  • Very Good Mee Goreng & Coconut Shake At Bukit Mertajam

Very Good Mee Goreng & Coconut Shake At Bukit Mertajam

Food hunting in the mainland? One must not miss this Mee Goreng stall located on Jalan Kulim – Haji Mohamed Mee Kuah Ketam Tokun. The eatery stall name does indicates Mee Kuah Ketam (crab flavoured gravy fried noodle) but my heart went all in for the Mee Goreng and it did not disappoint.

Topped with sweet-spicy cuttlefish, extra potato cube, chopped lettuce and cut chilli, the malay fried noodle dish does definitely brings in a wonderful explosion of flavour in the taste buds. Comparable to the Mee Sotong at Esplanade, but a differently good.

On my next visit, I must try their OG Mee Kuah Ketam, which is their first star dish, but Mee Goreng must not be missed too. I ordered the Special variation, with extra cuttlefish and potatoes.

Another star player here at this roadside eatery is Coconut Man, pairing their coconut milkshake with pearl and fresh coconut juice together with a hot plate of Mee Goreng, these do fused into a wonderful meal combination while eating in a warm environment.

The place is not exactly near to Tokun, but it’s on the way to Tokun if you are coming from BM old town. Very easily to find, you may park your car at the Caltex petrol station just beside it.

    • Mee Goreng Special: RM6.50
    • Coconut Shake with Bubble Pearl & Nata De Coco + Coconut Juice: RM9

    Opens 9am – 6.30pm (Close on Friday)

  • Klang Valley: Nasi Lemak Cikgu, Kelana Jaya

Klang Valley: Nasi Lemak Cikgu, Kelana Jaya

Klang Valley: Nasi Lemak Cikgu, Kelana Jaya – Recently, the restaurants I went have very cute or funny name. The last one was Bird Man now and found another one – Nasi Lemak Cikgu! Cikgu means teacher in Malay and it sounds interesting. ‘Cikgu! Cikgu! Cikgu! Jangan pukul saya cikgu’. LOL.
My friend Beng Tian brought me there for dinner after work and it’s located somewhere behind Giant Kelana Jaya, the area where it sells a lot of Chinese Muslim food. As the name of the restaurant says, it only sells Nasi Lemak at there, it’s either those in a packet one or a plate of hot Nasi Lemak with side dishes like fried chicken and more. So I ordered one plate with half piece of chicken. It comes with plenty of sambal gravy which is quite tasty and not spicy. The chicken, to be surprised was really crispy and has a good aroma.

Yes, this place is consider one of the good Nasi Lemak in Klang Valley in my opinion. Price? It’s RM7.20 for that plate of Nasi Lemak with half piece of fried chicken and a hot tea, so do the math. =D I asked the person and the boss, the owner is really a ‘Cikgu’ in high school! Cool!
Next Nasi Lemak to try – Village Park, heard it’s the best? Some said Murni has better fried chicken, what do you think?

  • Klang Valley: Delicious Mali’s Corner Koay Teow Basar & Nasi Lemak

Klang Valley: Delicious Mali’s Corner Koay Teow Basar & Nasi Lemak

Klang Valley: Delicious Mali’s Corner Koay Teow Basar & Nasi Lemak – When we talk abou Char Koay Teow, we know it’s the fried flat noodle with Chinese-style soy sauce fried with cockles, eggs and beansprout, that’s the Chinese-style. How about the Malay-style? It’s almost the same, but it’s wet! Yeah, wet as in watery filled with gravy and they are delicious, believe me.

    See the queue!

I’ve heard that Char Koay Teow Wet or Koay Teow Basah (Basah means wet in Malay) originate from Bukit Mertajam, Penang. I’ve tried a nice one in BM, but in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, it seems to be a better one in my opinion!

    Queue for Nasi Lemak!
Nasi Lemak Ayam Panas, looks interesting.
Cheap also. RM4 for small, RM5 for big and Special is with extra shrimp and that’s RM6.50.

