Klang Valley: Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf

Klang Valley: Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf – The pork crave still haven’t ends in me yet since the last pork meal at S.Wine, it’s not the craving for siu yok or cha siu, it’s Western version of pork dish and I want more! Last weekend, I went to this pork shop – Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf at Bangsar Village Mall (what a long name?!). Very easy to spot as it’s located just by the car park.
I was there for a late birthday lunch with Clarice, it’s almost 3pm already, but the restaurant was really packed with people, mostly ladies! I wonder where are the guys? Almost tea time and the people just never stop walking in from the front door.
Since it’s just two of us, we got a table pretty quickly. Without much hesitation, my order went to the two famous dishes The Wolf’s Favourite (RM27+) and also the Mighty Pork Burger (RM24+). Serving was pretty fast, surprisingly for that much people in the restaurant.
The Wolf’s Favourite is their signature pasta which basically is carbonara enhanced with smoky pork and mushrooms, further topped up with a beautiful poached egg. It’s fragrance is good, the pork feels like bak gua to me and the combination of poached egg creates a unique carbonara experience, without the cream. It’s a little bit salty on my taste buds, but undeniably, still OK-good.
If were to choose between the two dishes, my choice went to the Mighty Pork Burger which has a thick juicy pork patty which I still can imagine biting a mouth of it right now. Egg was just a compliment to the burger which I find it like McBreakfast egg, but still, I like the tender pork patty. Will come back again for some other pork dish!

  • Klang Valley: S.Wine Cafe @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas

Klang Valley: S.Wine Cafe @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas

Klang Valley: S.Wine Cafe @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas – Oh pork, recently I am addicted to pork and found this nice pork restaurant at Publika, Solaris Dutamas. To be exact, it’s located in the grocery – Ben’s Independent Grocers (B.I.G.). I actually went there once but failed to eat because we were late and ended up with Namoo On The Park. Lesson learned, and I was there earlier than before!
When you go to grocery shopping in Malaysia, normally the pork section is separated from the rest because it’s Non-Halal. Well, the S.Wine Cafe is located at the Non-Halal section and also right beside the alcohol section of B.I.G. Pretty interesting.
Pork is the main thing there and so all the dishes were all about pork. We’ve got pork chop, pork meatball, and pork sausage wrapped with bacon. Yummeh. Food presentation and the interiors are quite nice. Taste on the other hand is heavier than Betty’s Kitchen (I prefer the gravy at Betty’s though) and what I like about is the texture of the pork, it felt nice comparing to local Chinese pork dish. Wonder what pigs do they use? Haha. Well, the price was on the high side, but given a good atmosphere and food, it justifies. S.Wine, I’m pretty much I will come back again, perhaps bring my parents for a try.
Good food and good people. Good people of the night – Siyi, Connie, Jason, me, Henry, Hooipheng and Quenna.
    Caesar sald.
    Tomato soup.
    Mini pork sausage with bacon.
    The pork chop!
Look at the oily part of the pork, I just can’t put that into my body! Sinful!

  • Klang Valley: Betty’s Midwest Kitchen

    Klang Valley: Betty’s Midwest Kitchen

Klang Valley: Betty’s Midwest Kitchen – Finally, I’ve got a chance to try this American restaurant at Aman Suria. I actually went there last year with Arron & Tee Jin, unfortunately it was closed. I’ve been hearing good review about it too! Well, finally is finally, it’s also sort of a small farewell dinner with my boss and the senior interior designer of my intern 2 weeks ago.
America On A Plate – well said. Not surprised to see the restaurant was already full with people. Found a seat and quickly made the order. There’s Dog Food, Meatloaf & Pork Chops for the 5 of us, as well as a small coleslaw as side. The restaurant is so not halal with a wall of PIGS pictures. Anyway, the dinner was just awesome and happy talking with Mr Boss and the designers. For the first time that we have a casual talk among each other out of work.
One funny thing is that the gravy of all seems to taste the same, you will feel it in the Dog Food and the Pork Chop, but after all, they are good. Well, Betty’s, I’ll come back when I have the chance! America & the food rocks.
BTW, I love America, more than the food!
Dog food! You don’t have to be a Chihuahua to eat this. Fries mixed with cheese and their special gravy. Yummeh!
Yo Obama, do you eat these always?

