Kampar: UTAR Grand Hall Has A Cool Chinese Architecture

Kampar: UTAR Grand Hall Has A Cool Chinese Architecture – Visited UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) at Kampar a week ago and found out that there’s a cool building in the campus – the Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik Grand Hall. It has a super duper Chinese-orientated architecture design like those Chinese temple roof, red bricks, water features which makes you feel as if you are in China, minus the cold.

The grand hall that looks like a Chinese temple from far. LOL, that’s why most UTAR friends told me.
The street lamp, beautiful Chinese pattern.
    Love red bricks a lot.
A bit of contemporary design here at the lobby.
Semi-circular rounder arch entrance to the hall.

This is something different and awesome when comparing to my school – Taylor’s University which has a modern minimalist design.

Check out the water features too. Must be something to do with feng shui, I guess.
    Chinese words on the water.
    Chinese word as sculpture.
There’s fishes in case you don’t know.

UTAR, a very famous university among the Chinese-educated group of people, and founded by the MCA (=.=), guess this explains the very-ching-chong-Chinese design of this building. Anyway, I kinda like things like this, at least it stand outs among the many universities in Malaysia. Which campus has special architecture design? Do share with me, down below. =D

  • Sunset: Singapore City

    Sunset: Singapore City

Sunset: Singapore City – Travelled light and did not bit any big camera with me, the Panasonic Lumix LX5 is still bulky to fit into my jeans pocket so I only had a Samsung Galaxy S2 with me when I was in Singapore. So yeah, I found out that from Marina Bay Sands Boardwalk, you can get a little view of sun setting into the skyline of Singapore City. So yeah, again, the effect is kinda cool, when there’s blue sky and nice twilight.

Singapore: DBS Sailing By Marina Bay & Eason Chen’s DUO Concert

Space ship hotel and casino – Marina Bay Sands.

Singapore: DBS Sailing By Marina Bay & Eason Chen’s DUO Concert – Two weeks ago, I went to Singapore to check out…….. the Eason Chen’s DUO Concert! It’s the second time Eason Chen had the DUO Concert in Singapore, DUO Concert have been running for two years already, I guess Eason still haven’t earn enough $$ from it. O.o

    The sail with DBS logo.

    Brother and his lovely girlfriend.
    Brotherhood! =D

So Singapore, I came again! Something special for me this time because I went on on a sail ride on the water of Marina Bay! It’s fun because not many get a chance to sail on the bay and really need to thanks my brother’s girlfriend who is an employee for DBS Bank. It’s a special sailing event for DBS staffs and their family and friends only, so here we were on the sail. It was pretty windy that evening, so the sailing was pretty fast and fun.

    Ticket collection.
    Storm coming!
    Me… Haha.
    Waiting for Eason.

Unfortunately, storm came and we had to go back on shore quickly. We could heard Eason doing his rehearsal by the bay! Free songs before the concert started. Storm came and thunder rumblings around the sky of Singapore, heavy raining of cats and dogs from the heaven, it postponed the concert. Sucks. It’s a rain or shine event, located right outside of Marina Bay Sands, the stage overlooks the Singapore city but my free standing area was not favouring. Sucks again.

    Woooo, Ahhhh, Yooo, EASOOONN.

Rain or shine, it supposed to start at 8pm, but no idea what the event organizer was doing and delayed till 9++pm, queued an hour of it and that’s really bad. Eason came and started singing, some funny interaction between him and us, but then I saw the crowds at there were like not really high at all, feel sad for them lo. I heard that many of the people who came got free tickets from the casino as a reward, I wonder do they know who is Eason Chen or not. LOL.

After all, it was just OK-good concert to me, not because of the rain, but the crowds and the standing location, not forget to mention the event organizer too, lousy. Forget about it, I met Eason, and I sailed on the Marina Bay, the trip was good.

    ………………………………….So, yeah.

Hong Kong: Street Photography – Causeway Bay – Picture speaks a thousand words. Throwing up a lot photos taken during my trip to Hong Kong last December at Causeway Bay, the vibrant and happenings shopping district. =) I love Hong Kong, I love big city.

  • Hong Kong: Big Buddha, Toufu Fa, Lantau Island

Hong Kong: Big Buddha, Toufu Fa, Lantau Island

Hong Kong: Big Buddha, Toufu Fa, Lantau Island – One of the cool place to visit in Hong Kong is Lantau Island where the Big Buddha statue is. It’s not only just visiting the statue, you can get some nice moment off from the vibrant busy city life of Hong Kong.

You can take the MTR to Tung Chung Station, then do some shopping at Citygate Outlet, then you can pick to use the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car or go up by bus. It was a super long queue at the cable car station and we bought a package of going there by bus and coming back by cable car. It’s cheaper and faster too.

We did some shopping at Citygate, there’s many brands at there, selling at a discounted price. Then we took the bus to go see the Big Buddha statue. It took us about 20 minutes ride to there. It was nice to look at the scenery around.

Big Buddha is situated on top of a hill, it’s huge and very beautiful. One must not miss is the 山水豆腐花 Toufu Fa, the beancurd toufu far is so smooth and mouth-watering. It’s a bit different with ours as it has ginger in it.