Mali’s Corner is the name of the stall located near to TARC (Tunku Abdul Rahman College) which starts business at night, there’s another one outlet with a proper shoplot setup at Platinum Walk on Jalan Genting Klang too. Surprised to see that there’s a long queue for the Char Koay Teow Basah as well as the Nasi Lemak. The queue was not really long, less than 10 minutes can get my hands on a hot plate of Char Koay Teow. However, if you want to order Nasi Lemak, you have to queue again, so I’ve my friend Wei Lee queued for the Nasi Lemak and I queued for the Char Koay Teow.

They both tasted very well to me and I like both of it! The gravy for the Koay Teow Basah is thick, and very good aroma and it has big cockles! As for the Nasi Lemak, the rice has a nice strong fragrance and the deep fried chicken is crunchy to my loving.

Got to thanks Wei Lee for introducing me this place. =) By the way, I prefer this place @ Taman Bunga Raya then Platinum Walk because this is more authentic.

  • Petaling Jaya: Otak-Otak & Nasi Lemak At Mapley 223

Petaling Jaya: Otak-Otak & Nasi Lemak At Mapley 223

Petaling Jaya: Otak-Otak & Nasi Lemak At Mapley 223 – This is a super halal post because Mapley 223 is a halal food court. Oh yeah! This place was introduced by my friend – Hock Sheng from Universiti Malaya and he told me that there’s cheap Malay-style otak-otak and also nasi lemak, so here we go!

Mapley 223 Food Court, 223 is because it’s near to Jalan 223.
Me and Hock Sheng, the friend who introduced me. The friend who sat beside me in class in high school.

Once entering the food court, don’t be shock by the stalls worker touting you asking you to eat their food. Just simply wave your hand, say no and wander to an empty table. Sit down, again, don’t be shock by the stalls worker walking towards you to ask you order their food, nasi lemak, maggi goreng, nasi goreng and more, and also the teh tarik and stuff. Don’t bother them if you know what to eat, or even don’t so that you can take some times looking around what to eat.

Yellow and green, pick the green one.
    Hot and fresh otak-otak.
Bloody red otak-otak, looks weird, but taste OK.

We sat down and then my friend say don’t bother them. Wait for a guy drop a green basket of otak-otak, only start eating it. Just don’t bother about others. They will know how to calculate how much you have it cause they knew how many they put in initially. A very different style of otak-otak, with very sweet taste, a little bit of spices, and somehow less fish meat than those Nyonya’s style. It’s a good snack at RM0.60/otak-otak.

This is the nasi lemak stall that we went for.
And it’s RM2.50 for this plate. The rice is nice.

He also told me that nasi lemak there is also good and cheap. So yeah, the fragrance of the lemak rice is indeed good, and too the spicy hot sambal just compliment the rice well. It’s just RM2.50 for this plate of nasi lemak, you can add more side dish too!

    Well, I have found a new place for snacks/supper! It’s Mapley 223.

  • Nice Nasi Kandar At Cargas Cafe, Bayan Lepas

Nice Nasi Kandar At Cargas Cafe, Bayan Lepas

Nice Nasi Kandar & Fried Chicken At Cargas Cafe, Bayan Lepas – Somewhere after the Penang International Airport, on Jalan Bayan Lepas, there is a mamak shop named Cargas Cafe which serves good Nasi Kandar. I went to try it out a few days ago during lunch time. It was so crowded with people, queuing up to take the self-service food. People of all races, Chinese, Indian, Malay were all having lunch at there.

I’ve get to know that the fried chicken at there is good, as well as brinjal eggplant and fish. As typical Nasi Kandar, I get a plate of white rice, then I pick my own dish. I’ve got myself some curry beef, a fried chicken drum stick, an boiled egg with curry sauce, eggplant and some ladies finger. It costs me RM7.50 for these, not bad price for so many dishes.

The curry sauce was good and I like the crunchy fried chicken, the aroma is very good with the spices hidden in the chicken. The beef was however a little bit hard to bite. Overall, they’re nice. It’s something different from town’s nasi kandar which has more taste of coconut milk in the curry.