  • Klang Valley: Burger Junkyard, Kota Damansara

Klang Valley: Burger Junkyard, Kota Damansara

Klang Valley: Burger Junkyard, Kota Damansara – Now it makes me wonder that is it burger craze lately? There’s the Kaw Kaw Burger Bakar, Abang Burn Burger, myBurger Lab, and in Penang, Marshall’s Burger which are getting a lot of noises lately and now, another one at Kota Damansara – Burger Junkyard.
A trend or what? It’s not McDonald’s, or Burger King anymore, nor roadside Ramly burger, it’s about innovation, thick patties, varieties, sauce, fries, queue and interior design.
Talking to Burger Junkyard, it’s located at The Strand, Kota Damansara and it was my dinner yesterday night with the same group of friends who are working intern for interior design firm at there. It’s getting more meet-ups right now during work time than during school times. Fun! Because after a long day of work, a little chat and get-together and laughter with familiar faces is good.
Oh dirty rat with number for the burger delivery to your table.
The Burger Junkyard has a very simple interior design with graffiti art on the wall resembling junkyard. Looking across the menu, obviously it has lesser choices compare to myBurger Lab. There’s no long queue like myBurger Lab and don’t have a person standing there recommending good burger. I asked for recommendation and ordered the Brooklyn Burger (RM15.90) which comes with burger itself and fries. There’s no additional top up for set meal and not much choices for drinks.
Price is cheaper than myBurger Lab but how about taste? French fries is not as good as myBurger Lab as there’s no killer fried garlic. The patties was thick enough but somehow it’s not as strong and good as myBurger Lab. In my 2 cents, I still prefer myBurger Lab for the taste, the atmosphere and the price. Haha. What do you think? Some say good, some say so-so, I’d say OKOK only.

Side order French Fries. Not really killer fries. HAHA.
Pineapple Fungi (vegetarian) (RM13.90) – Pineapple, portebello mushroom, onions, homemade aioli.
Hoola Hoop Hawii (RM14.90) – Lettuce, tomatoes, smoked turkey ham, grilled pineapple, tangy cocktail, dressing.
Brooklyn Burger (RM15.90) – Choice of chicken, or beef (I picked beef), beef bacon, grilled pineapple, tomato, onions, fried egg, aioli.
Arvin, me, Quenna, Hooi Pheng, Connie, Henry. Right side looks sad, left side looks happy. HAHA.

  • Klang Valley: My Burger Lab

    Klang Valley: My Burger Lab

Klang Valley: My Burger Lab – It’s time to get burger-ism with My Burger Lab @ Seapark, PJ after trying out some nice roadside burger. This name has becoming a trend lately that more and more people are talking about it. It’s a burger cafe in Seapark where it gets very crowded as early as 6pm. Crazily, some blog wrote the queue started as early as 4.30pm and the queue will never get short until late night.
Nevertheless, I didn’t went early to be first to buy a burger, I was there at about 7.20pm and what I saw was a real long queue from inside to the outside. O.O It took me and Beng Tian about 20 minutes to get the front of the queue. Friendly staff was standing by the queue to give recommendation of their burger. Inside was overly crowded and the whole atmosphere was very happenings with mostly youngster. I checked Foursquare for tips, and many written that it’s over-rated, not worth the queue and OKOK-only lah.
Well, I ordered their signature burger A+ Set (with fries and bottomless soft drinks) @ RM15 + RM6 while my friend ordered a Curry Crunch Set too @ RM15.50 + RM6. The 6 dollar is the additional charge for set.
So we waited for a seat, sit down and wait for our name to be called. “212, Mr Nicholas, your burger is ready!”. It’s time to burger! Blacky gray charcoal bun looks added a uniqueness to the burger with deep fried fries perfecting the meal. A+ burger is filled with sharp cheddar, caramelised onion (woah!), shiitake & enoki mushrooms. The beef patty is succulent thick and a little bit of self add on mustard make it even awesome for me. Fries on the hand is nicely fried with garlic clove which is interesting.
The overall experience was good, it’s burgerlicious, price wise is on the high side and if there’s not a long queue, it would just be even better. Come back again? Yeah, when I am ready to queue again.

