.

Here’s another I-ve-forgotten-the-name sushi, I know it’s Unagi something something. Haha. It’s a nice unagi sushi and it’s a must-order if you are a unagi lover like me! =)

    Sushi Zanmai is available at:

    • Sunway Pyramid
    • 1 Utama
    • The Gardens
    • Low Yat Plaza
    • Fahrenheit 88
  • Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice in Penang Pulau Tikus

Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice in Penang Pulau Tikus

Kampar is a little town in Perak and it’s famous for UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) but I never know what food they are famous of. Haha. Recently, I went to a coffee house at Pulau Tikus, near to the market there and found out a Claypot Chicken Rice from Kampar. It’s featured on the Chinese newspaper according to mom and I ordered a set for 2 for lunch.

It came in a big pot. A nice egg is placed on top of the rice and it’s cooked with the heat from the very hot claypot rice. We have to mix it with the rice before taking out to eat. Well, it’s not a bad one but with extra lap cheong (Chinese sausage) then I think it would be nice.

Do go and check it out if you are a claypot chicken rice fan. =)

  • Nice 滑蛋河 Wat Tan Hor In Penang for Dinner

Nice 滑蛋河 Wat Tan Hor In Penang for Dinner

滑蛋河 also pronounced as Wat Tan Hor in Cantonese, mostly known to KL people and here in Penang they called it Char Hor Fun with waterish egg sauce. Some like hor fun in dry state, some like it wet a bit, some like it with extra egg and waterish. I like the one with extra egg and waterish and it’s yummy! I always eat this dish when I am in KL.

    P1030296

Recently, I found a place that sells nice Wat Tan Hor in Penang and that is somewhere on Cintra Street, at the intersection of Kampung Malabar in town.

    P1030297

    P1030293

Located on a corner unit of a row of shop houses on Cintra Street. They sell not only Wat Tan Hor but various fried hor fun and bee hoon.

    P1030295

If to compare with what I had before in KL, KL still have a better one but this could be one of the best in Penang already. =) What do you think?

  • Sushi Zanmai and Crepe Cake for Nita’s Belated Birthday

Sushi Zanmai and Crepe Cake for Nita’s Belated Birthday

This week’s Tuesday is the end of final exam. Haha. Design course not really don’t have exam but for this sem, I have two papers to test and that’s Technical English and Building Materials. So it’s just two days of final exams. Finally it’s over but my juniors are doing their SPM, hopefully they are doing well right now.

So on Tuersday, after exam. Nita, my Indonesian classmate invited us for Japanese food at Sushi Zanmai. Oh yeah, finally have a chance to visit the always long-queue Sushi Zanmai. I have no idea why I always see a long queue outside Sushi Zanmai. Why?

It was actually a belated birthday celebration for Nita because on the actual date which was two weeks ago, we were busy with assignment so we didn’t celebrate and so it’s postponed. Still fun!

Somehow, I take it as belated birthday celebration plus a little bit of farewell because this week could be my last week at here because I have 1.5 months holiday ahead! =) And also, 3 friends, Connie, Zhi Inn and Lai Quen are going to change to degree because Taylor’s just recently introduced the degree of BA Interior Architecture but then I couldn’t change because my qualification is only SPM.

Not finish yet. After Sushi Zanmai, we decided to treat back Nita a birthday cake and we went to Kuchai Lama. I have no idea where Kuchai Lama is and GPS was my guide. Haha. I know it’s somewhere near Old Klang Rd if I am not mistaken.

Go Kuchai Lama, Indulge Cafe just to eat a crepe cake. Haha. Happy 17 birthday Nita, belated!

No, don’t think what you are thinking because you maybe wrong. OK, to be honest with you, it WAS mine but it ISN’T mine now. Although it’s sexy but I just don’t like it. Not geeky and pro enough.