After touring around Po Lin Monastery (official name), we went back down through the cable car. Aduhainya, we queued 40 minutes for the cable car!

Fun, but won’t visit the Buddha again, maybe next time can go there for hiking!

  • Hong Kong: Apple Store, Central 中环苹果店

Hong Kong: Apple Store, Central 中环苹果店

Hong Kong: Apple Store, Central 中环苹果店 – Let’s fly to Hong Kong today and check out the Apple Store located at Central area of Hong Kong Island. I’ve been to one at Nanjing Lu and another one at Pudong, Shanghai, both of them are very cool.

Actually, most of the Apple Store around the world looks the same, they have the same interior layout, the famous glass spiral stairs, and what’s difference is the language and visitors. It’s Hong Kong and it’s Chinese all around. Same as the two stores in Shanghai, this one in Hong Kong was very crowded too!

I feel that Apple Store is one of the attractions in Hong Kong as there’s not much Apple Store located in Asia.

I went there for the very first time last week for dinner and to check out that place as I’ve heard friends telling me that the place is cool. Yes, indeed it is.

First Time Visit To Kampar & UTAR – Little Town Of Perak

First Time Visit To Kampar & UTAR - Little Town Of Perak

First Time Visit To Kampar – Little Town Of Perak – I went to Kampar, Perak yesterday! Kampar is a little town in Perak, far away from the big city but famous among Malaysian students as there locates a few higher institution – UTAR & KTAR. I have many friends who are studying at there but I’ve not been there before. I went to there with my girlfriend to check out some hostel room as she’s moving there to study.

First Time Visit To Kampar & UTAR - Little Town Of Perak

First Time Visit To Kampar & UTAR - Little Town Of Perak

It’s about 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur and the place is kinda rural. The first place I came across is the little town of Tapah before reaching Kampar. Kampar is very peaceful, there’s many hill and lake, and a lot of residential terrace houses which serve as student accommodation.

Nothing much, you can see coffee shops, rows of shoplots, cyber cafes, a tall hotel – Grand Kampar Hotel, Tesco, railway track and that’s all I guess. Haven’t explore much yet. UTAR is cool, the campus itself is big and has a modern squarish design. Unfortunately, the landscape doesn’t seems being maintained well. But afterall, it seems to be a good designed campus, just located at a wrong location. It should be something close to the city in my opinion.

First Time Visit To Kampar & UTAR - Little Town Of Perak

The student accommodation is one special thing. Each row of terrace houses is named according top institution in the world like Harvard, Cambridge, Imperial and so on. And don’t be surprise that there’s 20 student living under one roof. That’s so, dense! And bicycles are everywhere.

Met some high school friends there, tour a bit of the campus and went back home. Will be visiting there again, perhaps explore some cool spot. I have found a nice sunset shooting spot at there, will be back with a tripod and a proper camera! =)

  • Hong Kong: Old-School Bing Sutt Starbucks Coffee @ Central

Hong Kong: Old-School Bing Sutt Starbucks Coffee @ Central

Hong Kong: Old School Starbucks Coffee @ Central – One of the coolest place in Hong Kong to me is the old-school style designed Starbucks Coffee outlet located at Central area. I went there last year, and it was in one of my visiting list. What’s so special about this Starbucks Coffee outlet is the old-school Hong Kong coffee house design which local called it 冰室 (Bing Sutt).

Hong Kong: Old-School Bing Sutt Starbucks Coffee @ Central

Hong Kong: Old-School Bing Sutt Starbucks Coffee @ Central

This is a good blend of western coffee in to local Hong Kong culture. Although, the original Bing Sutt (Hong Kong’s kopitiam) design was not so dim, yet it brings out a warm, relaxing and mysterious feeling in the cafe.

It was full of people. It’s an attraction in my opinion and it has a unique Starbucks Coffee design. Mom went to shopping around Central area and me, dad and brother were enjoying a hot brew of coffee here.

  • Hong Kong: Awesome Night View From The Peak

Hong Kong, View From The Peak

Hong Kong: Awesome Night View From The Peak – Something that I’ve stopped posting for quite some times and that’s my trip to China – Hong Kong last year. Suddenly remembered that I still have quite many thing about my travel to China to share, so I quickly sit in front of my computer and start looking for photos before I forget about it.

Hong Kong, View From The Peak

One of the nice experience in Hong Kong was heading to The Peak at night to check out the Hong Kong night view. I tell you, queuing up for the tram at night is a disaster, it could take you more than an hour for it as it’s a long queue, everyday! You can take the bus, if you know how to, or like us, we took the haggling cab waiting by the roadside. The cab charges 4 of us for HK$40 which I think pretty reasonable after some negotiation, as it brings us all the way up, and cutting all the long queue.

Hong Kong, View From The Peak

Hong Kong, View From The Peak

The temperature up there was superb, chilly, windy, cold. It’s very happenings up there, lots of people were taking photos of the spectacular view of Hong Kong from top. It’s just so awesome. At 8pm every night, there’s the light show, it’s weird that you see the light but you can’t hear any music like you can hear at the Avenue Of Star. Nevertheless, it’s worth to visit The Peak at night. I’ve been there in the morning before.