  • Penang: Sip & Chew Cafe

    Penang: Sip & Chew Cafe

    Front facade, super simple.

Penang: Sip & Chew Cafe – Sip & Chew Cafe is a very very new restaurant/cafe located on Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, or English – Pitt Street. I went there on Christmas Day with Clarice. How I found out about this place is through Instagram where some random people I followed posted about it.

    Here’s me and Clarice.

With much curiousity, I wandered around the street to find the place. It took me some times to find it and it’s actually located just next to the famous Kuan Yin Teng Temple. It was night time, and surprised to see the restaurant has only 4 tables inside and 2 outside. I assumed it’s a small scale cafe. Nevertheless, we went in and gave it a try despite the little customers.

The staff was very friendly which worth a little mention. Sip & Chew serves western cuisine and their famous is the sandwiches, but we didn’t order cause I wanted something bigger portion to ease my hungriness.

    Potato salad as starter. Yums.
Mushroom soup, which is pretty standard, taste like Pizza Hut’s. =D

We ordered a set of Christmas Set dinner worth of RM24.90 and a Grilled Chicken With BBQ Sauce from the a la carte menu. From starter to main course were delightful, and there’s still room for improvement like the grilled fish with brown sauce was a little bit too salty. Other than that were pretty OK, and the very best part was the Flower Pot Desserts which Clarice and I like the most.

Grilled Chicken with BBQ Sauce which I like.
Grilled fish with brown sauce which is rather salty on my taste buds.
HAPPY POTTED PLANT. Lo and behold, the mighty flower in a pot dessert! What is it? Flower it is, not edible, but the mud, the organics are edible!
Cute! It’s Oreo grinned into powder that looks like sand and at the bottom, there’s ice cream, and a layer of cake.

The owner told us that the menu will be revised again, and I am looking forward for my next visit for the Flower Pot Desserts again, perhaps try some other food too, sandwich maybe?

Heard that there’s a similar dessert at All Seasons Place, Farlim there, it’s cheese cake instead of ice cream, anyone know about it?

  • Klang Valley: Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie

Klang Valley: Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie

The exterior of Levain. Looks pretty cool.

Klang Valley: Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie – ‘Boulangerie’ means bread shop and ‘Patisserie’ means a type of French or Belgian bakery that specializes in pastries and sweets and ‘Levain’ is the name of the restaurant/cafe/bakery that located near the very busy area of Jalan Imbi/Bukit Bintang, but then it’s hidden around that area on a row of bungalow houses.

    The restaurant.
    They are famous for macaroons!

If you are from around KL, then you will know about Levain, but if you are like me from Penang. nevermind, let me bring you there now. I’ve heard some good reviews from my KL friends and finally I get to visit it during a lunch with my dear Clarice. It’s not very hard to find actually, but GPS leaded me there.

Ohhh, so many cakes! So pretty!

It looks pretty awesome inside with bakery at the entrance and sittings inside and also outside. Since it’s my first time, I don’t really know how to order, the person asked us to find a seat ourselves and that’s it. After asking again, it’s actually order your food at the counter, you can pick some pastry too, and then tell them your table number when ordering, pay it and wait your food to be served. It took me some times to do the ordering because I didn’t know what to order at first, there’s so many nice food on the menu and I want them all.

    Wahhh, OKOK-only.

So, I ordered their famous a Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio (RM12.50), a Mushroom Chicken Soup (RM6.50) and a Turkey Ham & Cheese With Rice Pizza (RM18 for Large).

I like this! Mushroom chicken soup!
    Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio. Yums.
Turkey Ham & Cheese with Rice.

