Trip To Penang: St George’s Church

Trip To Penang: St George’s Church – Was organizing the photo library of my computer and found out that there’s one album that I have not uploaded to the Facebook or the blog and here I want to share with you guys. You might notice that my title is kinda weird, I am from Penang, why a trip to Penang? It’s actually happened last year when my class (Diploma In Interior Design, DID) had a study trip to Penang and I joined the tour along! =)
I’ve been promoting Penang quite a lot to them and finally they get to check out this lovely little island organized by Mr CK. Looking back at this photos, it was such a fun trip together and it’s seems long then the whole class haven’t been anywhere together, hopefully there’s a little trip together I hope.

During the trip in Penang with the classmate, I followed a tour leaded by the Penang Heritage Trust. Anyone may ask them to bring you on a guided walking tour around the town too for an amount of money, I am not sure how much they charge but you may visit the website for more. The first stop was the St George’s Church at Pitt Street, one of the famous church in George Town.
Fahdran, oh long time no see.
The guide from PHT which I’ve forgotten your name. Oops. Mr… Err…
Explaining the history oh long long long ago.
    Lovely clock tower.
    Jia Hui & Nita!
    Here’s me, Wesley and Steve.
    And Arvin with the pigeons.
Remember to come back often to follow me on my trip around Penang. Hehe.

Chew Jetty, China House, Penang Bridge, Street Arts, Straits Quay

Being Tour Guide: Chew Jetty, China House, Penang Bridge, Street Arts, Straits Quay – Some times, when friends of other place come to Penang, I always wonder where to bring them. Eat! But then we can’t eat all the time, the stomach will get full and at that time, it’s time for a little walk and exploration, but where to?

Penang is a small town, there’s actually many thing to explore, but some times I don’t know where to start. Last week, an Indonesian friend – Arvin came to Penang and here’s some places that I brought him to:

    • Chew Jetty
    • Straits Quay
    • Jelutong’s Nautilus Bay to check out Penang Bridge
    • Snake Temple
    • China House (Heritage-style restaurant)
    • Street Arts
    • Hard Rock Hotel & Batu Ferringhi
Actually there’s still more to do like:
    • Penang Hill (I didn’t go because my friend is foreigner and has to pay more for the tram)
    • Cycling in Balik Pulau
    • Cycling in George Town
    • Jungle trekking to Pantai Kerachut
    • Kek Lok Si Temple
    • What else?
Anyway, I think I did good as being a tour guide bringing him around some of the must-see/must-do places in Penang. =D

    CHEW JETTY

Chew Jetty is a must-bring because it’s a living heritage of Penang.
And it has a good view across Penang’s Straits too.

    CHINA HOUSE

Since I parked my car quite near to China House, so it became one of the attraction as it has a very cool interior design and nice arts collection.
Nice food too but we didn’t stop by for the food.
    Art decor in China House.

    STRAITS QUAY

I brought my friend to Straits Quay to check out the modern side of Penang. It has a good view of Gurney Drive where all the tall condos are.
    Tree.

    STREET ARTS

Evening, we went to the street arts by Ernest since it’s not hot. (Me, Alvin, Wanyi and Arvin the friend from Indonesia)
Street arts have became a very famous attractions in Penang. Cool!
    KOMTAR.
Some filming going on in the heart of George Town.

    NAUTILUS BAY, JELUTONG

I believe most people won’t bring their guest here, but I do because here you can take a good view of Penang Bridge.
    Here is the Penang Bridge.

    UNDER THE PENANG BRIDGE

On random place I brought my friend was this place under the Penang Bridge where you can get a close view on the Penang Bridge. =D
I still wonder how people go to the columns there. By boat?
    Under the bridge.

    SNAKE TEMPLE

    Last stop, the snake temple.

How about you? Where will you bring your friend to? Or any suggestion for other places/activities?

The Hidden Beach – Pasir Panjang Beach, Balik Pulau – In Penang, when we discuss about beach, I am sure you will think about the famous Batu Feringhi beach, further on you will find Monkey Beach and Pantai Kerachut hidden in the Penang National Park at Teluk Bahang. Another well-known one is the Pantai Acheh, well-known because of the site being hit by tsunami in year 2006.

However, on the back of the Penang Island, located far south of Balik Pulau, there’s a hidden beach filled with some locals who go there for picnic – the Pasir Panjang Beach.

#3: The small island is Pulau Betong.

Lastweekend, brother, brother’s girlfriend, me and cousin went for a road trip to the back of the island – Balik Pulau, which reveals a quiet side of Penang. Initially, our plan was to find the Balik Pulau Visitor Centre, rent a bike and go for a bike trail, but we failed to locate the centre and randomly, we followed the sign of towards ‘Pulau Betong’, hoping that we could find a good spot to enjoy the sunset.

    Fisherman’s boat.

We did in fact came to a fishing village, the Pulau Betong Fishing Village which has a fish market at there. The fish market is often visited by the locals, in fact, I did came here before a few years back. A further deep into the fishing village, we found ourselves, nearer to the sea. There’s a dirty beach as well as a jetty. Since the beach was dirty and at that location, we couldn’t really see the sunset as it was block by cape. We then decided to drive further down the road, pass the cape to find another spot.

#8: It says that ‘Beware! This beach is quite dangerous’.

We then came to a dead end, where a Kem Bina Negara Balik Pulau is located at. The camp is use for the government purpose as the name means ‘Building Nation’ Camp. Ignoring the camp, at the side of the camp, there lies the Pasir Panjang Beach.

I am surprise to see there’s a stretch of sandy beach at this side of the island, fill with local Malay family at there, swimming and picnic-ing. The beach is pretty short, yet it’s a good spot, it’s a cleaner beach after all. The wave at here is also bigger than the wave at Batu Ferringhi, which makes it a little bit dangerous. However, the sand at the beach was not soft enough, it’s very rough.

I see people swimming, picnic and fishing at there. There isn’t any safeguards at there as far as I know. The people who can call for help is the visitor at there or the people who live in the Kem Bina Negara. So, it’s swim at your own risk in the sea.

    #17. So relaxing.

Despite the sand on the beach is not soft enough, the beach is not very long and wide, yet it has an awesome view of the sunset sinking down the horizon. It’s a good visit that day. I’ve included a Google Map below for your reference. =)