  • Maryland Fried Rice and Roti Hawaii at Murni Discovery, Aman Suria

Maryland Fried Rice and Roti Hawaii at Murni Discovery, Aman Suria

The mamak look so not mamak. It’s so modern and it’s 2 levels.

After I come to KL to study, I always hear people talking about SS2 Murni, delicious, mamak and stuff. I was curious then, I thought it’s a mamak like Penang’s Abu which makes me excited because currently I am craving for Abu’s maggi goreng ayam. So one fine night, I went to check out Murni, I went to Aman Suria’s outlet instead because SS2’s was closed for renovation few months back. Thanks to Google Maps, I found the place. =D

It’s pretty excited to see there’s so many people and tables and chairs on the road were also full of people.

After checking out the menu, I felt it’s so unlike Abu, instead they have super huge variety of food, from Malay to Western to Chinese food. It’s fusionized and all halal of course. Surprised to see that the waiter who takes order uses a PDA to take order, really very high tech.

They have a wide variety of beverages too. I ordered a medium Ribena Special, which is Ribena in ice blended with nata de coco and longan. So icy chilling cool. =D

Then here’s my food. I ordered a Nasi Goreng Maryland. It’s fusion of malay fried rice and western food. There’s the fried rice, a sunny egg, french fries, prawn crackers and deep fried chicken maryland. Really big portion and please eat it when you are very hungry. RM15 for this thing. The fried rice is OK but the chicken maryland was good.

Then my girlfriend ordered a Roti Hawaii which is one of the special food in Murni. Murni is quite famous for these roti this and that stuff like roti beckham, roti jepun, roti salad and more. It’s different from normal roti canai as they stuffed the roti canai with many ingrediet like the Roti Hawaii, it has sausage, minced meat and egg. RM5.50 for this. Quite special. You should try this.

I have been to Murni for quite some times and already feel a bit bored yet I think it’s the best mamak place to me at the moment until I find a new one, though I still like Abu in Penang more for the maggi goreng. Can’t find a good maggi goreng in Klang Valley, any recommendation?

By they way, Murni have a Facebook page.

  • Penang Malay Halal Hokkien Prawn Mee At Tanjung Tokong

Penang Malay Halal Hokkien Prawn Mee At Tanjung Tokong

I love Hokkien Prawn Noodle, I love Penang Prawn Noodle, I love Hokkien Mee. Err, what’s the difference? Actually it’s all the same, just different names. Haha, Penang people like to call it Hokkien Mee, outstation like to call it Penang Prawn Noodle, I like to call it, Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee Noodle. Just kidding. Just Hokkien Prawn Mee will do.

So, this Hokkien Prawn Mee is a Penang’s famous food and most people will thought of it’s only sell by the Chinese or perhaps Chinese Hokkien people. Today, I am going to introduce you guys a Hokkien Prawn Mee sell by our lovely Malay friends, Cifu Omar.

This is a Malay made Hokkien Prawn Mee which is 100 percent halal and delicious. Malay, Chinese, Indian, everyone will like it. Just that you won’t find any pork or lard in the soup, still maintaining a nice Hokkien Prawn Mee’s taste and feel.

Due to running out of bee hoon that day, the person mixed in koay teow (flat noodle) with the yellow noodle and it’s my first time trying out this version of Hokkien Prawn Mee. Guess what, it’s tasted nice! They replaced pork with chicken, lot’s of mini prawn and crabstick too! The taste just felt Penang to me, a little bit sweet and spicy, still nice.

Hokkien Prawn Mee’s fans or lovers can give this a try because I felt that it’s good. Located at Tanjung Tokong beside Petronas petrol station, it only opens for breakfast and lunch. Be quick because if late bit during noon time, it would have been sold out already. In addition, they do sell Koay Teow Th’ng (Koay Teow Soup) ala Malay style too, but I didn’t try before. =)