Wanted to try more by stomach couldn’t take more already. I like the Mushroom Chicken Soup, it’s so creamy and the Spaghetti Seafood Aglio Olio is nice too. For the pizza, I feel so-so only, because I don’t really fancy rice on it, and not that much of meat. You maybe will like it, but not me.

    Me and Clarice.

Clarice looking happy after the meal!

Overall, it’s a nice place, and I’ll come back to try more, perhaps the fresh baked pastry.

  • Soul Kitchen Trattoria, Muntri Street

    Soul Kitchen Trattoria, Muntri Street

    Located in a little shophouse.

Soul Kitchen Trattoria, Muntri Street – Have been wanting to go to this little trattoria on Muntri Street for a long time and finally, I’ve got a chance! It was last weekend that I went there for lunch with my girlfriend. I have been hearing a lot of good comment about this little Italian restaurant too.

    Vintage style and simple interiors.

It’s not restorante, it’s trattoria. To make it simple, in Italian, it means a very casual restaurant, more like a home-cooked style dining, with a few choices in the menu, very casual, very simple. =D

    Here’s my girl. =D

There’s not much choices, it’s either, pasta, or pizza. There’s also special dish of the day, like Italian salad. During the weekdays, you can even get set lunch with soup, drinks and main course, but on the weekend, it’s all a la carte.

I don’t really know much about Italian. Somehow, the owner of the trattoria gave us recommendations and we followed. It’s one thin crust Chorizo pizza with two sides of topping (peach slices and bacon) and one … ,,, ,,, I’ve forgotten about the name. Err, there’s a bit of bacon again, garlic, thyme which tasted good.

Ok, this is me. How can she has a photo here and not me?

=) Well, suddenly I felt that I was so new to Italian. And all the while, those in the menu of Pizza Hut seems so oriental. Guess I need to learn more about the authentic Italian cuisine. The pasta tasted tasteless for the first feel bite, but after some dig into the bottom, it tasted deliciou. Pizza wise, I like the side with peace slices and cheese, bacon side was a bit sourish on my tastebuds.

Total damage of the day: RM54, with no service charge and government tax. Probably, I will come back again for some other food. The owner is friendly too.

  • Nice Brunch @ The Red Beanbag, Publika

Nice Brunch @ The Red Beanbag, Publika

Nice Breakfast @ The Red Beanbag, Publika – Publika! One of my favourite place in the city. It was one fine Sunday morning, almost noon that my family were in town and wanted to eat some cool and nice brunch as it’s pretty late. Then I thought of taking them to check out Publika, at the same time brunch at The Red Beanbag Restaurant as I’ve read that they serve breakfast set.

It was pretty crowded that Sunday morning as we waited about 15 minutes for a table. After being seated, it’s time to order and eat! I ordered myself a Big Breakfast Set (RM20) which comes with a little portion of baked bean, bacon, beef sausage, bread, hash brown and two cute poached egg. Yummy! Everything was fine, just the portion is small to me. Perhaps it’s breakfast set?
Mom and brother ordered the Egg Atlantic (RM17.90) which is a small French toast, topped with smoked salmon, snappy asparagus, mushrooms and pached eggs with a smooth hollandaise sauce. I tried it and I think I favor this more than my order.
Dad want something that has a bigger portion, something that can filled his stomach well and he has got a Fowl Luck (RM25) which is roasted chicken thigh with herbed potatoes, mushrooms, olives & mushroom gravy. Dad is more of a oriental food eater, so this kind of dish was a bit too light for him.
Afterall, it was a good brunch session and will come back another time in the future. =)

  • Nando’s Malaysia Is So Cool

Nando’s Malaysia Is So Cool – Nando’s Malaysia is so cool, they posted the above image on their Facebook page to give support to Dato Lee Chong Wei. Yeah!

Now, check out the Nando’s that I had few days ago at Gurney Plaza.

I dislike Nando’s for not having free sky juice. I’ve to pay RM3 for this little bottle. =(

Ordered Hot Peri level of quarter chicken with coleslaws and Peri-chips. I guess next time order Mild Peri then I add in the sauce myself is better. =D

    Do you like Nando’s?
